Crowdsourced Hardcore Tactical Shooter
BOTA:16 replied to Nutlink's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
That's been a problem in the past. I agree it seems almost every developer has always stated those buzzwords (hardcore, tactical, realist/authentic, old school, etc.) and when the game comes out it's nothing like one might imagine. It has came to a point of developers "crying wolf" one too many times and the tactical shooter community has become jaded to those descriptions. But, even if it's not exactly like old R6, GR or SWAT games it wouldn't be the end of the world. If it's even remotely close (no health regen, no respawn, non-linear), I would still consider it infinitely better than every other mainstream shooter that has been released in the last 8 years. -

Crowdsourced Hardcore Tactical Shooter

If you look at the Kickstarter page, he linked a number interviews he has done which states many of those details. But again people aren't really seeing the big picture of the Kickstarter. I tried to explain it a few posts up. -

Crowdsourced Hardcore Tactical Shooter
BOTA:16 replied to Nutlink's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
The main goal of the Kickstarter is not to wholly fund the game. The Kickstarter is to show investors (not necessarily publishers) that there is a market for it. If he could hit is $200,000 goal, then the outside investors are much more ready to hit the green button. If you pledge something and in the end it doesn't reach the goal, your pledge disappears and you don't send any money. A pledge now at least shows your support for a game like this. If you like a game like ArmA (which I'm assuming people on these forums do ;)) and would like a similar type game that focuses on CQB, then here is your chance to show it. A game like this will almost certainly never get made without a lot of "grassroots" type support. While I agree the "content" of the future game is lacking, it's not like this guy appeared out of nowhere. Personally I am sick of cookie cutter military shooters (i.e. CoD, BF, MoH). Aside from ArmA there is nothing in the "tactical shooter" realm and a tactical CQB shooter is non-existent currently. Just my $.02. -
Got a new SSD and need to re-install, recommended install/patch order? I have Arma 2 Vanilla, ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead, and BAF.
-
I've played 2 games on OnLive and both looked like something a GPU puked up. Not to mention the input lag. For RTS and some RPG type games, yes Onlive can work good enough. For something like ArmA or anything that remotely requires precision, not a chance. Maybe for something like SP, but even that's a very big maybe.

ArmA II / OA Installation problems
BOTA:16 replied to ShadeCrenshaw's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Help. :( Hard drive crashed so I had to reinstall everything including ArmA2, OA and BAF. Vanilla ArmA 2 installs with no problems. When I try to install OA I get about 98% done and then I get CRC mismatch error when it tries to install /weapons_e.pbo. ArmA 2 was bought through Nexway(?) (digital download) Operation Arrowhead was digital download from Sprocket BAF was digital download from Sprocket I've tried Install ArmA 2 then patch to 1.07 and 1.08 separately then install OA, same error on same file Install ArmA 2 then install OA, same error on same file Install OA to a different directory, same error on same file Removed all the .md5 files from the Sprocket folder, it checked the files and redownloaded the setup.exe, same error same file Deleted and Redownloaded all the game files (.exe, .bin, .md5), same error and same file Specs Windows 7 Pro 64-bit Intel E8400 ATI 6950 1GB 4GB RAM 500GB HD Suggestions? It worked today for whatever reason with the re-downloaded complete game files from Sprocket. -
Transport Unload Problems
BOTA:16 replied to Toasticuss's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Simple heli insertion 1. Place Helicopter on map, name it heli1 2. Place troops you want to insert and use the this moveincargo heli1; in each of their init lines. 3. Hit F2 (Group) and drag a line from each soldier to the group leader (i.e. you the player) 4. Place a Helipad marker (Invisible or visible) where you want the drop off point to be. 5. Place a waypoint from Heli1 to the helipad marker and change it from 'Move' to 'Transport Unload'. 6. Add a 'Move' waypoint for Heli1 to where you want the helicopter to go after unloading. Try the mission in the editor, when the chopper lands it will automatically kick you out, you need to give the disembark order to your squad for them to get out. You can also give the disembark order before the chopper lands. Once they are all out the chopper will take off and fly to the next waypoint. The chopper never turns his engine off as well. -
Operation Arrowhead - Ammo Crate Filler
BOTA:16 replied to KC Grimes's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Wondering more for vehicles, particularly the helicopters. I like to use heli insertions as kind of a pre-mission planning time. With the heli loaded up with weapons and ammo, the players can outfit with the gear they want, look at the map, discuss strategies, etc. while they are flying into the insertion zone. Once they hit the ground they can get on with the mission instead of standing around at some convenient ammo crates in the middle of nowhere ;). Gives kind of a cinematic intro to the mission but also has a function other than reminding themselves of watching Black Hawk Down. -

How much space now? -
As will the price I'm sure. Though no prices have been released both the 5800s and the GT300s are 40nm tech being produced by TSMC. But the GT300 has 40% more transistors and a larger die so expect the cost of the GT300 to be quite a bit higher than the 5800s. How much will the performance be increased as a result? No one will know until they hit the stores. And it won't be coming out at the end of November. Nvidia stated a day or so ago that people will have to wait longer than expected. A few of the reviewers were estimating 1Q 2010 after talking to the nVidia people, even though they wouldn't say for sure.

You probably won't be saving much time as during the splash screen the game engine is loading. Your game engine will still need to be loaded regardless if you have the splash screens.

So are weapon loadouts saved when you die in v3.9?

Arma 2 & Core i7 Hyperthreading - Tested
BOTA:16 replied to choC's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Hyperthreading has rarely, if ever, been an improvement when it comes to gaming. With the P4's you could notice an improvement if you turned off HT in the BIOS for gaming. -
It seems though enemy AI always shoot over your head for the first couple. So here's a hint. Don't stand behind your teammate shooting at him. And yes AI do use the 203 to the point I would call it spam more than anything.

Why do people prefer Warfare over Superpowers or Civil War?
BOTA:16 replied to MasterChief096's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
I thought Superpowers and Civil War were Warfare? -
Make sure they are "grouped" using F2 and drag a line from each unit to the "group leader", select "Waypoints", click once on the group leader (should go bold), then doubleclick where to want the waypoint placed.

Same here. Nothing shows up when I get near the UAV Terminal. *EDIT*Got it to work. I was using the "UAV Terminal" from Warfare Buildings under "BLUFOR>>Class>>Warfare Buildings" instead of "EMPTY>>Class>>Warfare Buildings". Working now. Can you control the zoom of the camera? -

Check your CPU>GPU GPU<CPU bandwidth etc.
BOTA:16 replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
No idea what is good or not. SPECS Vista 32-bit Home Premium SP2 Radeon 4870 512MB Intel E8400 3.0GHz Auzentch Forte 7.1 4GB PC2-6400 Since my CPU->GPU is > than GPU->CPU, does that mean my GPU is a "bottleneck"? Also would it help to install Arma II on a 64-bit OS? I dual boot Windows 7 64-bit (as I have 4GB of RAM), would it improve performance being able to address more RAM?
