Autorotate on choppers doing emergency landing?
CameronMcDonald replied to Kynxx's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Not necessarily, I made the example overly simple, for people who have trouble coping with more difficult concepts. Â Of course, if you want to survive the landing, the horizontal position is usually a good way to go. -
Autorotate on choppers doing emergency landing?
CameronMcDonald replied to Kynxx's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Lies, all lies. I'm sick of hearing "autorotation doesn't exist in version blah blah blah." It has worked in all versions, and if people can't get it to work, then they're just crap pilots. Here's an exciting little montage I just made for you, using the latest v1.07 beta. It basically involves myself piloting an AH-1, and a little radio-activated trigger which removes all my fuel when activated, thus rendering my engine useless. Watch, and for the love of god, don't say autorotation doesn't exist after I manage to set the bird down with minimal damage from 200 metres in the air. Note: altitude 196. Just about to activate the trigger. Note: altitude 146. No fuel, rotors still at good RPMs. Note: altitude 57. No fuel, rotors still turning. About to ease up on the controls to soften my landing a bit. One landed AH1, if you please. Now, tell me how I managed to land my chopper if autorotation isn't working, hmm? -
Autorotate on choppers doing emergency landing?
CameronMcDonald replied to Kynxx's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
It's simple, man. I don't know what keys you blokes have mapped, but I just hold Z once my RPMs start dropping, and the rotors stay turning easily long enough for me to get to the ground and/or nearby trees. The chopper doesn't "glide" in an ArmA autorotate, it goes down, however it goes down at a survivable rate. All you have to remember is that if you stop descending, your RPMs will decay and it's a pile of debris for you and your chopper. You can turn, but you have to be descending simultaneously to keep the rotors turning. Once you hit the ground, run, run for your life, cause every tank within 3km will have you lined up on their uberradars. -
WIP: stuff you are working on!
CameronMcDonald replied to adumb's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Looks great Neph. I suppose you'll be making other models to go with him too, and by "other models" I mean - "more webbing?" Perhaps more modern webbing, like... say... the FLCV, MAV and I-Rack? Please? <puts on Puss-in-boots eyes> -

OK, well, as the author of these units, can I please ask what you intend to do with them? Btw, there is nametape, just no name, heh. -

6thSense.eu Presents: Tracers (Beta)
CameronMcDonald replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Those damn tracers do prove elusive, Sick. Had to use setacctime 0.01 to get them on screen! *Ahem* If you'll all glance at the left side of the screen you'll see a fine example of a SLA green tracer, being fired by some loon with a PK. In the centre foreground we see a rare shot of a US red tracer. Isn't it magnificent? Finally, if you dare to have a squiz at the top of the picture, slightly right of the centre, you'll see a US AAA Vulcan firing into the distance. Superb. EDIT - Btw, the only time I get the "tracer appearing above my head" bug is when firing at a point 20m approx. or closer to me. -
Mate, three words. Keep making stuff. Loving it on this end. Ah, yes, one other thing - you say you've used some of SLX's work, which I have seen and loved, especially the removal of the Anaconda's mag, but I was curious, did you experiment with that certain value (it was mentioned somewhere in SLX's weapon demo thread) that makes the magazine "drop" (when reloading) and seem to sit in the bloke's hand for a bit longer than usual? I'll see if I can't drag it up.

Heh, in the short time you've been involved in the community, chances are your scripting skills already crap all over mine. Looking forward to the final result here. -

CameronMcDonald replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Looks better AFAIK (never fired tracer rounds), I wouldn't mind getting my hands on that version. Keep it up. -
...and the AI. I'd say it's for MP use only, the bots are bloody atrocious.

x4 - anyone who can build their own computer should do it. Otherwise, it's a certainty that you *will* get assraped money-wise. It takes only a little bit of time and effort, and the end product is very satisfying.

What's the best ArmA site?
CameronMcDonald replied to The-Architect's topic in ARMA - SQUADS AND FANPAGES
www.armedassault.info (ofp.info child) and www.armaholic.com, IMHO. -
These are very good, a very nice evolution of Cent's work. The only suggestion I could make it to perhaps make them a little bit thinner, though I also do believe this can be done by the mission maker, ya? Nice job Sick!

PMC AEC islands released!

Sure mate. Also, just so you know, I'm running an 8800GTX on 158.24 WHQL drivers (since the error is 3D related).
-
That was spectacular. It was great on so many levels, I don't know where to begin. Let's see: - Saving film by using the same "army roll" sequence about 3 times. - Using a total of one revolver, a couple of shoddy Sten guns, one breech-fed shotgun and one RPG (with string) as the weapons for the entire movie. - Enemies dressed like they were on some kind of English moor hunt, with Volvo-driver caps to match. - Uber lip synching. - PG shells just lying around. - People running out of houses and dying when the explosions had finished a whole five seconds back. - Crappy hand to hand combat. I especially loved the "strangled to death in 3 seconds" and "I can dodge bullets by rolling" parts. - Permilicious hair. - The close ups on the PG shells hitting the ground (just so you knew they hit). - Gunfighter moustaches. Superb. The only modern day film I know to rival this one is Delta Force 3. And only in that scene where the protagonists destroy an entire armoured battalion, complete with T55s and dug in Miniguns with their trusty M16/M203s. Pure gold.

It's a great program, but sadly, while it runs for Vista, I get an error message and can't see the model or wireframe. Still, great job! It'll certainly help others until a Vista-compatible tool comes out.

[REPLIQUANT] Authentic weapons mod
CameronMcDonald replied to heliosjet's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Certainly looks good. Once the tools are released, you could get the whole SLX slide movement going, as well as the other enhancements for other weapons. -
1st Infantry Division
CameronMcDonald replied to CameronMcDonald's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Thanks mate, I'm glad you like it. Well, here's that somewhat better pic of the IOTV I promised. I'm a comparatively shite screenshotter, so I'll get more crap ones up soon. Normals and the textures themselves are done, it's damn frustrating not being able to change the models, but this should tide me over until I can do some polyraping. IOTV Oh, and work on the SF continues, though I'm about to enter exam block, so I may take a while - my apologies. -
