  1. Well just today I had thoughts of throwing my whole computer out of the window and smash it to little pieces. It didn't happen yet but if I get so lucky that I actually manage to do it, then I won't be here anymore as a side effect.

Oh yeah, not caused by this or any other forum, just about what else is happening (or to be more precise, not happening) in my life.

  2. I always shot with he "right hand" as the weapons I started shooting with had their case - ejection to the right, like the G3 for example. If I shot with the left hand there would have been a severe risk of getting the hot brass in the face and/or elsewhere where it really hurts.

The RK - 62 throws the shells to the right too so that might be one good reason for left-handed people to use it on their right side.

Good point is also which one of your eyes is better - if your other eye is clearly weaker than the other one then there is no point using it even if you need to change to your "secondary" hand then.

In games like ArmA I would like to see more variety in the soldier models. Maybe left-handedness could fit in too. Another thing is how much it actually improves the experience for the left-handed people? Mainly, would it be worthwhile for game developers to consider it.

  3. Yes, yes, I believe it is difficult.

I didn't say I am sure about how people used their assault rifle at the shooting range. My memories are old and it might have been so that some people used their rifles left-handedly. I just don't remember seeing anyone do it.

For parades I am 100 % sure that everyone had to keep their rifles in exactly the same way. That is understandable and I believe not a big problem for left-handed people, as it is not a battle but just show.

As I said, in a battle it doesn't matter how you keep the rifle if you get good results  biggrin_o.gif It would actually be foolish to start telling people to keep their rifle in some certain way if they then would not be as effective.

  4. About how left-handedness is dealt with in a military. While I was serving in the FDF I didn't see anyone using their assault rifles "left-handed". If I recall correctly (9 years have passed since then, so it's not in fresh memory anymore) it was even told to us in weapon training that everyone should use their weapon in a similar manner, on their right side. This is definitely true and necessary for parade situations when the group must look uniform.

When we were at the shooting range my memory tells me that everyone kept their weapons similarly there too. But to say again, this starts to be an old memory.

In a real battle situation I think you can hold the weapon with your toes if it gives better results than holding it in your hands.

About the equipment I can say for sure there was no separate equipment for left-handed people, everyone got the same stuff and had to deal with it.

I'm right-handed so I didn't have any problems with that.

I think it is not needed in ArmA. But what do I know anyways, it's "right" for me smile_o.gif

  5. No one here has said civilians should not have any guns as far as I know. Stop riding on that, it makes you look like you can't read or understand what others are saying.

You are going crazy over-protective about your right to bear arms because some people just want to apply some common sense to what kind of guns civilians should be allowed to have and to whom guns are given. You are going crazy for nothing. As I said earlier in this thread, your constitution can be kept unmodified. From what I have read about the "amendment" which gives citizens of USA the right to bear arms (in a disputable form put let's put that aside now) does not state what kind of "arms" it is talking about. So it leaves quite a lot of room for common sense. Question and the problem is, do the people of the USA want to apply common sense or not?

Do you need automatic weapons? No you don't. Do you need semi-automatic weapons? No you don't. Do you need to give a small baby a gun permit? No, you don't need to do that!

  6. Well I think not all is in your hands. This thing called "internet" is such a beast that it's not necessarily your wire that is not working. You could try playing on other servers and see if you still get the same message in the same manner.

Edit: Oops yes you said you have tried many servers... well all I know is I haven't had such a problem with Armed Assault. I won't play on high ping servers.

  7. To this date, the only good show I have seen in the contest was last year's Hard Rock Hallelujah. It was exactly what the contest needed, to be shaken up. This year it seemed to be back to the normal routine.

    Thanks for the video GranQ.

  8. Well it was a disappointment for me to notice that Armed Assault doesn't provide string manipulation functions for us as found in for example C/C++.

There must be some good reason for BIS to not include such functions. If it is purely a business decision then it is okay for me. If the reason is technical then I'd like to hear it from BIS. If the reason is performance problems then I say leave it to mission designers to decide if their mission is too heavy or not.

An ugly hack is really just that, an ugly hack which might or might not work in future versions.

  9. Just make sure you don't ban people based on guesses.

"It feels... it feels to me like... this ID has to be pirated! BURN IN HELL YOU SCUMBAG! *BAN*"

And at the other end of the line, little Mary, 5 and still wearing diapers, starts to cry as her legal copy of Armed Assault just became impossible to use on her favourite server. Do you feel better now? What?

  10. william1, I am not trying to imply that you do a bad job when you edit your mission. But even if you make changes to your mission in very small steps, it doesn't in any way guarantee that your mission has no technical or logical errors.

I am saying we should see what you are trying to do and how you have tried to do it before we can jump to any kind of conclusions.

It is likely that if your CPU is in flames then an error is more than likely. But in my opinion this kind of speculation (not based on facts about your mission) does not help you in determining what is the cause of your problems. What are your problems? We still haven't heard what exactly is going wrong in your script. It can even be a bug in Armed Assault believe it or not.

The problem of AI units not continuing on their waypoints has been discussed here already, I have even seen it many times in a mission I am creating. I would say that it is either a bug in Armed Assault or something in the AI system has changed since OFP and we do not understand how to use the new system to achieve the same result as in OFP. This problem for sure is not caused by high CPU load.

  11. I can sign these experiences. At first try the mission didn't seem to go onwards from some point and I gave up playing the campaign for some time, maybe even patched the game before attempting this mission again. At second try it worked. I can't say what were the version numbers of ArmA when I played this mission.

  12. An enemy group is supposed to say something when they encounter the player's group. The player's group is just supposed to hear what the other group says.

So I would say, the logic here is not correct as you are trying to make the target group also say something when they shouldn't.

Do you want to change this logic somehow?

This comment from the top of my head without looking at the original OFP Group Link II scripts.

If you want different logic than how it is in OFP GL II then there is not much I can say to this (too little information from your side).

  13. If you are scripting for single player, then the publicVariable is completely unnecessary. It broadcasts the variable over network to other computers in a multiplayer session.

To get terms straight, a type of a variable is not one of public, global or local. A type of a variable is for example boolean, array, float and so on. Public, global and local are about where your variable is visible. Scope of a variable as so to speak.
