    Yet Another Arma Benchmark

39.7 Intel 5960X @ 4.5Ghz 2x GTX 980 Strix 64GB 3000 RAM G. Skill Ripjaws 1920x1080 Graphical settings at max except the HDR stuff which I keep at low.

    Mouse Sensitivity

I used to get that all the time until I cranked my Windows mouse sensitivity to full and reduced mouse sensitivity in the game to minimum. Now I have nearly perfect aiming! Might not work for everyone though.

    Realist, Maybe, Balanced? You Decide.

Regarding the flight model, do you want a flight simulator or an army sim? A flight sim would take most of the CPU power and leave nothing for the rest of the game. In terms of present day technology, it's a reasonable trade-off. In 5 or 10 years, I believe there should be no reason not to have a fully implemented version of X-Plane riding inside an OFP-like game, but not today, it isn't going to happen.

    Atari & the truth..

Why is anyone surprised about this? It's not all that uncommon actually, a lot of game images are edited for advertising purposes and most of the time the boxes have doctored pics in them as well. It's annoying to say the least but I never really go by the pics anymore, I just read press releases and forums for the real scoop.

why don't infantry shoot at helicopters?

As I recall, my buddy who was infantry for a number of years told me that the sqads were trained to deal with incoming helo's by yelling "aircraft action!", firing randomly in the air at it and running for cover. I don't know if all armies handle it that way, but he said it was best to just grab cover and try to hide, firing in the air at it randomly I think was to keep the chopper moving so it hopefully wouldn't get a fix on them as they tried to escape.

    AI disaster + tanks

I would rather they prioritize, take the armor and then hit the infantry with rockets while the other soldiers suppress them. Everyone has a wish list I guess.

I'm mainly a Co-Op player and I have no complaints from that side of things. It's great for that and the computer puts up a good fight most of the time. Besides, I like being outnumbered and looking death in the face, it makes it more fun.

Excellent!! Armed Assault on a MAC PC

Not provocative, but mostly true. Same hardware and mostly the same software now. Well, kernel anyhow depending on what OS you choose. The only reason those computers still exist in the marketplace today is because Microsoft keeps them going with cash injections. Otherwise, if Apple folds, MS can be hit with monopoly lawsuits. Sad but true.

And why not have soldiers use RPG's against soldiers? It's realistic! Geist, I don't get what you mean by programming reaching it's limits? At the moment it's mainly hardware that's the problem. As for OOP and no conditionals, you will always have conditionals. And as you said, we need better hardware, and the only way to interface and use this hardware is with better software. There is no such thing as a general purpose AI on a chip, not gonna happen. Most likely it's going to be a specialized CPU and someone is going to have to code for it from the ground-up. So software still plays a monumental role in all of it. And as was pointed out, it is possible to create software that can emulate sentient life, we just can't do it yet.

I'm with you on that one nominesine! Like I said before, these are just test cases and don't actually happen in the game. Try the tests with the choppers flying around and a squad bearing down on you. Also, why just pick on this one case? If you want to get technical, this game is ABSOLUTELY unrealistic! How many foot soldiers can climb out of a truck and into a helicopter and take off? Or after running the length of the island, take out two squads with a rifle at the objective? Well, I know I can, but this isn't about me.

I know, I'm just playing devil's advocate here, sorry. It can be a little unrealistic at times but I find it hard to notice in pitched battles myself. I'm sure someone will make a mod or something to address these issues though, I want to see ECP ported over at some point but that's just a personal wish. Good on ya for running the engine through it's paces though!

That's the problem with controlled tests, they never mirror reality. Try this test: There's an enemy helo above you and a squad of guys attacking you. Try it then and see if it still works.

    Darn. Oh well, thanks!

Ah, good point, I never thought of that. They probably short circuit the AI and other "non-essential" services when teh CPU load gets to be too great. Time to upgrade people!

A couple of things. First, sniping a helicopter cockpit is not exactly easy, think of the air currents around it. It's probably next to impossible in real life. As for the realism of the game, you have two options: 1) absolute realism at the cost of not being able to actually play the game since no computer exists that can cover "realism" 2) play the current game and love it! Sure, there are a few problems and inconsistencies but it was that way with OFP for the first while until the patches sorted it out. And then the mod makers started turning out all kindsa great stuff like ECP and things got ever better. You can't have everything in a game, so just focus on the good points. Besides, probably almost no one here is qualified to say what truly "realistic" is anyhow. Anything can happen in real life.
