  1. Its not working for them either, i asked them. There is always someone on the server, who is an admin, and he is changing those few maps manually (which they made themselves), with the console they said.

All reasonable points there, no question. Nevertheless the things you tried out should not be deceisive factors for purchasing it.

The actual Game itself works fine in mulitplayer, and this in a complexity of variations no ordinary gamer could ever imagine. After all this is the reason why many of us play it.. with different addons and mods every day. There is more than you'd ever have time for.

Question the graphics, the performance or even the AI based on the demo, but dont judge multiplayer. That would be absurd.

You are right to ask "whats the use of a demo if it doesnt support all these features". Your friends may blame it on the demo, but should not judge the game on it. You are missing out the real soul of it.

  2. Joystick questions:

Can anyone tell me if the game supports joysticks with multiple hat switches and lots of buttons which can all be re-mapped to various functions....OR....does the joystick's controller-software need to be running in the background to do this?

Also, could the joystick be mapped to replace the standard movement keys for infantry ? I know keyboard is usually better for movement, but I sometimes have problems with my hands that makes it difficult.

Thanks in advance for any help !:)

Narsil, I was able to remap ALL of the keys of my joystick without any software even installed. As for infantry I dont know, but for cars that worked fine once I tried.

  3. Albert there is a problem with this in OA. There is an unofficial fix but OpticalSnare is working on the new version already.
    ^

    Roger! thanks a lot.

P.S: you are right, just checked the comments on ArmAholic and there I should have found my info already. Anyhow, thanks for not yelling at me. I would have deserved it ;)

  4. I tried to screen through this thread as good as possible couldnt find my issue:

Tanks/vehicules burn far too fast. I am not saying that this is my personal taste. The flames are basically flashing, the smoke is shooting into the sky. A bit like setacctimex20

I only have the common sound mods: VOPSound; Tango Romeos Tracked Vehicles Sound Mod, Robert Hammers Heli Sound Mod and MarkXIII's GAU8 cannon sound version compatible with my fixed wings module. (CBA installed also)

  5. Ha ha, that's cool :)

Are you constructing a new Arma 2 website or something?

I realy dont know. I only was fooling around with my new website style. I guess it will have an ArmA section, not sure yet. I dont plan anything particular other than presenting some personal vids etc.

I tried to create such a map but not based on the one in the editor but real ingame (bird view). With the help of some good forum members here we created a script that took the screenshots automatically while jumping from one cluster to the next. So far so good. But unfortunately the clusters didnt quite fit together. I guess because of some strange phenomena of perspective. Mission failed.

  6. the game should run fine even without Beta patch, anything else would be absurd. But without you having the CD key to re-install the game we cant realy assist you with troubleshooting and advice. The key itself is not stored on the DVD (as far as I know) so this is no solution.

And yes, it sounds very fishy so you cant realy blame us for being sceptical. Who throws away the "protective" box of a game, especially if it doesnt run well and could be returned to the store?

Furthermore, once installed I'd certainly remember where the damn key was written on.

and even if i had the game pirated i still wouldn't buy it....
That's quite a weird und unconstructive statement.

  7. This is actually a very important question to ask, especially in terms of "product positioning". I think BIS is fighting the wrong battle if they try competing with the common products out there on the market.

OA is good, but for the average gamer still not good enough in terms of graphics and simple gameplay. BIS is trying to please this largest target group but they dont succeed. Simply because the game isnt made for it. This desperate attempt to be mainstream fails every time. Only the true ArmA Fans know and forgive this mistake, because the see the true potential.

ArmA2 is not a game, it is a vanilla engine for people with a productive drive to create own content and to enjoy community made additions. They could sell their product without any campaign and the majority of the old fans would still buy it. If they would be able to create a product that is positioned between ArmA and VBS (in terms of price) then I think the main core of the community would go for it. The question then only is, what would you expect for your money?

  8. Hi Albert,

A PM has been sent. Over the past weeks we have mostly been playing Operation Arrowhead coops instead of Arma II, currently without ZeusAI.

    Regards,

    Sander

If only I would have know that. Yesterday at 11pm CET the server was emtpy. I tried to join (always worth a try) but due to password protection I couldnt.

Just PM me whenever you want to play a spontaneous mission on the evening (after work). I am always glad to join. And of course I am dying to see all the good old CIA lads again!!!!!!

  9. Oh come on, I doubt he would be using a bad copy and then posting here! (well if I remember some actually tried...)

Can someone here advise him a server that is pretty open and vanilla, so he can have a try?

zookcx, do you have a friend who could host an ordinary session whiyh you then try to join.

  10. Funny to see though that here in Germany most Game Mags respond to the first news as if this would turn out to be a big hit. I cant blame Codemasters, apparently they got a top notch PR team.

However the comments the game mags are getting right now are highly destructive and the authors of it are trying to safe what there is to safe. Desperate attempt considering the amount of angry posters! Codemasters better bring on something good this time or they are out of the genre forever.
