    First ARMA impressions

Have you even tried the game ? Stop dramatising, its not that bugged. Watch that 700+ mb video review to see the work BIS have made, graphics, colision detection, bullet penetration and ricochet, water, animation, destruction, list goes on... its fantastic. Dont like? Dont want? Then nobody will force you to buy it . Well now that you come to mention it heatseeker, if you had asked me 5 hours ago I would say I hadn't played the game but I know people who have, but now I can say I've played the game and I know what I'm talking about.... Who says I don't want the game? I think you misunderstand me. It is because I love the original OFP so that I hate seeing the same mistakes appear again. Targetting issues, draw distance, LOD issues (shoot an M136 at a bridge and see what I mean) ... sound familiar??? Imagine if I said to my boss, hey boss, here's my app, don't worry its shit right now, I didn't bother testing it, but you can still pay me my months wages eh? It'll be OK in 5 months... He'd have my ass out the door so fast there'd be motion blur.... YOU may have 5 years to wait for a 1.96 quality system old chap, I do not. I demand reasonable quality for my cash and I want it by May. Then I recommend you and everyone else with the game to report bugs like crazy. However, bug reporting != complaining. Â I am not flaming you. Don't get me wrong. I just want to ward off people from dabbling in the arts of needless anger. If you truly want to see this game progress and actually meet your desires by May, you will have to contribute to the effort. - dRb I'm not taking anything as flaming Dr. Not at all... Let me clarify, if the bug was so esoteric that normal testing would not pick it up, I would let that pass. I know how difficult it is to write solid code. Nothing and I mean nothing is ever bug-free. But when you see bugs scream at ya like "shoot the bridge with an M136 and the rails don't explode" or the "AI knows where you are even when behind a tree" or even the "my team will stay in the jeep while I defend this position myself" then you have to wonder. Ahh. Correct of course. It is quite disappointing to see that such an obvious bug was overlooked. I completely agree. But I simply just don't want to see this thread or ANY thread to turn into a complete whine fest. I am not saying you were/are. I am commenting here as this is the "First ARMA Impressions" thread. Thoughts like those, especially negative ones have tended to breed rapidly here. So please, everyone, calm down and send in bug reports. I am a programmer as well and have worked on many projects throughout the past few years. I know for a fact that it is MUCH easier on my fingers, mind, and heart when people try to leave their emotions out of their "reports." But you know all of this and I know how frustrating it can all get. I have a lot of faith in BIS, perhaps too much, that they'll fix all of the glitches and bugs in due time. - dRB

And some logic you have, how do you expect the bugs to be fixed if nobody tests the game? You're still entitled to the fixed version for free (via patching) if you've payed for the buggy one, so like I said it makes no difference. If anything you'd be doing a great service to BIS and everyone else who buys ArmA from then on. Kyle, thats what you have a TEST TEAM in-house for. Â To test the game. You know, paid employees that do it 8 hours a day, 5 days a week? Professional testers who record defects using a system like say Test track pro? Not just some 14 year old kids who write in "oh wowz these graphics are pants d00d!" You cannot just expect the public to sit and report bugs all day, thats just abusing your fanbase IMHO. If ArmA had competition, which is does not AFAIK, you can bet your ass the competition would seize this opportunity to get ahead sales & quality wise. Like I said, you can give me Å30, I'll give you shite at the moment, and release something amazing 5 months later. At least the nice thing is you won't have to pay Å30 again those five months later! - dRb

To the people who are playing ArmA, how is it?

Not at all... Too bad... I hoped there would be any possibility for some swordfighting And there wouldn't be with mods? The new animation system is a god-send to what we had before. We have every opportunity now to really make whatever we wish... once the bugs are fixed and the modding tools are released! - dRb

    Armed Assault FAQ

Oh. Right. The bugs are simply planned on being left unfixed. It's a most genius plan! [/sarcasm] But no, really. By the time the American release rolls around, I would defintely bet on at least one major patch fixing a great deal of the bugs currently present in the game. - dRB

Hmm. I would guess that 1024x768 @ medium could be in the right ballpark. - dRb

    ARMA DISSAPOINTMENT

It's up to BIS to determine what direction they wish to partake in. Do they want to appeal to arcade-style, run-and-gun gameplay ala CTF, DM, TDM, and such? Or do they prefer to focus more on the coop community and sheer realism? Of course a balance is preferred, but as with any case of attempted balance, there will be those that whine, bitch, and complain about not getting it their way. Someone, somewhere along the road, has to eventually suck it up and accept it for what it is, or the feuding will never, ever end. My two deci-units of sahrani currency, - dRb

To the people who are playing ArmA, how is it?

The editor's purpose is to edit missions. It looks perfectly fine to me. And yes, I spend hours a day in that screen so don't pull the "oh yeah? How long are you actually IN the editor" bs line... However, I completely agree with the grass. While I do believe it looks great, its practicality is quite silly. - dRb

    Confirmed release dates and countries.

Talking about beating a dead horse! Are we resorting the vandalizing of tombstones now? If they're was any solid news about possible American publishers, it would have been stated and confirmed within this thread. That is not the case. However, to rouse any bit of hope that may be within you, 505 Gamestreet has previously stated that they are discussing possible distribution rights within the United States. They're so many modifiers in that sentence that it doesn't take a genius to do the math - don't believe anything ANYONE says until it's written down in blood. - dRb

To the people who are playing ArmA, how is it?

I possess the AMD 4000+ single core chip, the equivalent to the FX-53 and it works perfectly fine with any modern game and never have any lag at all. But yes, the 7600 is a weak video card and will have some difficulty handling the higher end visuals of ArmA. I would completely agree that you'd be able to get your graphics at around medium settings @ 1024x768 resolution. This is, of course, assuming your computer is clean of any viruses, spyware, poor drivers, and other miscellaneous garbage. - dRb

Do older OFP addons work in arma?

Pardon my French but, WTF? Â Â The quality of many recent OFP addons released looks more than adequate for ArmA .... Only if upgraded to take into account the new lighting and shader system(s). Of course, this is only my opinion. - dRb

    Armed Assault videos

Jeeze Bravo 6! Cut down on the coffee! :P They (BIS) have already said countless times that they will continue to improve upon the game in the form of additional patches. This includes such things as wildlife and making the harrier VTOL capable.... - dRb

I am 99.99% sure that Sweden was on the list of games covered by 505 Gamestreet.... Someone please correct me if I am wrong! - dRb

    Gore

The reason why a lot of folks are so hostile about talks of gore is that it's been said many, many times now that the only real reason gore would be implemented is to satisfy the needs of masochistic crazy folk. Don't take it as a flame because that's not what I am trying to do here. I am just trying to save you from potential flaming in the future. - dRb

    ArmA Progress Updates

It's of course up to personal preference but I just feel like everyone in OFP sounds like American cowboys. Â I picture some guy to just scream, "YEEHAW! Let's kill us some commies!" Â However, I can also see the "teen-ish-ness" in ArmA's radio chatter that everyone else is speaking of. No matter though as we don't purchase the game just to listen to radio chatter! - dRb

    ArmA Progress Updates

ok so now we have got our modders the very first mission: to bring back the good old OFP voice ASAP (for our ears sakes) Speak for yourself! The new voices speak much faster and don't have the odd, poorly accented sound of OFP. I also like the beeping sound. While it may not be the "perfect" solution we've all hoped for, it is, imo again, a big step up from the voices in OFP. - dRb P.S. It is defintably going to be moddable again, so I guess everyone could have their preferences as long as the names of the voices in the .bin were not changed

Who will Host ArmA Dedicated Servers

Intel Combat Marines [iCM] will be hosting a public dedicated server in the United States. When is a different matter altogether. More than likely, the server will be put up when the UK version is released and we can all get our copies imported from them. The server will host mostly co-op maps but perhaps the occasional deathmatch or ctf. - dRb

    1944 game

Now now... no need to get arrogant you BISinites. While I agree ArmA will be great, we can't simply say that "nothing will rival it." However, this is in the wrong forum so that will probably lead to a move and perhaps a lock, depending on what kind of day Placebo has had... - dRb

    Arma around the world

It isn't really a delay if they haven't even got a United States publisher.... But I would not really count on them getting one AND getting the game released around the same time. Your safest bet would be to import a UK copy when it's released there. - dRb

    Arma around the world

California, United States. I will probably be importing a Czech copy, praying for a stringtable.csv conversion from the community (which I love btw :P ) and then purchase a true english version in February.... We'll see, - dRb

    Faces / Uniforms

I don't think it's any different than OFP, the top box being the face texture and the second box being the voice your character uses. - dRb

    ArmA Progress Updates

I refuse to believe that is the case until I get official from BIS that it's true. That's how I've always been with this website, and that is this the way it's going to stay. Stirring up the rumor mill is just a sure-fire way to stir up controversy as well.... - dRb

    Character switching

They've already said countless times that if you don't like it, don't use it. There is no option to disable it. You also should've made your post in one of the many other countless complaint threads, addressing this exact same issue...... - dRb

    Latest screenshots available

What I like about those screens is that ArmA will have the potential to look like that too, once the mods start coming out. I haven't much care at all for VBS2 itself, but since it and ArmA share the same engine, this means that just about everything you see in VBS2 is at least possible to implement in ArmA.... for the most part.... - dRB
