The Battle of Huertgen (American spelling) Forest is not often touched upon because it was such a disaster. No American likes to think that lives were wasted needlessly, and since there were so many other battles that were victories, most people pay attention to them  - like D-Day, Battle of the Bulge, etc. It's also why many people don't pay attention to other debacles like the Philippines in '41-'42, Kasserine Pass and Salerno (or is it Anzio?). Oddly enough, Operation Market-Garden is still a pretty popular battle in the States, probably because we can blame the failure of that mission not on our paratroopers, but instead on Montgomery. Well, the theme of it was partially touched in Band of Brothers. it may have been a desaster but it still was a victory for the americans. sorry, even in German it is Hürtgen, my mistake (ü = ue).

    The day after tomorrow

~Bmgarcangel Actually it is impossible. The change of climate will mainly disturb the marine streams and this will be a slow process. What you see in the movie is a quick summary of what might actually take many many decades.

Many historians ask themselves the question why the americans value so little the battle of the Hürthgen forrest which is about 20km from my home. It was a shocking battle and definetly more GIs died here on D-day.(55.000 americans and 13.000 germans died for this strange mission. The americans assumed the germans would blow up the nearby water-reservoirs whereas the germans say that with the american force of armoured vehicules they could have easily surpassed without bothering. Around my city and especially my house which is near a forrest you can still easily find bullets, helmets, bellts and other stuff. Shortly after this battle the germans pulled together their last amoured forces and tried a last counterattack. It suceeded partially and the germans left behind a trace of masacred civillians. But when the americans blew up the fuel depot the germans tried to reach the attack stopped and the last big battle was over.

Yeah, but on german TV they are saying that we won the war. Very confusing..can someone put the facts right for me please? Â Â Â Â No seriously. We have seen some great documentaries during the last week, invterviews of soldiers that stood face to face against each other and tons of new film material. Very touching

    The day after tomorrow

The day after tomorrow is as realistic as troy (Troja). both twist the facts majorly Hollywood style. Both are german stage directors. One made independance day before and Gozilla so we know what to expect from Day after tomorrow: nice catastrophies, little stories of individuals struggling to survive. It is fun if you got 2 hours to waste. Troj however. Big historical rape. Embarassing for someone who made the "Das BOOT" before, very very embarassing. Noone should ever accuse the americans again of being naive about history. A german stage director can even be MORE stupid and naive about history. And from now on an entire generation will have the totally wrong perception about the actual battle and the tribes involved. How the hell does anyone dare to make a film out this (one of the oldest) narative masterpieces anyway??? Â

And the realy disturbing thing is that in 90% of the cases we get shot because we are not cautious enough. During hard battle everyone keeps his head down. But when it comes to chasing the last surviving enemies..to proceed to the next waypoint...to enter a captured camp...

Hah, your screenie suck compared to mine! Seems Mr.T doesnt like his comics eh? Seems my parachute has a hole, I am overtaking them on the way down! Blowing up the base Oh shit, we better run away from this crazy guy Oh dear. I think this is what happens when Llauma sais: "we are penetrating deep into enemy teritory!" Llauma wants to make sure everyone is dead! Well let me guess, I think they are!!! What a bunch of freaks Who was this again? Bn880? hellfish? Nice cheat man, gotta get that one too! The ones of you that know the A-Team are also aware of the fact that B.A. hates flying. I hope you chained him to the seat BN880 giving the camp the rest. And the last soldier standing will then give BN880 the rest!

Help needed with unstable win xp

System restore does not necessarily fix an internal problem like that. Starting manually I mean seraching taskmanager in the system32 folder and clicking on it. Are you sure you started as Admin? Look if you have the process WUAUMQR.EXE running. this prevents taskmanager to work. It is a virus by the way. If you got Kazaa then delete a file called 44kb.exe. And make sure you delete it. AND then search for WUAUMQR in search. Delete all files. if it doesnt work rename them whatever.xxx (montage) and delete it when restarting! Dont forget to clean your registry!

Denoir, as much as I must agree with your recent points, but I have to insist that you declared that the ONLY monument to remember the fallen german soldiers should be the Holcocaust museum. That was a clear statement, that A) 100% blame on each and everyone B) dont remember any of them. Quite ironic that every country publishes tons of books and pictures and films about the hardcore Nazis, they will never be forgotten. History is right. You get remembered only if you were feared and respected.

That is a tough problem. First of all I want to say that my XP basically rarely freezes. Did you try running taskmanager manually? Did you try Winpatrol to see what processes you got working and which sometimes stop working? Did you reinstall the Explorer?

Back to the topic. Noone has ever asked to "honour" fallen german soldiers. But to put blame those that need to be blamed and not to forget those 9 out of 10 german adults of my grandfathers generation who died on the front. Crimes committed by german Wehrmacht soldiers? Sure! Forget them if you want, may they burn in hell! But I am highly sensitive to the term "Tätervolk" (nation of of the fully guilty). Celebrate your big ceremony of the "battle against the evil germans". No problem. Hollywood films and computergames? Dont bother me at all. Spit on the graves of fallen german soldiers, well if you like! Declare all deeds on the allied side as "justified"? If it makes you happy. Say that the only Monument of the germans should be the Holocaust museum! If it makes it easier for you to understand the world and wars well then so be it. I am not defending my national pride. It is not a "german" thing. It is me thinking twice before accusing a dead soldier. I have at least given those people the chance of explaining to me why they were involved in WWII and how they could ever justify it. And having done those face to face conversations I now look twice at a grave of a fallen german soldier before judging, and I judge them individually. But of course, any of you having lived in germany at time would have never done that mistake to be drafted and to fight for the wrong thing. No doubt, we are far more wise than the previous generations of germans. I think it is a genetical thing, right? But to understand what I am talking about you should at least have read "Lord of the Flies". Yeah we need to get over it. It is a german thing. They cant change it. You see a country with such a big national pride like germany would never understand it anyway. Just let them believe that all germans were warriors of the good and only Hitler was a bad man!

Hitler was refering to gas a weapon, yes he did. But well in case you would assume anyone would have taken that seriously then you should read Chruchills idea of using gas against enemies in the "Nash's Pall Mall Magazine", Septembre 1924 (nearly the same time as Mein Kampf) and far more brutal! And if anyone took it seriously, then how come that many highly honourable politicians with a jewish background gave their vote to Hitler during the 1933 "ermächtigungsgesetz" (law of empowerment) like Friedrich Dessauer, Reinhold Georg Quaatz. Or what about the Jewish organistations at that time? "Verein für die Abwehr des Antisemitismus",  (organisation against Antisemitism) didnt ring alarm at that time. They complained about the rising use of racism as political tool but didnt see any direct "authentic" risk coming from the new administration (Hitler).

The book was distributed during every wedding. Basically every household was forced to have it. There is no conceptual word about the Holocaust in Mein Kampf. But that is going off topic anyway. You could just stick to the crimes committed by the Wehrmacht itself! There were enough. Hitler came to power because especially the rich wanted him to win since he was the only antipower to the rising german communists. And he wasnt popular because he proclaimed or suggested the killing of all jews. Not interfering. Just keeping facts straight!

That's a nice song.. The recording of the vocals could have had a little more depth but I like the way you have mixed the genres. Good luck in the future! Yeah, worth listening to, that is not amateurish at all! But Llauma is right about the depth of the voice!

That is exactly what happens if we teach people the Black&White interpretation of WWII. Well done Dont give me that attitude pathy. And dont ever accuse my grandparents of having committed crimes during WWII. Or I seriously come over to you and stick a boot right up to your brain. None of my grandparents had any war involvement. One of my grandfathers was once forced to fly officers and generals in and out of the Kessel because he had a pilots license. But generally my grandparents were industrialists. My grandpa had a big mouth so he got an insider advise to better leave the country or to hide himself somewhere on the countryside. Well it became tougher so he had to escape with only a few belongings direction East away from the Nazi apparatus. And he was later on only allowed back into the american sector because of a broken jaw. He funded several social institutions during the war and with his and his families money an entire city was rebuild, namely Düren. A city that was bombed to ashes for no goddamn reason! Just for the fun of it. So what did your grandparents do to safe this world. Were they hiding in a cellar (insead of fighting) and now let the world celebrate themselves as the great liberators?
