PLEASE tell me they don't show those sort of adverts on US TV! Has politics in the US become that pathetic and childish? What happened to civility between parties?

Ho ho, I didn't know My Brooker was writing for the Guardian. Trust him to cause an international scene. Last time he kicked up a fuss was in the UK games mag PC Zone. He used to freelance review, and draw cartoons for the mag. One month, there was a feature called 'Cruelty Zoo'. It was a satire concerning the depiction of children and violence in the media, and consisted of kids smashing monkeys heads in with hammers, and nailing penguins to the floor. It was in short hilarious. The magazine was then sued, had the issue pulled, got a bollocking from the home office, and had questions in parliment. Superb, I still have my original copy! Here is one of his recent projects. Not as good as the old stuff, but he would have been lynced by now otherwise!

    The Iraq thread 4

Well, they used to, but US forces shot or disbanded the regular military and the forces that kept things in check. If you smash the structure apart, you need to rebuild it. Iraqi forces will not be significantly combat capable for another 2-3 years, and thats assuming they start getting supplied with the right kit.

My reply was in regard to mod's in general, and not directed at the mods in OFPEC. Of course, the mods here and there are above suspicion! And Bowerybaker, you seem to be skitting from tangent to tangent! Get some sleep, or lay off the amphetamines!

The war of 1812? Wasn't that when the US tried to invade Canada and got a good shoeing?

If your posts were 'edited', its usually done by a mod who thinks far too highly of himself, and his 'responsibilities' to the world. Don't worry about it, some people are far too paranoid, a fear that is fed by the media who like to think that computer games help kids to kill.

    Canadian Submarine in Distress

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/3717906.stm Uh oh, I wonder if its one of those diesel deathtraps the Royal Navy sold the Canadians a few years back. No real news yet, it just popped up on my desktop. EDIT - Some more details updated. Yes, it is Ex RN! (Not believed to carry nukes..... It's Canadian! )

This voter registration system in the US seems crazy. When I vote, I get a card through the door with my name and a number on it. I take it to my voting station, identify myself and then vote. I can't remember ever having to register for every election, it seems crazy. I'm on the electoral roll already, I simply update them if I move house.

Whats so fun about stoning your mind out , not knowing what you might do, lose your ability to perform even the simplest of actions , not to mention health issues and being a nuisance to others? to relax! Something you Ace should try from time to time! (without the help of alcohol of course) Â ----------------------------------------------------------- Maybe I just drink and smoke to rebell against this upcoming trend of "living healthy makes you live happily". We have all those freaking fitness tapes coming over from Florida and California of people eating the most disgusting artificial health food, taking Botox and youth hormons, sleeping in oxygen tents and beginning the day with Joga and a facial scrub. I just hate this fakeness... I rather have a good discussion with someone who is drunk and smells from cigarettes than with a phoney californian fittness trainer. Eaxactly. Live fast, and die young! Where's the fun in being old?

Well, all Kerry has to do his rip his jacket off his shoulders tonight. That should go down well with the audience, if he doesn't get shot by the Secret Service first.

I started smoking when I was 17, and I'm now 23. I quit about 6 months ago as I was exercising quite alot and it was impairing my performance. Started back up again 2 weeks ago as I started a diet, and found I was always hungry. Result - 1 + 1/4 stone loss of weight in 2 weeks . (I suppose the dialy intake of only 10grams of fat helped as well (Recommended is 95g) It's the ultimate weight loss plan, but I suppose I might quit again when I'm down to my desired weight, and do a bit more exercise to keep it in check. I like smoking, but those 6 months were good in the fact that my sense taste and smell increased, and I saved a small fortune.... which I then spent on beer And ~Denior is correct, I love my 5 mins smoking breaks when I'm in work. When I quit, the working day was one long bore.

    Canadian Submarine in Distress

Nah, we off loaded all the old crap ones on poor Canada. I believe a Navy official was quoted as saying, 'well they were sold as seen, so its not our problem anymore' Most of the British Submarine fleet is now nuclear, including the Trident submarines and the new hunter killer class that was launched. (British and American submarines share quite a bit of tech between them)

Hmm, a mobile ballistic system. A pain in the arse to track and identify.

    Canadian Submarine in Distress

It might have been on a joint exercise in the UK, or perhaps just patrolling. Diesel submarines can travel pretty much anywhere, its just their range which is short compared to a nuclear sub. Remember, the Germans had U-Boats operating all over the Atlanic, and the guld of Mexico in WWII, and US/JAP subs regulary moved around the pacific,

A shame that this wasn't done at the very beginning and adopted as policy. Events like this shouldn't be specials in a newspaper but a regualr occurance. However it is doubtful if that can ever happen now, as Iraq now seems to be too far gone.

    PDA's, and software

Hi all, My Dell Axim X30 turned up today! I've played with a few, so I decided to get the best I could get for the moment. As work was paying, I loaded it with all the features I could get. ie. 1gb SD card, 642mhz CPU, 3 different cases... etc As an added bonus it turned up with a Dell GPS system which I didn't pay for! Couldnt find it on the invoices or delivery note, so I'm not saying anything! Anyways, do the owners here (Denior) have a list or a decent site they visit for what they recommend as 'essential' software? I'll be doing a lot of wifi'ing at home and work, plus the usual cool gadgets/programs would be great as well. Particulary interested in decent VNC software, and a media player that actually saves the buffer to the PDA when playing. (MS Media Player buffers, stutters, and when it had completed and you click play again, it does it again!) Thanks chaps!

Thanks for all the links. I'm browsing as we speak.

    PDA's, and software

I am very pleased with it, and so far have not noticed any major faults. The X30 is one of the best performing PDA's out there, and for the price is miles better than a Ipaq. Built in Wifi is fantastic, and all the programs run very quickly on a 600mhz CPU! If you do get one, try to get another battery as well. Wifi'ing and watching movies drains the battery pretty quickly when your out and about! I'd highly recommend one of these. If you visit www.brighthand.com, there are a few X30 reviews on there. (BTW, I'm writing this from bed on the X30, and streaming a movie in the background! Now I can administer my machines in work from the breakroom! )

Gentlemen, gentlemen, we must stop this crazy bickering! If the Americans (And people of other nations) wish to kill each other with high powered firearms, through crime/paranonia/accidents, its none of my my concern, and after reading this, I don't care anymore. Fuck 'em! Its their problem.
