    1.08 Troubleshooting thread.

    I've had a CTD after about 30 minutes of testing. I got there a very cpu intensive mission with lots of tanks and infantry and explosions - no crash. Then i thought i'd give the A10 a try - only me in my A10 flying. When flying very low i started noticing the graphical artifacts being seen alot when using bad drivers or when the gpu is overheating - i mean the vector style graphics. Also lots of street textures were replaced by sand textures all around the place. Then i crashed the plane into a building - game starts freezing and suddenly CTD + the 800700xx message - cannot create surface memory (soz don't know exactly but the message seems to be well known and has been posted already in here). In combination with DXT5 or so. Gonna have to check if it was some settings i've changed or if it's my 1024 maxmem (but 1024 worked before fine). And for the statistics: I have a 7950 GT KO 512mb and it's the first time i'm getting problems like this now. Previous versions did run smooth and without any problems. ~S~ CD

    Patch 1.08 doesn't boot for me either

    So you're testing hardware intensive software or just simply software for business etc.? If you're testing hardware intensive software (and i mean games for pc's), your statement is very far off world and i wouldn't believe you doing that because you would then know how hard it is to find out problems in combination with certain pc setups. If you're talking about the business software, then it's a total other topic and could in no way be related to problems like this one. ~S~ CD

    SecuROM problem - Error 7001

    Funny, how bullshit is making propaganda these days. So you bought your game from BIS? Strange - everybody else seem to have bought it from it's publisher - may it be Morphicon, 505, Atari etc. What a pain in the a**e that you know who is the developer of the game you bought, but the contract you made, has been made with you and your publisher. Slowly but continuesly i start believing that to support a comunity too much is rather a step into the wrong direction than forward. If you go into a supermarket and you get bad eggs and sick of them, to who you will complain? To the farmer who's chicken made these eggs, or to the responsibles in the supermarket. ~S~ CD

    SecuROM problem - Error 7001

    You just don't want get it. The "Devs" did already all they could. Maruk posted you the official statement from the responsibles for Securom problems - SECUROM. Since you don't want to mess around with your registry, and by looking at the games you play, you will soon need to find a hobby (not on your pc). ~S~ CD

    Install 1.08 patch right now or wait for fix?

    That really hurts There is no weapon bug apart of using 3rd party addons which are not configured the way, 1.08 requires. Your weapon bug is caused by you yourself and nobody else can fix it but you! Remove all your addons and put them in back one by one to sort out the troublemaking addons. ~S~ CD
  6. Man you should inform yourself a little bit before posting something. Both those games you've mentioned are using Securom copy protection. Now your so called "Securom bug" has absolutely nothing to do with BIS. I have Pro Evolution Soccer 6 which uses also Securom, and sometimes i also need to start that game a few times until it gets running. This has more something to do with the CD Drive not being recogniced or in a certain amount of time no response or whatever else - but BIS has nothing to do with this "bug" in any way. ~S~ CD

    Afgan Objects

    Well, i reckon you said in your first post that some textures are not good and that it's not finished yet but i hope you meant that you didn't add some detail to the buildings like that hole which D@nte mentioned. If it's your first work on buildings - heads up but for ArmA standards the buildings need definitely get improved. At the moment they're looking even simple for OFP's standard in modeling detail (i don't mean the textures btw). Btw - no offense meant with my critism, just trying to help from buildingmaker to buildingmaker   by pointing you into the right direction. Also i've heard that even in Afghanistan they use to have something like a door - may it be a carpet or a wooden board, but something you should make there. Let them stay open or make them broken but no doors in a country where everybody wears big beards might be a lil' bit strange.  :edit - after watching the pics again i must say that you have doors there and it was the pic in D@nte's post which brought me to the door point. Though this building still looks like there has never been a door inside. And last but not least here's a gift for your: David Gurrea's textures Check these textures out i'm sure you will find some nice ones over there. ~S~ CD

    Yeah, that's because you probably have no player unit on the map. This sometimes happens when merging or copy/pasting a player unit onto the map. ~S~ CD

    AI = joke

    I love manifestos like this. It truly shows how narrow your focus is on the things this sim can't do well rather than on the things it can do, and do very well. There are still quite a few bugs and features not implemented that I would love to see in the game, but for reasons were not. If you want to let it gather dust because of things you perceive as deal-breakers, then that's your loss. This game still can do more on the macro scale than any other milsim on the market. It doesn't do the micro level things as well as other such as the ai shooting around corners, or perfect ai pathing finding in cities, etc, etc, blah blah bah, but name ONE other shooter that attempts to be realistic, has a sandbox mission builder with as many features as this one, has open scripting, gives you the ability to rather easily add anything you want as far as addons, etc etc. You can't because there aren't any yet. It's far from prefect, and if you try and force it to do things it doesn't do well and wasn't made for, then why bother playing, especially if you are frustrated every time you play? Sounds like it will never live up to your expectations. Thx Ebud, couldn't have said it better. @5133p39 I totally understand what kind of game you're after - hell i too would like to see such a game for € 40 or 50. It's a game like those seen in Star Trek next generation, ya know: holo deck But i'm afraid we will have to wait still a long time to get our hands on such a baby - even VBS2 probably won't feature what you're searching for and look at it's price. @jolulure: If you didn't like OFP's ai behaviour in general (no matter what version), i can't anymore recommend you to buy a new hardware only to be able to run ArmA. It doesn't differ too much on that point that it would be worth for you to upgrade your hw. If you're one day going to buy new hardware because of anything else, you still could give ArmA a try just to convince yourself. ~S~ CD

    Sorry, but i can't share your feelings 4in1. Â He would have to upgrade all his hardware and he asks wether it's getting or is better than what he've seen on that idiotic video. In every case the ai in ArmA is more smart than some funny thought comments of it's comunity. ~S~ CD yes i fully understand that upgrade all his hardware but that didnt mean that he is correct to base complain on videos Then show him something better instead of your first atempt. Â No offense meant btw - but it makes our comunity appear in a bad light when answering like you did. Off course he means by default but that's only because he doesn't no too much about OFP/ArmA than what he has seen in that poor video. Long time users do well know that it's not like that and that well configured ai can act better even without any updates from BIS - that's a fact. And i did never encounter people being unhappy about this - the more i remember lot's of smileys when some user made ai enhancement has arrived. ~S~ CD

    I can't see a direct relation between being able to connect over two different applications to a server. Could be that telnet works and the game doesn't - easily managable over the firewall or other stuff me thinks. It could just point you into a direction where to go on searching for the source of the problem if it works or not over telnet. ~S~ CD

    Sorry for making a dbl-post now but i fear by editing my previous post it could get a little bit confusing and overseen. No, you don't need to download scripts or mods - you can: a) make them for yourself b) improve the ai by using the mission editor and use it the right way (not like been done in that video) c) download missions, which got a decent review and ratings Don't expect the basic missions to be uber since they should be seen more like a suggestion for mission makers of how they should set up their scenarios. The strength is in the ingame editor and in the comunity made missions. btw - after a while you will start downloading addons over and over because they add such a greater atmosphere to your or other ppl's scenarios. :edit Not true: you can activate any script from a waypoint and everything would be possible. And what is the downside on that Fact is, you can do it or you can just wait a little bit and let others do it for you (which for 100% is going to happen). I don't understand why you even wrote your last comment in capitals - it looks to me only like you're searching for reasons how to call it a bad game. Question here was: is it going to become better Answer is straight: YES ~S~ CD

    After i was reading those replies that you shouldn't bother ArmA comunity like that, i must say i did want post something but because my previous post wasn't a short one i also didn't want to bother anybody again. But here goes: I disagree with such opinions because the only thing you seem to have seen yet before was that video showing how stupid ArmA's ai is. This makes your question totally legitime and shouldn't be seen as an insult to the ArmA comunity. However, i already tried to tell you that the ai even at it's worst behaviour will appear terribly dangerous in the eyes of the oponent. Also a straight answer to your question i've already given at the end of my last post: I don't think it's important wether the improvements of ai will be made by BIS themselves or by users. Fact is: BIS has included a way to enhance ai by FSM and now it's up to the users to use this. If you can't get ArmA to run on your rig to be able to convince yourself i'd have an alternative suggestion: get a copy of ofp it's not really expensive anymore, and probably there are even a lot of ppl out there who already moved to ArmA, considering to get rid of their old OFP. Some of them even had two or three exemplaries - so chances are big you can get one cheaper than for € 10. Note that OFP's graphics isn't up to date but you could get an idea of how the ai is acting yourself. And last but not least i want say again: The ai seen in that video has not been set up like it should (possible without any scripting knowledge from within the mission editor and the options menu). It looks like an ai group just being placed somewhere without any waypoints and other settings which is a must if you want to set up a decent mission. I could make the very same scenario easily but i could with 30 seconds more work improve their behaviour for at least 50%. Point is: it's up to the user to define how dumb or smart the ai is acting - show me other games where you can do this up to your likings. Also you should know that: you can set up almost any scenario that comes into your mind - which is the strongest point of OFP/ArmA. Finally i want say it again, to answer your question: Yes, ArmA's ai will become much better than that what you have seen in this video and it already is it ~S~ CD

    10-Digit Game Id's?

    hmm - i already posted my opinion for both cases so no need to turn around after every post me thinks. @Synide: since you now say you know that they're faked id's; could you provide any link to an official statement or anything else that would proove you're right? Though i know you don't need to do so because you owe me or anybody else nothing but since you started this thread it would be a nice move of yours. Until such a clarification appears i doubt that it would make any sense to continue a discussion here. ~S~ CD

    AI = joke

    Well, it seems to me a little bit like you're pushing the wrong button all time. Look: ArmA ai acts like OFP's ai. They don't take too much cover e.g: behind cars or rocks. They look sometimes stupid, especially when being set up by somebody who is a) new to editing or b) not a mission maker or c) wants them to do so. Hell even sometimes if everything's been set up right, they may look stupid in relation to how a real soldier or you yourself would react in some situations. But... They will give you a great atmosphere and during firefights you gonna make the experience of heavy heart beat because you shot one of those stupid ai's but now all his stupid ai buddies trying to take revenge. You will make the experience of taking your head out of cover for a second too long and whoooooomp - you're hit - not dead but heavily injured so that you can't aim 100% accurate anymore - you will lay down trying to escape by crawling hearing enemy footsteps around you and begging for that they would be so stupid like seen in the video of the first post. Suddenly an ai soldier will appear from where you didn't expect him - you aim your gun onto him, he aims onto you - tatatatam - you were faster - he's down - your heart starts beating even faster. You think now's the time to make a run into a new cover - you get up start run - zing zing zing za zing - bullets impacting beside you and you will press the run-key as strong as possible just to get out. You arrive at your new cover location - that big rock over there - you run behind it realizing there's another stupid ai standing - you almost fall of your chair - again you shoot, he shoots: you are dead That's where ArmA/OFP has it's top strength - not some perfect eye candy handling of scripted bots. Though it's possible and not too hard to do, to enhance the ai by scripts so that they will react even more to your likings (been done in ofp a lot and will be done for ArmA even mucho better). A lot of sites where you can get user made missions are making reviews of those and if there were a mission where ai was acting like in: 'look how stupid ai can be' video, this mission wouldn't have got a good score and not too many had downloaded it. I've been playing OFP from the beginning and i don't see ArmA's ai being worse than OFP's - and if then due to a bug wich already got or 100% sure will get sorted out. ~S~ CD

    AI = joke

    I'd like to add: If you would play even that mission from the video, facing those stupid looking ai's from that video on even same settings this "video artis" used (who knows how he did set up the ai skills in options btw), you wouldn't notice their stupid behaviour. You would just run for cover not trying the risk to find out wether they keeping in formation or not. OFP's ai did sometimes look very very same (if set up wrong) but during a fight this was always hardly noticeable since you've been busy saving your b*tt. Even if you only got singleplayer, it's worth it. Those in this thread who suggested not to buy it (and i mean those in this one thread here), only look like the typical 'ArmA-haters' who can't get it to work right or who probably got the bad luck to have the wrong hardware even if it should be decent enough (nothing new in computer gaming world btw). But they didn't even mention any solid reason why you shouldn't get the game. ~S~ CD

    + = not to be posted on a platform, where not only adults getting access. Sorry, but since noone officially confirmed the guess which your 'local' bans are based upon and you confirmed that you don't have a clue wether it's like that or not (in your first post) i can only: though it's your server (or at least you rule there) and therefore it's your decision what you're doing there.
