I think savegame is useful when you do all this traveling just to get shot or your fighting stagnant CQB with sniper AI.  I honesetly think that there should be a difficulty based save system so savegame was a really useful cheat.  In some cases your skill has nothing to do with beating a mission. The AI keeps on sniping you with Iron site weapons and has little error. But I totally respect those who can play without using that exploit.  Some of you must really love war  Personally my instincts are crap. I'm the guy who fell for all the evil traps in that Blood Note mission in FDF (I swear, I don't always play that mod... just that there is so much to talk about it)

yes... seems like something stealthy is going on... Discover and *save* all the clues before your head explodes from speculating too much! Sounds so much a certain Sci Fi channel TV show!

Optional flight dynamics for helos
Friedchiken replied to Baphomet's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Good suggestion, make the flight model not require a $65 custom manual but won't allow action freaks (like me ^.^) to tear up the battlefield so easily. Thought all I can say is that if it will be harder to pilot the aircraft, I want the ai to have a engage at will mode where they fire away at anything without my constant direction, since I'll be spinning out of control like in MS Flight simulater . -
Matchmover has released v0.6 of his snowboards! Must be a sort of vehicle and new animations! OFP Base homepage EDIT:: actually the header's too mean. I'm just alluding to skiing requests to FDF
-
In terms of quality, it's hardly a good addon but I appreciate the fact that he even made one.  I don't like the 1st person view point.  But there's so much potential.  I only "boarded" on the non-snow islands but I think the control is terrible but crazy fun nontheless.  I would have liked no sound at all and tilting like a motorcycle.  I definately would like a follow up. Imagine, a more polished board that you could use for a fast courier FDF mission  EDIT:: BTW, thanks mods for changing my boar(d) mistake. I really think my keyboard sometimes don't respond to some keys while typing fast.

I think they were trying to make some sort of suppressing through bushes type thing. Too bad they failed but I guess they have their reasons for not changing this. Plus they are still useful as they give cover or make the enemy's shots more inaccurate. Being in cover is still more important than being in the open. I commanded AI in the CSLA mod (first playable mission) to go behind trees and they crazily shot at the enemy without casualties while me and two guys flanked the opfor. But yeah, when the AI detects you, they know where you are at all times no matter how bad they shoot at you.

there was already the most massive debate thread of all time arguing about a war on terror scenario. I thinks it was the war on drugs thread. Â Also the Flashpoint 2 Site Updated? thread We exausted most options especially a campaign from the terrors' point of view. (not that I would like to play such a boring whiny campaign )

Bushes that hide you but are impassable
Friedchiken replied to Friedchiken's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Ever tried hiding from a patrol behind a car? Hiding like that is so tense and funny, esp when they round the corner. Hiding in the brush mostly shouldn't give 360 degrees of stealth but can help alot if you a prone at the side of the bush. When the enemy is directly in front of you ( give some room for error), it should be easier to see you compared to other positions unless it's dark and your silloette is hidden by the larger shape. -
I think BIS designer intent is already clear with the bush objects on Nogova but I really think that Ghost Recon is the best example of bushes that hid you but soldiers couldn't just go prone in them and "become the bush" From what I remember from GR, you couldn't pass through the "stumps" but the outer braches where non-clipping which acted as a way to snuggle into the bush without unrealistically clipping into the object. Â Bushes should block the profile better (no brainer, I probably shouldn't mention it) but if a character may need to shift his position as an enemy group goes around the bush. From what I learned in nature, bushes can be pretty sharp and soldiers aren't forrest nymphs that pass through foliage easily. Â Bushes are like mini-trees enforcing thier spacial comfort with man with sharp edges. I hope some people can understand me when I encounter some iffy AI placement or multiplayer games when people can easily see you but they are so inside the center of the bush that you can only see a black thingy in a green blob. This is most evident in multiplayer where in the old islands the cities sometimes had decorative bushes that people would lie down in and shoot you with full sight but all you saw was decorative bush. As for tall grass, that's a bit of a different plant and I guess you could easily lie down in that easily in the brush. I think bushes shouldn't be so easy to see through for the hider so he should have to go to the bush's side and shoot form there. I hope some people can understand what I'm getting at. Â

Yeah, for example the water reeds in the classic Ambush mission. Those are like grass and are extremely bendable. I wouldn't mind if you just clip through them -
Handling cqb: the cqb "stance"
Friedchiken replied to Friedchiken's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Ok, again on movements. My family recently got a new treadmill and while alone I figured something: In ofp the endurance run is actaully the most efficient way to run despite how funky it looks ingame. It doesn't tire your arms and it was natural to run from the hip if all you want to do is to run a distance while keeping the gun in the general direction. And it's realistic how you can't hit a dang thing! Next thing, since this is specifically a thread related to stances, I would suggest if BIS goes to do mo-cap again for the animations, that they have the guy aim the gun in the most natural practical way without worrying about how much space the gun takes of the screen. If you've used some of the custom animation packs, the way a gun is held make it take more screen space than the purposely hold the gun to one side (the right) in a wide-view but not usual stance. What I mean is that I want the animations to aim from the shoulder and not the elbow pit -
Handling cqb: the cqb "stance"
Friedchiken replied to Friedchiken's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I think what heatseeker means is that cover doesn't really affect how the ai aims at you. They may be able to just se that peice of flesh exposed and fire away without being obstructed by the fact that they can't see the rest of your body. They only see the position. Basically the ai can see you clearly when they detect you due to their programming (they only know your position, they don't actually "see") and don't suffer under the sight abiguities that humans have to decipher (friend or foe, where in the brush, should I fire blindly into an area) -
Im hit! oh my god i've been hit!
Friedchiken replied to Impavido's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
wait. we already have bleeding to death. I wonder what is up... -
Hm, maybe you have a point. I'll give it a rest. Oh! but I want buildings to have as few clipping issues as possible! Okay, I'll shut up about CQB even if there's a discussion
-
Does the armor pack include that cool car from Taxi 2? I may be an "ignorant American" but when I saw the ninjas flip around and hit the GIGN guys I became a "fan." Well, until the crazy Taiwanese people in the bus got bored and changed the VCD French seems like such a cool special forces language
-
I guess that's a point but what I mean is that you have all these mission makers that try to enforce cqb on the player especially Nagual in his Delta Hostage Rescue Mission (cluster-phobic clipping and AI that doesn't follow you tightly). Probably it's not the fault of the maps but when your fanbase keeps on making CQB situations there should map layouts that should better facilitate CQB like cover points, ect.

Has anyone posted about the MIG bug where you can't go up. Even the AI crashes into the water when it turns.

I played the demo some time it was just released. And I loved the jeep so much, I wanted to drive it until the leader told me to stop it (You can tell I loved the buggy addon when it was released, I just played halo a month ago so that jeep years ago was fun). And I was really psyched during the truck drive. I remember the times where I couldn't shoot straight (even with ironsites) and I had to run through the trees and flank the guys up close (they shot me, naturally ^.^). And the tanks, that was funny. I remember just playing the mission again when I bought the real game and didn't see the cool ending . The funny thing was, heh, I sorta thought the game was tedious (dear god) and I forgot about it for awhile. I screwed up thing was that I would redownload the demo and play with it 3 times over the years jus' cause. Americans didn't pay attention to it and I didn't either. But then after Computer Gaming World published Bruce vs Tom in OFP CTF, I started getting interested again and again. After awhile, the curiousity grew. When did I get Flashpoint? Holy **** I bought Morrowind when flashpoint was right in front of my eyes. Longer gameplay, no way, just some excuse for boring to comatose gameplay. And then it was another month before I got the gold (one without RES) pack. Next sad thing: The campaign was fun except for one thing. I copied the freaking strategy guide and that kids, isnotfun... And I pretty much beat Red Hammer with the ENDMISSION cheat. Yes, horrible story I know. Sorry if the story has become R rated already And as you can all guess, I didn't really learn how to commander well. At least I didn't ENDMISSION that freaking campaign. By the way, is bomberman not the freaking best sniper mission (bis, not user)? Next messed up thing: I bought Ghost Recon: Island Thunder before Resistance. To make another long story short, GR:IT was not worth $20. 2 months pass Then Resistance stopped selling at Best Buy (man, FUBAR) when it occured to my "dim" mind (actually I'm smarter than that) that it might be better than vanilla OFP. Then I ordered it online for $5. (plus $8) Downloaded all the BAS Deltas I was drooling over the month before. And flew off hills killing myself in the bike mission. Missions too hard, must actually play campaign... Well, the Resistance campaign was the most enthralling campaign I played. My heart was thumping during every (tank) battle (hey, it's not one shot one kill ). It also taught me actual commander tricks like hiding men manually and useing the danger command (yes, I was that "inept"). Too bad I realized that machine guns were overpowered. In later levels I would arm every man with a PK and rake far way enemies with fire. fun. And don't forget about running away from tanks in an ammo truck . Finally ("Dear god grampa chiken! no more, no more!") I fiddled with the community's mods and maps and got owned again with user missions. The rest is history - that's mine and I don't want to explain more Anyone remember when most of BIS's mission were hard? Thanks to the community for completely kicking my ass again and again with your missions.

Please make opf 2 support trackir
Friedchiken replied to gaming247's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Man, we keep on piling and piling and piling work every second Still, I second that request. Even though it's too expensive for me, I actually use the "freelook" toggle using the capslock key (especially when running away as a spec ops). -
(Simulating a "OMG! Our APC blew up!" voice) Please! Don't do it! I was kidding!!!
-
awsome idea but the best thing would be to make mod support be able to do this. I hope BIS doens't lose track of whatever their original plans were. But hey, I don't call the shots. And a campaign like that would be the best turn-based game ever!

Im hit! oh my god i've been hit!
Friedchiken replied to Impavido's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I think the easiest way to make this system worthwhile is to implement wounded lifesavers in the score.  Right now level designer can penalize your for friendly deaths.  Allowing the return of wounded friends could save some of those points, not all because we don't want people shooting each other for points  This shouldn't be the bulk of the "island" programing. Where you can leave the wounded would be decided by the level designer by the use of area scripts. I wish for this system just because I feel so sheepish for having johnnies die in die-hard soldier missions. Also, a squad commander should have the choice to bring which guys to bring in a mission (numbers of the squad would be decided by the level designer, like say the CO wants you to bring only 4 men of your choice). In ofp, playing the PMC Ranger Campaign, when your guys were injured they would be carried over into the next mission but with shot up legs, requiring you to abandon them to the enemy (And thus robbing me of my heroic efforts before then ) I would have liked an option to not bring them at all or even hire the help of some army regulars to take their place. Oh, and I don't want a tiny selection of men, this is a war sim and sometimes massive death happens whether we could avoid it or not EDIT:: Yes, I'm pointing at Ghost Recon. Rainbow Six was reasonable but even "ghosts" can get injured right? -
When I ask for cqb, I just want something like the SAS hostage crisis to be possible. Large scale urban combat can become very lame especially with crime scenarios.

Handling cqb: the cqb "stance"
Friedchiken replied to Friedchiken's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Okay, I tried walking about indoors again and I found the speed perfect I'm not sure about the way the soldiers hold the guns against their elbows but it's actually okay. The only thing I want is for a running handgun animation where the gun is lowered in front of the body and not like the unarmed running OFP2 is mainly going to be a serious upgrade of the VBS engine right? -
m21's reply seemed a little sarcastic to me. Just, um, kiss and make up guys. Not that I actually expect you guys to do exactly that.
