Do you like this look 2: The Electric Boogaloo
Col. Faulkner replied to DUX0726's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Hey! Just because a soldier wears feathers in his headdress doesn't mean he's a fairy! Â Â You could always think about making the feather into something more like a hackle (the feather "tuft" on this Highlander's Tam O' Shanter bonnet is called a "hackle"). -

I like that one a lot better -
That isn't my experience, Â nor I suspect that of the others participating in this thread. Each time you fire a burst the character stops moving. It's not such a biggie with the M16 and M4 rifles that have a 3 round burst sear since the halt is momentary, but it gets more noticeable if you want to cabby off a longer burst (from one of the "special forces" suppressed M4s for example). Anyway, I don't really regard this as a very serious issue.

Thanks for the clarification. Well I'm not personally interested in an "Americans only" Western Front, although I suppose a great majority of participants on this forum would be. "Wa_Va_voom" I think has an interesting idea (although I doubt that'd work in reality). Edit: I'd also say that if you are really interested in this particular period and theatre (and army) then just go for it! What would you really need a poll for anyway?

Can you describe what standstrokefist does? Is it just a "punch"? Actually I'm not much interested in zombies, but I'd like to see a "werewolf" addon so I can have a laugh getting some payback for "Dog Soldiers" Â Â I suppose a "punch" animation might come in handy for that so, if it isn't a major addition which will take time from more urgent corrective work in ArmA, then I'm for it.

Are you sure it's the FAL you want and not the FNC? I didn't think the Belgian army still used the FAL. Those guys in the picture you just posted are carrying the FNC. Here's my FAL "WIP". I'm actually planning to do the British and Commonwealth SLR but a FAL isn't too different so I was planning to do it anyway as a "bonus". I need to wait for the "tools" though.

I think it's rather hard to vote with any real conviction without some more [even rough] details of what you intend. For example, by "Western Front" do you mean the whole shebang from Sept 1939 through to May1945? All countries? All campaigns? All armies? In any case I think the vote is rather superfluous since many people are interested in WW2 games and any mod team working on that would be onto a winner (and I have a "Commando raid" addon set planned myself, so I'll need some decent Jerry addons! Â Â )

Hmmm, OK, I'll shut up now as all I'm achieving is broadcasting my ignorance. The only thing I'd question in passing is the likelihood of such huge rank badges on his upper arms. Are you planning to design some kind of special "Royal Guard Insignia", or design unique rank symbols for the Sahrani army (or just stick with the American symbols)? -
It's "normal" now because that's evidently how it works now in ArmA. You used to be able to cabby on the move in Op. Flashpoint but not in ArmA. Presumably it's something to do with the new character anims. I've never found (or heard of) any way to make it possible.

OK, thanks. I never knew about the Uday/Star Wars connection. Your outfit makes more sense given that backstory, then (but it still doesn't mean it doesn't look ridiculous  ). I think it's the white groin plate that most imparts the "Imperial Stormtrooper" touch to your man. What is he wearing on his shoulders? They look very broad (almost like an American footballer), and is there an "H" insignia on them or something? -

I agree. It looks a bit too "Star Wars". I think your regular army guy looks great; I think this looks ridiculous, so I voted "no". -
Could we just take it as read on this forum that whatever army one serves in or has served in or would like to serve in or daydreams about serving in while fiddling with oneself is always the "best" as far as one is concerned? All this tedious tribalism is so juvenile and annoying here! Why not open a "who's got the best army?" thread so we can all ignore you? @ Mr. Satchel, I apologize for the derail; I like how you have captured that unique camouflage pattern the Belgians use. If once the tools come out you still have no FAL then please come back to me, the FAL/SLR is top of my "addons to be made" list.
-
Well you brought it up! @ Mr. Simmons. Sorry for the derail. Your MODULES are quite interesting. I was working on something quite similar in Op. Flashpoint for some IRA addons.

Anyone get zombies to work?
Col. Faulkner replied to mrbean1112's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
But I think there are already American special forces in ArmA! (joke! joke! It's a joke, OK!? ) -

Col. Faulkner replied to DieAngel's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
You mean the mines or the swords? Â I recall hearing a story (on good authority) that a Scottish infantry regiment in the war in Indonesia in the 60s once asked for "Claymores" but got sent ceremonial highland broadswords instead! Â -

Col. Faulkner replied to DieAngel's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Yes, that's true - but so what? There are also many in service (now and in the past) that do have a backblast. Both should be represented. -

Yes it's the old .pac/.paa "bug" that many addon makers exploited for some cool effects (eg. for mimicking weapon "animations" and such). -

Yes, I use[d] "Shoot" for Op. Flashpoint. It really added a new dimension being able to "shout" orders to the little guys: "Team green, flank right, move! Team red, advance!" Â Â Highly recommended! -
"better than nothing"!? It is nothing! Â Â

a few addon/mod ideas i had...
Col. Faulkner replied to DieAngel's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
A "bayonet thrust" feature would be good, and I'm sure will get added sometime later by addon makers. Several Op. Flashpoint addons had an interpretation of it. The old adage "Nobody was ever killed by a bayonet who didn't already have his hands up" is belied by a close reading of history. -
Yeah! A "Columbo" mod! Â "Oh, there's just one more thing..."
-
Well you must be a wimp! It only weighs about 12 Kg!
-
But the point is that in ArmA you cannot even walk slowly forward at the alert and fire bursts, let alone run. All this babble about "...well I'm in <insert army here> and ... blah blah" is totally irrelevant to the matter in hand. It is a restriction that never used to be there in Op. Flashpoint. Firing on the move in OFP was a ridiculous waste of ammo, to be sure, but one could still do it! Now in ArmA we can fire a machine gun while rolling (a la Rambo) but not while walking! Â
-
So are there official definitions for "mod", a "module" and an "addon" then?
-
Yes, full marks for having a go, but...they're not carrying French weapons, they wear American webbing, American uniforms, American body armour, American boots, and have no French insignia; not very "French" really are they? It's only their berets pulled down at the "wrong" side that makes them look ever so slightly vaguely French.
