Missions criterias to pass to ensure quality
Batstat replied to Batstat's topic in ARMA - USER MISSIONS
Hi, Good points Orlok, when I think about grand scale or long lasting games your list is well thought through. I updated the first post with your remark about Cutscenes. Your nr 3. Sudden Death Zones, I also agree on, but with my limited experience I haven’t seen many missions who fail with your criteria. Same goes for nr 4. I also agree with your number 5b “Don't overwhelm players with floods of enemy forces in one place. It's much nicer to get involved with a number of short, intense firefights, rather than a 3 hour turkey shoot.†But I also recognize this as a controversial statement, where I bleive the community will divide in at least two factions. One loving this kind of missions, and one hating them, and a group between who plays them both for the sake of variation. I have tried to reduce the list too what NOT to do, but your point 5a is very good. "5.Give the player a chance to use tactics/vehicles etc!" Not sure where it belongs and it is difficult to be precise in how this should impact the mission design. Not so difficult to review and make up an opinion regarding if the mission maker has succeeded or not. Hard to design, easy to review. Your point 2, is covered under loadout, but you expressed the sentence better Regards -
Missions criterias to pass to ensure quality
Batstat replied to Batstat's topic in ARMA - USER MISSIONS
NoPryl have reviewed some missions based on the criterias above. Link: http://www.nopryl.com/phpnuke....start=0 Sure not all ppl will agree upon the criterias, else there would not have been so many missions that fail many of them. Snippets to ensure you can choose from all weapon in the game, is considered cool by many. In my opinion it's ok for testing purpose, else not, I dont like to wait 5 min before all are ready do go, with super weapons from the other side, and where you can't find any more ammo in the mission. If we finish reviewing one day, we will provide a link over the missions we have approved. A discussion about criterias who recognise a lousy mission is maybe easier to discuss than the opposite. Criterias who define a good mission tend to take away the creativity. -
With xp sp2 I still get this error with 1.08, if I don't use -maxmem parameter. I have choosed, the new 1.08 option, default under advanced texture. Gpu is gtx8800

We (NoPryl) played all your maps this weekend at our lan party GSL2007 and wow what a laught we had  . We tried to find maps we could purge from the server, but did not succeed. 7 ppl playing the Ranch was hilarious fun. Â

Salute ])a)( “Someone†is taken with the underwear down here, as I understand. Why is credit so hard to give? Is there any chance that the creator of Battlefield1985 ])a)( Clan of Dukes, will make new missions for ARMA?

New technology do not normally jump start a new eon. It may surpass the old technology many times and in many ways. New technology will at the first glance be promising, and people will look at it and they will get ideas in different ways that will improve xyz... People have to adapt the new technology, they need time to learn it. Before they truly can out compete the last and best products from the previous technology. The last games for C64, was truly amazing. Programmers did twist every bit of juice out of the machines, and in ways the HW and SW not was buildt or designed for. Games was still released for DOS long after windows and DirectX was released, etc. In danger to ruin my point (people do not have to agree with me) It will take time before missions can outshine the last missions made for OFP, when they was based on WGL, BAS, DAC and others amazing addons and scripts, made by skilled programmers who knew the OFP nitty gritty stuff, and not so skilled programmers who could use others concepts and works. Co 8 On His Majesty's Service v1.2 Score 2/6 Pro Pluss for the agent 00N theme Con Big minus for AI behavior, mostly they are not aware of each other dying all over the place. With 1.05 and the chosen AI implementation, this is urban target practicing. Can be fun once, not twice.

Hi Feedback for Co 8 Insurgents v1.2 witch I played yesterday. Great mission, but it can be made one or two tick harder, in my opinion. If you savage the M24 rifle, and go up the hill west for the US camp, then you got the low sun in the back and can snipe out the entire US squad, singel handed. It's a very obvious approach and can be repeated several times, with close to 100% sucsess for each try. [Edit] Can also be done with ak47, if you are provided with enough ammo. Should be adressed. Â Assault on the convoy is to easy too. Depends on whom the target players are, beginner, intermediate or hardcore. Â Maybe give the US som more armor, men at foot patroling, or reduce the number of RPG's from 8 to 2. For the last phase: Maybe change the civ to east soliders, then the history may be more plausible -< no big deal. PS: I hope I got the direction right. Regards Batstat

Nice missions but the post belongs in the OFP user mission forum, I was not able to find any ARMA missions. I admitt I did not check them all.
-
In my opinion DAC is one of the greatest achievement to the OFP community ever. A tool helping mission makers to create awesome missions. There are GB of addons out there with new textures, weapons etc, but in no way there are the same amount of good missions. Silola with his DAC has contributed a lot to adress this issue. Last post about ARMA and DAC was in 2006, is there any news you can share with us in this respect Silola? Any way great work, and please keep it up.

There may be some bug involved here. People not able to connect using the build in browser are able to connect if they use Kegetys' ArmA Launcher. if the workaround work for all clan members and regular visitors, we have found a workaround we can live with. The issue still need attention/inspection from BIS. Hopefully the strange beahvoure will be adressed in a future improvment.

Hi, Our NoPryl server is installed with the German CD, uppgradet to 1.02, modified with 6thSense language installer. Server stopped, backup files from PatchWise.bak copied over to Arma root dir, Arma_InternationalUpdate105 applied. Server started. Result: Only one person in the clan can connect to the server. He also can play on all other servers. He has done a clean install, and did not use files from PatchWise.bak. He has the german CD version, so he can do his reinstall when ever he wants. Me and NoBrainer can connect to the server and play when we use VPN, else not. We all can connect to other servers and play. NoBrainers has also done a clean reinstall, without using 6thSense language installer. We plan to do a Clean server install and then upgrade, but we do not understand why this hassel arise. Any who has the same problem, and solved the issue? Kind regards Batstat

I also hope BIS put in the password feature from OFP. If the server is without password, it should accept any password. So next time you protect the server with the clan password, clan members can enter straigt ahead. When you remove the password, players are not forced to do anything before they reenter. Not a important issue, just a small ting. Regards

Problem patching german download version
Batstat replied to Renegade87's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I use the german physical CD version. Installed ARMA on my game rig, patched 1.01 then 1.02 all ok. Patch files was unzipped with built in XP zip. Copied my patch file to a CD. Installed ARMA on NoPryls game server. Unzipped the patch file after copying them from my CD to the HDD, with XP build in unzip. Patched 1.01 ok Patched 1.02 the error struck. I pressed Ignor to let the patch process finish. The error msg was the same as mention several times in earlier posts. Did a unistall Did a install Patched 1.01 OK Backed 1.01 files up in a seperate folder. Applied 1.02 patch - and then the error struck. I choosed to press the abort button. Copied back the ca.pbo file(s), both to be sure. Downloadet a new version of the 1.02 patch from morphicon.de. Came back after 30min, in the meantime I browsed this forum. Download monitor windows was gone, did a reset - boot. (I did not switch off the power "hard reset") Unpaked the patch with latest winrar (no error - unpacking) But the patch.exe file reported it was corrupted. Why this did happend I don't know, since the download window was closed. But it could have been a timeout error? Copied my old 1.02 patch in, used winrar (first time I used XP built in inzip), unpacked the patch file. I started the patch - but no LUCK. My Arma version is the CD version, and this prove that the problem do apply to both version CD & DL. Both XP versions is 32bit. The HW is pretty new, no OC and quality RAM from OCZ. So no deddy from NoPryl yet. -
I have noticed the same lack of crossfire driver gameprofile support. Try to rename the exe to fear.exe or another title ATI has made a crossfire profile for. I'm not able to test it on my own rig before tomorrow. Cheers.

Witch prove that you not are able to utilize 4 cpu, I suppose. Do to the more complicated memory handling etc your configuration perform less than if you had used 1 core, I belive.

I has used Steam since HL2, zero problems whatsoever. A far bigger problem is my kids wrecking my cd's. I also has lost count of how many times one or more in our lan gatherings had to reinstall OFP, with the cd's and cd key at home or lost som other places. Steam got my vote.

I do not know, for sure you did not try to enlighten sombody. You tried to share ppl up maybe, with your humor. I then assume that BIS has not choosen any 3. part game physic engine then, if nobody are able to point to any offical source. Yes I have searched BIS site, VBS, this forum and all threads, ODE and general google search. I still could have failed to find it.
-
Only place I can find this information is here, where is the official information that state that BIS has choosed Open Dynamics Engine, and where would they use it and to what extent? Sorry if I'm missing the obvious here?

As I remebered Falcon4 and bubbels: It did not only affect 3D rendring, but also as you say the mode the sim was calculated in. Inside the bubbel, all the bullets and rockets etc was calculated according to the law of physics. Outside the bubbel Falcon4 used  "role playing dice" to decide the battel outcome. Your score inside the bubbel was a param to the outside "dice" outcome. This way Falcon4 was enable to simulate battels with a high numbers of units. In the config you was abel to adjust the size of the bubbel. A pity Hasbro decided not to continue the work. I think 6 players was the records in MP, how the playbility in MP was I don't now (I did't try it). Thanks to G** BIS don't longer live under the mercy of an puplisher.

Yeah 300 Euro is a lot of money. I tried to google for the price of firct 3dFX voodoo cards, but did not find it for sure. I was not among the first to buy it either. But I think the first 3D GPU cards was pretty expensive also. If the PPU chip become reasonable popular, the price wil drop fast. If ATI and Nvida also se this as a new marked it wil drop faster. The fact that the SDK help out using more than one CPU, wil maybe push dev teams to use it. How many among us, was happy with software rendring, we wantet the real thing. I'm not quit sure about the multiprocesing part and using the SDK. Maybe you have the use the chip also, to utilize the multiprocessing part. The white papers are not crystal clear in all aspect.

Hopefully the waiting are soon over. To sucseed Ageia only need one good game to sell a lot. Then all gamers wil blow the brain out, and scream for more. The ball wil start rolling. In OFP there are a lot of gas station scattered around. Think of it, you break the tank, gasoline wil flow out, following the terrain! Then you ignite it, he he. Hopefully people stop doing this in real life when they can simulate it ingames. Maybe Moors law stil wil came true, measured in game realisme. Â

I hope u are wrong, this wil boost the gaming experince beyond our wildest dream. If needet I wil eat bread, drink water for a month to save moeny for this chip. Finaly somthing worty to spend money on http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/03/08/news_6119896.html OK "If .. has its way", Sweeney is not sure he either. But look at the image on Ageia home site: You can't do this realtime and ingame. Maybe if you drive your car by your self and in real life The SDK utilize multiprocessing system. Acording to my memory BIS has not promised support for multiprocessing system yet, so the dev team get this also for "free". Anyway and sadly, for OFPII I can't see how BIS could switch to use this PPU now. Its to late in the dev cycle I think. I'm already looking forward to OFPIV Â
