Operation Arrowhead performance optimizations/comparisons
Albert Schweitzer replied to jpinard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Sounds pretty okay. However what counts is not the average Framerate. This is always painting the wrong picture of the overal perceived performance. You should concentrate on the lows/valleys of FPS. If your Frames sometimes drop down to an unacceptable low then this would be a reason to change something. (sometimes even 20FPS can feel acceptable) Just as a recommendation: I dont think shadows on high is necessary. I would rather trade more AA for it. Most people also have pp disabled. Also viewdistance could be reduced by 400-600 metres for infantry missions. But in the end this is your personal decision and only depends on your likings. One final note: the way you set the mouse settings also has a tremendous impact on how you perceive the performance. I put floating, head shaking and mouse flatting (are these the correct terms in english) to zero! -

Codemasters started a huge advertising campaign in Germany with the slogan "OFP2, Nothing for ARMAteurs!" Furthermore every interview representatives of Codemasters gave to computer mags were meant to emphasise the advantages over Bohemia's product. And it should be no suprise most main stream articles were published with titles such as "OFP2, the ArmA-killer?" You may say that from a Marketing perspective OFP2 was meant to build on the reputation of OFP1 but to widen the niche into a more main stream market. But in the end the punch word still remained "realism". So I disagree, the whole PR campaign was highly agressive towards the BIS as competitor. I was willing to give this game a try, but after this cheap and agressive approach I decided not to. -

I am very amused by the fact that wherever these news appear the comments are highly critical. It would have been good to have a valid competitor. But in the end it turned out that OFP2 was just meant to be a short-term money machine. -
ATTN NOOBIES! - New to ArmA II or OA - Here's the place for your questions
Albert Schweitzer replied to wraith_v's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Sounds good to me, I think you could even rise it to 1600. However, the problem is not the average Framerate but the one you get when entering cities or other demanding scenarios. This is the real bottle-neck. -
About time. Dont get mistaken, you might only get short comments for your videos, but I guess you are well aware of the applause we give when watching this. So here is my short tiny applause from Berlin. If you have a map of people you realy damn entertained for a few minutes then now please put a flag right into the heart of Germany. ;)

Nice cutting job there Litos! :)

1.) Official anouncement: No dedicated Servers ever for OFP2. 2.) largest german community site closing on January 1st http://www.operationflashpoint2.info/news.php It appears all that fancy Marketing didnt help.

Not if you are somehow involved in net developments. Firebug, Prism and other addons are something no other browser can provide. If you run a webpage then this is absolutely crucial.

The criticism about new expansions being worked on while necessary fixes are still not fully carried out is absurd. These are two totally different jobs for different types of specialists. Bugfixing is not something every team-member can get inolved in. Letting the rest sit around, that would be realy silly.

Well, like most of us I am dealing with several computers, one at work, one at home, laptop here and borrowed laptop for the weekend there. Whenever I use chrome it is by far the fastest browser to load. I am not blaming this on anything. My firefox is full of very usefull addons, probably this is what slows it down during startup. But I wouldnt want to miss a single one of them. But if you are on your desktop and only want to quickly lookup something then chrome is a terrific solution. And thats what I do 80% of the time, simple passive browsing.

jep, when booting you can start Chrome instantly after the wallpaper appears. Thats what I love about it too.

Crytec is moving so damn far beyond all competition. -
I came right out of office and checked the last few entries, I hope the following hasnt been posted before: apparently a buyer of OFP DR is sueing Codemasters for misleading and false advertisement for the game Operation Flashpoint: : Article in German: http://www.gamestar.de/news/pc/action/taktik-shooter/1959622/operation_flashpoint_2.html Corresponding thread in the Codemasters Forum: http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=388092 Justification by the user: http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=388092&page=4

I just find it highly amusing, that most Game Magazines have a hell of time trying to justify their criticism of ArmA2 against their former praise of OFP-DR. And trust me, right now they fail miserably. Reading the articles "ArmA2 vs OFP-DR" is pure amusement. Comedy of failure.

kindergarden?

Mind to give a credible source.
-
I am sorry to say this but that is part of the OFP concept. ArmA attracts proactive constructive people not simple entertain-me weasels.
-
Well so far I have heard only positive from Game Mags (tremendous suprise isnt it) and mainly negative from players (sounds are said to be good though).
-
BI, you should be ashamed of yourselves.
Albert Schweitzer replied to MarvinTheMartian's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
you know, I would think about your point if you were a famous mission/mod maker... but it doesnt really make that impression. Go for OFP2, probably a better game for you. Win Win situation for you as well as for the community. Criticism is absolutely fine, but your points about the superior OFP2 are absurd given the information available. -
Hi and welcome! :)
