    What is a "flashpoint"?

Strangely, it seems like you are all correct, and BIS used the ambiguity of that phrase to mean all of them (temperature, muzzle-flash, nuclear-flash, World War III erupting at any moment, etc.). -G

[ot] what's wrong with this picture?

http://www.dtig.de/whatswrong/ Make sure the volume on your speakers is on, though, since there's an audio clue that pops up every 20 or 30 seconds. -G

How much was OFP influnced by...

Perhaps members of Bohemia Interactive have played Twilight: 2000 and/or read Red Storm Rising sometime in the mid-late 1980's (translated into Czech, of course)? -G

I think I can define what I love about OFP

You mean that it wasn't Meathead or I Spy that drew you all into the game? -G

    Meathead?

And those 18-20 year old kids from 1985 who survived the conflict are now old in 2002. Â Granted, that's a heck of a lot better than having died in the conflict, but still... Â -G

How outstanding OFP is compared to MOH?

Actually, it's even simpler than that: Operation Flashpoint = Fun Ghost Recon = Fun Medal of Honor = I don't know since I haven't played it yet Return to Castle Wolfenstein = I don't know since I haven't played it yet Etcetera, etcetera... -G

    Flashpoint expansion

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">are they going to add new tanks like the T-90 I want new hinds ,and important of all more russian weapons I for a special event the nucleru missile from SCUD trucks or nucleur submarines... anyone want the ak-103?<span id='postcolor'> I doubt it, since the game takes place in 1985 and the T-90 was introduced in the early 1990's. The same goes for all the post-1985 "new" vehicles and equipment that we in 2002 now take for granted. Â And truth be told, part of OFP's charm is the time period it takes place in and the game's authenticity to that time period! Â -G

They don't have a clue what's going on and all get killed in Montignac - sorta makes you think how wasteful war is.<span id='postcolor'> I didn't think about that... that's a good point! Â Playing as one of the soldiers in OFP, yet being old myself in real life, I guess it's easy to forget that most soldiers when starting out are usually between 18-20 years of age - which is another thing that sets OFP apart from other military games like Ghost Recon or Delta Force, where you already start off in a Special Forces unit (where the soldiers are typically in their mid-to-late 20's, since they've already served in the military for some time). And the fact that they're school kids just truly starting out life (and that many of them die throughout the war) does indeed drive home the point of how wasteful war is! Â -G

How outstanding OFP is compared to MOH?

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Now Ghost Recon is a game that should be compared to OFP. Even though i reckon OFP woops its ass and has way more potential and longetivity.<span id='postcolor'> Not really. Â Both Operation Flashpoint and Ghost Recon are military games, but each is actually quite different in purpose, theme, and execution from the other. Each has certain strengths and weaknesses over the other, and neither completely whoops the others' ass. Â I own both games and enjoy them both immensely for somewhat different reasons - although I know that I'm now going to be flamed here for not being negative toward Ghost Recon. Â In any case, this is a great time for fans of realistic first-person war simulators, with the obvious current four (Operation Flashpoint, Ghost Recon, Medal of Honor, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein), as well as World War II Online, to be joined soon by the likes of C&C: Renegade, Battlefield 1942, Global Operations, Hidden and Dangerous 2, and Tactical Ops: Assault on Terror! </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">heck i barely even remember the gulf war<span id='postcolor'> That's one of the times I personally worried the most, as I had turned 19 about two months before the Gulf War began - so I was at the perfect draftable age! Â Fortunately, though, it never came down to the draft (the media had initially built everyone up to believe that it would be an extremely bloody conflict for the U.S., with Iraq's military being the "fourth-largest in the world" and all that). Oh man, how I hate being old! Â -G

    Is playing OFP depressing?

I remember that the Tom Clancy/Larry Bond novel Red Storm Rising was first published in 1986, about a year after OFP takes place (I'm sure that the novel was one of the sources of inspiration for OFP's development crew ). Â Of course, that novel and those times must seem like a million years ago to the young'uns of today, but for some reason I remember those times like it was yesterday. Â Damn, I'm old! Â -G
