Or is there another reason my East German family didn't recieve any of those 'wonders' of Communism. Especially on the Health care... My father needed a heart operation that the couldn't be done anywhere in the East. Â His priest got in touch with a Texas doctor that would do it for free. Â He escaped from east Germany in 1969 after his second try. Â During the first one he was shot in the back of the leg by border patrol (who had to keep people IN). Yes, wonderful healthcare and social services. Â A country that has to shoot people to stop them from leaving has self evident virtues.

    Side arms

I just had a situation tonight when I came over a hill, and BAM! There were Commies all over. I killed 7! of them with one clip (I'm a bad aim so I'm proud ), I aimed for the 8th and...click, click... The irony is he was just kneeling down, aiming, and I could picture myself pulling out a pistol and killing him as he shot me

That 3600 figure is slightly more legitimate than a made up number of casualties. We won't know the actual number; live with it. As far as playing the 'Taliban', there is a HUGE, HUGE difference between the Taliban and the Afghan Mujaheddin (spelled correctly, I checked ). Leaders of the Taliban did very little fighting in the Russian conflict, most of them hid out in Pakistan until the civil war erupted and then rolled in fresh from lack of fighting. Most of the real nationalists and heroes against Soviet occupation died in the fighting. Many of the veteran units that did the brunt of the fighting split up after the war into different factions. Members of the Northern Alliance actually saw much more action during the campaign than most anyone in the Taliban. I'd gladly play guerrilla combat though... it is probably my favorite thing to do in the game. Plus the set up of OFP lends itself nicely to an Afghan mod: lots of hills, mountains, no rivers, plenty of Soviet hardware; cover & surprise are well implamented. If I understood Mods I'd get cracking on it

I miss pistols as well... not that I think they'd be very useful in the practical sense, but I prefer smaller arms... Plus there have been a few times I've unloaded my rifle and have needed a few more shots, or was in a bad time/place to reload.

Most of them were Saudi Arabian and a few Egyptians. Several of them had never even been to Afghanistan. There will NEVER be an accurate account of how many civilians were killed by American bombs. Never. Estimates are really useless in this situation. In the most mine covered country in the world, where the Taliban had shown no discrimination between using weapons on civilians, it is impossible to tell what killed most of these people. And for the Israel thing... yes, America supports legitimate democracies; I'm sorry that upsets you so much. The fact that you think Israel calls the shots and the support is unconditional means you would greatly benefit from doing a little research into the nature and conditions of the relationship. Oh, yeah, and the topic... I'd love to see a Soviet-Afghan campaign... basically because guerrilla warfare is done very nicely in OFP, and most of the hardware used in that conflict is already incorperated in the game. However, the Afghan's didn't use the modern Western equipment in the game; most of what they used was stolen from the Russians or bought through 3rd party dealers.

    I have some questions

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (The Judge @ Mar. 06 2002,10:31)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">well it seems i am in thise mission where we retreat from a attack but i must brake from the collony  with alpha squad and go to some villige at the end of a dirty track. But me and my squad get nailed there so damm fast What do i do.<span id='postcolor'> I think your squad is SUPPOSED to get wiped out on this mission. During that part, I pretty much hit the dirt and let my squad do most of the work. Disembark early to take away their main target. I watched the right flank where three enemies ended up coming from and apparently only took fire from me, so that was important. I'm 90% that mission is supposed to be a slaughter though... great mission, I played through it again last night

    Why no training?

It makes the assumption your characters ARE trained. I agree, the first time I had to pilot a helicopter I crashed so much I gave up. The best way to learn is to use the single missions or use the editor as a scenario. On the job training works. Even though I still can't grenade worth crap.

Good times had by all when playing ofp

I guess I can add my great war story... It was on a tank mission around the middle of the campaign where you go through the mine ambush... my tank got wasted because I was first of the pack and I had to eject and make the invasion by foot. My force was reduced to 3 tank people on feet, and two M1's, with half my crew injured. I grabbed an AK74 and a RPG launcher from one of the downed Commies as we were ordered to make the invasion happen at all costs. Well, to cut the long story short I called for the other team to attack and sent my group in from a flanking position since I assumed the road was still mined. I went on foot through the mined area hoping I could call out positions from a highpoint (which I never found). There was a Hind circling the area that I knew would be hell to tanks. I saw it come around once as I approached to the closest building to the road and went for cover next to it across the street from the Church. I heard some small arms fire that I thought was directed at me close by. I heard the Hind without seeing it so I armed the RPG launcher, and the second I had the targeting sight out I saw the Hind right in my cross hairs coming over from behind the Church less than 100 meters away. I instinctively pulled the trigger and scored a direct hit, the Hind flipped from the impact and went rotar first into the building I was hiding behind! I was injured and knocked back a few feet; the crashing Hind completely destroyed the building. I snuck around the other side and saw a small Russian infantry platoon that had been coming at me from the other side and had been a victim of a chopper crash. I felt so Rambo. It was great. I ended up taking out a BMP and a T-72 by the end of the mission from hiding in buildings and sneaking out to fire.
