  1. This is most relevantly directed at the DKM mod and the BWmod, but anybody else feel free to help! What is the LOD for armoured vehicles in OFP? When modeling the vehicle is it necessary to model the 'internals' at the same time as the externals? Are there any options which cannot be used ie tappering, when modelling? Any other advice would also be useful!

    Modelling armoured fighting vehicles

I am just about half way through learning Max, and I was going to model the Saxon APC as my first model, I am keen to model British units, and whilst the Saxon isnt the most glamourous vehicle to model I think I should start on the more basic side of things before heading on to IFVs and MBTs.

    Recommend a campaign?

The ULOTC campaign, the first campaign ever for OFP and I'm still updating it! At Avon's sight search under campaigns.

    Hind paintjob

If someone does skin it, then they would also need to add fatboyslim's bird of prey to it so you can fly around with it blaring in the background!

    New sa80 is already out

Any chance of an accurate SUSAT sight picture, ie a giant black, thick, pin like object protruding from the base of the sight picture, possibly with a reddened tip to simulate the Tritium?

Creating ninja like style of play

I really love reading some of these misconceptions about ninja, they really are very funny.
  8. Looks good and I like the accurate UK camo, but Russian helmet would be better or a new model full stop with the 95/2000 webbing. Just a thought. But with regards to the SA80, the sight NEEDS changing, if you are going to use the SUSAT please use the correct sight, a simulation of the red trilux pin would also be good.
  9. Ok installed nice and juicy after sorting cd-key problem, try to load and then after all the splash its crashes to desktop not giving me a hint what went wrong, but after multple attempts says "failed memory map 0.pbo". Now I've got a vast collection of addons but with regards to earlier posts this apparently should'nt be a problem, I've 384mb ram so I can't see how thats a problem either, anyone got any ideas (apart from a full reinstall!?

Cannot memory map files o.pbo :'(

Why is this I problem I have around 550mb of addons but why would this cause a crash when Ofp normally ran fine?
  12. I've only just opened the box put the cd in and upon being prompted for an access code I look in the manual and what do I find? 4 or 5 key codes printed on top of each other! Any ideas of how to solve this tiddbit?

    The power of oxygen

Now that oxygen is available to certain modelers an incredibly powerful tool has been given to the ofp community. With the advent of oxygen we (I use the term 'we' very loosely) effectively have an infantry combat environement and engine in which any sort of combat based simulation is possible. This means that we can create any sort of combat game in the environment of the ofp world from realistic to fantastic. Already ww2 projects are springing up yet it is also concevable that star trek, star wars, starship troopers, warhammer 40,000, any sort of sci-fi combat can effectuvely be modelled within the accomodating world of ofp. So long as people make sure elements are balanced there is pretty much no limit to what can be created. It would be really good to see people realise this potential beyond a massive proliferation of aircraft, and the view that OFP should'nt go non-military. The whole point of optional addons is that the individaul is at leisure as to whether they download them or not. Therefore complaints against others wish to expand in their own way are redundant. It would be really quite cool to see space marine and star troopers stomping around and deploying from thunderhawk gunships, and for those of a more realistic nature they have the military addons. So don't limit yourself go to town!

    The power of oxygen

i'd definately agree with that, Marines would be excellent!

    The power of oxygen

To refine my origonal point; The ofp engine, providing you bear its limits constantly in mind when desiging new addons, could provide a weatlh of new units. The aliens idea sounds good although implement the xenomorphs themselves would be 'interesting' at best! However it is quite easy to get a myriad of new units based on the old 'templates' as I see them. To use a Warhammer 40,000 template: Thunderhawk: Helicopter based, gunner and pilot, large troop payload and lots of different weapons, some aimable some not: abrams main gun, hydra rockets, and machine guns. Medium manoeverability. Land speeder: helicopter base, high manouverability, gunner and pilot, rockets and machine gun. Rhino: M113 type apc Space marine: basic infanteer reskinned and rebuilt with increase armour and stats, bolter added with new ammunition. etc.etc. With this sort of basis nothing is really departing from the ofp engine and should fit in quite nicely, its a lot of work but it would be cool to see them in! Models galore!

Satchels got a brilliant idea check out this sitehttp://www.facets3dmodels.com/, there is an almost unlimited number of medels to check out and maybe could be ported to OFP through O2?

    Which sa80 do you prefer?

CWS is the common weapon sight, its a night intensification device, quite nifty with lots of cunning design features to stop the green glow giving you away unessecerily!
  21. Challenger3

    Which sa80 do you prefer?

SUSAT because that is what the infantry use, iron sights would be for any other arm that is not deployed in the infantry role, ie armour when they are 'mounted'

    Some ideas for modders

Jsut thought I slap together a few ideas with regards to models bearing in mind the OFP engine restraints: Aircraft: F-4 Phantom; vietnamish and the weapons are'nt too high tech, also just v.cool Harrier; could be difficult to implement given the vtol capability, but maybe use a switch to change between helicopter and aircraft mode? Helicopters: AH/MH-6 "little birds": cos they are cool and would be a laugh to fly UH-1 Iriquis: well we've got some on the way but the model detail is crucial to recapture certain film esque feelings, both doors should be open and the 'cargo' should be able to sit with their feet over the edge (ala eviscisorator model), a big ass m60 would be good too Armour: Challenger1 or 2 and warrior AIFV: for us brits A light tank of some descrioption: the new AGS-8, or scimitar/sabre CV(T)R Artillery: M109, or AS90 but their role, and imlementation as true artillery perices in ofp is dubious Also new anti-air vehicles, with the spread of new aircraft there is less and less to counter them and the shilka and vulcan are pretty useless against an a-10 or su-25 anyway, something with missiles would be good! Wheeled vehicles: An armed Hummer!!, Land rover 110 Small arms: SA80, LSW, FAMAS, OICW Also though I can't think of any plenty of russian equivalents, The list is pretty poor but I'll add to it as I can think of things Furthermore given the fact that all sorts of skins are coming out maybe it would be a good idea to skin them as part of a coherent army, this would help mission makers a great deal with realism, after all a netherlands hawk, german apc, and candian tank are hardly likely to appear fighting together!!

    Some ideas for modders

My post wqas'nt really about the specificity of addons, the list presented is really what I would like to see and would fit in, but the main drive of my post was to generate some coherency amongst unit building and thier colourings, its all worth while churning out units, but units are merely tools themesleves fro mission makers to represent their scenarios, new vehciles do not constitute new life fro ofp on their own. The units need to be desgined coherently and efferctively so that the mission makers will want to use and implement them, therefore they have to be of a high quality but also of a coherent nature so that when the player uses them they have a feeling of beuing in the correct place, in short my argument is that coherencey is required to make imerssion more effective and easy for the player as well as retaining an element of realism, afterall OFP does set out to have a vague degree of real world credability.

    British units

Just thought I'd post to see if there were any british units on the way, it would be nice to see a decent SA80 with a realistic SUSAT sight as well as say a challenger2 (and maybe 1) as well as the warrior AIFV and AS90, possibly an FV432... On a different note what does everyone think of eviscisorator's heuy? Dodgy model but hes certainly got the cargo right all it needs is lads sitting on the edge of both doors (with them open) and a nice M60 and we're away, for Oxygen perhaps?

    British units

Thanks Avon, I'm not so interested in the skins because most have berets not helmets which is rubbish anyway, if you are going to a conventional war and most others you wear a helmet and not a beret, plus the webbing needs redoing as well as the helmet shape if biritish soldiers are to be "accurate". I'm more interested in the larger visual differences such as armoured units and the like, MBTs, AIFVs, APCs, Jeeps, trucks, Helos, etc.
