anyways.. @Dragonfly mm how abt you try dual booting your system? You need not reformat your entire hard drive too if you had your hd partitioned beforehand. Hope that helps im drunk.

The green icon is a new feature for Arma... speeds things up a bit imho. But i totally get what you mean about the non-sensical situation it has now. cheers.
-
yep... probably a lot of CTDs happen because of sound-related issues too (fire rockets, CTD. Car explodes, CTD. Sniper rifle fires, CTD. etc.) imho the sound engineer didnt do a good job for the game engine. Not that i can do any better...

@ CGman/mr. GC (ive no idea.) Have you actually ever tried programming or anything like that? Its not easy at all and add that to the fact that some people swear that the patch has improved ArmA by a fold or two and their computer runs it better now while others are on the other side of the river.... it's just nuts! It's all seemingly random so either help us identify the problem or... you know... something else. Have you tweaked your Arma yet? btw yeah i do get CTDs for no apparent reason too...

AoD, you really gotta stop being so bitter. Its bad karma. @ Overdosed. The "Where are you" reply key has been the biggest mysteries for OFP since day one. There's no way to answer that but a workaround could be selecting the bugger who asked and clicking the ground infront of you.... so he'll trot over and, after seeing angry you with your arms folded across your chest, then you may carry on.

nvm... i took 5 minutes to test it out. Result - It can be done! Below are some screenies. What i did was transfer a few M4s and an MG from an ammo crate, some 50 metres away, into the car. Its just a matter of pressing G on the car then double clicking the weapon you want to drop into the vehicle. Tadah... switched guns. Hope that helps a few people. The green icon thingy isnt a bug.

havent tried it yet but is it possible in ArmA to load vehicles with ammo and guns like resistance allowed us to?
-
It'll also be nice to know what are the specs of their testing rigs. Do they even have a hyperthreaded or dual core processor there? What about an 8800 card? And also, how did they carry out their tests? e.g. playing a few missions and the editor or simply letting it run on main menu and consider that as a "test".

The BI crew are probably taking some time off after working very hard on the new patch... give them a day or two to rest. But i guess this doesnt mean they're ignoring us or anything.... try doing something bad on the forums and a moderator will come out of the shadows. If anything, they're reading all/most of our complains.

Great idea... but for the initial part of releases at least. Because in the long run the number of seeders and peers will diminish and its back to square one again.... and that's when the mirrors should be available. Wow... hanging around these forums for the past couple of days have made me feel like i'm watching something big unfolding in the news....
-
BIS is a small company compared to big shots like EA or Ubisoft. I guess they dont have the budget to provide as much mirrors as US companies. Try the torrents... i'm downloading at 100kb/s now. I wonder why Fileplanet doesnt have any ArmA updates at all... only the demo. Their IGN download manager is fast even if you dont have a membership account.

Im here to report that all FTP servers arrrreeee.... DOWN! Thank you please come again. lol downloading the torrent itself is already so difficult.... but.. patience.... EDIT: Hey Matt.. how about after you've had your fill of the new patch, go over to the "1.05 Patch impressions" thread and tell us whats new and stuff. Help us survive the wait!

One hour left till March the 2nd is over, according to the forum's timing. I think i'm having a lot of fun pressing F5 on the Arma Homepage.
-
oh snap. That explains everything. Thanks for clarifying!

Think about all the other people who dont have Usenet (w/e it is) in their countries.

Good job on the iron sights! No more motion sickness for the most of us... I was wondering if this could be implemented into vehicles as well. Many of times its just difficult to control a humvee or tank because it seems as though the driver has his neck braced to the vehicle itself. It's very stiff. Off-road driving can be very disorienting at times. I think if we could have a sort of "bounciness" to the driver's view then maybe vehicle control might be easier. The immersion value might increase by a bit too. As of now i dont think anyone could ride the motorbikes in first person view. Difficult if 3rd person view has been disabled.

IT'S MARCH THE 2ND!!!!! WOOHOO!!! It's a big day for the ArmA community (if all goes well) so lets celebrate over the net! ... somehow... ps. sorry for spamming.

how did you guys get so far? It seems like i could only have one save and that's it. I start off after getting the uniforms, and after that, take a bike to the town of masbete. Once the fighting starts i take a save. In the scene after that, where we have to capture the airfield, i cant save anymore. The AI is already equipped with heat-seeking vision as it is and all these loading from wayyy back in the scene is frustrating. Do you guys get this one-intentional-save-only thing too?
-
chill man chill... try restarting the mission and do it again. It's still in the beginning part of the mission anyways. good luck.

A script! An AI script! Am i correct?

ah yes the SAW machinegun..... no other gun beats this baby's curtain of lead... and it's superb accuracy and stability! ... which of course many people (including me) have exploited and ruined the game for everyone. I once had a round during the CTF demo and was getting petty-shot by an ak74. I got shot in the leg, dropped down, turned around to where the tracers were coming from and sprayed in that general direction. Needless to say that fella went down despite being all the way at the other end of the desert (about 200 - 300 metres) and he texted, "Nice one." I felt almost guilty because the gun itself has a very tight grouping even at that range. Add that to 200 rounds, in prone position, and you have a mini vulcan. I hope someone would tweak the SAW to even out the gameplay a little (the M240 feels more right, btw). As of now i avoid picking up an AK74 because the recoil on that thing is tremendous.

IRL, when guns go bang, they're normally more like a slap/crack... even for the firer. And from 50 metres away they sound more like a hammer and the dull crack sends a little thump through your chest. Well at least that's my experience with the M16A1 during my school days. The explosions in Arma are nice... its just that mega-2d-picture-flipping fire that appears on the vehicle that bugs me. Its's like Sweetooth in Twisted Metal 2.

BUY THE GAME ALREADY! patch 1.05 wil be coming out soon and, pray to God, it'll give a huge performance boost (despite the tweaks i did all over the game files, i cant play with shadows on low and still stuck on low textures and very low shading on my 6600gt.) Arma has a very strong grip on MP and i enjoyed the demo a lot... you meet lots of strange people online. The new interface is much more user friendly in-game with all that green icons now too. Still.. personally i feel something lacking in the atmosphere compared to OFP. Maybe its because when OFP came out we were still... virgins... to this type of gameplay so that oculd be a contributing factor to the experience. btw someone said BF's netcode was solid.. well... from what ive experienced EA has very terrible netcoding skills. (and the patches for 2142... eee...) Anyways, get Arma, man... and we'll see you online! Now to get my hands on a retail copy... Arma's not out in Asia yet. EDIT- typo.

Hi all.. i'm having a bit of a problem here. In ArmA, I cannot hear any music at all but all gunfire, explosions and vehicle sounds are audible. Even at the main menu of ArmA there is no music. However i noticed its not the game's problem but something in my comp since i loaded up the TMNT Demo and found that all other audio was working except the music part... even during the Ubisoft ident. Could anyone help me identify the problem? Thanks.
-
Thanks for the quick reply... .. but this prob happened before the installation of TMNT. I only realised it really wasnt a problem with ArmA only after installing that turtle demo.
