  1. I've been inspired by COD 4 to do a scene much like the opening credits, with the car witnessing battles ensuing in the city of Chernarus. There is one particular scene where Guerrillas have 6 civs up against the wall and are individually waypointed to kill them. I want the execution to commence when the car enters the trigger, but it seems to not work. So I tested some processes in a new map with a simple West soldier walking into a trigger which activates the movement of a civilian. No luck. Every single time the civ decides to follow the waypoint before I get a chance to walk into the trigger. I added music to ensure that it was triggered, and it was. In the waypoint, which is simply a "MOVE" command, I had entered the condition "yesGoAhead = 1" In the trigger I had the activation "yesGoAhead = 1" When this failed, I tried something different. I used every combination of "=" and "==" I could think of. I used synchronization. I have searched this forum through and through, and I have downloaded a number of guides. According to everything, I'm doing it right! Can anyone give me an example of how they would outline a mission like this? I know this is very basic, but I've been frustrated for about 3 hours now trying to figure this out. Google turned up nothing and forum search turned up nothing. Thanks in advance. Regards, -Walrus
  2. I about crapped myself when I saw exploding barrels in OFPDR. Moving Kiska to Arma 2 would do it quite a bit of justice. When you're playing in Chernarus in the campaign, there's a sense of a bigger world. You can really feel the difference between being in Vshnoye, and being in Chernogorsk; the diversity in the game between two seperate locations in done so beautifully that transitioning between those two seperate cities is seamless, even in aircraft. In OFPDR I would be flying around in the editor, the bloom giving me a headache, wondering exactly how they expected this island to come together. Maybe it's just because the system is so different in OFPDR, but I couldn't seem to really get attatched to my surroundings. Every mission seems like a COD level with better opportunities to flank the enemy, there's even scripted spawning since the engine won't allow more than 64 units on the map at a time! I imagine that Arma 2 will actually make this island seem like an island, rather than a location to have a random battle play out. That campaign made no sense, OFP's campaign was lightyears better, even if the actors sounded like they were at AA reading off a cue card. Didn't mean to get into a rant. This would be pretty sweet, so good luck!

Eve Online - I want it, but just a bit wary.....

EVE is a yawntastic misrepresentation of space travel. I could spend hours watching my ship in warp though... If you like space games, give the X3 series a go. The learning curve is a real weenur, but if you can handle ARMA chances are you have the patience to figure it out. You can get the newest one for dirt cheap now.

    Dragon Rising has been released

I love how the enemies need 7 shots to the chest to fall on the ground, with 3 more round plugged into their heads to kill them. That's my favorite part. I also like how a dyslexic man with feet where his hands should be created the helo controls. I love how turning the steering wheel of a humvee immediately is construed as "DONUT DONUT DONUT DONUT DONUT." I love how I get a headache every time I aim because of the bloom and blur. But my FAVORITE part of the game has got to be how Skira island looks. I love how you can't tell where you are at any given time because everything looks the same in the day time because it's all a beige nightmare and that at night it's all baby blue. Nothing says fantastic like two colors making up an entire game! Well, at least the multiplayer redeems the game. Too bad that's completely broken to the point where nobody in the world can play. Go figure. This is a disaster!
  5. I'm running a laptop with a 1.83 Ghz processor and I am getting 24 FPS constant with spikes of 19 here and there on the demo on normal. It kind of makes me feel good that my modest laptop is running this game better than some people with $2,000 machines modeled after the monolith from 2001. I might actually buy the game now if there's a chance that there's just some issues that need to be eased out before people can play this game at playable levels, because it's honestly getting kind of ridiculous if this game was released with such an insane level of hardware dependencies. It's like the whole game was designed and tested on the same computer, which obviously was not running any nVIDIA cards. I love BIS and think ARMA 2 is fantastic, but I can't understand all these problems with these supercomputers running this game. Good luck fixing this problem though, guys. Some people have spent 400 bucks on a new video card just for this game and have had no luck, that must be an awful feeling..

Arma 2 Demo vs Full Game

I am asking this question in pertinence to performance, but it is such a wide subject that it belongs in the sticky. This is not limited to my system, your system, or any system in particular. It just is a question about Arma II in general. Are there any positive or negative differences between the demo and full game as far as performance? I understand of course that there are plenty of missions more intense than the demo missions, but I am wondering that if you put 30 Russians against 30 Americans in the same city of the same map, will it run better or worse in the demo or in the full game. I ask this because I get a substandard FPS in the demo, and if there is a 10 fps drop between the demo and the actual game under the same circumstances then I just won't buy it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  7. This is my rig: CPU: 1.83 GHZ C2D GPU: 8800M GTS w/ 512MB vram 4GB DDR2 RAM Windows Vista 64-bit I can run the game at a steady 27 fps during firefights on all normal w/o pp, aa, af, and at 1280x768. The benchmark clocked me at 24 fps though. Luckily, I can play a powerpoint presentation if I have to so long as I have fun.

    Sooo...yeah.

Living here in Michigan and refusing to use Steam means I have to wait, too. It's unfortunate that we have to, but if you think you're getting screwed by an extra month wait on a game by Czech developers to be released in North America, you're absolutely stupid. Play the demo. Besides, you're going to be getting a more stable game than our European friends. Think before you post.

    Question about specs:

I would like to start by apologizing for having to ask this kind of question; they get old extremely fast. My computer is a decent setup, it is a Gateway FX laptop, it's specs are: RAM: 4 GB DDR3 GPU: 8800m GTS w/ 512MB of VRAM(2.2 Gb shared) OS: Vista Home 64-Bit CPU: C2D t5550 @ 1.83 Ghz i no, rite? Seeing as I am just .17 GHz off of the minimum specs, I assume I'll be able to run this fine. I can run Crysis on Medium-High absolutely no problem, and that is usually how I decide if I can run a game. Unfortunately, being such a damn CPU-Intense game rather than GPU-intense, I am worried that I'm going to bottleneck just short of playable. I know the demo is set to come out in the next fifteen minutes to fifteen hours, but I'd really like to know if my European friends have managed to run ArmA 2 on a similar setup. I suppose I could upgrade my CPU if I really needed to, but I have no problem with a low framerate. I will play a powerpoint slideshow so long as it looks presentable. Thanks in advance, and sorry for such a cliche question, ~AwesomeWalrus
  10. I'm lovin' the beta man, I can tell a LOT of effort was put into the units. I had a question though: are you still planning on releasing the grey Wehrmacht troops? Because I have a personal preference to the grey uniforms. Thanks for all the hard work, I'm looking forward to a few Point Du Hoc missions.
  11. Awesome work guys! I'm dl'ing now, I'll give it a shot tonight and keep an eye out for bugs and such! So which mod has the duty of updating the "essential mods" stickies? Merry Christmas!

    31st Normandy mod -WW2

Wow, this mod is looking great. I'd just like to thank Rip31st and the rest of the team though, as someone said earlier you guys should be the role model for all dev teams out there trying to push out mods. You keep in close communication with your fans, you let us know how you're doing, and you don't jump down our throats when we ask you how it's coming along. So many other mod teams like to scream "We have lives, damnit!" at us whenever we ask if it is dead. I would just like to say, and I hope I speak for all of us, how much I appreciate the direct communication with your fellow gam3rz. This mod is going to be sweet, keep up the good work!

Galaxy at War returns for ArmA

Just FYI, Acacyn was going to release this mod last May, then June, then the first week of August. After his claim about the first week of August he has not responded to questions on his site. Is it dead? I don't know. But don't get your hopes up for anything.

    USEC C130 Hercules

Reading the 1st and 2nd page would give you the answer. Â Â Oh yes, I apologize. The C-130 is looking great though, i'm really looking forward to paradrop missions!

    USEC C130 Hercules

I don't know much about scripting, but would it be possible to put a turret on the side of an airplane without animations? For example, just crosshairs and explosions if you're in the co-pilot seat of the C-130? Because in truth I think the only reason people want the AC-130 is because it could be a nice rail-gunner mission bound by waypoints, nobody wants that in 3rd person. You guys know if it is possible?
