Microsoft releases Vista Performance Fix Packs
Bunkers replied to tjm397's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I've read reports from beta testers on the upcoming Vista SP1 that it makes Vista "less likely to chrash in games" (roughly translated from norwegian web-page). Anyone got any more info on the promises of this highly anticipated Service Pack? -
I wouldnt recommend buying 8800 if ur priority is to play Arma. For most other games it's top of the line though. I have 8800GTX now, but had a much more playable experience on my old rig with a 7900 card. The difference in fog is well documented, i.e. in the pix from the thread-starter. Then there's the frequent ctd's. Anyone know when the next high-end nvidia card is released? That's my biggest hope for a solution atm.
-
Is this thread quiet because ppl dont have the issue anymore or because they're tired of complaining about it? Am I the only one who've tried all the -maxmen -nosplash -world=empty & pagefile fix and still have this problem? Argh.. I play alot of games, like AmericasArmy and FSX, but this only happens in ArmA ..which is the game I like the most.

The simple reason why evolution is totally dominant atm is that it's the map most ppl want to play. I've been annoyed myself from time to time when MY type of missions isnt common on the servers. That changes and varies through time. However, I must say I've never seen a mission take the scene so completely as evo does. It's kinda strange. Lucky for me though, I find it entertaining. If a DM ever gets this popular I'll go totally Â

oh no! Is any1 at all getting the server list?
-
I had this problem. I downloaded the zip several times from different mirrors, and on the fifth or sixth try it finally worked. All the previous ones were corrupt. So my advice would be to keep trying different mirrors.

Yeah no doubt. Â The date on the patch file is June 6th, so they had six days to test the patch. Â Doesn't look like it was properly tested. Â I do question the competence of the BI testers. Â The public betas were better than this it seems. The "miracle" did happen! Not only did I get the splash intro, I've played multiplayer without any serious issue for 30 minutes now A bit early to conclude anything on my part, but I'm surprised I've got this far at all. Thumbs up!

Wow, reading this thread sure was depressing I'm installing the update now, on a 505 DVD english version, running on Vista with 8800GTX gfx... so I guess if I even get to see the splash intro it will be a miracle

Ok, just want to add a couple more issues I've had. I get CTD's more often with the beta patch than before, and when I press esc to bring up map and options the game sometimes freeze. This plus LOD problems and lower fps sums up the troubles I've had. E6600 2GB RAM 8800GTX Vista 32bit
-
Thank you, Dwarden. It works now. However I'm getting LOD issues and lower fps than I did in my original 1.5. Quite alot of both. On the plus side is the viewdistance which seems to help on the "white fog" issue.
-
How do you get this patch to run with the FDF sound mod?
-
Damn you and your 8800. I gotta live with crappy 7600GT atleast a year, because i promised to my wife i don't buy anything related to computers during that time. Â HEY! Don't say that. Those of us who have bought the "greatest" gfx card on the market are suffering right now. ArmA doesnt run great on the 8800's. We've put alot of money into this and end up like suckers. All we want is our beloved game to run smooth.

White "fog" even with high viewdistance (8800GTX)
Bunkers replied to snake22000's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Do we know if the problem is properly reported to NVIDIA? Do we know that THEY know? -
Any 8800GTX users that do NOT have the "white fog" issue? I have not seen screens yet without it. Regarding LOD issues it seems I can avoid them by lovering the details to normal. That's not satisfactory, but it enables me to play the game.
-
Just wanted to say that the FDF sounds brought this game to the next level for me. Sure it's not perfect, but it's really good. The M16 sounds so good now that I'm selecting servers/missions where I can use it
-
Oh my .... I havent seen this be4 now Cant wait to try it! Why am I at work now??
-
I give my kudos to BIS for implementing the grass overlay. Ofcourse it's hard to make a feature like hiding in the grass truly realistic but I think they've done a descent job here.
-
I reinstalled the game today and patched it to 1.05 and now I've got the same thing. Any server I try to join I get "connection failed" Â EDIT: Hey I think I solved it. I right click and choose "run as administrator" and it works again. Only issue is I have to use task manager to quit the game now, but that's a minor issue.

White "fog" even with high viewdistance (8800GTX)
Bunkers replied to snake22000's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Nice comparison photo there Oswald. Illustrates the problem really well. With so many ppl reporting this problem now I bet BIS must be looking into it. -
Have you tried adding -maxmem=512 in your ArmA shortcut? I used to crash any time i pressed join, but not after I added that parameter.
-
Yeah this helped alot for me to now I can at least play the game. 1 down 2 to go (still got LOD issues and white fog). Thx for the fix!

Bunkers replied to snake22000's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Well, seems like you guys can still make screenshots of your problems. I cant even join a multiplayer game no more to watch my white fog. My game crash any time between I press join to the game actually starts. E6600 2GB 800mhz 8800GTX 101.41 Vista home premium 32bit -
If you guys have the 8800 series GPU this is quite a common problem. I hope this is a problem BIS is working with. I had much less of it on my old system.

Welcome to the "8800-misery-club" I would not recommend ArmA players to buy those cards at the moment. Lots of issues.
