You guys think AA is OFP 1,5 engine, and only a step in the direction of the orginal sequel planned for mid 2006?
-
Its to much talking about graphics and screenshots. Granted it’s important but it’s not fundamental. When playing, yes I look at the screen, so what?  I want news revealing more of the new game engine, and net code and what are BIS doing to utilize dual core cpu on the server side. I want maps where a lot of ppl can share the greatness of OFP without lags and desync etc. For nice scenery and screens flip over to http://soldner.jowood.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33431 Mmm.. why did they turn in? Sloppy graphics maybe

Yesterday 10 guys and a couple of AI started out to liberate Everon "Bastige Island (Everon) V1.3", sadly we was defeated. After 4 hours the server [NoPryl] didn't respond any more, we may have pushed the OC to high. The server failed prime95 after 5 hours, when tested afterwards. Until then this was the closest I ever have been to feel, "yes this is done right". Once I sent my AI screening in front of me. Two min afterwards I followed and suddenly, where nothing should have been, I was surrounded by hostile solders. I wish peace and health to all the world, but playing this was very fun. Much closer to real combat compared to anything else I has been playing before. Salute to you bn880 for your solid work, this is an 9,5 out of 10 hopefully you will be around for long time to come. Don't miss this mission, best coop ever Regards Ps Ok I admit “I don't play Hexenkessel very ofen, so all players should maybe don't take my word to litterally.â€

This are from my mailing with Codemasters last week. "We will check with the programmers of our e-shop with regard to allowing you to order more than 20 games. Unfortunately supplies of the game are limited in Norway as we no longer manufacture the game." ...No longer manufacture the game? I'm sure they can do what ever they want, and when they want. Still I dont need to aplaude it. Please BIS can you find a another solution, and at least ensure that the game can be sold as long custemors ask for more? April thread: http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....0;st=15 Regards Ps "we wil check with the programmers..." ? What does it tell you about the quality of e-shop system? Never heard about meta data, configuration etc.

Thx [iT|Q], the maps are downloaded and placed on our server. We wil test some of them next thursday. Agree; the folks making the ECL templates are doing excelent work. We are never troubeled with ECL missions which have passed the beta stage and are made official. Salute to them. If the same quality wil pass over to the WGL missions, the WGL users has much to look forward to. Regards
-
Thx russin We wil try Iron horse, next event is medio november. Yes we was using 4.11 version. But as you, between lines, suggest we should maybe wait to 4.12 is official and reconsider maps in this contex. Until then its Iron horse. Thanks again. Regards

Last weekend we was 27 ppl at our 4 times in a year LAN party and played @wgl_05_airfield_bravo_v1.1.Abel.pbo at our server. Normaly we play ECL missions because they are made for league play and are of high quality. This time we wanted to use the WGL addon. We pikced Airfield Bravo from http://the-citadel.us/ and belived this was a missions with similar quality as the ECL maps. Well.. guess what, we found some bugs. With 27 ppl the missions was unplayable, and after our mortar team dismounted our truck the dreadfull ammo bug did occur. Our FX-53 barley did 3 fps. See picture We also noticed a briefing error. Notepad and mission plan for east is capped. When trying to post this on http://www.squadengine.com/forums/index.php?showforum=9 I recived error when trying to enter my email adress. ?? No way Q: Can anybody suggest Mp WGL missions for 30 ppl, with mortars that plays well and with no bonus bug Regards Ps: Sorry for the quality of the picture
-
I may be wrong, but I dont think there is a big point in acquiring 50 FPS in the lobby or for 3 or 4 ppl playing. My windows XP laptop give 50 FPS when used as server. Not the deddi but when using -server param. Our game server FX-53 normaly never goes over 32. My laptop is crap, the FX not. For old discussuons with topic this param http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....8;st=15 "Much smooter" and no placebo effect I guess

Based on your q, you seems to know how to start your server. If you only are a couple of ppl joining, then the most "admin like" of you logs in first and write -#vote admin 1 afterwards -#missions Then the admin can use the ofp gui to select missions, without waiting for the others to agree. For this you dont need any special server config file. You can start your regular OFP from an shortcut using -server as param. For more serious hosting, do as RN Malboeuf suggest.
-
May I suggest using mod folders before you start editing. If your only mod folder was WGL then you could ensure that the mission was build upon WGL and BIS addons only.
-
Thx for your reply Benu. Our dedi is based on Goty. We do not use -nomap as a parameter, when starting the server. Currently we use @wgl located in sep. mod folder. Mfcti1.16.pbo mod located in OperationFlashpoint\AddOns. Put NoPryl in your filter and you wil locate the server. Open from 18:00 - 06:00 CET. Every thursday from 21:00 CET we come togheter for fun and training 10 - 15 ppl. If I understand your info btw lines, we can try to put merged.pbo in OperationFlashpoint\Res\Dta. Anyway this may not be the biggest all time issue, so I guess we can manage without the addional cheat testing. By the way we dont ban people with modified res\dta.pbo or res\hwtl\data.pbo either. Because the server report this as modified files, also for people that 5 min before has copyed the files from the server over to his own PC. Strange? Thx again Benu Â
-
Sorry Benu but I don't know how to put your sign and date July 28 2004,09:50 after the Bold Quote and before the frame.Accordning to our servers flashpoint.cfg the statment: HW_Type="Direct3D HW T&L is in there. But never the less we are ending up with modified entrys for every statment we put in. The merged.pbo are now located in the default dir: ..\OperationFlashpoint\Res\Dta\Hwtl As I said before, the server running XP. After your post we deleted merged.pbo under res\addons, witch by the way did seem to work. Until we find a solution, we wil turn this checkfile options off. Have a nice summer. Regards
-
Hi; needed to place merged.pbo in t\Res\AddOns also for windows server. Flashpoint.cfg not cheked, dont know what to do there. Regards

Createvertexbuffer (static, seperate) failed...
Batstat replied to AntonVonE's topic in TROUBLESHOOTING
1) Go into your BIOS and check the AGP Aperture Size. If its 32 then try 64. If its 64 try 32 and 128. The 128 alternative I don't belive in and mirakels tend not to happen. But who knows. 2) Run some test on your ram. Download from http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp 3) Borrow a friends GPU, to try do nail down the hw involved. -
1. Whats your computer spec? 2. What does the the technical report say? 3. Does this only happen with ofp? - What others similary game has you installed succesfully on the same comp? Your desktop may indicate a lack of demanding games (lol). I you dont post more info, I doubt there wil be much help, sorry.

How far did you come? Do the error appear at zero time after launching or are you in the mid of cd 2? Also follow the suggestion to close all others windows prog. I think you startet mspaint to produce the "error send" picture. Anyway you dont need media player in the backgound. Also try to change to your newest cd-rom player if you have more than one. Read the faq at http://www.theavonlady.org/theofpfaq/ search for install If this is way off helping you then post more info about your spec and hit the "view technical information about the error report" - click here

How much do you need for makeing a good cti server
Batstat replied to Colossus's topic in MULTIPLAYER
Hi If its only for official CTI missions RAM beyond 512 will not matter. Buying a server  only for CTI seems little odd I think, but anyway. I agree with Killswitch, its impossible to get to much CPU, it seems. When the server is overloaded the AI enemy (server sided) get stupid, and the fun factor is lowered. But equally important as the CPU are your tweaking of the server. I don't know the Linux servers. But for XP i have found: 1.Stop all not important services. XP starts up with default about 35 services. This could be stripped down to 5 or 6. You don't use your OFP server for print spooling. The running services you have left is your servers background jobs. This is why I continue with nr 2. 2.Use regedit and give foreground application max pri. Change the thread setting to use max time in CPU. Also change it to be fixed time in CPU. Now you have given pri to the foreground process OFPR-server, and told the system to give this the maximum of resources. IF OFPR-server is running in the background then it has to compete with 5 or 6 others thread, because you cant stop all the services. 3.Give the OFPR-server high priority (ctrl-shift-esc), under the Processes tab. End all others foreground application, use HW firewall etc. 4.Be sure to unload burden from CPU and over to NIC 5.You also want to consider if it can be useful to tell XP that it newer shall swap important kernel things to page file. We have done it and we are not able to monitor any down side, regarding to our use. Important, don't do this if your server has less than 256 RAM. 6.This don't aply to your use (CTI has max 18 players), but if you want to play others missions with more players and you are using XP pro, then you should alter the maximum concurrent TCP/IP connections that can be used in the same time. For server OS, as 2003 this are already taken care of. I think XP pro's default are about 15 – 24. You use 1KB RAM for each. 7. Etc etc but 1 – 2 I think is the most importantet. Our P4 2,4 with 400FSB was 3 – 7 times faster after 1 month with tweaking and testing. I modified a DM mission to use as a test monitor mission. Where all should follow the hint text on screen. Today I will suggest the ECL lagtest mission.  Our P4 don't utilize 90% 100% of the cpu before we reach 13 – 14 users in our DM test missions. Pick the right CTI mission, MFCTI1.15Everon is less demanding in many respect than the older missions. Regards and have fun -
Which would you most like to see improved/added
Batstat replied to Montanaro's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I voted for the ability to shoot multiple guns out of a vehicle. Mostly because it will offer a more including game or play style. Also I want to add to the list the ability to use HT, multiple CPU or the Nirvana multiple dedicated server in one game (linked togheter in a OFP II server packâ€farmâ€), handling tons of people i one game. Or if you don't want tons of people then you can use your extra CPU power to turn on terrain damage, burning forest and so on. With OPF1 you can turn on or off features in the client, the same ability on the server is more restriced. It's there but mostly for the tweak geeks. IF OFP II sells as OPF I and continue to live on for years, then it doesn't matter if some option cant be used with todays computer. So BIS don't restrict yourself to whats possible with the avg computer, please. The same goes for the bandwith issue. If people use LAN, then let the players benefit from it, give them more bandwith consuming option too turn on. -
If you use regedit, you can save your key containg the path to your C to some filename.reg. Install OFP on a new drive, save this key. Use another name for the reg file. Then before you start playing you have to click on the correct reg file first. I have't done any in this myself. If you want to make sure you dont corupt your C OFP I suggest you zip the content to a backup file first. Why; because I not sure OPP dont remove or change any of the first file when installing a new instance. Then you can switch between your different OFP setup. But you are using up some disk storage this way. That you allready know beforhand. Cheers.

I tested some of the mission Jyka suggested for my self. Playing MP alone on a laptop, on battery on the train, is not the all time biggest hit. Surely this missions has a lot of quality and has to be shared with the others (my opinion) Tanks Certa for your suggestion, we wil do that. Keep up your brilliant work.

In mid sep we was 29 ppl playing CTI in a lan. Normaly the ping there is between 8 - 18. After 40 min nearly 80% of the players had a desync reporting 100 000. No one had higher so I guess OFP stop reporting higer desync. We had to stop the game (no suprise . So low ping dont seucre your evening I think.

They all depend uppon @ddons Why is that a problem? Our web server was down on our last LAN party, and it was a pain in the ... to distribute 108MB with mods. In the same time to explain how to use mod folders. Not all addons seems to like to be placed in mod folders. Last I checked I was unable to place Smith & Wesson Revolvers in mod folder witout an error message. Our group want the next event to happen without delay and fuzz, and I'm afraid it wil be without addons. But thanks anyway.

Where can I find quality missions with realistic a/d settings?

Tim Sweeney www.epicgames.com wrote this article http://unreal.epicgames.com/Network.htm about Unreal Networking Archtecture 07/21/99. Its very informative and good reading for all that are reshearcing topics about netcode desync lag and etc. In spite of the effort Epic has put in the netcode, the following link http://www.planetunreal.com/features/ut2004trip/ shows a world with some limitations and problems. Search the article for netcode How does the speed of light impact your ping, you may wonder. Read http://www.kaillera.com/faq.php#6 its funny and intresting. If you want some heavy techincal stuff read http://www.cg.tuwien.ac.at/~sid/cescg/#343 It's about PARSEC. Parsec is a non-commercial network space-shooter that started out in 1996 as a lab project at the Vienna University of Technology Quake’s 3-D Engine:  The Big Picture by Michael Abrash is located at http://www.bluesnews.com/abrash/chap70.shtml Don't bee fooled by the articles headline, most of it is about netcode. Conlusions: The future is not easy to predict, but there may take som time before we can conclude upon; Yes reached "The holy gral" or multiplayers Nirvana. The industri works hard to meet the customers requeriment for high level of detail, realism, without lag and with lots og people playing mulitplayer games. May the force be with them.

Is it possible to isolate the music to one player
Batstat posted a topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Is it possible to isolate the music to one player or to the inside of a tank, car etc. When you use triggers and effect I observe that the sound stick to one place, and that you also get doppler effect when passing by. But I want to play T.Rex when one player enter the tank, but oney for the player inside the tank. Also I have found some music I want to add when you die, and are waiting to respawn. Is this possible? OK I now this topic are a "no no thing" in must cases, but on LAN it does not matter that the files size up a little bit. Regards Řyvind
