Thanks for your points of view guys! I will release a stand alone version soon. Doomguy Edit: bummer! Wrong account

    Ofp deleting everything on harddisk!

I see that the patch that *supposedly* fixes the catastrophic partition-wiping bug has still not been posted on the official sites represention OFP. Hence the newest version (1.91) downloaded by the average customers *still* contains the problem. I have no other words for this but YOU SUCK.

    Ofp deleting everything on harddisk!

Well, a notice on their websites (i.e. the page I get to see when I type www.flashpoint1985.com or www.codemasters.com) is the very least I expect. Right now, the average customer, who does not read these forums, is unaware of the damage the currently official version of OFP can cause.

I'll make my own mind up about BIS' customer service. Their failure to handle this very serious defect in their software is enough reason for me to completely lose any faith I had in them. One cannot help but wonder what damage future BIS products may cause. Operation Flashpoint 2: Clean Sweep (featuring low-level format at random intervals, the fastest in the industry!), anyone?

Funny, this "emergency patch" is nowhere to be found on BIS' or Codemaster's websites. I guess that shows how much they care about their customers.

    Ofp deleting everything on harddisk!

It is completely unacceptable that this problem exists within OFP, and BIS has made no effort to warn its customers. I have just experienced the loss of over 60 GB of data due to this bug in OFP. Why does this happen in the first place? Why has BIS/Codemasters not warned its customers through mail or on its website? Surely they are not expecting their customers to read forums? Why has this bug not been fixed in an emergency patch? Why is "DirectPlay" the DEFAULT when creating a server, while it is KNOWN FOR A LONG TIME that it possibly causes the loss of data? Answer me those questions, and apologize, else you can forget any future purchases from my part.

    Sound distorting

Dear people, I recently installed XP Pro and using the latest SBLive! drivers has condemned me to suffering from the exact same problems as you. Severe sound distortion, especially when driving vehicles, is the most noticeable effect. The only `solution' there seemed to be was the complete elimination of hardware accelerated sound. Now for the good news. After pondering and tinkering for several days I stumbled upon a registry key named "Turbo". Not a very unusual name you might think, but on second thought, maybe it is odd indeed if it occurs in the context of your soundcard's driver settings. Anyway, changing its value to "0" instead of the default "1" seems to alleviate the distortion I experience by many factors. But, alas, it is not gone completely. The distortion rears its ugly head again when higher pitched sounds play. In practice this means you can now drive a tank at full speed and refrain from covering your ears, but not a jeep. Maybe you are more lucky than me. Paste the following into a text file and name it noturbo.reg or somesuch, just get the .reg extension in there: </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"> Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\CreativeTech\Emu10kx\DriverSettings\Wave\Pin#00000002] "Turbo"=dword:00000000 <span id='postcolor'> When you have saved the file, double-click it to update the registry. No reboot is necessairy before running OFP. Please do report back with your findings. I would be especially interested to know at what kinds of sounds you experience distortion. For me it seem to be the high pitched sounds, which leads me to believe the sound driver is over-amplifying certain tones. Maybe someone has further ideas as to where settings might be hidden? I would also be thankful to any Windows 98 user that could look for similar registry entries in his register, and tell us about any interesting settings he or she might find. Yours, Falconer PS. The above hack has completely solved comparable distortion problems I suffered in IL2 Sturmovik.

    Joystick/rudder bug persists.

Too bad this still isn't fixed in 1.46 ...
  11. They fixed a similar bug in patch 1.45 according to this line from the readme: </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">- Fixed: Airplane: Autodetection of joystick / keyboard thrust was wrong. After using joystick thrust it was impossible to switch back to keyboard thrust.<span id='postcolor'> However, the rudder still can no longer be controlled by the keyboard after you have touched the joystick. Very annoying if you don't have a joystick with a z-axis to control the rudder, and just assigned the appropriate keys (left/right) to joystick buttons.

Oxygen not being freely distributed online!

Of course they (BIS, Codemasters) are in it for the money, they are a company. What a lot of people here forget is that they depend on BIS making money to get support and future products. You can whine and show your lack of understanding of the real world all you like, but there is only one way to express your opinion in a capitalist market: don't spend your money on products you don't like. Maruk noted that they (BIS) are not obligated in any way to release their developement tools to the public for free. He couldn't be more right. Why on earth would they release something for free that could likely hamper the sales of one of their future products. It would require an incredible lack of vision to do such a thing. BIS made the right choice. Keep up the good work guys!

How to stop people from using their Microphones

I suppose you could drop all packets to the port used for voice communication. I'm not sure what ports you would need to try, but I guess tcp & udp 2234.

    OFP vs GHOST RECON

Move this to the off topic forum please. We're only interested in OFP here, not Ghost Recon or whatever.
