  1. Another ArmAInteractive player checking in and I have to say that ArmAI is so good that it has totally ruined regular pub play for me. ArmAI uses ArmA like it was meant to be used. Full scale, combined arms conflicts with organized units and strategies. You're not going to waltz in and be commanding a Ranger unit your first battleday, however. Just like in real life, you've got to put some time in and practice. And it makes the community a much better place.

    Sniper Scope Tips

The bullet drop over distance is linear and not parabolic (Basically, the bullet doesn't ever slow down from friction). Therefore it is not realistic in the strictest definition, but for the purposes of the game, it's realistic enough to add the challenge but not be overly demanding. As far as your statement about long range shooting being guess work... we'll you're just wrong. Unless you mean 800+ meters. And then it is only due to the MOA accuracy of the rifles. First shot headshots can be reliably reproduced inside 800m.

    Sniper Scope Tips

How can you use the M24 at that range? At >1000m you need to holdover the scope so much the target isn't even in the view anymore! So basically zooming in the weapon won't change the view direction and you can set a custom static view direction for a weapon. Whoopdeedo, now the M4SPR won't change zero's when you zoom it. That's about it. It doesn't even make proper M203 sights possible, unless the camera/barrel angle can change and therefore doesn't allow custom sights. I'm really hoping the view definition points can be moved in game though. That would be everything we hoped for. Targets can be hit with the M24 at those ranges when firing from a position that is elevated above the target.

    Sniper Scope Tips

I would imagine there is so much guesswork because you don't know the finer details of how to use a ranging scope (like the mil-dot or SVD optic) to its full capability. I know several ArmA snipers who can get One Shot Kills reliably to 800m on a horizontal plane. Shots well beyond that range are prefectly possible, especially when the shooter is elevated above the target. All the in-game distance shooters I know DID have to work out their shooting range cards with experience because the model isn't exactly real world. It's a reasonable facsimile, but simplified somewhat. Once you know how to determine range reliably with a mil-dot scope and have a solid range card, OSKs are just a matter of a little practice. The M24 and SVD are very accurate, the SPR a fair bit less but still solid inside 600m. The point is, it is all very predictable and repeatable. Research how to use ranging scopes, learn a little about bullet physics and you'll be ahead of most players.

    8007000e Error in Vista

Yes, it definitely gets worse the longer you play. If you back off your video settings, you can eventually get to a point where it stops doing it altogether.

    8007000e Error in Vista

I think we proved more then once that this is NOT an 8800 nor a Vista only problem. Its ArmA itself so BI gotta do something! Â Someone in this Thread said that he dont want a workaround, he want a solution and i can second that... Yeah, but it's much worse with 8800 series cards and especially with Vista, Einstein.

    8007000e Error in Vista

If you are getting this error a lot, you need to back off on your video settings some. I only get this error when running settings that are high and it always comes in conjunction with the LOD bug. With the new NVIDIA drivers and the current full-production version, I can run at all normal video settings and be completely stable. If I go to all high, I get the LOD bug slightly and then start getting the memory surface error with CTD. The error is some sort of memory handling issue with the 8800 series cards. Basically, if you are getting it, back off your video settings until it stops. I know these cards SHOULD be able to handle it, but due to drivers being fairly new and the game being fairly new, neither has been optimized well yet. I have found the the new NVIDIA drivers and the US Demo used in tandem allow me to run at max video settings and I have yet to have stability problems. Also, the maxmem parameter only makes things worse for me.

    New Vista Drivers WHQL

Cameron, just to let you know what I have found... With the current production version (non-beta patch), I can put everything on high (not very high) and the issue is MUCH better. I can go quite 20+ min. without having LOD issues. Then, when I get them they start very small and get a little worse over the next 20-30 min. Then, it finally gets out of hand. Occasionally, I get the memory surface CTD error in the latter stages of LOD issues. Also, in multiplayer, things get a little choppy occasionally. In the US Demo, I can run everything maxed out and it runs just fine. No choppiness and no LOD issues at the 30 minute mark. I haven't been able to test it further yet. I have to admit, I haven't pushed the US Demo as hard as I have the full production version, however, I tend to believe at this point that the US Demo in combination with the new NVIDIA drivers makes a platform that can be considered stable at acceptable quality settings. At the very least, it's a promising step in the right direction. NOTES; This was all done with a 4GB pagefile. Also, the maxmem parameter makes thing MUCH worse for me.
  9. Consider checking out ArmA Interactive. Good pilots are always in need. http://www.armainteractive.com

We'll do. I'll test the US Demo tonight with the new drivers and get back to ya. Also, I suppose I need to start using the maxmem parameter in my full version.

Are you testing in the Beta 1.05 or the US Demo? I think we might get close to getting this solved with the combination of the US Demo and the new nVidia drivers.

Please let me know how this turns out. I have the same issues as you.
  13. Specs: Intel DC 2 Ghz 2 GB RAM 8800GTS 340MB Windows Vista I have serious LOD issues as many people with Vista and 8800 series cards have detailed on here. I lowered all my video settings to "low" except for resolution (1280x1024x32) and the game is completely stable and runs well with no LOD issues. I have seen some discussion about the "-maxmem=512" startup parameter, but I am not clear on how this helps. More importanly, I have heard other people using different values for the maxmem parameter (like 1024). My question is, how does this impact the video performance in ArmA? How does increasing or decreasing the parameter value effect LOD issues? Thanks in advance, Animal22
  14. I've got a 8800GTS and I have the same issues. I have scaled everything back to low settings (except resolution) and the game runs fine for me now. I downloaded the new US demo and was able to raise all those setttings to Normal and was able to run fine. I've heard some people talk about using the "-maxmem=512" command line parameter and how that helps, but I have yet to track down a decent thread on how to best optimize the maxmem command.
