    Armed Assault videos

ShackTac had its first MP ArmA session on Saturday, and this is some footage from it. This particular mission involved ~40 human players, organized into three squads, fighting against ~250 AI opfor utilizing various enhanced AI group behavior scripts. It was a hell of a lot of fun. Short Sample Clip High-Quality Downloadable Version Low-Quality Google Video Version The footage starts about 15 seconds after I took this screen: It was somewhat rough as a first session (had crashing issues, for one), but aside from the issues that were out of our control, it was pretty neat. I'm really looking forward to seeing what things are like in a few months once everything has had a chance to settle, and especially once ACE and CoC's stuff starts getting released.

    1.08>   fastropes

It's the inside box cover cover-art. It's the old FFAR UH-60 render, without a pilot, and there are troops fastroping.

    1.08>   fastropes

I think it's worth mentioning that the Atari boxed version of the game has a UH-60 (FFAR) with fastropes deployed and soldiers roping down. I'm not saying it's supposed to be in the game. We know it isn't. I am, however, saying that Atari didn't have any issues with throwing in a bit of false advertising. The other gems are the three old-as-hell screens used on the back cover...

ArmA Photography I - No images over 100kb.

Full Resolution Full Resolution Full Resolution A few shots from our multiplayer yesterday. The first shot is a platoon-level coop, you're seeing my squad (Charlie) coming up on the Bravo squad's position (you can see an MG team of theirs on top of the dirt pile, and other Bravo soldiers are near the houses) right before we pass behind them on the road. Second shot is dismounts clearing a town while armor provides overwatch. Third shot is our Platoon Commander taking cover while directing the squads to maneuver against the enemy to our front. All in all, aside from the crashing , it was pretty fun. I'm looking forward to the future of ArmA (especially the "stability" side of things).

    Question from an aspiring moviemaker!

You can either shake it real time by randomizing the camera's position some through scripting, or it can be done post-processing. Sony Vegas for instance will let you shake a video by cropping a bit the edges off (maybe 5-20 pixels on each axis), and then shaking the picture in and out of the cropped off pixels. You lose a small bit of the image but it's usually nothing to worry about, and the benefits are great as it's much easier to control the strength of the shake. Or you can just do it the simple way and shake your mouse.

    Advanced Combat Element

There was one typo in the guide (which was just corrected) where it was called "Element". The main section title is clearly "Advanced Combat Environment". The mod's name is "Advanced Combat Environment". @Exsosus - I don't understand how you managed to get so worked up over this. Common sense, as applied by others in the thread, shows what the truth of the matter is. There was a typo, and since you went off of said typo instead of any of the other references to the mod in the guide, the topic of this post is now incorrect. I don't care if you change it or start a new one or whatever, I just came here to correct the mistake.

The mod's title is not "Advanced Combat Element", it's "Advanced Combat Environment".

    ArmA, VBS2 and tracers

Posting about VBS2 in here is a lost cause to begin with, and getting angry that the VBS2 tracers aren't in ArmA is just silly. You're not going to change any important people's minds with posts like this. My advice is to simply deal with it for now. The future may hold changes, but the present situation is very clear and I doubt anything is going to happen anytime soon with regards to official tracer changes.

    1.07 Dedicated Server Trouble

I believe this issue is specific to the US downloadable version. I've already tried what you suggested and it has no effect.

    1.07 Dedicated Server Trouble

I am having the same error on the ShackTac server. We were looking at a 60+ player turnout this weekend for our first ArmA session. We will have a small fraction of that due to being forced to use 1.06 (which a large chunk of our playerbase simply does not have) or 1.05 (same story, except in reverse). To say that I am a bit pissed off is a massive understatement.
  11. I guess you know something about Game2 that we don't, hmn? Show me a release date. Show me a shred of recent information about it. Show me ANYTHING that makes you think it will be out anytime soon. You're assuming too much with too little knowledge.

I think it was a mistake to even mention Game2..

    Hardware in ArmA vs VBS2

That's a VBS2 screenshot that I forgot to tag as such. When I have the time, I'll tag it.

Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures for ArmA

That is one of the most interesting ways to explain the disregard for life and limb of CTF/DM/etc that I've heard in awhile.

No, he's not. It was an amusing coincidence to me (he showed up in our group shortly after I heard that the ACE team was called "Catch 22"), but nothing more.

There's a PDF version in the works, yep. Should be out in a week or so.

Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures for ArmA

The thread merge happened and nothing can be done about it. I don't even care which topic of conversation you want to discuss, just please get back on one of the topics so we can have something useful occurring in here.

Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures for ArmA

A parallel thread appeared about an hour after this one did, it was about "real life tactics applied to videogames". All the talk you see of CS, CTF, DM, etc came from that thread - it was merged in here today. This thread was really polite in comparison. Glad you liked it, and thanks for the compliments.

Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures for ArmA

What? I don't know where you got that idea. Tactics has no bearing on the size of the unit. There are individual tactics, group tactics, etc. For reference: http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/tactic

Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures for ArmA

I wrote them based on the missions we play as a group, whether they're adversarial or cooperative. They're applicable to both.

Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures for ArmA

Correct. It's by the guys who did Wargames League for OFP.

Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures for ArmA

And with small units... as almost all MP-forms. Understandment of basic fundamental things in ArmA or OFP is main requirement for succesful match. I don't think that RL tactics have much meaning. how well guy uses his virtual weapons and controls + which side has lady fortuna's favor has bigger impact than tactics or should it be said combat-techinal things... Would you define a platoon (46 people in our org) as a "small unit"? 46 people working as one giant blob of uncoordinated nothingness is going to get monkey-stomped by a platoon working as a coordinated unit. 46 people vs hundreds of AI is likewise going to be the same - the lack of coordination, teamwork, etc is going to result in them getting shredded when a more teamwork-oriented and tactically-minded group is able to achieve victory.
