Finnish Defence Forces Mod
BlackScorpion replied to feersum.endjinn's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
So... chances are I'll be playing my beloved FDF in a new skin about a month after I get ArmA? Looks amazing, must say... or maybe I'm just too bloody used to OFP graphics. -
Scratch Modworks: US Army MPs
BlackScorpion replied to Jahve's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Heh... beautiful. Too bad I can't fool around with them yet. Once the modding tools are released, will you do some additional stuff, like different Army units (setobjecttexture or something?) and MP personel with different gear, such as Interceptors, or maybe even DCUs? Guess you've seen these, but... http://www4.army.mil/armyima....nge=all And well... my fav. MP images I've seen so far. http://www4.army.mil/armyimages/armyimage.php?photo=9455 http://www4.army.mil/armyimages/armyimage.php?photo=8075 http://www4.army.mil/armyimages/armyimage.php?photo=9208 -
Logical South Sahrani Kits
BlackScorpion replied to DUX0726's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Hmmm... MP-5 and... 7 mags? As said, M-16 or something, propably with less mags (depends... extra ammo, or full ammo load, when going to duty?). Flashbang? OK... although I think couple of smoke shells ought to be issued. I think the soldier ought to have more than 1 set of clothing. Or do they run around naked when washing their BDUs? Also, to make a complete set, down to every minor detail, you're missing something... casual. Like... working "uniform" (some even older stuff, like Herringbone twill suits?) and, well, underwear. Socks, boxers, T-shirts, etc. The "Royal Sahrani guard" looks nice. I hope, as in The Foreign Legion, the kepi, should you decide to keep it, varies in color according to rank (they have separate officers too, don't they?). Black, red or blue for officers and white for "grunts". Just my ideas. -
Hehee, nice pics all... ummm, Earl, around Florida, maybe? Yeah, I was planning the dSLR for RIAT (meet ya there, killagee ) too. Infact, if budget allows, I'll be spending the whole Flying Legends - RIAT week in UK. Now that I noticed that I actually have a mere 400€ to use, I've thought about going the "other way", which basically allows me enough money to buy a EOS 1DS Mk II if I'd like... but yeah. Maybe 400D is enough? Couple of 1GB memory cards, few extra batteries (maybe a "battery handle"?) and a 300mm (which, according to certain rather respected magazine is in effect about 450mm btw) or so lense.

Got to say Saturday had some fun moments... like the warehouse complex in the desert. First I take the BMP-3 and engage the T-80 with the ATGM, hit but not that big effect... tried to give it a bit o' whacking with the 30mm, but a vain attempt. Get blown up in the middle of our infantry lines. 2nd time, I take the chopper. After landing our inf fairly close to the complex, yet on the wrong side of the fence, I back off and give some fire support. Get bored, move closer and pop the Blackhawk from behind the warehouse. MISSILE WARNING! Try to back off but chopper blows up mid-air while hovering 20m above the groundies... BOOM atleast half a dozen gone. Then the Ruskie desert coop thingy we had... drive a BMP down the cliff and get back up, and just as I'm getting on flat ground my gunner jumps out and I... well, accelerate over him. Then, trying to engage a static TOW launcher... well he was faster. Some fooling around continues, and then someone picks up some wierd mine, places it on the ground and we wonder how it works in TS. 5-10 mins later I come around, look if it's a backpack or something on the ground, aaaaaaand... run over it and blow up half a dozen, or so, guys. Gotta see about Thurs, but could have some good laughs again though.

With "superzoom automatic" I mean cameras like the one mentioned above. That offer greater optical zoom than normal "pocket digis". Had my handy 4 Mpix pocket camera in Paris, but trying to shoot an Eurofighter Typhoon from 200-300m at 3x zoom while the lense is pocketsize (~20mm)... Although I guess I'll try to get an used 350D or something from my contacts... 600€ really doesn't leave much choise, tho'.

Err... you just broke the forum rules. Da pic (not linked) is 118 kB. The camo looks nice and the faces fit in... nice job. Dunno if it's just ArmA graphics in general but looks beautiful.

From Wikipedia L98A1 Cadet GP Rifle article.

How about plane "spotting" in airshows (RIAT, Flying Legends etc.)? Would a "superzoom automatic" be enough for such job? Thinking about getting an SLR for UK trip next summer (and for general use, too), but they cost quite a lot.

What's wrong with Franzes Apaches? -
AH-64D (Longbow) Apache
BlackScorpion replied to RedStorm's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Agreed. A correct counterpart would be the Mi-28 (which still has room to carry about 3 guys inside the fuselage I think) I guess. Or Ka-52, possibly. Interesting stuff there, never knew that the Longbow can be actually used for that. Too bad that they propably can't be implemented, though. -
Forgot to call the 26th then eh? Nice one.

Nah was chatting with a friend and watching telly... Saturday then.

Norwegian Rangers addon

Sounds interesting... got the NorFor stuff for OFP, nice camo scheme you have. The hat it called woollen hat or watchcap. Will be interestign to get the Jägers (?) for ArmA... well, once I get it. Fennoscandinavian coop! As for the pic host, I suggest you try Imageshack. Many people use it, and it's easy to use. You can either register to control your images or just upload them straight away. Just remember that you're not allowed to hotlink (the pic actually showing, like in your first post) over 100 kB images. -
Just as a reminder, guys... it's Finland's 89th birthday tomorrow. Anything special, possibly? FDF-only missions?

Not always... there are definetly recorded events of Abrams firing (accidentally or on purpose) at an another one, and not being able to do basically anything. Abrams', especially with it's DU armor, is helluva well protected. But as also shown, it's not fully safe. Somebody mentioned the HEAT rounds... well they shouldn't blow up masses of infantry, as they're really not that "HE". They are shaped chrage rounds and use the explosive to melt a piece of metal found inside the shell and push the hot metal stream (also referred to as "jet") towards the armor. And well, when you got hot, molten copper or something similar metal travelling at few thousand m/s and you place a metal plate infront of it... ouch. Same technology has been in use since Panzerfausts, and is used in most AT weapons. Mesh armor, metal wiring that is, is designed to decrease the effectiveness by either disabling the fuse of the round or by putting space between the armor and detonation point, spreading out the jet and usually rendering it useless, after all.

Agreed... also, the pattern is quite small, AFAIK it's larger in real life. http://www.multicampattern.com/IMAGES.htm Those MARPAT units are also very nice.

UC Studios ArmA Thread

Yep, South Sahrani commandos seem to carry G36C's. And not that you mentioned it... standard G36 variants, pimped out ones aaaand... SPAS-12 and AA-12. Maybe Saiga, AN-94 (nice mercenary weapon, maybe) and something off AK-100-series too. -

F35B US Marine Corps MAW
BlackScorpion replied to USMCRP3's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Looks nice... got any bigger pics to show? Kinda hard to make out details from those... Hmmm... I'll try to get you couple of nice shots if the thing makes an appearence at RIAT next summer... too bad I didn't ask whether I could get into the cockpit of one at Le Bourget. Took couple of shots of it (prototype?) though. -
Why sorry? Your English is more readable (=better) than many people around here. Hmmm, yeah, that does make sense... 7.62x54R packs more punch than the 7.62 NATO and is lethal to about 1,5 km or so (effective and fairly accurate), so at ranges at 800m and below it's really just a matter of the rifles basic accuracy (not one of SVD's strongpoints though) and the skills of the shooter.

oldskool ofp menu and loading screen mod for arma

Love the FDF one though. -
Use optimized .jpg. If I'm not wrong (which, as I haven't followed the ArmA section that much, might be possible) the 100 kB rule is still in effect. The rule is per single picture and no "compensation" is allowed; otherwise you could post a 600 kB image since you're allowed to post 6 images per post. Slicing images into many parts under 100 kB, as Parvus usually does, can be used for big, high quality pics. Just take a look at the pics at OFP General's Combat Photography thread or the pics Wilco has posted. All under 100 kB but yet of good quality. If you have PS, you should have a "save for web" option, which is really useful. Or if you really want to post big pics, link them. Or use thumbnails (which, in effect, is just a link that shows as a pic). As for the PS thing, here's the pic above in .jpg, quality rate at 55 or 60. http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/1471/armapicsizeproofmr5.jpg Anyways, despite the size (my connection can handle even the biggest pics in about half a second anyways), awesome pics. Can't wait to get to use them once I get my copy of the game.
