USA Politics Thread - *No gun debate*

Palin didnt even have a passport untill recently. You are not seriously implying that she has "the same" amount of foreign experiences as Obama? Experience in foreign affairs starts with traveling when you are young and learning to interact with other cultures. That was what Bush couldnt offer and neither will Palin. Obamas interaction with the outside world started when he was dragged to Jakarta for something like 4 years and went to different schools with different backgrounds. In my eyes a very important precondition to become cosmopolitan. But as we know, among conservative voters you are unpatriotic and a terrorist-sympathiser if you dare to leave the country to study in Indonesia. Therefore seven out of ten comedians want McCain and Palin to be elected in November

Ingram, so you do have experiences with Active Sky X and X Graphics? I dont need some edited screenshots, I rather prefer a few short sentences that describe your impressions of those two expansions. Can you give us some feedback?

    Google joins the Browser Wars

a competitor for firefox? Maybe not in all areas. No other browser offers this broad variety of addons, especially for site builders and all who "actively" work on the net. Firebug,FirePHP, WebDeveloper, DownloadHelber, DOM inspector all those are great additions I do not want to miss. Besides I am sceptical about the amount of browsing-information that floats back to Google. I have nothing to hide but I do not want to become a transparent customer.

OTOY and new Photoreal virtual World

some people here obviously seem to miss the point. Forget about silly 2ndLife kindergarden and think of the potential for a while. OTOY is capable to render all this on the server side. All it takes for is a 240kps connection and a mobile phone, and you are ready to go. And no, the footage wasnt prerendered. Approaches like this show us what the search engines of the future will look like. Do you realy believe a silly list of search-results is the end of the development chain? Certainly no! Just think of GoogleMaps as being a search engine itself, just with a different semantic approach. The semantic web is about connecting information of different nature and this engine is a pretty damn good way of passing it to the frontend. This might be the googleMaps of the future with tripple the amount of opportunities. Right now Microsoft develops a software that is able to build 3D models of existing buildings just by searching the web for photos. Just mash up those two and a city like NewYork could pretty rapidly be automatically modelled.. I think these are pretty interesting news and I implemented it into my blog right away.

    International Politics Thread

well this cartoon has a few flaws and a few unwanted implications. A) Ossetia obviously being portrayed as the child of russia here. Children are expected to do everything their parents tell them to. They have no legal voice, they have limited civil rights and they are not allowed to sign contracts. So yes, Ossetia realy is a child, but is it the of russia or that of Georgia. In reality it is the child of both. Russia and Georgia are liked a divorced couple and Ossetia like the child without a real voice, Â too subjective and corrupted by cheap presents. Â B) Â Incorrect, Ossetia still belongs to Georgia as Bavaria belongs to Germany. Just because people want independance does not imply that they have the right to get it. It is pretty ironic that a country like russia defends the right to "vote" and "chose". Given the history of the USSR this position is not only higly opportunistic, no it is even impious. The ossetians dont want to be russian, they want to be independant. Is a child independant? And is handing out free russian passports realy an indicator that russia wants Ossetia to find their own will.

If they want independence - let it be. If they want to join us - they must to decided it by self. Its their land, their history and their opinion. Today, we just keep they lives and punish Georgians. BTW: If Russians making a war - we even take a capital of enemy. We on the way right now http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/7554507.stm Saakashbili must be in prison, for killing 1500 Osetian peoples. http://cominf.org/english/ Sorry for troubles with my language errors 1500, that is an unconfirmed number and we know how the russian administration loves to fool with the press. Info sites? What info sites do the russians have that are independant? As far as I know 0,zero,nada,keine,pas du tout. If they got no freedom of press, Â trust them even less. And delivering free russian passports to the ossetians a damn good indicator of what russias intention is in this conflict. "Russian Peacekeepers" that definition is already a cynical joke by itself. Â And Kokoity... well he comes from a russian oil company. suuuprise. Fool your own people, they seem to love that, dont try to fool us. The whole conflict smells like rotten cheese.

    Flight Sims X/2004/lockon etc..

I got a 8800GTS SSC and a Q9450. I can fly with some of the highest settings plus additional tweaking with Nhance. The trick is to force the frame rate to be low at around 30FPS (you can do that in the settings) and therefore prevent heavy lags to occur. Also, since the second patch the game has become much more smooth and efficient. Only very complex planes and big cities (mexico city) make it dump to 11 frames forcing me to change the settings.

Top without using Nhance, bottom with! pictures of FS Global 2008 (no other settings were altered). These were random pictures I took while flying over mountains. I had no clue what the images with FSGlobal would look like in comparison. I will try to make better ones tomorrow wile directly flying through cliffs. real

    Flight Sims X/2004/lockon etc..

I mentioned "FS Global 2008" before, that ones realy makes sense. I would keep my hands off other expansion packs. I have three of them (mainly military) and most of them cause incredible FPS drops. I believe FSX is something for people that love to travel and enjoy the air-passenger feeling. I fly around all the places I have been in the past. Of course there is always a certain dissapointment if you found the GPS coordinates of your home, fly low and then only see a bush where there should be a nice middleclass mansion. But sooner or later tile proxy (import google maps etc) will work. Anyhow, the autogenerated houses, cars, animals, ships etc work pretty good to stimulate the imagination. So I am fine with that. To repeat myself, you only get the scale and perfection of FSX untill you invest time to learn about flying. Â For me the game started to be fun when I realy got into it. You dont get the level of accuracy and detail untill you learn about it. I bought a book to teach myself the basics of flying. Suggestions & Screenshots: FSX Sightseeing

    Flight Sims X/2004/lockon etc..

I know what you mean but the "being there" feeling in FSX is realy breathtaking (if you have a fast PC), so actually it does not require additional adrenaline components to be exciting. And multiplayer certainly is a blast.

I love the Cessna Gran caravan, old school without Garmin. I got this Safari-fetish. Everything that has to do with Safari turns me on and since this is the major plane in Africa I realy love to fly it (online of course). Unfornutely the plane my mom once owned when she was young cant be found for FSX (only for 2004), it was called a Globe Swift (capable to perform medium air acrobatics) and when I researched a little I found out her plane is still alive and got her in contact with the new owner. The last time she sat in it was 48 years ago. same model different paint.

    Flight Sims X/2004/lockon etc..

FSX is just great. The best gaming investment I made since years and one of the reasons I will follow my brother's footsteps soon and hopefully start real flying myself (if I can afford it). FSX has made big steps ahead as far as performance is concerned. - Modding scene is active, dont fall for the sites where you have to pay for content, the same is available for free. E.g. http://www.simviation.com/simviation/index.php (if you click on one of the addon pages you can easily cruise through them by changing the pagenumber in the address-bar. I havent found another way yet.) - Topography in FSX isnt so great and ruins a lot. FS Global 2008 is therefore a must (in my eyes) - use "Nhancer" to get FSX to look properly. Just google for the right settings and you will have a far more smooth looking terrain with no flickering textures etc. Makes a big difference - Learning just by playing isnt realy doing the job. Microsoft hasnt done such a great job with good tutorials. So I suggest buying a book that helps a little. I know two good ones: a) Rod Machado's "Private Pilot Handbook b) (german) Die Große Pilotenschule both books are highly informative and entertaining at the same time. While a) is a preparational book for real flying b) is just preparing you for the FSX. I can absolutely sugggest both and both of them provide more than you need.

    Radovan Karadzic sacked

illegal by laws but certainly not by morals. Â I am not a juristocrat, for me laws are and always will be imperfect. If ethnic cleansing does not matter then what does? Oh I respect it, but I am a talking about personal sovereignity and not a national one. But again, this topic was discussed a million times and I am positively suprised people still find the energy to tackle it once again.

My wish is that BIS has the money and the ressources to finally totally rework the engine. But unfortunately I doubt it. The engine alone could turn out to be a great selling product by itself.

Marketing is about understanding your customers and learning to cater to their needs and wants. So if the trailer was made for this purpose then we arent the target group. Simple as that.

I agree. Thats why I look at this entire discussion not to seriously. A little amount of humor may be allowed, given the how publishers are always eager to call their game to be the digital revolution of the 21st century. However I must clearly say that I was dissapointed to see that little was mentioned about the editor in all the eight page articles that were published about OFP2 recently. And that recently made me wonder in how far they realy target us, the OFP/ArmA freaks.

dont know what makes you come up with this impression but i simply cant get this video to link on any of the things in pre-release day of ARMA and for the realistic bit i have no idea, you cant say it is "realistic" because there is acturally real human on stage acting in it rgr? no, because the sniper takes out the guard on the tower AFTER the team has already goten inside the village. Such a blind guard doesnt need to be shot. So he is propably a collaborator and they shot him with a paintball bullet so the chinese forces dont get suspicious. Shortly after the village is being shelled. Strange... This was a covert operations and all hostiles were killed in time. So since the chinese probably werent informed about this attack (only the one dude didnt respond over the radio.. but thats no reason to blow up your own camp) it couldnt have been them shelling their own position. it is a odd odd story.. but then again.. who cares

Do I have to like the trailer? Â I mean before making such a Teaser with a team you sit together in a conference room and define the targets. a) what spirit/vision does the game represent b) who is our main target group c) what does it take to attract and convince them So here I am as a consumer giving replies a) fast paced action.. something like Battlefield2 action mixed up with OFP athmo b) I suppose casual gamers. This trailer puts emphasis on entertainment rather than anything else c) I expected something like seeing "me the poor soldier stuck in between". But instead I felt like "lemmings caught up in boom boom fireworks"
