    heheh V8 power mate.. and Ford to boot! Because I don't have the time the Hawk has been given to a mod to finish. Bit like the chopper in this addon package.. one of those things I started but went on to other things BTW there are two VW trike addons to be finished that should add some variety to this . er... slap my wrists.. send me to detention.. sorry all good intentions, but again aother things popped up. Hell i haven't even finished the cheyenne myself

    Hi The bombs going white should not have been seen as it is the lowest lod (100) and had not been textured. as i didn't think they would be seen at that distance. However, thanks for pointing that out. The addon was made nearly two years ago, and I didn't recheck it. Will be fixed in the next release. I'm writing up the init door animation commands for the next readme file as well. P.S. reversed lettering all fixed now

    Good eye for detail. This must have happened when I was copying and pasting. Never fear. In the next day or so I will upload a fixed version (isn't this fun). Will include some more sounds for the doors which I had sadly omitted.

    Right. Some people will be experiencing some lod problems with this building. The reason for this is either your graphics card, or the OFP preference settings. The two computers used to test the building only had the problems you suggest when the Object LOD settings are too high. Mine is set to 0.005 and/or the Geometry performance is not set high enough. Mine is set to the maximum. Also the proxy models only show up in the highest lod (0.00) and if a lower lod is visible some of the detail will not be present, but you will collide with invisible objects because the proxies' geometry lod is still there. The reason for this is that although the proxy models have their own geometry lod when they are used as proxies, I have had to manually build the collision objects in the shelter geometry lod itself. I'm putting up a fix for the lower lods so that the proxies will be visible. As for other detail loss I cannot do much about that except you look at your preference settings under the Advanced button.

    A plea to addon makers

    Oh boy, a challenge just kidding Seriously, I've always welcomed positive feedback that will help improve any addons I've made. Like a lot of others I'm still learning about how the config settings affect an addon etc. Here are some of my thoughts on standardization. Standardization is a great idea, but here are some points to ponder: Why have standardization? (addon makers generally do what they want) Who will set the standardization? (an individual, a group, representatives of mods? Who will select them?) What set of rules will govern standardization? (based on JAM, ECP, or other rules??) Where will the rules be posted? (here, or other sites?) When will they be in place? (this year, next year?) How will the rules of standardization be administered? (addon beta testers, the community at large, or selected individuals or groups?) Some further ones for discussion: Will people get upset with the new standardization? Will the standardization be adhered to? A thought: I think BIS has also tried to start a standardization for addons with AAE and from my observation there are very few addons adhering to AAE standards. Some config starting points: Okay we can follow BIS' configs, but I think generally addon making has gone far beyond them already e.g. the ECP, Pappy's modification of the configs and JAM standards for ammunition. Finally: As in most cases where a standardization code is being formed, the problem of one code being suitable for everyone will always raise conflict. For example: What one person sees as the standard configuration for a M16 is not the same as another person's view. Also a standardised base addon would have to be on every persons pc in order for the addons that adhere to the standardized rules to work.

    You could always script it so that when the player piloted plane approaches the shelter a unit (soldier) is created that joins the pilots group. He walks up to the plane. "Hey, Boss, you want me to open that door for ya?" Which you reply: "Yeah, does it look like I wanna hang around here all day?" Or something like that. Of course it could be a bit of a problem if you fly low over the shelter. The guys still asks the same inane question, which you still reply to, but then the stupid git would be forever calling out "Where are you?" So you need to script it so it only works when the aircraft is on the ground, then of course this second scenario would never take place. Which is a shame really cos the git that calls out "Where are you?" is usually the first casualty of war! At least when I play Alteratively create a trigger near the shelter that auto opens the doors as you approach. Anyway. This is a really cool addon.

    Hmm. Apart from the missing sounds, textures that could be caused by the Binarize process as already mentioned, and the other addons sometimes required, I don't think the other cpp problems are much of an issue. As for weekend addon makers vs working addon maker, this is rather unfair as most, if not all, addon makers do this  in their spare time, hence most would fall into the former rather than the latter. As for addon makers 'screwing up', I think this is also a very unfair comment, as nobody is perfect, and even with the best intentions mistakes can be made. There is some good advice here, but remember not everyone who makes addons is a programmer, so the indentation comments are a bit superfluous. Also addon makers, scripters, etc have learnt this craft with very little  examples to go on, and quite often in their eagerness to release a new addon their enthusiasm overlooks the finer points. Good or bad, I don't know. Perhaps those people who have the 'expertise' in cpp config writing should either: 1. Write a tutorial and a set of guidelines for the weekend addon makers to follow, or 2. Offer their services to the addon makers in question. An inventor once said: "Show me someone who has never made a mistake, and I'll show you someone who has never made a thing."

One day when he's not watching I'm gonna kick his ass, in the mean time I console myself into making objects I cannot touch, for a virtual computer game and to share them with people I have never met... I do it cos I'm nearing senility and will never fly a helicopter or fighter jet. I get the satisfaction that what I create is enjoyed by millions.. er.. thousands worldwide.. Hmm should franchise this.. The only problem I have is there is so much to do.. so little time that's all from me.. my psychiatrist says that I shouldn't get too excited.. doh she's blonde, 23, and drop dead gorgeous.. damn.. my pacemaker batteries are getting fla...

    Hmm Been away for a day or so and still the debate rages. I'm beginning to think the war in Iraq will be over before the ODOL Explorer debacle is. I'm probably one of the oldest in the current OFP community and personally I don't see what the fuss is over. Ok so there a few people out there that will "steal" other people's work.. so what? What I would like to ask is how many of those 'concerned brethren' have copies of music, computer programs.. etc etc who are deploring the release of ODOL Explorer.. There is a saying be careful of throwing stones.. What's done is done. Get over it and move on. By continuing this debate means that people have too much time on their hands where they should be getting on with their addon making. The community was born from the OFPEC community that shared (probably before that), so what happened? Ok so a few people were given O2 to use. To beta test if I remember correctly. There was a debate over whether it should be opened to the wider community. There was a fear of inferior addons.. hell my first addons were inferior.. But the wider community were given O2 and the addons have improved greatly, because of two things.. experience and.. yes.. SHARING! Then Binarize came along.. to optimize the addons, no more no less. Okay so it gave the addon creator some protection against fraudulent misuse of the addon.. but that was not the intention.. it was for smaller filesize and optimization. What has happened, and I am sure this is the main reason people are a bit upset, is that as addons have progressed and mod teams have formed, there has been a bit of jealous guardianship over their work. As addon knowledge, particularly in scripting, has progressed, there have been some major inroads to getting the best out of OFP. COC did it with their amazing addons, BAS have done it, and others including myself, have tried to push the limitations of OFP. I have always been the sharing type. Along with Brrseb, and others, we have attempted to share our knowledge with the noobie and others who want to learn. Whether ODOL Explorer can save to MLOD or not doesn't matter. If, and its a big IF, this community wishes to survive then we need to TRUST one another and get back to basics. Sharing information, knowledge, whatever is the first step. As stated several times before on this thread, If you want to edit another persons addon and wish to release it.. then ASK. If permission is not given then respect that. People have asked me for the mlod of the harrier and the A4 and I have refused, because the addons are betas, and they are primarily for the Falklands Mod. Others have asked about the zodiacs, and other addons I have made and permission has been granted. I personally think this debate has served its purpose, people have expressed their opinions, and respectfully thats all they are. As there has been no official statement in this thread about the tools release, my advice (sagely) is give it a rest. Get over it and move on.
