... I not sure if any time distance could make this subject matter OK. As for terrorist using this game: probably won't make a difference. At worst its a sick fantasy that any anarchist has already considered and mock planned. No net damage done. Most terrors have AKs and Stingers. Same with leaking Army tactics in games; most terrorist already knew that Americans use big guns and tactics, before the games media. All they need is a sniper spot. But I really wonder why there was motivation to make this game for "historical" reasons. (Oh, and the only real time anyone sickly used the media for info were the Feyadeen watching Black Hawk Down. The cell phone idea helped them shoot down helicopters, but most of the info actually hurt them: eg rpg ambushes on M1 Abrams were blown up.) So... is any SANE volunteer willing to try out this software and provide some discussion material? (I'm assuming its free...) EDIT:: Hey! It's an investigation! Maybe they are trying to investigate the human element...

DXDLL 1.0 (not Geforce MX compatible)
Friedchiken replied to kegetys's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
The new tracer effects activated through the config file are a mindblowing addition for firefights. The flying effect is sooo much better than the old laser effect. Why weren't they on the menu? Anyways, I have another reason to make random maps and tinker with units. ^.^ Best. Mod. Ever. -
Would it be ok if we just download the beta version from OFPEC? I think that version is fairly stable.

Whenever the games media ever talks about Rainbow Six as the original tactical shooter, I wonder if they were paying attention to one game that came out the same year as DOOM. *Stands on Soap-Box I'm talking about Seal Team (1993), a wargame that faithfully recreated the SEAL's experience in Vietnam. Â You could do so many things in that game: Â Take prisoners, set demolitions, call support, etc. Â IMO, Seal Team is now even more fun than Rainbow Six 3 in terms of single player. Â I was a wee child back when it was released but I can say now that Seal Team is still one of the most realistic experiences among games. I just wonder why the game didn't make a serious impact at its time or even now. Maybe I'm making too big a deal of the gaming press but what do you guys think? Â

About the prisoners: They are supposed to backstab you when you guys are preoccupied.  That why Seal Team has one of the greatest inventory options - Handcuffs  No, really, I had a great adrenaline rush after seeing those in the equip screen.

I know that site. It's just that I wanted to ask Hellfish whether it was ok to post it. (As you see, I'm really lazy online. Also, do we consider abandonware OK? I mean there is no way to make money off of it now.) Ok, now I use the program called DosBox and it runs Seal Team fairly well on XP. lemme link it. Dos Box utility

Having parents from Taiwan, I would just like to add that Taiwan's political system is extremely broken. If anyone though the US elections were bad, this place is worse. Most of the politicians out there stand for nothing, not even little things like gay marriage (like that's a national crisis ). It's also part of the education system over there. Taiwan's children have no sense of independence and responsibilty due to protective parents and the dangers of the streets. They also memorize everything by rote and never develope the thinking skills emphasized by the American school systems. I admit that you can't understand a nation without living in it but asian countries can seem chaotic and aimless sometimes to me. Hopefully I'm not making a serious generalization about the people there. Sorry in advance anyways

I may be a little repetitive but I think the devs would be unique in the way that they should sacrifice anything for practical environments: Realistic view distances Tons of cover/concealment objects Weather that may not look the best but at least aids/hinders view realistically It would be nice if some eye candy was utilized but I think that nothing justifies compromising realistic (read: practical) gameplay environments This is just my opinion; I also love great graphics like anyone else here.

Well, Metal Gear Solid 3 kinda shows how the Cold War era can be further explored without going the standard Vietnam route.  Though I think that people should be more creative in the way the different sides are portrayed.  Realism stories can get kinda grey (read, hard to portray without blundering bias) but maybe the story could be like a shadow ops kind of thing where both Americans and Russians have to deal with each other indirectly Say, multiple small campaigns can focus on both Russians and Americans dealing with guerilla forces.  I'm just not sure if the CIA was really successful in starting some serious movements. A really funny idea (or not),  Spetnaz are sent to Western Europe to stake out  recent convoy movements in the hills (and in neutral territory at that ).  It's a recon mission and American casualties are frowned upon.  Yet there may be an ethnic conflict and there may be some "third world" loons that need to be taken out as well.  There could a breif string of missions regarding the infiltration and exfiltration.  This type of scenario could apply to American Special Forces as these events might be around the late 70s or (really) early 80s

I agree, though this should be done for weight and length so each rifle should have different max speeds. (ie class types should NOT be hard-coded and should be set individually for each different weapon) But also, maybe there should not be a huge difference between similar weapons. Â Pistol vs machine pistol vs rifle (carbine status should not make a huge difference) vs heavy weapons (ig anti-tank or M60) would be the only significant differences just for sake of over-generalization. Maybe inertia of the weapon might make firing crazy with a heavy weapon more nuts. Though that feature is less important than other issues. Then again... is the Stoner of the Vietnam War era technically a heavy-rifle instead of a capital Heavy-weapon? Â I'm reading this book called History of the Navy Seals II: The Vietnam Years as this medical-capable Seal seemed to like the weapon because he wasn't exactly a markman. Â

Well, if the will be a "'very' close combat" then maybe it should be proximity based on trigger with specific weapons such as bayonettes. Like that british mod. Then then won't be people bracing out their knives like crazy. On second thought, I think knives would not work, but a bayonette option may be more practical as people will still have their guns at hand.

BIS WWI Plane fights are surprisingly fun. And put some hostile resistance bmps to provide some low level anti air.
-
LOL. Was I the only person to absorb the humor of the comment? Anyways, I would pick the Tazmanian Devil as hopeless spy wannabes rock! Well, only if the fight was a popularity contest. Otherwise, Victor Troska b/c I thought his missions were more fun than Lutkin's. Or a judo-fight b/t the two would be close call.

uh, pardon? I think that anyone could cut down someone's legs with a gun, let alone a medic. And run away.

VBS addons for OPF? Sound off.....
Friedchiken replied to bugkill's topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Well, if you think of it, woudn't it make more sense just to base addons of real-life and leave the legal aspect of VBS1 conversion alone? I think that using the VBS addons as a "inspiration" wouldn't hurt either as long as the modders create their own work. -
VBS addons for OPF? Sound off.....
Friedchiken replied to bugkill's topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
What i"m interested in is the Voice.pbo that was trimmed for vbs1. I noticed that the ai reacts faster w/o the voice file but I only want to remove some of the files, not all of them. Is it possible for a VBS Voice.pbo to be distributed? I'm not sure if there is anything special about the file other than that it has fewer verbal commands -
Has already been discussed but I think putting in another vote would be ok
-
uh-oh, maybe they are not supposed to be like that

Ok, well, I think I would be glad if such an ugly set-piece of "art" was power-drilled. Â However, I think there's much more at stake than just the stupid cow. Â What about the sentiments of the artist(s)? Â What about their feelings? Â I noticed that in the quotes there are no interviews of the people who (horrendously) painted the cow. (EDIT) WE SHOULD RESPECT HINDU BELIEFS TOO!!!!!!!!! I think devout believers would be pissed if such a noble *cough* icon was destroyed
-
That's wicked clever. And so stupid obvious if you think about it. All this time people have been seeing pre-rendered movies like Toy Story and Shrek but noone except you ever thought of doing the same thing on a private scale.

well, I think having limbs blown off would be a challenge to implement in the scope of keeping gamplay from being too random in respect to the player's skill. I think if a guy's arm is directly damaged, the avatar should drop the gun (or hang it off the shoulders) and lose arm use. Â But then a medic's implementation should allow the arm to be usable again (but the avatar's aim would be so terrible, to reflect human mortality). I remember a fighting game for the N64 like Bio-?-?-? that allowed lost limbs but then that led to weird behaviors in terms of gameplay. (people shrugging in battle) Legs also should be easily remobilized by a medic (for gamplay purposes) but movement should be agonizingly slow to reflect the avatar's inability to defend itself b/c of injury. This lack of injury brutality was in Metal Gear Solid 2 and it still seemed interactive w/o hindering certain gameplay elements (okay, it was only for the opfor but it was cool anyways imo) In short, injuries should be penalizing but not to the point that they make long mission completion impossible

Still, I think you could make a nice cinematic effect with the pose like having a helicopter hover as you attack an area.

Helicopters and aircraft: HUD and instruments?
Friedchiken replied to HKFlash's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
that gunner targeting idea sounds good. I think the ofp2 should prevent the pilot from utilizing gunner specific target systems anyways, so that the gunner becomes a more important job.
