  3. I probably should have qualified my position by explaining that I tend to evaluate everything in terms of player-vs-player scenarios. The balance I speak of isn't really an issue in Human-vs-AI games.
  4. At the risk of labouring my point, I'm all for more-realistic personally (and if that means harder that's even better) but I am yet more concerned about the consistency of the simulated battlefield. How do you deal with the disparity in difficulty when setting up a UK vs RU encounter for instance? In spite of the way people are voting here I think in practice you'd hear "don't use the Huey, it has an overly-simplistic flight model" less often than "don't use the Puma, it flies like a dog". Without knowing how much more work is entailed (could the values for 'easy' be derived from 'hard' or vice versa?), both versions would serve all uses.

Aside from representing a well-informed opinion (pilots & aircrew), I (as a gamer) would ask, what is the point of introducing new assets that are not consistent with (and therefore do not stand alongside) those already in-game? That is unless you intend to modify the flight model for all of the defaults as well.

  7. ROFL. I think Alex already knows there's another PLA mod and I suspect it won't be all that surprising to him that "the people in charge are actually chinese" :). Plenty of room for both mods, in fact as luck would have it, both are of high quality and appear quite complimentary in terms of the units realised thus far.
  8. Get to know the vanilla game before worrying about mods. If you're anything like me it'll take you a week to get all the controls bound to your liking.

    It will benefit from the same improvements that are made to ArmA 2's executable and, as has been officially announced, will incorporate specific features brought across from VBS2. To suggest that these enhancements might signal a simultaneous jump by two DirectX versions is naive. I guess time will tell.

    Seems like every time I see a post about Arrowhead more and more new features are attributed to it with little or none of it more than wishful thinking AFAIK. I predict there will be tears when these expectations (which somehow seem to grow in the telling) are not met. It has been explained ad-museum that the 'engine team' is still patching ArmA 2 and that Arrowhead is an opportunity to gainfully employ the content developers.

    Monsters, zombies and so on

    I tried a few zombie mods in ArmA 1 and 28 Days Later zombies are much more intimidating when it comes to setting up tension and fear. Thanks heavens we now have an open thread to direct the repeated zombie enquires towards. Shame it's so hard to do, a real loss but I live in hope of the Terminator mod.

    Force map screen ?

    IIRC "forceMap false" removes it but the map displayed in this fashion isn't all that useful, I seem to recall you cannot manipulate (zoom/pan/click) it.
  15. I haven't tried it yet but you are to be congratulated, mission-makers need more of this type of functionality deliverable with the mission files. You can do a little more with an add-on but you can reach many more players more easily with scripts.
  16. Erm... there are two types of blur; this type and the type that blurs the whole screen.
  17. And real ultra-stutter brought about by rendering two 3D ArmA scenes at once. Just knocked up a script to apply radial blur when scoped and it looks like it's not going to be a runner: 1. This PP effect doesn't work at all when Post Process Effects are disabled in video options (where DynamicBlur, ColorCorrection and probably others still do). So when BIS provided this option to remove motion blur they just disabled this one effect globally. 2. The non-blurred area at centre is square and it doesn't scale with your FOV.

    Bad things about Arma2

    Has the OP invested anything? Rented a server? Made a mod? Worked out how to turn his own crosshair off even? No. He'd just rather engage in uninformed whinging to the effect that it is up to BIS to force everybody to play as he would wish, what sort of reaction should he get?
