    The "Fade" thing

Amos, where did you pick up this "Nobody deserves to be hit" sh!t? That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. If a crook has a knife at your wife's throat, he doesn't deserve to be hit? If an employee begins to perform an action that endangers other employees, and a hit is the quickest way to make him stop, then that is what is right. No judge on earth is going to say "Oh, you shouldn't have hit him". You should see about getting a transplant to replace your bleeding heart. BTW, why do you play OFP? It sounds like a definite compromise of your rigid principles. How do you explain this to your children? Its all right to shoot somebody, but not to "hit" him to stop him from endangering you or your team? (Edited by HuFlungDung at 3:52 am on Dec. 27, 2001)

    Fire place doesn\'t lit ground

Before 1.4, I could roast marshmellows over the fire, but now they burn all  the time. It seems like the fire is only good for roasting weenies! Can this be fixed. BTW, has anybody found a real reason to "Put out fire"? Of all the useless things to incorporate into the game, that takes the cake. It's not that important to get your tank so its steerable (early versions), but dammit, you don't want to fool around with fire! Now, if we could "Piss on fire" that would be worth having! Somebody, please please, make the OFP Piss on Fire Mod! (Edited by HuFlungDung at 6:16 pm on Dec. 25, 2001)

    Joystick Problems in 1.40

That's good news Mr ThunderMakeR. Now, I hope the codemasters people notice this and can fix us up. After re-reading what you did, can we give everyone a "formula" for what to do? On my Saitek USB gold, I find that midway through its range is where the binding cuts out. Is it important then to save "throttle" at the approximate midway point in its travel, whenever the binding changes state? (Edited by HuFlungDung at 9:29 pm on Dec. 25, 2001)

NO! I've been brought up through spanking and all that s**t and all i know is that it teaches NOTHING! One example would be when I accidently knocked over a picture frame when i was little and it smashed to the ground. I picked it up, started crying and yelling "sorry, sorry, sorry" yet, my dad still gave me a spanking, even though I knew it was wrong. Now would you spank your kid if they were crying saying "sorry"? <span id='postcolor'> I'm not KillerLive, but the hypothetical situation you presented could have some "what ifs" to it. If I explicitly warned an employee not to move a hoisted load above another worker's head, and he did it anyway, yeah, I might just smash his face in, and then fire him. Being the boss takes more balls than you've got. Thats why some people are employees, and some aren't.

    The "Fade" thing

Amos, I still think because your kids listen to you does not make you an expert in raising all kinds of children. Some kids will test you. A spank can actually be less painful for them than to actually experience what it is that you are warning them about. Take the hot stove for example. You tell your kid not to touch it because its hot. You let him feel the heat. Then, you stand back, watch him slowly move towards it. He reaches. You pull him back. Tell him "Hot! Don't touch". He studies your face for a moment. Then, he goes for it again. Are you the type who is going to stand there and nag the kid for an hour, then go do something, and in another moment, the kid is hollering because he fried his hand? Now, you've got to put up with the howling little bastard for a couple of miserable days. You are mean, and an unfit parent, to not enforce your word with force, as required. A series of slaps on the kids hand, until he refuses to go for the stove, is the right thing to do, to protect him from a bad burn. It is small artificial pain to re-enforce what you have warned him about, and is the right thing to do.

The difference between 100% torque and 30% is about 1 milimeter on the throttle. <span id='postcolor'> That was the point of doing the test in your controls setup. The fact that the throttle "binding" cuts in and out twice within its travel, could mean that as soon as it gets to zero, a little bit farther is all the way to the "maximum" setting again. I think that there is one helicopter where the throttle works smoothly with only one minimum and one maximum throughout the range. The other heli has two "minimums" and two "maximums". Can anyone else confirm this?

    Joystick Problems in 1.40

Just for the heck of it, go into your controls setup, go down to the bottom of the list, and click the rudder or the throttle. Then move your joystick throttle slowly through its entire range. I think that there is something wierd going on here, like  a "double binding". Mine shows "stick slider" cutting in and out in a couple of places in the throttle range. Then, the same "stick slider"  shows up under Z axis, showing a conflict with the same binding in rudder. <Shrugs> I don't see how the game could make proper use of such overlapping, or intermittent bindings. Gun Fans - M21 - Aiming BELOW target?

RedRogue, I think where your theory slipped up, is in this bit of logic: Quote: The scope given in the game is calculated for a 0 angle of elevation shot in which the bullet rises a bit then falls to hit its target, any further positive angle the bullet follows an arc, first rising then falling to its target. On a negative angle shot the bullet only falls to its target following a sloped path End Quote. Although what you say is true, the line of sight through your scope has not changed relative to the bullet arc, and predictable aiming makes everything relative to that line of sight, and not to the earth's plane of reference. The bullet drop is consistent for a given horizontal vector. Because shooting out of level always decreases the horizontal vector, the time that acceleration due to gravity has to act, is shorter. This means that the bullet will seem to be higher than normal, Â because it is "earlier"(so far as accel due to gravity is concerned) in its trajectory. The "Fade" thing

Amos M, I agree with you up to a point. However, in order to be able to avoid "beating" one's kids, one has to do the little spanks and slaps (for rebellion), when the kids are very young. It doesn't require a beating to impress upon a 2 year old that you are the boss. But a slap on the hand or the behind when they willfully disobey is the quickest solution to a rebellious attitude. No amount of talking is ever going to fix that kind of mindset. Once you establish who is boss, your kid will likely grow up not remembering why he respects your word, but he will. If you are so fortunate that none of your kids have this rebellion problem, count yourself lucky. But don't judge that everyone else can handle their affairs in the same way as you can.
  12. I dragged this over from another section of the forum in hopes that it might get seen. I'm using version 1.3 and I see that the "throttle" is supposed to be the "collective", according to the experts here. I'll try thinking that way as I play and maybe it will help. I did go to the last item in the controls list, which is called Thrust (air). I clicked on it with the mouse, and then slowly moved the "throttle" on my Saitek cyborg 3d gold USB through its full travel. As I do this, the words "stick z axis" remain all the time, but at certain points in the movement, a second definition "stick slider 1" pops up and then disappears. Is this an indication of a bug, that might cause some kind of erratic or conflicting behaviour? What is confusing here, is that the twist axis is also called the Z twist axis. Somehow, I think the two functions, rudder and throttle (or collective) should not be associated under the name of the Z axis? I would surely like the option to reverse the function of the "throttle" just for ease of use. Plus, I would like the throttle to be the throttle, and not the collective. I could use a couple of keyboard keys for the collective. It seems user unfriendly to not be able to slow the engine a bit when you are trying to touch down. I don't know, do some of the keyboard keys currently control the engine speed in the helicopter?
