No, it's still there unless my memory is totally borked. I played JointCoops last weekend and had a rude surprise when I respawned back at base. I'd like to know how to disable it though. Hell, I'd like to know how to disable it in Domination too. Â Pixel, I used your advice on modifying the initial point allotment and it worked out great. I had a good, long mission with 4 AI mates though I still got jacked up at times. I'm also going to try some changes to your "recruit" script and see how things balance out. If it balances well, I can go ahead and lower the initial point allotment. Thanks!

Seany, thanks for passing this on. I didn't know you could use nHancer this way either. I use it to turn vsync off in Arma Now, I may be able to get my buddy back in the game. He's got a 7950GX2 and gets unplayable frame rates with it in ArmA. Does anything have to be changed in the Crysis profile in the SLI section?

You have to wonder just how many problems are related to sound. It's always blame the game, the video card, the graphics driver, etc., etc. But unless you get a BSOD pointing to a Creative .dll, it's rare that we point to the sound card/drivers. I've gotten a few hard locks in Arma over the past few months. It's always when I'm in third person view flying a Blackhawk. Though I do fly it A LOT as I'm always towing the MHQ all over the place. I have no idea why I get the lock-ups but I'm not ruling out my sound card.

I use a GTX 260 and have never experienced what you're referring to. I have everything set to Very High and View Distance set to about 3300. I am using WinXP Pro 32-bit though.

Um, we all just kinda assume that.

I doubt very much you'll find a server setting for this. It's my belief that the devs simply made this a user preference, where each client can do as they please with it. One good thing...you made me go back and play with it. I set the float to 1/4 and now I love it! Thanks! When I tried it a long time ago, I set it to 100% and thought it was sick.
-
I don't think you'll ever want to force anyone to use the floating zone. I turned that off on day one and would be pretty worthless at aiming due to the disorientation.

Bushlurker, I was able to get the airlift script working. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to "fix" the error. After reviewing the code for a while, I simply removed the line that was erroring out. I wasn't sure what condition the scripter was trying to prevent but I thought it might work without it and it seems to be. I understand the syntax but not the overall "intention". This IF clause I removed from winch.sqf is this: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">if((_nObject != _cargo) && (_actionadded == 1)) then{ _uh60 removeAction actioncargo; _actionadded = 0; }; I have only airlifted the MHQ (M113) with a Blackhawk and that is all. That's all I need. I don't know if problems would be encountered in other airlift scenarios or if the removal of that line could cause other problems. Of course, if someone could offer a real fix, that'd be great.

Isn't the only (and latest) official version of Evo the v2 version from Kiljoy that you can d/l at Armaholic? Isn't every other version an unofficial (or even unauthorized?) custom version? I only play the v3 MHQ Unranked version because I play solo and REALLY need an MHQ and an unranked version. I seem to have sorta, kinda fixed the script to airlift the MHQ but I'll refer to that in the other Evo thread. I've played all the "super-missions" (Evo, Dom, etc). and I've come back to Evo as my favorite in terms of playability for me.

upgraded from E6600 to Q9550. Massive improvement

Considering the current state of artificial intelligence, IMHO, getting the AI to be smarter (interpret their environment and making good decisions based on that) is still a much larger problem than programming in stupidity. That's pretty much what I meant. Ideally, you could scale the bots' intelligence with a slider. But we're a long way off from having bots smarter than even noob-humans. There are ways to make the bots omniscient but those would be cheap cheats the devs could implement. The goal is to have heuristic-style bots that can behave, react and make decisions just at humans would. But yeah, there'd have to be some randomness to reflect poor decisions. I don't want to influence your final decision but one point to keep in mind is that by the time the majority of games use 4 cores, your "current" rig will probably be a fond memory. Regarding my comment about the survival of the genre...I went through the Tom Clancy debacle so I'm a little wary about just much of a niche this type of gaming is...whatever you want to call it...serious gaming? Tactical gaming? Deep down, I can't see it going away. Having played ArmA for several months now, I look back at some of the games I've spent hours playing and I just have to shake my head. Â Um, what was the original post about? -

I used both of those parts (E2180 and a 8800GTS 512) and definitely have to agree with you. I have read that increased cpu cache actually benefits gaming and the E21xx series of Intel cpus is starving for that with only 1MB. I would think you'd do better with an E8500 - in ArmA at least - especially if you're not against *ahem* "tweaking" the clock speed. If I was to go with a quad, it would be a 9xx0 but like you said - man are they expensive! Well, ArmA is pretty unique with the boatloads of AI soldiers involved. Contrast it with, for example, Bioshock or Stalker. They are much more concerned with the "look" rather than the intelligence of all the AI characters. If this genre survives - and I think it will - we may find that even more of a heavy load will be placed on the cpu. The ultimate goal of AI game characters is to have them as smart (or smarter) than human players. -
I play this mission as solo co-op a lot and had a question about towing the MHQ via Blackhawk. When I hover over the M113 (MHQ), I get the following error. That leads me to believe that towing the MHQ is available but might be broken...or...maybe I'm doing something wrong...or missing an addon? I've made some simple edits to make this mission easier to play alone. It would be a huge help if I could tow the MHQ around like in Domination. Is this possible?

Absolutely true and I was about to post that. For some people 30fps is borderline nauseating. Of course, that depends on the game you're playing too. I've found that a "decent" frame rate is very important in ArmA because of all the motion and all the real estate that you're scanning for Opfor. I record many of my gaming sessions in Fraps for movie making/editing later and when I turn it on, frames drop to 30 fps. Trust me, it's easy to tell the difference between 30 fps and much higher frame rates. The OP's problem definitely sounds like "vsync". He'll get 60 in all places where his card can do better than 60 and...I guess...30 when his card can't do 60. I forget the specifics but it isn't it true that you CAN'T turn off vsync with Nvidia in games that don't have a vsync option unless you use nHancer? That's what I was "told" and found it to be true. I use nHancer in those situations and it works great. If his vsync is truly OFF, he should be able to get >60fps when looking straight up. If not, I would suspect that vsync is still on. And don't worry about your LCD's 60hz refresh rate - it's an LCD not a CRT.
-
Sorry to burst your bubble but I've used an 8 series card with 17x.xx Nvidia drivers and never had a crash or flickering. As a matter of fact I've never had any problem with ArmA.

Xeno, I have a simple question. I'm playing the West AI version. I've cleared the "primary mission" city and at one point I completed a side mission of destroying a convoy. Neither time did I get a "mission complete" message. Does your mission give one? I also didn't know how to get a new side mission. I think one eventually occurred after a set period of time. can you clarify this for me?
-
Thanks for the explanation. How can you tell how many points you have? I have not been able to figure that out in anyone's mission - not just yours. Thanks! At first, I had the same thought as IceBreaker but yeah, I like the fact that you're not using addons - a lot.
-
Pixel, thanks for the great mission. I found a couple of things while playing it. I would get a bug whereby I went to recruit (spawn) an AI player and I would get erroneous messages like: 1. "You need to be a Sargeant to recruit AI and you are only a Sargeant." OR 2. "You need to be a Sargeant to recruit AI and you are only a Colonel." I understand it when I was unable to spawn AI mates when I was only a Corporal but I think the above messages indicate a bug. When I got message 1 above, I was indeed a Sargeant but I could not spawn AI mates. Something else...the one time I was able to recruit an AI mate, I spawned him at the base. When I was at the "mission zone", I tried to get him to parachute to me by hitting F2 and then selecting paradrop. Instead of him parachuting down, I was the one parachuting! So far that's what I've found. I think your mission could prove a great alternative for me to Evo, Domination, Sabotage and the other "super-missions" I play. The only thing I might find to make me not play it is that I may end up having to lone-wolf it too much of the time. I think I'd prefer some system whereby AI recruits are limited in number or limited to a certain number per time period or limit it to two recruits when you're a Corporal and 5 when you're a Sargeant and 8-9 as a Colonel and no recruits as a Private. The time it took me to get to be a Sargeant was not that fun as I kept getting my butt handed to me because I was alone. Even if I had just 2 AI mates at my side it would have been more enjoyable. But I understand that this involves a fairly major design decision. I just wanted to give you my feedback as someone who played the mission alone.

Can you make and post a short movie showing the problem cause I don't know what you're referring to? I have the float zone turned off completely. I've always wondered if I used it - and got used to it - if it would actually improve my game...???
-
Huh???Of the two cards you mentioned, definitely go with the HD4870 1GB. And yeah, it's worth the extra money.

Thanks for the "recruit AA soldier" code snippet - WOOHOO! Â

Can someone tell me how to set up a toggle on crouch and stand up? I've got a friend whose got a Nostromo and would like that but I've already told him it's not possible. Sounds to me like everyone has their own favorite keyboard setup. I go with all defaults and have no problems but I'm familiar with Z-X-C from Ghost Recon. I'm getting a "real" gaming mouse from Santa and may assign the two little buttons on the left to 1st/3rd person.

I went back into 3.09 West AI and all is good. Guess it just takes some time to get oriented...especially when you're playing Evo, Domination and Sabotage at the same time. The only thing I noticed was that my first recruit "calls out" an unknown tank and truck when he spawns but no biggie. Looking forward to playing this excellent mission.
-
Yeah, I was trying to avoid that. I've done that in other missions and getting the AI to cooperate is sometimes a nightmare. It'd be easier if I could just pick 'AA Soldier'. I'm getting beaten up pretty badly by KA-50s at the mission zone. Could it be that the setting of how RACS treats Blufor is set wrong? I did try the 3.09 AI version but didn't see it in the game or on the map. I saw both in 2.22. I will look again. I didn't find any ammocrates at the airbase but I will look again. That's kinda funny. Can you dismiss your men even if you're not at the Recruitment hut? Xeno, did you make any changes to fatigue levels? After running, my character seems like he's a lot more "drunk" than usual.

I just started playing Domination Single Team AI v2.22 and was hoping I could get some questions answered. My recruits are "calling out" vehicles at the base as being "hostile". The vehicles are most likely Blufor and not RACS. When I put my AI team in one of the Blackhawks, the gunner literally empties the mini-gun into the neighboring choppers. What can I do to prevent this? I tried putting the whole team on "hold fire" but it did not stop the firing. What's the difference between the 3.09 West AI version and the version I mentioned above? I started off with the 3.09 version and could not find a recruitment hut so I started playing the 2.22 version. If I go to edit Domination, do I need to track down some content? I could not edit Evolution due to a deleted content error. I want to add an ammocrate to always be at the base and I'd like the ability to recruit an AA soldier - if I can. Awesome mission! I look forward to playing it A LOT!!!
