  1. Agreed, I really want to hear about xbox live and this game... In theory, it could be a match made in heaven. So, if anyone can, please give a heads up on this feature wink_o.gif

  2. Quote[/b] ]Placebo- You're welcome to search his posts over the last couple of months to see where I'm coming from.

Making your opinion known once or twice on similar issues is fine, repeatedly beating the forum with your opinion of sorrow and woe and angst is not fine.

Quote[/b] ]schmerzbringer-Yes yes but I think: Why not?

Maybe it´s his way to tell us that he is waiting for Arma as hard as we do.

Not everyone can write his opinion in so a "polite" way as you do or most of us.

But he is joining us, and he spends his time in this forum, so he is a great BIS-Fan too, of course.

I think what he is trying to say, shmerz, is that sharing your opinions are one thing, constant negativity and a lack of constructive comments are another.  Placebo isn't trying to run a dictatorship, nor is he censoring anybody. It's his job. Duh

Well I can see where some of nx-illusion's comments are coming from (I too am anxious about the whole damn dilemma), some of his comments were plain-and-simply rash and not well thought-out. BIS is a very small company in comparison to others. It was/is working on 3+ games at once. Not to mention publisher woes which would most defintely interfere with development. Think twice before playing the "bitch card." It makes you look like a n00b.

Now I ain't a "mindless fanboy". I just have common sense. And yes, I know you are all anxious about ArAs, but good things come to those who wait. (Yes, I know, that's been said a lot too.) Suck it up. Sit up straight. Grow some balls (or ovaries, you ladies) and calm down.

Information WILL be released when it's READY to be released...

  3. Spring 2006 for OFP2? As in codemaster's release or NextGen Game? Because there sure as hell ain't anyway nextgen is gonna be released until at LEAST late next year. However, I totally agree with your guess on ArAs in Q1 2k6... but I still think that they could do a (still) strong release @ around christmas because the game looks quite complete already....

Although since we do not know who the publisher is (or even if they have chosen one), we cannot make any real firm predictions, nor do I think we should. Just keep checking up on the forums and wait for news. No point begging the zookeeper, as a previous anology stated - he ain't gonna open it until it's time to be free nener.gif

  4. Quote[/b] ]...Sure, you can slam on the accelerator in a jeep and make it fly really fast across the countryside, but try to take a turn at that speed and you'll flip it right over...

Really now? Sarcasm or truth? If that is a true statement, this could be the new improved physics BIS spoke of... *ponder*  confused_o.gif   banghead.gif

EDIT: This was an excerpt from the preview @ IGN. Preview @ IGN

My opinion on the graphics.. I don't give a damn about improved graphics, I care about improved gameplay. Gameplay was always good in OFP and they seemd to have worked out MANY of the remaining quirks (framerate, ai, physics, coll detection) with elite so I am not complaining... But that's what I've been saying all along, heh nener.gif

  5. Wasted time publishing vs over development (not enough sharing of information) is a hard thing to balance, but I would say it is difficult to release information on a large scale (I doubt they would give just a little piece just to us, and not to all the major gaming news sites such as gamespot, gamespy, 3dgamers, etc., etc.) without a proper publisher. While I sure as hell would like some more information (duh) I doubt we will get it until they have a publisher decided and in place solidly.

As placebo would say, "wait. Information will be shared when the time comes."

    Caz

P.S. Although, it probably would not be a bunch of effort to just make an ingame movie or something. Oh, and btw, I didn't know one thing about OFP until I stumbled into Target one day and said "OH! That looks interesting..." and look where I am at, 4 years later. That speaks for itself. Hype != good game. If you advertise poo, it's still poo. (But damn! Information would be nice! GRR! lol)

  6. Here is a tip...

While in group mode, drag a line from a west troop to a res troop (of higher rank. The res troop has to be higher in rank to be considered the leader of the group). Then make the "probability of presence" for the res troop 0%. This makes him disappear as soon as the mission is launched, yet makes all the people under his command on his side.

    Enjoy!

    .....

hold fire=green=return fire only if fired upon

hold fire, engage at will=white=return fire only if fired upon - but what the heck does the engage at will part do?

    ....

Hold fire means they don't fire at all but engage at will + hold fire means that they will only fire if fired upon. I just tried this out in game and seems to be the case. Also though I notice behaviour has an affect on them as well. In danger, they will back in hold-fire mode if the enemy is really close (close as in your grandma could pop em'wink_o.gif. On the contrary, if they were in stealth and if you put them in hold + engage at will they will move into a better position to avoid fire, lower ability to be seen, and also get in a better firing position but never will actually fire until you give them the command to do so.

Crazy how many combinations there are...  notworthy.gif BiS

    EDIT:

Quote[/b] ]The strange thing is that you're the first person (forgive me if I missed a post) that has mentioned a pitch issue, everyone else seems to be having volume issues... I'll pass an ammended UKF_weapons.pbo to one of our forum regulars who has the volume issue and see it if fixes things for him.

    - Well that could be because they just misinterpreted what the real issue was, so instead of saying it was a pitch problem, they would say it was a volume (which when in "slo-mo", it does sound much lower in volume too). Glad you got it all worked out smile_o.gif

  10. Well of course, I realized that. It's not abnormal, but something is obviously not right, because I know that you guys would not want your sfx to sound like they did, so I edited them and it came out fine. I am not sure what it is... but since it's not consistent across all users of the addon, it isn't an issue with the addon itself. I think that older OS's (before win XP) drivers mixed with wss files, mixed with a bunch of other factors is causing the issue.

    My two cents

    Cat

  11. Well I noticed the sounds for the guns are from a different addon, but the sounds for the warrior alone (the engine and doors) are in its own pbo. Also, I tried changing the wss files for the guns to ogg and wav, and all that happened is that they got really really quiet but were the correct pitch huh.gif Not quite sure how to fix it for other people's cases because I don't have any more problems...

  12. Well I looked into the ukf_weapon.pbo because I was having the sound issue too...

Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS /w Windows 2000

It sounded like all my sounds were playing in slo-motion or had been lowered in pitch too much. I looked at the sounds and they are in wss, which I've had issues with before. All I needed to do was just raise the pitch of the sounds that were at 0 (not many were... Only the milan, 30mm, and 7.62mm. These were the only ones were giving me problems though). Once I put them all at 1, the sounds were perfectly fine... exactly the same as the base sounds were.

Fixed. So anyone else who is having "slo-mo" sounding sounds, this is what I recommend they do to fix the problem. And sorry if I offended PUKF with having to edit their config... I won't release it or anything confused_o.gif

    Great release, though!

  13. Unfortunally the level of mature discussion is dropping exponentially as AA comes closer and closer.

Yes, this is true, yet people still forget that the game is still WiP... Perhaps we could possibly begin planning for possible mod and mission ideas now so we can be quick on the draw when the game is released?

Unless of course you people want to just sit here and bitch about every damn little thing. But I won't name names...

    ---------------------

On the topic - I think the game will pwn and will defintely hold me off until 'OFP2', and I think that we don't have to worry about either one of these "sukking". It's giving everything that I wanted for the original flashpoint and hell they even threw in better graphics (all I really wanted was improved MP and engine capabilities)

It really comes down to it, if you want to buy it, do so, if you don't then don't, but don't expect everyone to support you when you come on the company boards and just whine like children.

That is all I got to say about that,

    Cat

  14. Yea them ways of communication were cool but i wonder if ArmA will maybe include the actual voice of players who have Microphones...bit like xbox live dus with halo 2, tht wud be sweet. But if they do they shud keep the channel options EG if u use side channel to speak to people on your side, they are the only ones who will be able to hear you so enemies dnt! wot u guys rekn?

Perfect imo. Built in VoIP would pwn to the max. Would be better for system performance and would just feel a lot cleaner imo.. not to mention would save us money because we wouldn't have to worry about the seperate cost of a TS server....

    wink_o.gifwink_o.gifwink_o.gif @ bis...

  15. I wonder how many people forget how easy it is to mod ofp1... and probably how it won't change much to mod for the next game. Don't you guys realize we can just change what we don't like? I mean come on...

There is an old m16 model there, boo hoo. Lets fire up one of our current m16 models we got (we have many) and replace it. You all know as well as I do it ain't too damn hard to do these kind of things.

And besides, the game is still many months away from release and this is BiS we are talking about for crying out loud! They don't leave us hangin'

So many people are quick on the bashing... If you wan't the game to be so perfect, then just mod it when it comes out! (or just go play a dumbed-down game like BF2. Sure you won't find anything innovative, but hell, at least you got pretty graphics icon_rolleyes.gif )

    - Cat

    EDIT: Spelling errors...

  16. Quote[/b] ]But anyway its like we are buying OFP update.... Like in VBS1.

With only new water, grass, Ai, 1 island, shadows, lightning and realistic bullet rates.

Do we really need anything else? With the upgraded engine, we will have many many things to work with as an editing community, and this game gives SO much more a stronger foundation then arcadey P.o.S like BF and JOPS.

OFP1 offers more to the player then BF2, HL2, and Doom 3 do today, 4 years later. This is just a improvement on the things the game lacked from before, and since i still play OFP every single day (when I don't have school to contend with), I know that Armed Assault will be a welcome addition to my game collection.

The only problems OFP1 had, imo, were aesthetically. The sounds were tacky, and had no real dynamic sound to speak of. The graphics are dated with their low resolution textures, low polygon models and lack of lighting. Most, if not all, of these issues will be fixed with ArAs so then, imo, we will have a perfect game. wink_o.gif

Anyway, I got to make myself a sandwich....

    Take Care,

    Cat

  17. They could look quite low res for a couple reasons -

    A) It's a jpeg (EWWWW!!!!wink_o.gif

    B) It's still in development

    C) It's early and I can't come up with anymore...

    ...

Anyway, I think they all look pretty good, ESPECIALLY the one with the rolling hills and the indoor one. The indoor textures are MUCH higher and everything with dynamic lighting just looks splendid. The terrain no longer has that "flat" look because of the hills producing shadow and stuff. Good work! They just got to keep truckin' along and spruce everything up before release... which is not until the end of the year anyway.

  18. OMG! Wow! I can't believe I forgot about JiP... that truly will change a whole bunch of things in the game... such as dynamic mp campaigns, never-ending rpg-esque games, among many other things. However, JiP for a coop game would be difficult, but I know we will find one way or another to work it out (we always seem to wink_o.gif )

  19. many good points, but BiS crew on 20+ ppl? Cant be compared to what a dedicated OFP:R Community with 5000+ people could do. I already said that MOD Makers, Mission Makers are already doing their part, but theres only a few people who put this things together and make them work. People need help to know what maps are good and what addons to use. They need a server and a forum or else their instrest will fall.

I wouldnt be bad if BiS had official Servers running and more official addons released in their patches. Even they had more of their own missions. But like I said, they are only 20+ and were 5000+.

    ....

Wow. My point exactly! If we had official servers... OMG! PWNAGE! lol. That would be a great thing to have, but right now we just do not have a great way of getting all the info to all the people... I hope that we can have a definitive ArAs website that tells of all the clans, tournaments, missions, and addons so that everyone will be up to date on everything. Ofp.cz is the closest thing we got to that right now, IMO...

But I still think we gotta wait a little bit for more info on the game to be released before we can get such a massive undertaking underway....

    Cat

  20. IMHO, I think ArAs will be a clean slate and everything. We will be able to start over on the playerbase because of the new title but have a fresher start with the better netcode and the many, many other fixes. And I know I will create missions like crazy when its released! That is all I do right now for OFP1, except they are all personal sp missions (again because the MP community for FP1 blows)

I believe we will have a second shot with the next game, but will also have all the knowledge about the engine as we do now such as with modding and such. We sure will be able to lay out a great foundation for the game at launch...

    Cat

EDIT: Oh, and yeah we will need to have a more organized method of addon making, such as armor/balistic values, texture quality, polygons, etc. Uniformity and consistency will make the community much more effecient and effective. Same goes for missions... a much more active and diverse mission community will particularly affect the likelihood of the games' success!

  21. Quote[/b] ]But thats the error...

Games like half-life2 had communities 5 years prior release....

    bad PR...

Uhh...... but I imagine hl2 had a publisher, even at that stage of the game, and not to mention a much higher player base from the previous title.

It is not easy, nor realistic, to get a substantial amount of publicity before the game has a publisher. That is what a publisher does in the first place! DURH!

    Cat

EDIT: And without publicity, we don't have content to share as the customers and "fanbois." We have no choice at all, like I said before, then to just wait for more information and content to be released about Armed Assault. As soon as we have more screens, and maybe some videos (or even a demo), we will be able to then share with the gaming crowd en masse. For right now, I think we should just tell all of our friends about the game about how fricken awesome we think its gonna be.... that's what I've done  wink_o.gif

EDIT 2: If you really feel the need to feed them fires of product advertisement, then I say we should get someone of the community to put a fansite for the game. Then get it around to a bunch of people. If its well done, people will want to come back to read up on the news, and when the game is released, download addons and such.

No, I'm not offering myself for the job, nener.gif

  22. Imo, its still kind of early to start on an Armed Assault community as so little information has been released. When we really can get a list of the features avaliable we can start planning out our mods and everything... but I feel we just do not have enough info to start basing around the hype.

    Just gotta be patient....

EDIT: And besides, without any real news on a publisher, that makes it incredibly difficult to get things like videos, websites, and such. I mean the developers are too busy working on the game itself to get heavily involved in those things, lol.
