Bas island - working title "lost island"

It wont be released in the next couple of days, so certainly not time to start getting your knickers in a twist.

    Bas blackhawks

Like he's saying, it's all the same engine, from the first Blackhawk to the newest MH-60S. Â It's all the GE-401. Â The difference is the model. Â Most -60's have the 401C now, which is the upgrade, basically allowing it to run hotter, thereby providing more power. Now if only BAS could make a Seahawk to insert those SEALs with.... I know this is a bit off topic, so forgive me but... I stand corrected. Â We just had an HH-60H roll into our line here, and as it was taxing in, it did actually sound different. Â I think the difference was the IR suppressors on the engines, but it did actually have a different sound. Â Is it vastly different? Â No, but just something kind of interesting to hear. Â Sorry for the distraction...Nice helos, nice island, when's "x" gonna be released? Â There, now back on topic. Â Dont the SH-60B's and HH-60H's have different engines?: SH-60B (or F, im sure you know which) HH-60H: The HH-60H seems to have the same engine as the Army blackhawks, while the SH-60's engine is quite visibly different. Unless of course that is the IR filter you mentioned.

    Payware addons- new trend?

Absolutely, think of how many parents with no idea about games will be shopping for christmas, birthdays etc, having no idea about the game, there are enough gullible people to buy expansions.

    Just out of curiosity

I dont believe that at all, infact, if we learnt the meaning of life, people would bitch because we didnt tell them sooner, there is no winning, however, being able to offer a service to people that really do appreciate our addons and the hard work put into them, but just arent able to download them all is a very good idea in my opinion, its not really about the cash, yes it would help with server bills etc or various other things that are caused by long hours of addon making (bills etc), but its more about giving the people that really do appreciate our hard work something that may make their life easier. The people that post on these forums represent about a tenth of the community, people in the addon section of the forums who regularly download addons may see no need for a service like this, and of course they are entitled to their own opinion, as are the hundreds of people that email us a month. I think Tigershark's main reason for posting something inquiring about payware is because at the moment being an addon maker is rather depressing, we at bas probably spend thousands of man-hours of work on an addon, and the majority of the comments are praising, however there are still those that have no concept of the amount of work put in, no consideration for the feelings of the addon maker that make comments that pretty much ruin the whole thing for the addon maker, we do this for fun, we do this as a hobby and we do this as we enjoy the fact that we entertain people, however sometimes there is a feeling of very little thanks, and i think tigershark, and quite a few other members of BAS are pretty pissed at certain members of the community. i know some of you probably think we have our head up our asses, think we're above you all, or have silly ideas of elitism, but its so far from the truth its not even funny, we make addons FOR the community, not to make ourselves feel good.

    Just out of curiosity

Firstly, boy did you get the wrong end of the stick, what i was proposing is a service on the side that allows people to order a CD with all our addons on online via mail, it would not affect the free downloads in any way, people would still be able to download them. And they would be the same as the versions hosted online, also, in no way would we be charging for the addon, again, we have had repeated requests for a service of this type, so the demand in the community IS there. Also, BAS will NOT be going payware in any way, i can say this as a certainty, everyone in the team considers this a bad idea, this thread was purely an inquiry by Tigershark into the community's reception to something like this. As for bugs, show me one game, or any piece of software that comes without bugs, as noone on the BAS team has Linux, or has access to a linux server there was no way for us to test any bugs on Linux. And please, lets not start bashing each others addons, or things really will start to get ugly.

    Just out of curiosity

Im not sure how, it would still not be paying for the addons or any work, the little extra was for the person taking time out of his life to package the CD's, transfer them across from the hard drive, organize the postage, stamps etc, not the effort of addon making. But even so, i dont think we would consider doing anything illegal, so again assume that IF it was legal would you consider having mail order addons? And bear in mind they will also be available on the internet for free, this is to be honest more of a different subject than what Tigersharkis talking about, but i didnt feel the need to clutter up the forum with another thread, if the mods say that i should then i will. And i think what a lot of you dont realize is that a lot of addon makers LOSE money by making the addons, for example in BAS we have someone that is self employed, and lost hundreds of pounds by not working because he was busy making an addon that the majority of the community loved. Although, my proposal is something quite different from Tigersharks, mine isnt really about the money, more about providing a sevice for people who have trouble downloading the addons, we have had several requests for CD's to be sent to people, for example, one soldier serving in the US Army in Baghdad emailed us asking if we could send our addons to him, because he wasnt able to download them and missed playing with them, there have also been countless other emails requesting this. So even if the people reading this dont specifically need it, there is a large amount of people wanting this type of thing.

    Just out of curiosity

Just another 'Out of Curiosity', what do people think about paying for a CD to be sent to you containing addons? So basically mail order, obviously this wont apply to most of you as you can download addons, but there are some with either limits, or on slow connections where it would be cheaper and faster to have the addons sent to you than to download them, so what do people think of mail order addons? And obviously this would, for example, be a compilation of all BAS' addons in one package, which would total probably nigh on 200mb of addons. And the addons would be freely available for download, the charge would be only for posting and packaging, the CD's and a little extra for the effort, not the addons themselves. Again, dont read into this too much, we're just wondering what the community's reaction to these sorts of things would be.

    Unscripted war: vietnam pack

Actually there was a mainforce VC battalion in the battle, which i believe overran some of the troops (triggering the 'Broken Arrow'), a very cool set of flash movies of what happened in the real battle: http://www.wtj.com/articles/xray/

    Joint ammo and magazines (jam)

This is actually the image i used to create the front sight, so the front sight is realistic, the rear sight is a little more open than the real thing, but you have to remember it is a game, and with the LAW having such an open sight we have to at least make it relatively easy to use, we dont want people to have to spend weeks at an infantry training course just to target tanks with the thing.

Im sorry, but its just not true that all tracers are the same colour, its commonly known that NATO tracers give off a red colour while Soviet Bloc manufactured tracers give off a green colour. And if you dont like it, you can always turn off the tracers as STT said.

Did you ask permission to use the Nam Pack? As ive certainly not heard anything about it.

    New bas thread

Im not sure there is a need for a trainer in a combat simulation. It certainly doesnt warrant the extra mb to add it in. Theres no reason the normal MH-6 cant be used for 'training' missions.

Best armed forces in the world

Also the vote was not on quantity, but tactics and how the wars were handled, i dont think you'll find another country with as much military experience and accomplishments as the british military, including the US.

    Most used custom islands?

Erm, this isnt a place for people to say their favorite island, there are other threads for that, ST requested the most used island(s) in SP and MP missions.

    Joint ammo and magazines (jam)

I dont get the same problem, i just placed two HD squads 200m apart and once they'd spotted each other, they engaged each other (first the machinegunners, and then the rifleman after about 10 seconds).
  22. Eviscerator

    Joint ammo and magazines (jam)

Ok. I did some initial testing with the NAM pack and it works perfect. Â You said the next JAM will have more magazines, will it also include the legacy weapons in the NAM Pack? (i.e RPD, M14, etc) Â For now I can configure the script to replace only those weapons that are the same, and ignore the rest. Â I already have half the NVA Army coded. As JAM updates are released, I can just make changes as neccessary. It includes, at this moment, the Mosin Nagant, SKS, RPD, M79, M14, M16A1.

    Joint ammo and magazines (jam)

is it going to be soon??? i read at dig forum that d/r will be equipped with jam but not updated is this true? if it is hell yeah! It was true, however its not anymore, we decided not to release a 'quick fix' for the de/ra to upgrade them to jam, as the version 2 update would have come only a short while afterwards, and we didnt want to confuse people, as it is we are concentrating on finishing off other projects and getting the jam update out, so the de/ra has taken a back seat for a couple of weeks, its also the start of september so its the end of the holidays and team members will be very busy with real life for a while, we will still be working on projects, but you'll have to have a bit of patience in waiting for projects to be released.

    Joint ammo and magazines (jam)

    - Yes, HD is primarily for AI to use. - The recoil has been fixed for the update. - Every round a tracer is an OFP thing, cant be changed, its either all or nothing.
