You're right, I messed up when updating to 1.19 Working fine now. Great mod, keep up the good work!

It's not? After I did this my sound definately changed ingame...

Thanks Manzilla for your post on updating the .hpp file for ACE. I, for the life of me, can't think of a reason why the creator of this mod doesn't mention this info anywhere! I think there's a fair few people playing with ACE sounds thinking they're Vopsound... Thx again! Also, little tip for vista users with Audigy cards (no real EAX support) I get the best result with these settings: Add -openal to your shortcut, turn off CMSS in creative console, turn on EAX in Arma and turn Hardware Acceleration off. This seems to be the best setting for me, in other setting the sounds are way too low in volume. Especially your own rifle. With these settings my guns go BANG again. Hope it helps someone.

One word: WEATHER! Realistic snow/rain/fog/thundershowers (imagine a firefight in shallow fog during nighttime) These would really add to the atmosphere and can lift a gaming experience significantly. Forget about stuff that the community can add later on, focus on the stuff we can't make ourselves. I'm totally physched about this game and really looking forward to it, keep up the good work!

A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment Public Release!
Ateryu82 replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Sorry if my question clutters up this thread a bit but I've just installed ACE and I'm a bit lost as to what mods have been incorporated in it. Before ACE I ran mods like HiFi, ArmaEffects, JTD, lowplants, RUG_DSAI and some unit outfit replacements. Can somebody tell me if any of these are a part of the ACE mod? Are there other mods that are recommended to complement ACE? Keep up the great work, one mod to rule them all! This is the holy grail of modding! -
@ Everyone: It think you´re creating an unworkable situation for Chammy. One thinks this volume is too weak, others state that volume is too loud, too much bass, not enough bass etc etc. I´ve been fiddling a bit with the ´hardware acceleration´ and ´EAX´ in the game menu and have found that these affect sound volume a lot! So, when commenting on this stuff please state your ingame sound settings and your speaker configuration. We might be able to detect a pattern, for instance people not using EAX might complain more about lack of bass than others or vice versa.
-
Awesome, I guess I'll dust off Arma to try this. Maybe it's an idea to release 2 different versions regarding sound volume? One like this and one with upped volume? Also, is this meant to be played with Hardware acceleration and EAX on? Thx for the release Chammy, it might have taken forever but it looks like you delivered.

I disagree m8. If the high end games I just mentioned run flawlessly then in my opinion I can easily blame BIS for performance on their game. It's a moot point though... Dwarden, thx, will try some of them out and see what happens. And i have to disagree with you, as ArmA works on my old rig with very high settings. If the game would be the source of the problem, it would be impossible to run ArmA on very high settings with an MSI GeForce 7600GS 512MB AGP card. I´ll build me an new rig in december, but an ATI card will most likely be not my choice. I put my money on Nvidia, at least i get working drivers from them. edit: And no, i don`t even plan to go SLI or crossfire, to avoid problems from the start. And if the card/drivers were the problem then games like crysis and assassin's creed wouldn't run as great as they do. It depends on how you look at it. In my reasoning, a sign of bad coding is when other games look better and also perform better... Hardware is leading, software follows.

I can also confirm that Arma just runs terrible with my new 4870x2. I had a 7950gx2 before this and that performed beautifully on 1280x1024. Now I'm running on 1680x1050 and I have to set lower ingame settings to play properly, it's ridiculous. The card is funtioning properly (Cat 8.8's) because I get great performance on Crysis, Cod4, Bioshock with 8xAA Edge Detect. This is a massive dissapointment as Arma was a big reason for my upgrade. The features with most impact are Shadows (even on low they wreak havok, bad coding imo) and postprocessing. The features that are, coincedently, also the best looking ones. Haven't had slowdowns to 2-3fps but it has been unplayable on higher settings. And my resolution isn't even that high.

Hifi Sound FX V1.00 Released
Ateryu82 replied to Mark XIII (DayZ)'s topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
The high dynamic range sound system has been in from the beginning. Â Surrounding sounds have always been deadened by loud gunfire in this game. Â Maybe BIS just increased the volume of the tank cannon in 1.14? Â I must say, I have experienced this since playing the demo. Personally, I like having a realistic range of volumes, and I think these psychoacoustics good. Well I've been playing Arma a lot since the game came out and I have difficulty believing your statement. Either this was introduced in the last patch or it was greatly increased by it because I never noticed it before 1.14 It's also not realistic at all, it happens quite randomly and often also occurs when you are flying a helo and there is a .50 firing on the ground. Come to think of it, I think I've only noticed the volume dropping on vehicle sounds like tanks/hummer/helo's. I don't think I've ever experienced this 'feature' as you call it in infantry combat. Not with nades exploding around me or artillery or a SAW being fired next to my ear... Perhaps it's a feature to improve VoIP somehow. Whatever it is it's EVIL and must be stopped. @Mark; I'd happily sign that petition mate. -
Hifi Sound FX V1.00 Released
Ateryu82 replied to Mark XIII (DayZ)'s topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I really like this new version Mark, well done. Haven't even tried the warfare version yet. If I had to make 'suggestions' I'd say the sukhoi jet sound is too weak. Just as I had abandoned all hope on something close to realistic jet sounds you guys surprise me with some nice A10 sounds. So I hope the other jets will get updated soon as well. Imo, it's more important how it sounds from the ground when it flies past then what you hear insinde the cockpit... The other thing is the temporarily dropping of volumes that was introduced with the 1.14 patch. It really breaks immersion and I hate it. One that is very persistent is when firing the board cannon in an M1, the engine sound will drop to almost inaudible levels. I know it's not your doing but maybe you could look into this since it borders on your department shall we say. edit: does this mod solve what I mean or is it for something else? not really sure and can't test it myself. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=74330 Oh btw, the new firing sound for the m136 rocks! -
Aw crap, the choice of soundmod is getting difficult now. I've used HiFi and love it but these sound great as well... One nag though, is it possible to create maybe like 5 different explosion sounds for when you blow up a vehicle? It's kind of annoying and not very immersive that every time a vehicle explodes you hear the exact same sound. I also think the sniper rifle shouldn't be firing tracer bullets, even if it can.

Hifi Sound FX V1.00 Released
Ateryu82 replied to Mark XIII (DayZ)'s topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I don't think it's that. I've had it occur a few time while flying a chopper and gunfire would sound outside... I switched to 1.14 at the same time as the latest version of this soundpack. So I don't know if it's 1.14 or this mod, anyone can confirm this happens without this mod at 1.14 as well?
