Digital Combat Simulations : Black Shark

Heh, this is great! Been somewhat waiting for that sim, having played the arcade-ish but very nice LOMAC quite a bit. The only thing worries me are the "addons"... sure, they're (apparently) near-perfectly made but... buying the aircraft one-by-one doesn't exactly suit my wallet.

    su-34

Well, regarding the original question about heatseekers... AFAIK, many especially earlier versions of AIM-9s were "lost" 'cos they locked either to the Sun or its reflection of the water, and instead flew there...

    FOOTMUNCH IRANIAN RETEXTURED F5E

That's the Saeqah. Azarakhsh looks a lot more like the traditional F-5, with certain additional features. Cool retex, might take these up to the skies in case my OFP wants to work.

Many online stores have it, and if you're lucky your local game stores might have few copies of the GOTY edition at hand. Mine does, so... having an idea of where you live might bring some help if there's any active forum member nearby. It's not necesserily in the "usual" big grey box - I've seen atleast few of those "classic" editions that feature some good (well, old atleast...) game in a cheaper DVD case. Oh, and... don't make too long quotes. And well, quoting images is forbidden. Just a reminder so that Placebo doesn't bite your head off.

OFP photography - Questions & comments

Well, that depends - if you're trying to upload them first, you might have to change format, since the pics out of DxDll come out as .tga files, Imageshack does handle those, though, as far as I know. Although I guess you're trying to use the thumbnails? Yeah, the sometimes work, and atleast used to work, but seems that the Ikonboard software doesn't allow double extensions, i.e. .th.jpg, and thus, well, complains. Either try to upload them somewhere else, hotlink them if they're under 100 kb or just post the link.

You have a lil' OFP in you?

Pilot, definetly. I've been known to shoot people trying to pilot a Littlebird... on a public server. If I'm on the ground, my preferred mean of fighting is a sort of an specop - alone or with a small group (usually a pair, with TS; depends on with whom I'm playing), evading enemy patrols (or completely eliminating them) and equipped with either long-range weapons, or silenced ones. In essence, you might compare me to Hoot or Shughart/Gordon from the film adaption of BHD. Playing as a medic isn't bad, especially in other games, but I usually tend to get killed if I'm one.

Should do. DxDll itself doesn't add any new skies IIRC, but there are few packs around for that. Ricbar, well, there are no "points"... it's really limited by your PC and own liking. You'll know when you have too much objects when your game runs at very low FPS or you have a CTD (Crash To Desktop). Yeah, it's limited by squads - you can have a total of 63 squads per side, and each squad holds a maximum of 12 soldiers. Although if you add 70 individual soldiers without grouping them, you'll either have to delete a few or group them together with the small cyan lines. As for the viewing distance, it's the "fog of war" - with the default view distance, you can see an object from around 700 metres, but after that a single soldier just... isn't visible. Depends on the weather though; in a rainy night might just be that you simple can't see shit.

Malik, as said, get the GOTY. It has all the "official" stuff, apart from patch 1.96; CWC, Red Hammer (those two forming the Gold edition) and Resistance. The mod in the picture is some of the (newer) FFUR/FFSX series, I think, modified from CameronMcDonalds 101st Airbornes (they do actually have the Eagle patch). As for the number of units (i.e. a BMP and tanks have a crew of 3, so it's 3 units; for M113 it's 2, for jeep 1 etc.) you can have ingame... 4 sides, 63 squads per side, 12 units per squad. 3042 units, in total, plus all the objects and such things "not alive". I've made few very simple missions where you have a dozen Russian squads coming at you and you have shitloads of ammo... With big-ish firefight missions there might be 6-10 squads (up to about 150) of units around at the same time. View distance... default at 900 (effectively you see about 650-700 metres), you can set it between 500 to 5000 meters from the settings. Airstrikes... depends. I've seen planes dropping bombs and otherwise engaging ground targets. Once I was fooling around in the editor, and just squared up my Elcan towards a... ummmm... Somali rebel who was pointing his AKM at me... suddenly the whole scope got filled with orange. Napalm strike. If you want planes to strike a specific, especially one specified ingame, target, it usually requires few scripts or atleast triggers. They shouldn't be too hard to do, atleast in their simplest forms, though. Oh and there are few mods at around 1 GB or more I think...

Pavlov's Dog (the Future of VBS/Arma?)

Wasn't this posted a fairly long time ago? 'cos... I've seen that thing before. Anyways, I think it's quite handy, atleast once they silence the motors. It can carry a fair bit of stuff so far, and it's just a prototype. It runs on gasoline, and is propably somewhat easy to fix when finished. There isn't much to do for a shot mule; with this thing, you just need a tool kit. As I said, it's a prototype. Making a quad walker that stable is quite good of an achievement in my opinion, as stabilizing the whole thing requires a helluva lot of calculations; thus, there aren't many walkers/runners in the world at the moment. As for the kick... I think that's pretty good, as it's able to negate impacts at a human comparable level. I doubt that Iraqi insurgents will start fielding karate masters if these things get deployed.

Real Life Photography/Photo Editing II - NO IMAGES >100kb

Make 'em black and white, create a dark green layer on the image, mess around with the level thingies (Color Burn, Multiply, Overlay etc.), edit contrast and add noise. Voila. 4.30am Sunday here so might not work.

    Anyone know this cammo?

Seems to be the Czech "Salamander" for airborne forces. Influenced by Italian pre-WWII stuff. Knew I'd seen that somewhere.

Real Life Photography/Photo Editing II - NO IMAGES >100kb

Mmmmmmm, paint... Shadow, maybe show me/us the picture in question? Well, there are some programs and tutorials for the effect (kind of like HDR), but judging by the pic and my memory... desaturation, possibly some hue editing and playing around with contrast. Not that much toning in the shot, as pretty much all their gear is brown. A bit though.

Would've said Stalingrad/Volgograd, but seeing the flag... Kiev? Very nice shots, mate. Those tanks... some sort of improvised playground/peace symbol?

Airsoft & Paintball and those in between.

Ummmm... regarding the first post of this thread... it was made in 2002. Most of the people who posted haven't been active for quite a while now, and the rest have likely changed atleast a bit. Regarding BDUs and alike, I meant as a whole. I wouldn't be surprised if someone walks past me wearing BDU pants in my school. Wex, hmmmm. I do recall seeing something about making such conversions. Well, atleast making a air cocked rifle (you know, the power source is your arm) into an AEG. Since the basics are same, it shouldn't be that hard. Would most likely require removing most of the parts though, and modifying the magazine (unless you create the propellant storage inside the gun). Regarding the full-auto capability, that shouldn't be an issue, since AFAIK, the most of the guns are limited to semi only. I recall that you can make a Marui DE full-auto by removing one or two parts.

Again? I recall hearing of few similar events in the past few years or so... I recall they were South Korean though. Small, but game-crazed nation.

Airsoft & Paintball and those in between.

Could you please explain what the 1st sentence means? Choose the weapon you like the most. If you want it to work better, upgrade it. Mine works fine, and I like the thing. It's durable, accurate and ergonomical. By that statement, re-enactors are "kinda gay". As are most paintballers I've seen. Military stuff is somewhat "in" atm, plus atleast some of it is usable elsewhere, too. Most beginning airsofters don't have uniforms. And well, part of the fun is the same with i.e. OFP and movies. It feels realistic, plsu you're part of it. Especially if the scenario is based on some real or plausible event. Got ArmA, due to enter service next July. Most CQC I know gets done in semi shots or short bursts.
  17. BlackScorpion

    Is OFP for me?

Well judging by your system, both ArmA and OFP ought to run quite smoothly on your system. As you might've noticed, OFP isn't a CQC game. Most of the engagements take place at ranges greater than 20m, even that is pretty much a covert op sure shot. Usually the distance is the "basic" distance, 100-300 metres. If you want it, get it. Go find the GOTY edition, shouldn't be too expensive, seen it being sold for few bucks at best. Install it, get few good mods such as FDF and WGL; both are quite realistic and done with both gameplay and realism in mind. Find some people who play either (Pulverizer has just set up a WGL server, and CiA still runs coop nights both Sundays and Wednesdays). If the price isn't too much, I suggest you give it a try no matter what. You can still just fool around in SP if you want, making missions and such. There are also quite a few ArmA "tactical" clans already, in the positive meaning of the word. Zeus, of WGL and FDF legacy, runs game nights on Saturdays and Thursdays as far as I know.

Thank you. Really. I'm shooting bear cans with a rifle that hasn't got a properly zeroed scope... it still hits what I'm aiming at. Btw, any idea of the outfit she's (you know who I mean) wearing? Well, not only it is (somewhat) hot, but... looks nice. OD, cotton(/poly). I want that.

OK, I'm fine with that. [/img]http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/5784/img29852originaleedtsbx7.jpg[/img] (no "pun" intended) Wex, what's the cost of Berget again? How good are the English skills of the players there? Would love to come maybe next year or in few years (applying to FRDF so that'll take atleast a year, and will spent next summer in FDF anyways)... cya there? Lee... you prepared to sell any of those? Aaaaaaaaaaand... if there's any Finnish guys reading this, any idea of people softing around Tampere?

Well "legal" is a varying term... As I mentioned, up to 3J rifles are allowed in most games here in Finland, atleast. Plus AS seems a lot more popular here, atleast. My previous reply was not a response to you but could you PLEASE stop calling us "pussysofters"? Unless that has something to do with the amount of women we get ( ), grrrrrr! Just telling from my point of view, up here. AS might be more free here, I might not be drunk (most Irishmen I've met have been drunk atleast in the past 48 hours)... who knows.
  22. BlackScorpion

Airsoft & Paintball and those in between.

Well, on the AS boards I visit there are quite a few guys who have been deployed in UN ops in i.e. Kosovo and Afghanistan. Regarding games... usually something atleast every weekend, 2-4 MilSims, few WWII games and few other bigger events.

Not only energy matters... quality of the weapon (mechanics, feed and barrel), of the BBs used and the skills (and luck ) of the shooter play a vital factor, as do the conditions. With hop-up and wind included calculating the exact range of a BB, well, isn't impossible but would result a hell of a equation. I'm happy using my M15A4 Tactical Carbine and shooting beer cans with it from around 30 metres... and I haven't even calibrated it that well to be honest. Just aligned the Aimpoint with the front sight... not the way to do it, but works. Here in Finland we do not actually have that much limits... just "basic" ones. About 1.2 to 1.4 Joules for normal assault rifles, a tad more (2 J or so) for support weapons and up to 3 Joules for sniper rifles, those are the limits that apply in most places. For CQC stuff, it's usually around 1 J. We're computer geeks, you work out? What's so brave about getting all bruises? If it works without extra pain and stuff, can't see the reason going into that. Plus most AS guns weight about the same as their counterparts (around 3 kg), and i.e. an M60 can easily weight up to 13-14 kilograms. Add to that a Vietnam scenario with all the gear with ya... ouch. Plus if one is into real firearms or associated, the gear works well with that.
