http://checkip.dyndns.org:8245/ IP is basically the home address of your PC. Every PC has one, when connected to the internet. That's how all the servers and such know where to send the info. IF you give them the correct IP and they can't join, your firewall might be blocking them. In that case, try opening few ports from the settings.

Let's see... English is an official language in 68 countries (30 for French), and has rougly 350 million native speakers (around 70-80 million for French). Plus about double that as a secondary language. Plus around 89% of schoolchildren in EU study English. about 32% study French.
-
Yeah, I recall a tad unfinished (dunno, haven't used it many times) "box" SWAT van in the Ocean Island pack. That suburban really still private?
-
Just as a sidenote for those who might not know it, Arabic and Farsi (Persian) are two totally different languages. Farsi is actually part of the Indo-European language family, so it might be easier to learn. Dunno, haven't started yet.
-
In order of learning... also pretty much how well I know the languages. 2 first... well, native Finnish and you are free to judge my English, the rest... basic understanding. Finnish English German Swedish French Planning to revise the last 3 a bit, and start learning Russian, Farsi, maybe Arabic and i.e Spanish soon-ish.

Well... 7.62 NATO has scored a sniper kill at 1.2 km, that ought to tell you something about the capability. For a DMR level rifle, basically a semi-automatic sniper rifle, in the caliber, the effective range is somewhere between 500 to 800 meters, in other words rougly twice that of the 7.62x39mm shot from a normal gun using it. Both rounds are fairly heavy at around respectable 8.0 and 9.5 grams (123 and 147 grains). Muzzle energies are rougly 2.0 and 3.3 kilojoules (62 grains and 1.7 kJ for 5.56 NATO, mid-lenght barrel?). The terminal effiency is defined by the amount of energy transferred to the target material; the bigger the bullet, the more area it will hit unless it fragments, expands or tumbles. Thus bigger rounds are more likely to have an increased stopping effect due to the faster rate and bigger amount of energy that is transferred. to the tissue. The ballistics themselves are defined by bullet shape (drag), somewhat material (stability), weight (stability, less wind drift on denser rounds), barrel lenght and twistrate, and amount and type of propellant (i.e. gunpowder) used. Also quality of both gun and bullets matter, and the bullet has to go the right way to hit something. Again, down to the shooter. One reasons for the Finnish AKs accuracy are their tighter tolerances and new sights. The rear sights are mounted on the cover "lid", near the start of the buttstock. They're fairly similar to the ones used on M16. This MP.net thread has some info on AKs.

Real Life Photography/Photo Editing II - NO IMAGES >100kb
BlackScorpion replied to Major Fubar's topic in OFFTOPIC
Well, actually I got an idea since I've spent the last 5 years in similar lighting, and have taken few shots... but yeah, it ain't very good. -
Real Life Photography/Photo Editing II - NO IMAGES >100kb
BlackScorpion replied to Major Fubar's topic in OFFTOPIC
Hmmmm... thought I'd need to keep the f-number a tad higher to avoid "concentration", in other words, blur around the focus point. And well, I doubt noise will have much effect on a pic printed in about a postcard size or less and in B&W. -

Somehow the 2nd pic had a "dwarf" effect on me... should be the reverse but suddenly my brains switched to thinking your friend was "dwarved". Very nice pics. Also grats for Sniper for having such great stuff to photograph (with good results ) and cheers for Tovarish for the tutorial. Any tips for taking a group shot of about 15-20 people with the EOS 400D kit lense, btw? Classroom or possibly outside, dunno... -
Read the AK topic forward - very nice stuff. Crossquoting here... Well... then post it in the other post that I've seen you in!!! Try to clarify if that's out of 93:100 or 93:1000 would you??? 93 out of hundred. But I remembered it wrong, one third of fresh, basic trained recruits at 150 m shooting at a target with a 10 cm bullseye. 10 rounds. AKM is also lighter unloaded than an M16, btw... not that it matters. While I might in most cases choose an AK variant over an M16 variant, should I be given a choise... judging by what I've read, I'd propably go for a HK416/417 rifle. Or AA-12 shotgun... everybody who knows that gun and doesn't have a ballistic vest, propably fears it. Maybe I'll come back after my 6-12 months in FDF and possibly 6-12 months in Afghanistan...

Nah... I just quickly eyed through them, thought that I'd give 'em a full go later... now you certainly got my interest, though. Is that a rechambered Rk.76 on the right in the lineup pic, btw? And... as said, depends on the user. Also on the rifle, though. AK's have been manufactured for 60 years. About 90-100 million rifles, possibly a lot more. 60 years of re-designing for both the rifle, about 5 years more for the ammunition. Alot to choose from. AP, tracer, corrosive or non-corrosive... feel free to choose. You just need a mounting rail to put on optics, AFAIK... every rifle can be modified. Finnish spotters have Rk. 95 rifles with ACOGs mounted on them, as far as I know. Not impressive enough, psychologically? Well, shoot that double-barrel out to that 100 m and past, then. Almost every guy who'd have reason to be really afraid (actually counting as enemies) uses the same friggin' thing. How effective is M16 or M4 then? The thing was designed to close-range battles, out to about 250-400 metres. Muzzle energy is about 1900-2000 Joules for normal ammunition on the 7.62x39 mm caliber, M16 series by comparison has about 60-70% of that. Must have nice effect on the other end, I suppose you know very well.

About the loudness of breathing... maybe it's to help you judge the cycle? After all, you don't have the muscles ingame... only way you'll know it is either by looking or listening. And I guess by listening, it's easier to get the cycle, atleast if you've just moved your sights. And as a sidenote, even though it has it's own topic... Finnish recruits repeatedly score an average of 93 points in their shooting training at 300 or 350 metres with AK-based weapons firing 7.62x39mm ammunition.

Get FDF and most related content, BAS Littlebirds (or well... all of the up-to-date BAS stuff) and go play at OFP.INFO or CiA coop nights. CiA topic and info is at the OFP MP thread, OFP.INFO info at their site which is the same URL.

I, myself haven't answered the poll yet. Nor have I done any military service so far (still 17). Judging by my thoughts and some of the answers so far, I'd propably got somewhere between the others besides number 1. Should I be a soldier, defending my country and my life (also Finnish) against an aggressor obviously trying to kill me, I'd propably defend myself. Natural defence mechanism, I suppose. My grandparents did it. I love my country, like them. Why can't I? Few quotes. "Si vis pacem, para bellum" - Publius Flavius Vegetius Renatus. Reflects the attitude of i.e. FDF and Swiss army. Invade us, pay for it. "The only crime is murder. The others... are just pranks or amusement." - Alfred Hitchcock. Partially in response to Vilas' comment earlier. And one that reflects my own point of view... adaption of Shakespeare. "To be killed, or to be killed". Brought up in i.e. Rustman's post and earlier, and reflects modern warfare, atleast from my point of view. Refuse to work for the insurgents... get killed by them. Work for them and become one... get killed by the invading forces. I'll be doing my FDF service in few years. Maybe it's easier to comment then. Not sure, but will propably apply for Rapid Deployment Force and/or UN peacekeeper service, meaning that I might get posted to Afghanistan, Lebanon or Kosovo for few years. Though I know a fair bit about military compared to my friends at school, I still consider myself as a pacifist. If I'd see the kids planting an IED... I have no idea what I'd do in a real situation. But I hope it'd go something like shouting, warning shots and speaking to them, maybe taking them to some sort of "custody". I'd propably run after them if they'd go running, instead of starting to plink them with my Rk. I'm not going there to kill people or to get killed, but to basically, help people. Even though not everybody "agrees" with it - we lost one peacekeeper in Afghanistan this week. He was part of Finnish-Norwegian team going on patrol, and escorting a Norwegian doctor. As usual, they just walked through the streets and market place without their helmets on, but with them, and wearing ballistic torso protection. IED went off about 2 metres from him. RIP. But then again, knowing all that has happened in the past... I don't trust human nature. "Imagine"-like system or perfect communism with some variation would be ideal but... just doesn't work. People are too competitive, and partially, err ("to error") too much. Given the certain circumstances, most people will propably do almost anything to survive. I tend not to pick up a whole group of people and make an opinion. SS, NKVD, LRA, IRA, Al Qaida... yes, evil "organisations". But I doubt all were that evil. Some were forced to join. Some joined not due to the idealogy, but because of either the fighting, or the training. This especially applies partially to SS, since AFAIK, Lauri Törni (Larry Thorne) wasn't a pro-Nazi. Yet he served in SS, received an Iron Cross... and got bored and came back to Finland for LRRP duties. After 1944 peace, he went back to Germany, and eventually got captured by British forces, and later escaped the POW camp. He came back to Finland, got arrested later released, and then he headed off to USA, landing illegally. He joined US Army and died in Vietnam in 1965, part of the Green Berets. The John Wayne character in the movie is supposed to be based on Törni. Erwin Rommel is said to have managed to capture 2000-8000 Italians with only 100-300 men (Wiki states 300 men and 4000 total enemies), none lost and 132 Italians killed, in the Battle of Caporetto when capturing Monte Matajur. He escorted them to prison camps with only 2 men, they say. In other words... I'd rather capture an enemy as a POW than kill him. Too bad that OFP or ArmA doesn't reflect it... nor suppressive fire, mostly, in their basic editions. There are quite a few instances where people have surrendered but have not been taken as POW. Eastern front and Pacific during WWII, many civil wars, Kosovo, and some hostage rescues (Iranian embassy 1980, Russian cases and Chechnya) are few of the most mentioned ones. Doesn't quite suite me, totally cold blooded killing... but anger... Although there's be much to type, and much to desire, that's it for now. Feel free to comment, be it to agree or disagree.

Technically - propably very possible. But VBS series isn't made by BIS, but by BIA. Engine is the same (basically - VBS got the fancy stuff) but they don't have the rights, and thus it's illegal to even import stuff from VBS's into ArmA and OFP. Not illegal the other way around, though, AFAIK.

Ze Logitech (IIRC) superkeyboard, if I'm not mistaken. LEDs and stuff, kinda like Saitek X52 but a... keyboard.

Good that the drag issue got solved... yeah drag is the resisting force, like friction (well, it is friction, partially). Lower the drag, less power to more speed. Looking good... eeeh lost count, how many variants will there be? And are they "switchable" (weapons loadout scripts)? Ah and about the 30000 ft... I think the game "stops" somewhere between 7 and 8 km flying-wise.
-
Uhhhh... I think he meant the texture size. 1024x1024. Should work well AFAIK, quite a few addons use them. Might be your settings, or the it's just the model or config. Or OFP bugging again. Nice cars... possibly interesting MP missions.
-
Well, depends... 1. Have you used the -nosplash and -nomap parameters (used like the -mod= parameter)? 2. OFP is a 2001 game. The game wasn't designed to use dual core and 64-bit processors, and the newest super-duber graphic cards. 3. Try to lower terrain settings. Usually helps a fair bit. 4. Try to improve your settings. Sometimes games have optimal settings for each system, and might actually run better on higher settings. I think some people had issues with LCD and TFT (flat) screens, since they have a "natural" resolution. 5. Try different settings. 6. Run OFP preferences. 7. WGL5 is a bit demanding on some systems, although it should be very noticeable. I myself run WGL5 with normal-low terrain settings, 1280x1024 (60 Hz) and FPS and detail sliders at full. VD at about 900-1500 metres. Framerate is usually between 10-40 fps, but may slow down during noticeable activity. System: 512 MB RAM, AMD Athlon 2800+, Geforce FX 5600.

"Think I can get in between there?" "Nope." "Oooh, yee *something*. Look how big that is.*

Many ATGM missiles have the ability to target and atleast shoot down slow-flying helicopters, and in some systems, AFAIK, the capability is also for the main turret system. Not that much of a question of pure gunner capability since AFAIK most modern gun systems are slaved to the targetting computer, with manual backups on atleast some, though. And yes, most tanks still have a high-caliber external AA MG... effectiveness on some targets is questionable, but...

Ok i got Unified Artiller mod andWGL 5.1
BlackScorpion replied to dragonfire43560's topic in GENERAL
Ehhhh... the latter is definetly not true. Used WGL 5.12 with COC many times (Zeus games), and it has worked fine. What's the addon that's missing? Maybe it isn't even included in the COC (v1.1 or what?). -

Awwwww, you all got so interesting backgrounds... Tampere, Finland. If all goes as planned, somewhere around Afghanistan (Kabul?) or Kosovo in few years.
