I DO NOT FEEL THAT GAMES SHOULD BE USED TO TEACH PEOPLE TO RESPECT PAST WARS OR THE SOLDIERS THAT DIED IN THEM. If you need a game to find a way to respect them, then there is something seriously wrong with that. We NEVER NEVER forget our dead. If you want to learn to respect the soldiers that died defending our country, read a history book. A game is a game. It has a DIFFERENT purpose from a book or movie. It is meant as entertainment purely. It is a great dishonor to the soldiers who died for us to compare them to ANY game. They died and will NEVER come back. Don't ever think that a game will ever give you a feeling of war because I think that none of us who have never experienced it can ever know what it is like. We do not need to know what it was like to respect them. We just need to know what they did, and learn about history and understand. I certainly hope that I never learn "what it was like". Games are not legitimate "history teachers" no matter how realistic or emotionally charged they are. That is just to make them sell.

Just played that mission again just to make sure. That is an easy mission. The only thing is that I don't get to kill engough men to my liking. Like, you get that first area where the officers and men are. But after you kill them all, there are no more really for you to see. They should make a mission where you can really mow 'em down. I would love to do that with that gun.

I never had a problem with that mission. Beat it the first time. Although I was pissed about losing all my teammates.

Could there be a addon which change scud missiles
IceFire replied to slowyconection's topic in GENERAL
If a nuke detonated near you, you wouln't have time to say "It's coming". You would be killed instantly. -
Is red hammer the same thing as the gold edition? Or is the gold edition just an advanced version of the cold war crisis? What exactly is the gold edition? I know that red hammer is the russian campaign. Also, in red hammer, is it all in Russian? It would be cool if it was. That would be realistic, we would just have to read the subtitles.

Ok, I just played that seek and destroy mission a while ago. I looked EVERYWHERE for that darn scud launcher and could not see it. Hmm. Interesting. This is what happened, I left my men at the beginning, went through some woods to the north near the foot of that huge hill. Saw some Spetznatz moving up the hill, waited for them to pass. Went up the hill , far up. Past where the Spetznatz were. I almost got to the tippy top of the hill, and on the western side of it. And the whole way through kept on looking for that scud with my binoculars. Almost a whole hour passed And I was far up on that hill. I searched everywhere with my binoculars. My in game character had already seen it and reported it in. This is nuts. I almost thought that I saw it, but that was only a gaurd tower in a patch of trees. By the way, noone tell me where it is, I still wanna find it if I can. Anyways, I got a question. Next time I play, I am planning on spotting the scud (not with my eyes, but have the in game player report its position), then somehow destroying the 2 shilkas there via either some satchels or by my 2 AT men. Then I will call in the helicopters in hopes that they destroy the scud launcher. With the shilkas out of the way, they should have no opposition, right? Then if they want they can destroy any other tanks that they want. Or vise versa. Then I can call in the other tanks if I wish to take out any other opposition. My question is, can the choppers target and shoot the scud launcher?

You're right random. There are 3, I believe now. Just beat that level. Man that was intense. Finally found the scud. I didn't get in the choppers or call in ANY reinforcements. All I did, was get on the hill close to the scud. Left all of my men at base except for my Carl Gustav man. He came with me. I didn't want to carry a big tube launcher. It would be hard to be stealthy. We got to the scud site. And I told him to blow it up, while I got a little far away. As soon as he did it, I told him to regroup, but then he died. I managed to get out. That level took some time. It's intense levels like this that make you get mad at every bug in your game. Because then is when they come up. Now onto the next one.
-
Ok, I got another question. if both the shilkas get taken out beforehand, then there will be nothing to oppose the choppers, right?

God how I hated that mission! I did the same thing titanium did. What a headache. That level was alot of work. But instead, I got into a Humvee, and kept a few men in it, mainly law. Then kept ahead of the convoy. I would drive forward looking for enemies. As soon as I spotted some, I either dealt with them, or sent out the M113 to take care of them. I usually kept the M113 in front of the convoy. I would go up and drive around in the Humvee to spot enemies or draw their fire and then kill them. I would not reccomend this tactic. It's a real headache starting and stopping the convoy all the time whenever I got a bad feeling. And worrying that I missed someone in some bushes who may attack the convoy. Staying ahead of it the whole time. Next time I would just clear the whole path first and then call in the convoy to go the whole path while I would drive in a jeep besides them.

I posted earlier about the scud. It seems that you cannot respond to it. I tried myself and instead of a button that says reply, it says that the post has been moved. What the??
-
Well now it's on page two, just letting you know.

Why do people always just assume that the hummer should be just like an armored jeep? I'm no hummer expert, but I do believe that hummers are pretty tough. They are much more than just "tough jeeps" The military also uses hummers as attack vehicles equiped with machine guns, radars, missiles on the roof, completely underwater submersible, and all sorts of other features, hummers were built to withstand damage. Built tough. They can act as a small lightly armored tank or even a forward base. Too bad these features are not implemented in OFP.

No, DON'T DO IT!! By clicking on revert, you will actually revert to that level, not replay it. That means that once you revert back to that level and replay it, you will lose all saved levels that you completed after that. It would be like going back in time permenantly. Just click on "replay" instead, that will make you just go back and play the mission over again. But it won't change any of your permanent stats or make you stay there. You can always go back to your current mission and continue to advance through the game.

Jeez, what a mission!! Just finished Incursion. That was tense! I managed to crawl all the way to the front of Guba's house. Got the the bush right infront of the front door. As soon as I peeked out, the damn sirens went off. DAMN! Someone spotted me! Got back inside the bush, decided that if I was gonna get killed, I might as well have some fun and kill as many as I can. I stayed in the bush and just started killing everyone with my MP5. Strangely, noone seemed be able to locate my exact position. So I kept on putting holes in them as they came. By now tanks were rolling everywhere, and one stopped 2 feet away from me. Well, I kept firing them off until I couln't see anymore men. What the?? I'm still alive?? Noone has killed me?? Well I waited a bit, and noone else was around. So I crawled to the door, grabbed the documents. And headed back for the bush in fear that someone might see me. Hmm. Noone around except for the tanks/BMP's. I managed to crawl my way south-west til I was sure I was out of sight. Saw a few infantry running around though. I finally got to some steep hill, really rough terrain, like no BMP could get me there. Managed to make my way down to the edge of the fence on the south-east end. And to swim my way around the fence. And was home free. I didn't fire off a round til the alarm sounded when I was right out side the front door. Now, as for the next mission I am on searching for that SCUD, I managed to crawl my way to that scud area. Left my men behind in some woods. Then I spotted the scud. Not with my eyes. But my ingame character saw it. He said SCUD 2 o clock. I assumed that after seeing it, that It would be on the map. Well, in I got around to where it was supposed to be, and it wasn't there. Where in the world was it?(Don't tell me though! If my character saw it, how come I couln't see it on the screen? Whew! Anyways just thought I'd share. I'm gonna hit the sack now and try later.

You're telling me I can simply tell my men where to look by clicking on a location with alt? This completely adjusts my tactics for team movement!!! Now when I point at an area I want a unit to look at, would that just be like quickly telling him to look in that compas direction, or would that make him look at that direction more specifically? I mean I remember times where I didn't quite want my men to look north, but not quite look north-east. I wanted them to look in between. Is this more specific?? Also, will this control the distance that they focus on? Like can I make them focus on a spot 500 yards aways one time, and then 200 yards another time? If this is true, then I can make my men cover certain "danger spots" that the enemy is likely to pop out of, therefore making them quicker to react! They have this feature in the game "Swat3". It was the only feature that I wished OFP had.

???? Where do all you people get your information about all this stuff?? That's cool!
-
By the way, what is the number the AI gives after reporting the enemy and direction? For example "Spetsnatz 2 0 clock 200" What exactly does the 200 mean? Is that distance in yards or meters or is it the map location or something? I always assumed it was the enemies distance.
-
I know what you mean, when your men start reporting in enemies that are in at a close distance and you can't see them is disturbing. I wind up frantically looking around and stuff.

I believe U.S. Marines are trained to swim when wearing full combat gear. I am not sure, but I believe that this tradition started after WW2 when many soldiers died drowning when their boats were attacked.

Darn it Mister Frag! I would have loved to play that mission! Oh well. My first kill was in steal the car. Nothing like that first time I lined up my M-16 sights on an enemy and popped him a few times. I had an unique game last night actually, not too interesting really but whatever. I am on the campaign mission "incursion" When the mission starts off, I immediately north to the waters edge through the woods undetected. Once I get to the beach I run around the fence without blowing it up. Make my way through some woods. Get close to a big boulder close to the Russian Generals house. On the north side. I find this really nice point of view to watch from near there where I can kinda see the top of the house but not the bottom, just looking up the hill. (I have been trying to complete this mission for some time now and have not yet found a way to get into his house.) Anyways, I decide to lay under one of the "christmas trees" and watch. I make some notes that are of great use to me. I notice that the one BMP that moves in a clockwise circle around the house takes about four minutes to make a complete circle. I also notice a patrol consisting of one leader with NVG's and three soldiers following him. It takes about 6:30 minutes for them to get from the tree at which I was hiding to go on their way, and return, then it takes another 6 minutes for them to pass me and come back. I remember the first time I saw them. They surprised me. I was hiding under the tree, and they came up behind me. They didn't see me. I was nervous because they were coming up so close to me. But I was perfectly still. And guess what? They leader and one of his men actually stepped on me! But they didn't notice me there and kept on they way. I am going into that level to learn all the patrols path movement and who else is around and where. I know the exact path of that patrol to a point up to where I lose sight of them. The go back near the rock. And then past that one lone tree that I was hiding under. Next time I am gonna hide further up near the next tree that the BMP nearly touches on it's every patrol by and see where they go to and who else is there.

When playing a mission, either single player or multi player, is there a limited, distinct number of enemy units in an area? (except for the "kill them all" missions obviously) Either tanks or men? Or is it that the game spawns new enemies/tanks/choppers in a large area so that you cannot kill them all? Like "After Montignac" for example.
-
Really? How fast were they moving? And are you talking about Marines, or the soldeirs in the game?
-
Jeez! I just posted, and now already there are like 3 more! What time do you people wake up? It's like 6 am. I just havn't slept yet. Spent the whole night finishing off an assignment due today. Well, the dining hall should open in an hour.
