"By your own logic you should be studying Cherokee or some other Native American language." ---- Quote by Tovorish I would if Native American languages actually were roots of our government and country. Our government and country has no roots in their language and culture, only our land and territory does. Similar in ways like the Basques in France. Our countries origins are of English.

Oh no. I saw those charts. I hope they are exaggerated. I don't mind if someone "knows" other languages. That is fine and all. But one must only "use" english in the US. Especially for anything official. This is a very disturbing trend to me. There must be something we all can do to prevent this spread of spanish in the US. Maybe with enough support we can enact more English only laws. One for the whole nation maybe.
-
Oh man, has anyone heard the progress of the "English only" laws being passed? Last I heard was it got passed in California and some other states. We really need to do something about this. If they want to preserve their cultural heritage they should stay in their home country. Once you get American citizenship, well you are going to have to make some major personal and cultural changes. If I were to go to Germany and become a German, I would stop speaking English, and try as best as I could to fully adopt German culture. It's a matter of patriotism and nationalism.

Yeah it's a common foreign language in the US. This will change and it will eventually not be so prevalent in the US. The reason why is because right now the reason why it's so prevalent is because alot of immigrants come here who don't know english. But in as younger generations age, their children will learn English because they will live their entire lives in the US and eventually the Spanish speakers who don't know any english will eventually get old and die out while the english youth will remain and English will continue to be our main language. Also there are many of us who are sick of the fact that so many foreigners don't know english. We have already enacted English only laws in several states. Hopefully all states will have english only laws one day. Anyways, this is just me replying to RedOct. Stay on topic people.

Well if anyone has been following the news, We've pretty much WON! Armed resistence is pretty much dead, the Iraqi civilian population is cheering and celebrating. All this talk after all the months by people against the war have been proven wrong. Take that all you anti-war doves!!

Kill this thread! This thread is so old. Let it die. I'm sick of seeing threads with like 60 pages and 1000 posts. These threads need to be done away with to make room for fresh new threads!

Sui, maybe it would be easier for folks to know exactly what needs to be done if you posted what kind of lines would need to be recited. And for what situations.

Even though he saw the UAZ it just never crossed his mind that maybe the UAZ was what he was looking for. Â He thought it was a bug in the game Its just hard to believe that people can think so narrowly. Also shows that some people don't recongise the value of reading the briefings either. OFP just isn't for everyone...<span id='postcolor'> Yeah, I had that same problem when I first started. I saw the UAV, but I was looking for the car at the waypoint. After a while I learned to use common sense.

I agree with you on one point. Time is valuable. And I don't have much of it in real life. I still hold by my point about time changing should not be used in the game because it is unrealistic. So do you know how often I get a chance to play the game? I play OFP about 2 times a week. Sinse OFP takes up alot of time and patience, that's about how much time I have to play OFP. Anyways I think your idea about dying in OFP is interesting. Maybe one day they will implement this idea in an ultimately realistic game. One where once you die, you game is locked and you can no longer play.

Ok, for the past week I have been trying(unsuccesfully) to download and install patch 1.91 No success. Either from BIS's website or from fileplanet. Anyways, I was thinking, "Should I even download this patch?", "Is it really that good?" and such. I have been playing the first campaign where you are David Armstrong. I am on the gaurdian mission. I do not want to install this and it deletes my progress. I has taken me 4 months to get this far. I remember ALONG time ago when I installed patch like 1.46 or whatever. At that time it deleted my progress.

Oh wait, this should be in general. Sorry mods.

No, do not change time in this game. It is unrealistic. I remapped my controls so that no button does time acceleration. In real life soldiers can't do time acceleration or decelleration. Why should YOU be able to? There are many moments in this game when I am a black op being sneaky crawling through enemy infested areas. I knew I needed to get to that next bush far away and was going as fast as I could. I knew time acceleration would make it easier. But things were TENSE, I knew I could get shot at ANY moment. Sure time changing could make things go faster and relieve the tension, but do REAL soldiers get that luxery? No, they take the risk, feel the heat, feel the tension. Sometimes even lose control and start open firing due to the immese anxiety. They don't have any time accelleration or deselleration.

Ok anyways, to get back on topic. The list of games posted here was very good and exactly what I was looking for. Too bad almost none of them are first person shooters type games. Â Â That was kindof what I was looking for. The point of this was because it provides a sense of immersion in the first person envoronment. Â I researched Forgotten Battles, it's still a flight sim, but I might try it. Ghost Recon, I might try it too. Â But the language usage doesn't sound nearly as extensive as in Medal of Honor. Hmm, I might try Half-Life Day of Defeat. Â Â But that is curious to me because it is only mutiplayer, so I wonder how it would all be implemented. As for my comment about the African language, ... Â hehe, sorry. Â I guess I didn't know anything about that after all. Â Anyways, good ideas. Feel free to post more if there are any.

I bet you the U.S has the largest number of languages spoken in the world simply because it has the most diverse immigrant population <!--emo&-------- Quote by PitViper No, I don't want to go a little off topic in my own thread, but I hear this alot and I must say that this is NOT true. We have a few languages. Mainly English, the native American languages, French in Louisiana due to the French colonization and that's about it other than the fact that the Mexican on the southern border who remained in Texas and Arizona when we annexed them. All the "other" languages that immigrated here are NOT languages of the population here, they are just languages brought over. Like in France, they have French, Alsacian, Bretan, Corsican, Bask(is that how you spell it?), and probably a few other languages that belong there that I havn't mentioned. Arabic for example while is greatly spoken in France does NOT belong there as it was immigrated over by immigrants wanting to come to France. I just had to mention that. The US, has those languages I mentioned, Chinese would simply Chinese brought over by someone speaking chinese wanting to become American but still speaks Chinese. That doesn't count. Oh dear, what's happening to our great nation?

Just buy the GOTY edition. That way you can get Red Hammer too.

Wow, incredible list. Exactly what I was looking for. Keep it coming if there are any more. "The African language? I see that the Bush school is gaining followers by the day" --- Quote by Denoir I know I know that Africa is a continent of countries. I just meant the African language. You know, you've probably heard it millions of times. "Wonga wonga, onga onga, Oni-bo!". You know what it sounds like. "Quote (DarkLight @ April 09 2003,22:20) Medal of Honor: Frontline for PS2. (Dunno if it exists for PC, i doubt it) That would be what Allied Assault pretty much is." ---- Quote by drewb99 I have Allied assault, and allied assault has no Dutch woman.

One another reason why lots of people dislike OFP is because they don't understand it. People really find it hard to believe or even understand the idea that the game is really open and free. It is difficult for them to understand that the game is virtually a parallel to real life. If you can think of it in real life, you can probably execute it in Operation Flashpoint. You can't really blame them, I mean a game like OFP is unique, and is hard to understand after playing DOOM and Medal of Honor where the player is lead through a "play" through "acts" and "scenes" where everything is scripted. This is one the the biggest hurdles in trying to explain someone the game. It wasn't until about a week or so into when I first started playing the game until I realised the scope of the game. It is more a soldier "simulation" than a game. And gameplay shows for it. I will be the first to admit that the game is not "fun", it is actually quite "boring". That is because it is a simulation of real life soldiering. The only "fun" to be derived from the game is in the knowledge that one is succesfully completing a challenging mission using all your skill, wit, strategy, and cunning. That gives me a great deal of pleasure and satisfaction. That is the only thing that is "fun" or "satisfying" about the game. This inherent aspect of this "soldier sim" automatically shows the type of mentality required to play the game. Not a mentality of doing this to have "fun", no. A mentality that gets satisfaction from succesfully completing missions using your cunning and strategy. The only mission that I would consider "fun" to play is "Operation Clean Sweep". All this is secondary to the fact that they speak REAL Russian in this game. That is very authentic to me.

Ok, a long time ago someone posted pics on this forum showing off the games graphics at the BEST POSSIBLE QUALITY. Everything was maxed out. They looked freakin' amazing. I've never seen anything like that in OPF since. Not since getting my computer upgraded, nor in other peoples posts here. Can someone please post pics of these. Remember, these are not just damn good graphics, the guy said that the graphics were pretty much the best the game can possibly offer. So please only post if they are the absolute best possible. It looked like a whole different game. And if you are capable of this and post them, please post your system specifications. I may even try to get that system or equivelant and play OPF like that. Thanks.

Raptor, I understand what you mean about good graphics. As for teamplayers. That doesn't matter for someone to learn and fall in love with the game. I have always played OFP, and I have only played online like 10 times or less. The beauty of this game lies in its single player. The game itself, and mainly as I stated above, the autherntic Russian speaking.

Peanuckle, you killed my thread. And you know why? Cause your post made no sense.

Ok, I was messing around in the mission editor and was in a really beatiful southern area of Everon. Â It is near where that artilery cannon is. I decided to do some flying in the Mi17 since I rarely fly that thing. Anyways I was amazed at that things fire power. Â It's not my idea of an attack chopper, but man can it put out alot of heat. So I went and placed SEVERAL russian infantry squads down in some nearby village. Â Like 12 or some large amount. Anyways, I got into the Mi17, and flew way up high and just started firing everything I had into that little village. After I was all done, I flew down, and landed. Not a thing survived. This gave me a similar idea. The Mi17 is real easy to fly and real stable in the air. Â And it has alot of firepower. Â Howabout if it were used as a support firing platform from the air that can be directed by ground units on the ground? Basically here's my idea. Â Have a BlackOp with like a nice lazer pointer. Â The lazer could only be seen by the helicopter pilot. The pilot would not see the lazer beam, but the spot the lazer was hitting. Â The lazer dot would be about 1 foot wide in diameter, and would be bright blue, since that would be easy to see. The pilot could fly extremely high. Â So high that he would only see the trees and buildings. Â He would see the bright blue dot and a number over the dot stating the distance in yards he is from the dot. He would be able to put down extremely precise fire on a specific point if he was good enough with it. An enemy patrol or a few russian soldiers would be talking a walk, and out of nowhere they get blown away by rockets apparenlty raining down from the heavans. Â This would be perfect for Coop games. Â Especially if you are using teamspeak or whatnot. You are sneaking around, and see a convoy of a few trucks and soldiers on a road. Â There are too many of them for your squad to take out alone. Â You pull out your lazer pointer. Â Your chopper man up in the air sees it and unloads a hail of precise fire on the convoy that he is too high up to even see. Â You don't see your chopper man in his Mi17, but you see the results of the destructive force of him firing down on your dot.

Stupid double post.

Again, read my post from above. The main thing that draws people to Medal of Honor(including me and most likely your friend) is that it has real German spoken in it. Â Relate to him the fact that OFP also uses real Russian in it. He will probably be very surprised to know this and will come to OFP for the same reason he loves Medal of Honor.

The Soviet Anthem is definitely awesome. Le Boudin always sounded silly to me.

What's wrong with SOF?
