US Civil War Mod ver.1.0 Beta Released

lol picket, trust me it doesnt take a sergio movie to suggest that normal gents fighting with pistols, did so from positions other than the current anim, which is very formal (very very formal) Im not suggesting its historically innacurate, for i believe it would be for a 'select' number of men who obviously treated their pistolling like they would swordplay, (with precise movement and posture) but how many other than them? i.e. the vast majority would? (The hand behind the back could even be a deriative instruction originating from sword fighting) but honestly picket i find it quite amusing that you cant possibly imagine chaps fighting with pistols in positions other than the animation we have kindly donated, on the contrary it is far more incredible to imagine MOST did, bar those who may have done so most probably for a few months after officer training school... (doubtlessly ur straggly street wise officer, soldier, or bandit certainly didnt..) and again, it doesnt take a movie to realise that ;)

US Civil War Mod ver.1.0 Beta Released

Well, Picket in regards to the animation for pistols, i think more of a compromise between arm completely extended and the hip would be a good additional animation especially for normal units using pistols, like confederate raiders, and other armed civilians, (as the current anim while great) is so very formal that u would expect to see it more akin to an 18th century aristocrat duelling with a flintlock hehe Yeah, drawings of the optics would be completely ideal, that is all id need so i could be sure i was doing it right. Here is another cowboy http://img269.echo.cx/my.php?image=untitled16bs.jpg (note half his legs missing lol, it has since been fixed, (the coat hides the missing legs) done to save polys and clipping Oh and heres the pistols close up, never really shown them close, but here they are, including their new friend (the er... new deringer) http://img275.echo.cx/my.php?image=pistols7bj.jpg

Cool well im happy to make the textures for the new optics and to share and share alike, but i just dont want to make them only for them to be all wrong, cos that would be like a tad infuriating, and yep the optics im meaning dynamite are what they call '3d optics' which are in fact, just um, nice colour ones (tho don't count on em being as pretty as liberation, cos there optics took weeks and weeks of work alone) Also it would be cool if there was an alternative pistol animation that was a little less formal (the one made is fabulous of course) but maybe firing nearer the hip, for ee ol' gunslingers (and most probably confederate officers hehe) Also with the reload animation while its cool (i think its maybe a tiny bit over the top that the chap would take out each bullet seperately, im sure for sake of speed he would take em out and slot each em) Anyway heres a pic of another civilian (cowboy) pretty mean character (theres loads, more pics will be forthcoming soon) http://img238.echo.cx/my.php?image=cowboy11ba.jpg

US Civil War Mod ver.1.0 Beta Released

Yup tho it should be a priority of cwmod to fix up the optics on the weapons too, since their currently so hideous, (for many) and their a pain in the arse to make too as its difficult to guage the angle they would be held (as you would see it as an optic - when you are texturing it. So we should discuss the optics as in the best way to make new ones, and how they would appear, especially if we mean to share them (unless ur making them seperately) Cos if cwmod isnt interested in suggesting any input to these optics (that im slavering over) then well... ill cry like a lost kitten, and ill cry liket his "mewww mewwwww"

US Civil War Mod ver.1.0 Beta Released

Well anyway im continuing away developing the weapons, this is a weapon pack were quite kindly sharing with cwmod, (as it contains many new models, redone models and new AI weapon coding, ala AI distances etc) and of course new optics, but i would like some help with this to be sure i get it correct. The muskets of course have an aimer consisting of a rectangle, a horizontal bar, (with a groove) that lines up with the nodgie on the end of the barrel, but I am presuming that the horizontal bar on the rectangle was adjustable (that slid up and down on the rectangle) is that true? and where would it normally be positioned to aim approximately 'straight ahead' as I am not sure whether it would be set in the middle of the rectangle. Hopefully that made sense lol, and bigus dikus (cya) dont worry baby ;) im still here. Anyway here is a some amusing pics of fighting up close, and of the optic (which is far from finished, and still needs its 'aiming' set right. (close range death aieeee) http://img92.echo.cx/my.php?image=battle014cb.jpg (note scarves on right, and new faces) http://img92.echo.cx/my.php?image=battle026nk.jpg (unlucky zouave but can u guess the regiment?) http://img92.echo.cx/my.php?image=battle036be.jpg And in other news, the BIS islands are being converted into thematic maps for the 1850s - 70s, The first island, Everon, is being converted into what will be a fictional southern owned island, beset with mud and rain, in what will be a hostile and somewhat creepy environment, featuring redone artwork (screens will follow soon) and a fortification century fortification (think sumter) gold mine, and docks (with some ship objects in the harbour hopefully) The island will be part of a story driven campaign being done my a mission dude from ww2ec, and i44 (together in peace to help) that takes a chap from thee old west, thru the civil war, ending his illustrious career at the start of the 'mexican civil war' Naturally while the units and weapons will be authentic, the islands, while accurate with objects, will be fictional, and the story (when it is drawn up) will refer to historical incidents (and not be counter historical) but will have obvious fictional elements, anyway a long post lol, thanx for reading.

the answer being very cool, it would be great if there was also an animation for firing the pistol, with the arm bent, suitable for those ol 6'shooters hehe... Plus I've altered an old face pack, that has 22 so far, ill put a screen of some later, we can maybe share those Heres a wee pic, of the kind of faces, that will be in, there are 22 so far. http://img126.echo.cx/my.php?image=sarge8qw.jpg I am also creating (or attempting to) new 3d collars

Triglav is right, these things can be far far worse, as usual theirs a deeper story behind these decisions, (that isnt to insinuate people are to blame) its just to remind u that nothing is made out of hand at the spur of the moment. People have very 'definitive' ideas about how mods want to be run, Cwmod is more of a community project, House Divided, is attempting to be tighter knit, more controlled and (well u know, one of those types of mod) The important thing is to share, and to cooperate, ive said to triglav already that cwmod can use and he says we can use, the stuff co-opted on (cos those disputes could have wrecked things) and if we share technology, (for example im making custom anims too, which ill share for free, and im sure vice versa etc, and blah blah) Its not appropriate for me to go on about House Divided on this thread (given this thread is for cwmod) but theres no harm to let u know whose in it, thats me, Zalmoxis, popka with direct assistance from chaps like lthunter, and rebus and others. If you have any questions, u can email me

US Civil War Mod ver.1.0 Beta Released

Righty oh, well for u guys who were following the units, dont worry, there not all going away, im simply going to utilise them in a new mod focussing on the civil war, (bit of the wild west) and for some post war units for the mexican civil war. I'll get my own thread eventually, but given our mods arent in competition and are sharing technology, (there is no reason for anything too bad to feel i think) In any case Picket, the 'something mysterious' was in fact a new GUI, ive converted it for the new mod which will be called 'House Divided' although you already have a gui at cwmod, if u need any help improving it, i can offer some tips i learned, in any case heres a pic http://img148.echo.cx/my.php?image=gui8nf.jpg

US Civil War Mod ver.1.0 Beta Released

Yup well, im off to another land, where i might feel a little more love, I am quitting cwmod, because i want you to be honest here chaps, love me or hate me, i aint exactly been made to feel too welcome, (and some would say i never was) In any case im going to make my own mod, cos I feel way too much like a pariah here, and im working my ass flat out, picket, moaning about the units? the team beta is tonight... But see how long it takes u to make units, weapons, cannon retextures and new AI combat, in the same time in the midst of ur exams... Triglav is retired (he may change this) cwmod can fall to whoever wants to be admin, (if it even has one) I updated a lot of cwmod stuff, that we can share with the 2 mods, for exclusive stuff im sure we'll keep that to ourselves, but in good spirit we can share technology and scripts as they come active. Well cwmod, goodluck and goobye

US Civil War Mod ver.1.0 Beta Released

Oh dear... well I think that you know this is not true, for it is no coincidence that every unit pic ive been showing, for all these guys, berdans to zoauves have been newer versions of the old ones... so if what you say was true, im sure you would have found an earlier time than this to say... The authority of this mod was based on me acting as editor after you LEFT as mod leader triglav, I took over as mod leader to administrate work. Now triglav, the old work u want to keep eh? Well, for weeks i have worked on a different agreement, the one you have suddenly changed for the sake of ur vanity, well... lets see what happens

US Civil War Mod ver.1.0 Beta Released

Yup im still about, im working on something mysterious and special for ya all, be careful on the expansion of these old units tho, id like a bit of talking on that first ;) im available on msn, it looks nice, but this new unit pack does replace the old one, so if ur wanting to make new units chaps rather than take the old one and edit it, talk to me, At the moment im also looking at some custom animations also, tho one thing we do have is a new face pack of about 30 rough random faces, these will be automatically be applied to guys, u wont need to type blah blah. Anyway more pics are coming ;)

US Civil War Mod ver.1.0 Beta Released

Hiii!! So anyway about the horses, what i can say is that regardless of what beta versions become available, there will eventually be a super version that we have all tested and eventually textured etc etc that will be included with the infantry units we've made so far. Excellent also to hear that we have more complex injury systems in development. Further more my apolagies for the delay of the beta, it is cos it has taken me far longer to set up my new computer than i would have imagined (5days) im actually msging from er my mothers lol whom im visiting (aaweee etc) Anyway there will be updates soon, and more pics of guns, till then rest assured my little darlings that work on the units and weapons continues.

US Civil War Mod ver.1.0 Beta Released

Yup we already have cavalry that will shoot etc in development, but they wont be ready in time for the next beta, and bear in mind lol, this 'beta' is more of a alpha really, (it may be renamed so) Its just our intention to keep u guys up to date with playable inteam versions of our test betas, so u's dont have to wait while we spend longer development times to try out our work. Its not how i personally used to work, but given the consideration of this unique cwmod mini community (i.e. u dedicated bunch) i think its better to just share our team betas too, be aware tho, help with testing is appreciated blah blah. Anyway coming soon

US Civil War Mod ver.1.0 Beta Released

Yup, just to confirm, my computers all getting changed at the mo lol, so ive had to postpone the release of a wee test beta for a few days but it wont be long till ya's can test it out. Old missions will be compatable i think, because the new units will possibly overwrite the old... (that seems a shame but these are the sequals so...) About the whitworth, well yup i could include a version without sights etc, but bear in mind um dynamite cow, the weapons are all updated, check the screen guns.jpg They all look quite different now

US Civil War Mod ver.1.0 Beta Released

Wow barron er let me see if i can address some of those points 1) Yup animations, i think the point you raise here is correct, we had some kindly donated (but due to time restrictions rushed animations) we have time to correct this i think, and we have as a favour, the offer of help from *ahem* wildo of i44, and/or Zalmoxis, who is a very patient man with ofpanim. 2) Yup i agree on the smoke issue, and we will inplement new smoke script alterations to distuingish different firearms. 3) Don't jump on me for saying this guys, but before the weapons werent really that accurate roughly, however now they are being recoded to be more realistic. This should include, velocity speeds, and dispersions based on facts rendered from several books of vintage firearms i possess (for info on my main reference see my earlier post) For the ranges guns are fired at, we can examine open sources on the internet, but also there is much information on this in a few of the osprey civil war books i have. Basically tho barron, when the new team beta is out, the weapons will be FIXED, and they will in fact include NEW OPTICS altogether, that will be 'redefined in oxy' to ensure at least the optics are accurate (while the er musket ball might not be lol) 4) you mentioned the shotgun barron being bad, those weapons have all now been replaced, if u can refer to the pic entitled guns, http://img120.echo.cx/my.php?image=guns2tm.jpg http://www.revgraph.com/files/tease.wmv Note again, these gun pics were taken at different times of day if ofp, hence affecting lighting contrasts, so textures do not appear in same 'brightness' as they would all at the same time of blah blah etc. EDIT 5) // I totally agree with u on the importance of missions, of course im also cynical myself at mission makers, for often they have dissapointed in comparison to the massive work done for addons lol. (there are more addons than campaigns which is ironic) The old addons not being good enough, is why their being improved, (so it is 'not' remaking the old) however the units are and have been expanded dramatically, (end will see 160 units for the beta release) 6) I hope we can release several missions, campaigns etc, (FDF have the right idea) perhaps barron u would like the team beta when it is prepared, u would be welcome to contribute, as we need more mission makers (i know its a time consuming process however)

US Civil War Mod ver.1.0 Beta Released

http://www.revgraph.com/files/tease.wmv Oh and heres a wee sneak peak at some units in progress - ingame. - Barron 'I don't see why you need to re-make the soldier models--they look great to me.' = Unfortunately that was not a prevelant opinion of most, with the exception in fact being the most loyal cwmod fanbase that of course occupy this forum thread that said most who downloaded the cwmod 1.1 (and there were many) saw massive potential and loved the gameplay. Hence we see a great chance to appease that vast (And silent segment) by giving them up to date units, with graphics and lods that look to the standard of fancy historical mods (it helps that we are given assistance from fancy mods too.) Its my intention to get cwmod, into a new phase, that will increase the amount of players engaging with our mod, and for that we need to raise the standards (despite the satisfaction of u brave retainers)

US Civil War Mod ver.1.0 Beta Released

Hello gents, just in case u were missing me im back (i was away on a wee trip) good to hear some of the suggestions and comments here. Lots of people have different opinions and ideas, and we'll sift through them etc. There are a lot of priorities at the moment, for me personally new graphics and optimised lag reduced addons were important, (im an addonmaker so etc) and for others its more maps, or extra features etc, and i think we can all agree on the implementation of lag reduced code, and working cavalry. Um someone mentioned weapon accuracy - range etc? This is a good point, in the cw1.1 etc, there was no specified coding really given for the AI to use weapons at certain ranges, or much for dispersion accuracy (and how that should be modified) Im sitting on some addons at the moment, and i will prepare a test alpha for Team beta testers tomorrow, that will show of some of the new units and weapons. If you want to join cwmod formally as a BETA TESTER (as we know whose actually working in the mod but we are making membership more formal in terms of recruiting beta testers) so email me if u would like to test the units and updated weapons

US Civil War Mod ver.1.0 Beta Released

Great stuff with the horse Picket its looking smashing, i look forward to contributing to it further, i think this is a barrier we are about to finally break through (i.e. cavalry) Tsla - the new map is looking great, however id love for u to give me any requests you may have for map objects, for we could further customise ur map by getting some of the addon dudes to work with u to make any objects u'd like bigus - wise words on the warning of empty promises etc, like i say tho, we're not gonna make u wait 6 months for some near perfect mod release or anything. What we are gonna get u in a matter of weeks is new boys, guns, optics and ai weapon code etc (its hard work but not revolutionary) so theres little room for things to go super wrong (a lot of the first team beta is already done) canada - just to correct u, the mod did not disband, neither has its team, while triglav had to leave due to committments, the rest of the team has stayed, while new members have joined, so the mod team has not disbanded lol its grown bigger. Until our new site and forum is up, this thread is all we have, so lets keep discussion to ideas, proposals and addons, not about 'grief' or 'disbandonment' or anything that questions the sincerity of our efforts etc. As for me fellow mod members we need to discuss what we think should be in the beta 2.0, as in the maps u guys are working on etc, i will be altering the GUI for the mod folder too, slightly (some things have to be chanced since were on new units anyway etc) But anyway if mod members can contact me we'll make a final list for beta 2.0 that we can work towards. Id love to see u guys who are not editing to contribute too, and let us know what u would love to be in the beta 2.0, give us lists or ideas to help : )

US Civil War Mod ver.1.0 Beta Released

Just a wee update, Work on units specifically has now been completed, there is about 26 Union units, and 42 Confederates and a mix of 22 civilian type units (for both east and civilian classes) The cannons and other map objects have a fresh lick of paint to go with the new crews. Cavalry units may not be included with the first release however (it just depends on whether the horses are ready) We will integrate ProfT's animated flags, and also his cool horse + carriage combination vehicles amongst other things. Weapons have been recoded so that units will use them at varying and appropriate ranges, (assessed mainly from general info supplied by the book 'The Great Book of Guns' by Chris McNab, (and cross referenced with some other internet articles) In general the AI will fire weapons more intuitively, sharpshooters etc providing long distance fire etc. The accuracy of weapons is more realistic also, in particular for muskets, so the AI will fire them at a closer range than the former coded range for cw1.1, but the player too must fire at a similar range or will probably miss. I am also looking to integrate pain sounds that are customised especially for NCO's, flagbearers, officers and particular regiments, just so we can make the whole battlefield experience more personal muhahha. Super soon new optics will be done, we are struck between either doing the so called 3d optics (i.e. edited pictures from oxy, made into optics) or traditional black optics. The new black optics can still look attractive but will save us a lot of time, what do u guys think? - Triglav Happy Bday man! - Canadian If you have an issue u can pm me rather than moan on this forum,

US Civil War Mod ver.1.0 Beta Released

An alert for the mission makers out there, now the new unit pack is coded differently at the moment to the initial 1.1 cwmod unit release. What this means is that for mission makers at cwmod, the new units will not be compatable with old missions or missions in development. What i propose, is that since the new units shall be replacing the old unit packs, then i will integrate the old unit 'ids' into the new pack, matching them to their corresponding new units. Hence when the new unit pack is released, all the old missions should be compatable with the cwmod's new release, which will be the version 2.0 beta.

Sounds great Tsa good luck! You should check out fraps ;) //EDIT Incidentally u filthy pig dogs lol, *Ahem* since trig might not be able to keep the site up indefinately, its time for a new site to perhaps get made etc, so lets have some ideas, i have a chap working on a customisable php (which we'll further customise) but what features would ya like to have on the new site?
  25. gavinthecat

US Civil War Mod ver.1.0 Beta Released

Yup sneakysix this is until the new site goes up, 'effectively' the CWMOD forum, and i hate to damage the illusion of mod perfection but since we all know teams recruit and have to do dirty work lol, im sure it wont hurt too many peoples feelings if we do it in this thread or not : ) - u can always just look at the pictures tho muhhahahaha As in regards to publicity, well its important, but good addons, maps etc are for more important, and thats what these discussions are for. Right, well at the moment the old release of the cwmod was 1.2 if im not mistaken. Well im going to propose we work on a team beta for version 2.0, followed quickly by a public beta version 2.0 This will include, 1) The new units, that have replaced and expanded on all the old units from v1.2 2) An updated GUI (no serious changes - only very slightly) 3) Updated AI coding for weapons, scripts. 4) Possible updating of some map objects featured in pickets map (but only of course with his permission) and hopefully 5) working and animated cavalry units, utilising carbines and melee weaponry. Time frame - approximately 4 weeks for team beta i suspect. 5 - 6 for public. Regards Gavin *wink*
