Hello fellow war-mongers! I'm looking to see if anyone knows where I can get a downloadable (and thus printable) guide/tutorial/walkthrough that explains or guides a person through everything that can be done with the (semi-)default game Mission Editor (I've already installed Gunslinger's Mission Editor changes). I tend to learn better when I can run the game/editor at the same time I have a guide in my hands, flippin' page-to-page. I'm very newbie (to mission creation only... I've had/played the game since 11/01) Â so avoiding this "scripting" thing would be great, as my wee-little-brain finds it difficult to absorb your large, modern-day words. Head hurt. Must rest. (Now denoir... keep yer guns in them holsters... before you close up the thread because "someone's asked this question 4,000 times already, we don't need a 4,001st", know that I did a search and found many replies to editing and specific issues, but nothing relating to an all-around, downloadable guide... so there. Â )

LOL! Same thing happened to me... I had the headphones on, sound worked to near max... and I was slowly stalking up some steps, hoping to get a better view of the (apparently) empty town. Â Right when I moved my mouse to look up, I see a Russian soldier standing right there in front of me, I literally jumped on my seat from the surprise! Â I damn near emptied an entire clip on him... from the shock. My wife ran up to me asking if everything was okay, granted... I took a swift punch to the arm when I told her that the game scared me. I confess, sometimes I get into this game way too much... damn realistic sound effects...

Hey, Snoopy. I downloaded the Ugandan Infantry you suggested (which seemed to have been the perfect thing I was looking for, but... and I don't know if something may be off on my PC or an OFP setting, but... their faces arent' black. Â The bodies look like "loosely organized" militia, but their faces aren't black. Â Have you experienced this too? Also, when I went into the Somalia map I downloaded, the ground wasn't yellow as in the picture/previw: In my game, the ground was all white... or light beige to be exact. Â I thought I was on the beach in Florida's west coast, not Somalia. Â Unless... hmmm... did the U.S. actually assault St. Petersberg instead of Mogadishu (sp) ?

Whis.. If it weren't scientifically possible, I would've guessed you did some sci-fi mind link with me. Â That's EXACTLY what I was looking for. That actually sparks another question (oh, you're gonna regret you replied to this thread! What's the difference between GET OUT and TRANSPORT UNLOAD? Â Speaking of which, I had found something earlier in the boards discussing the differences between GUARD, SENTRY, and HOLD. Â Though that thread helped give me a better idea of their function, it was a bit too complicated for my wee little brain. Â So it left a lot of other things in doubt. Do you know where I can get something that will explain the difference between all the possible commands in a Waypoint? Â Or if you're feeling adventurous, post them here? -

Okay... please explain what I'm doing wrong here (and at my novice level, there's probably much): The effort: I put a small enemy infantry squad at Location A, then placed a landed Mi-17 (pilot already inside) beside them. Â The squad/helicopter has been given 3 waypoints : the group has been told to GET IN the heli, then told to MOVE to a spot in the center of town (which we'll call Location B), then told to GET OUT a substantial distance away from town (let's call it Location C). Â The purpose: To relocate enemy group from Location A, have the helicopter fly over Location B, the town, (to visually [the sight of the helicopter and the player's thoughts of "There they go!"]) and audibly (the intimidating sound of a helicopter in general) inform the players that the baddies are "on the move", then fly to Location C to unload the passengers. The result: Shortly after the mission begins, one of two things happen: 1) You hear distant sound of the helicopter briefly followed by an Earth-shattering Kaboom!. Â Upon approach, you find the helicopter crashed into a building, the ground, or other unassuming obstacle (note that there are no other friendly units on the island, so no one could have shot it down)... or... 2) You hear the distant sound of the helicopter briefly, then it fades away. Â Assuming that everything has worked as intended, you advance into the town (which is between the players and Location C), and encounter the very infantry that was supposed to be in the helicopter!! Â They didn't get on!! Â Mind you, Location C (the drop-off point) is on a small island away from where the activity takes place, so it's not like if they could have walked back. Â After a search of the island, I find the helicopter just sitting there, hovering on a small stretch of land half-way between the town and it's final destination. .... what's going on here? -
So, share your ideas.... what weapons (real weapons, mind you... no Star-Trek this, or Alien-that) would you like to see in OFP that isn't already there? If you asked me, though I don't think the game mechanics could manage one, a flamethrower would be nice to see... I can picture it now... "Bunker? What bunker? Oh... you mean this bar-b-que fire pit?"

I know this may be a pointless string with an incredibly short lifespan but... has anyone seen a silenced SVD? Â There are plenty of silenced West snipers (PSG-1SD, M-21 Supressed, etc.) but I have yet to see a silenced SVD. Granted, I'm not as familiar with the massive OFP universe as Mr. Frag + AvonQueen are, but the few searches I've made have all resulted in naught. Anyone know if there is one out there, and if so, where a dirty potato-peelin' grunt like myself could find it? Why should the West have all the fun?

Well, I may have to look into that idea in regards to the vehicles. Â The scenario just wouldn't work without something of that nature present. Now, is there a way to put an MG on a URAL for example, or the civi-equivalent? Also, assume that you're talking to a complete and utter novice (you are), how do I do this "scripting" thingy with the MG on the truck? Finally... setface... sounds like it'd work... but then again, if you had told me to "recalibrate the flux-capacitor into a scripted poly-orthonal reactive command, then carry the trigger to a multi-variable wave string", I would have been equally impressed. (Did I do a good job of projecting the fact that I have absolutely NO clue what I'm doing? ...or should I try harder?)

Is there a way to create an item that a character can "pick-up"? For example, the player needs to get [item] from [place] in order to proceed. Is there a way to create an [item] that the player can then use the action menut to "take [item]"?? Just curious.

Thanks, denoir. I realized I placed it in the wrong spot JUST after I posted it. Ugh.

Any clue where either of those could be found? The Russian .50 caliber sniper rifle you're referring to is the probably the KSVK 12.7mm. "The KSVK anti-material (or large caliber sniper) rifle was developed in the late 1990s by ZID pland, based in Kovrov, Russia. It is based on the SVN-98 12.7mm experimental rifle. Initially known as ASVK, the KSVK is currently used in small numbers by varius Russian Special Operation units in Checnya as a counter-sniper rifle, capable of penetrating a brick or  thick wooden walls and disabling terrorsists hiding behind it." ...that'll leave a scar.

The dutch have this really nice modified M4 with an M-203 underneath! M/203 granatkaster Now, put that together with [insert name of creator here]'s silenced M4 (that I have on my PC but embarassingly cannot recall the author's name) and you've got a seriously nice weapon. Â Speaking of which... how about tossing a laser scope on that puppy!?!

Fair enough... ... but are any of those avaliable for the East? I used the SVD as an example, as that's the in-game sniper rifle and the standardized rifle for the Soviets. However, if there's another option out there for the East, I'm very interested... SVD or not.

-Begin Disclaimer- Please note, this is coming from an inexperienced person that has yet to create scrambled eggs that a hungry dog would eat, much less anything in OFP. -End Disclaimer- Now that I have that out of the way, how hard is it to add a suprressor at the end of a rifle without pictures of such a thing? (Note this is not meant with any ounce of sarcasm)

Oh yes.. VSS "Vintorez" Here's a handy little quote: "VSS (Vinovka Snaiperskaja Spetsialnaya = Special Sniper Rifle) was designed for special operations. Adopted by Russian Military and Special Law Reinforcement units in 1987. This rifle has integrated silencer and uses special subsonic ammo - 9mm cartridges SP-5 (special subsonic sniper cartridge) and SP-6 (special subsonic AP cartridge). With more precision SP-5 loads VSS provide a 75mm (ca. 3") 5 shots groups at 100 meters. SP-6 AP loads can pierce 8mm steel plate at 100 meters with heavy (16g) bullet with hardened steel core. VSS is intended for use at short and medium distances (up to 400 meters with telescope or up to 300 meters with night (IR) sight). Noise level of VSS is as low as 130dB, and is equivalet to noise of .22 unsilenced rifle. VSS was (and is) used in all local conflicts that Russian Army was involved in last decade." Muahahahahaaa.... now why doesn't OFP have something like that?

This a short article, as quoted from Jane's Defense News: "As the SA-80's woes continue, it looks like time to start again By Terry J Gander, Editor of Jane's Infantry Weapons The British Army's SA-80 Individual Weapon (IW) and Light Support Weapon (LSW) are back in the news for the wrong reasons. Despite extensive modifications it seems that they continue to jam. At present the two types are destined to remain in service until at least 2015. That may not now happen. It would appear that the only certain way to rectify the IW/LSW unreliability situation is to start again. Both weapons have now gained such a reputation for unreliability that even the slightest shortcoming will result in calls for replacement, the most likely candidate being the H&K G36." ... any thoughts?

I read this somewhere, but I don't remember exactly where. Â If anyone knows, please tell me if this is true, or not: "Inattentive gunners in the BMP/BVP/BMD series of vehicles may find that the autoloading mechanism will grab their left arm instead of a shell and attempt to ram it into the breech." Ouch.

It'd be easy to spot Russian tank gunners.... They're the ones that only have right arms!
