(excuse me for saying this) How stupid! Showing solidarity by implying that these cartoons represent the general Danish opinion? Well I may assume it does not! We all have a problem now, we have to defend something stupid to validate something good! I stand firmly behind the freedom of press, but those cartoons are damn ignorant, silly and tasteless (I say this no matter what the reaction of the muslims would have been). And looking back at the german history, I must say these cartoons are a flashback in history and reminds me of cartoons of "DEN JUDEN" who were stigmatised as stingy, treacherous..and ungreatful. Maybe this is not what the author meant to show, but this the way it is being perceived And instead of seeing a jew with a long noose, dark rings under his eyes and a cigar in his mouth we see "THE MUSLIM (Mohammed himself)" portrayed as a suicide bomber! In my opinion it is the same tasteless approach.... so back then, would we have defended the Anti-jewish cartoons too, just because they were "somewhat" right? After all the common opinion was that the jewish community in Germany was wealthy and highly active in giving out loans with high(est) interest rates. But since we all know of the Holocaust we would never ever even think about posting anti jewish images (and this is good! But in the end this might turn out to be boomerang for our ideology because the ugly politicans in Iran might dig out an old Nazi cartoons portraying the jew as the one controlling our freedom of press. Would we feel comfortable having to learn that this Nazi stuff could also be part of our freedom of press? Again, I stand firmly behind the right of free speech and freedom of press.

Are you aware at all how this began in the first place last September? Check your facts. My comment wasnt about "how it all began", it is about a stereotypical muslim in the middle East who is shown these images and being told "this is freedom of press"! What would he think? This is not about facts, its a scenario!
-
I also believe that the drawings were unfortunately the wrong way to teach the muslims in the Middle East what the purpose of freedom of press realy is. I may assume that many muslims now believe that the freedom of press is just a strategy to insult and hurt the sincerest feelings of enemies without the politicians having to open their mouth. How will you ever convince them now that Freedom of Press has something to do with enlightment, a free mind, with expressing an independant opinion? Who would believe in these honorable goals of "Freedom of Press" if those drawings were the first examples of it being shown to you? I would definetly say to myself "what a goddamn farce this is"! And I wouldnt be so wrong about it. During this conflict we see most of our european newspapers honorably fight for their right to express their free opinion. But how often do we see one Media companies taking an action for injunction against the other, just because something had been published that did not please them? A lot of times! So at the moment we see a lot of opportunistic talking especially from representatives of the Media, but they themselves prostitute this right of Free Speech most, turn and twist it the way it is needed and desired!

no, your screen is just cheap!

good pictures desantnik! keep it coming!

Currently all options are still being on the table. At the moment the entire conflict is like an election, in which both sides try to win the undecided liberal and moderate muslims for themselves. If I understood it correctly it was an other newspaper who made the muslim community in denmark aware of the drawings. Probably because they wanted to harm their competitor. One mullah saw this as an opportunity and tried to make the entire media aware of this insult and upset his community. But he didnt succeed. So he went to the middle East instead, added some images to the collection which he found on racist internet sites and showed them to the muslim communities, claiming all of them appeared in a western newspaper. Well that part of the story you probably know, but what I find especially astonishing is the fact. That now, months later, a wave of demonstrations hit the middle East, and they are perfectly well organised. Demonstrations in Syria (noone survives a demonstration in Syria if the government doesnt want you to demonstrate). Demonstrations in Lebanon (by Syrians) and you see tons of muslims talking about western newspapers that cant even read or properly interpret the western seperation of church and state. And where the hell do all the danish flags come from. Of course I have seen some which were made at home but most I saw were properly factory made. Do you want to tell me that shops in the middle East constantly have danish flags in stock? Nah, these rather looked like they were ordered in china weeks ago. Again, extremists profit from the lack of education in their countries and use the most unsophisticated people their best demonstrators. And the west? we are trying to do it western style, we try to calm down the people that demonstrate instead of trying to win the hearts of those, which are still undecided!
-
Blake, do you think this will have an impact at all? This storm of rage in the middle East is mostly a farce, instrumentalised by the extrememists to share haterage. I mean even Nestlé (SWISS) is being boycotted. They will boycott any western product they find in the shelves and call it "danish". The worst and most embarassing step is to say: "wait, we are not danish, we are finnish". Thats like talking to an SS officer and saying "wait, I am not a jew, so can I leave my shop open?". You try to get out of the way and by doing that you make space for criminal acts, you basically become a tiny well oiled wheel inside this system! So even if these finnish companies were indeed danish, then would they be guilty of anything? Are all danish guilty? Thats a rethorical question and I know that you know the answer. Of course I understand that companies need to protect their markets of growth and relevance. So from a political point of view it is justifiable, however ideologically highly embarassing. Thats realy apeasment!

I fully agree.. I couldnt stop laughing and it reminded me of

Nice wording! Currently the muslim man on the street is demonstrating

I dont mean Bushs "mission accomplished" style. I mean for how long are our troops in the Balkans now? Even in afghanistan its nearly 5 years.. 15 years is not that much And concerning europe, I was talking about terorist strikes. Nothing is easier than to find an easy target here and not get caught!
-
My prediction is war in late 2007 combined with a cultural clash and constant terorist strikes in europe. This war will last approx 15 years! Being deadly serious!

"Vollhonk", lol, lang nicht mehr gehört aber genial es wieder über die Lippen zu schnalzen" It is incredible how fast the fire spreads. As you say they are already calling for a Fatwa, making it religiously legal to kill the originator of the drawings. But that doesnt astound me. However what is deeply frightening is the psychologie behind the demonstrations. Are the orthodox muslims realy only upset about these drawings? I believe it was Freud who described this phenomenon as a "stamp collection". Example: An individual has a bad day and tiny anoying things happen to him basically ever minute, to the outside he stays calm but the inside he is filling up with anger. Then during the evening he finally explodes because of another tiny disaster that happened to him. He shouts, throws things around in his room, pulls his hair..and all the other people around him wonder, why this small accident that just happened to him can make him so angry. In other words, there is no balance between cause and physcologic effect. Some silly drawings in a silly danish newspaper and we see embassies being evacuated? Is that a balance of cause and effect? Definetly No! So this thesis would teach us that the cause of the muslim anger must be hidden in the past. We need to look backward and count up all the things that could have made the muslims angry about europe`? Is there realy so much to complain about? I doubt it! So if there are no reasons to explode then Freuds theorie doesnt work. In other words, many of the demonstrators are angry because they simply want to speak their mind! I rather believe that the Mullahs are to blame for it, they simply want to break the last barriers between occident and orient, between christianity and islam, using any occasion that serves! The western voice is always interfering with the message they have for their people. And it troubles them to see how tempting western life is for their youth. That is why they call for and support these demonstrations. There would be no demonstrations without the Mullahs, it is far too organised and spreads too systematically, so there must be a network behind it! In the end the world will definetly see a last cultural clash and it will be fought in europe, in the Middle East, in Asia and it will definetly take more than two decades.

some people may say that you are still pretty young and there are still some essential books you will have to read before claiming that others may say that you, as an israeli, are routine blinded and that you lack a certain distance to judge issues objectively! but dont worry, thats normal here on this board, we all treat ourselves like that Anyhow, welcome aboard @ vektorboson: You are definetly not so wrong about it and I had to smile about your comment with "the wrong flag". I believe germans dont see the flag as the symbol of patriotism, thats all. "You burn our flag! boooooring
-
lets make a collection of our flags burning in Teheran I am not sure whether I should happy or angry about it, I mean bad PR is always good PR! Well I guess in the end I just feel indifferent about it! If your flag doesnt get burned in the middle East then you are nothing !

its getting confusing!

the reason why this thread is still open is because they want to keep forum members (potential marketing multiplyers) entertained... even if (or should I say "especially when" there are no news. It might get empty in here one day if they do it the Stalker-Way!

lol   as always the discussion is going nowhere. My latest opinion is, that unfortunately the war in iraq will make the americans learn the wrong lesson. In a couple of months from now the support for the war in iraq, and consequently for any war with american participation, will shrink to 0%. That is unfortunate because in my opinion we will still face some "real" threats in this decade. The US public is somewhat exhausted and tired of war related issues and America is famous for quickly loosing interest in an issue. BUT, the conflict with Iran will not cool down, the opposite is the case. But under current conditions the US administration will not dare to take a quick decision where such is required. Bush will not stress his voters with another preemptive strike. I dare to say that this will be the biggest mistake. The only superpower we have is tired of war but Iran needs to be dealt with quickly. I mean would try to convince me that diplomacy has a chance here?
-
Yesterday I was invited to my brothers home for a short dinner and we slipped into a long discussion about the potential conflict with Iran. We realised how multi-faceted the entire issue is. After the dinner I went home to check online what people here had written so far about it.Maybe I missed something but I was astonished to see that noone so far had opened a thread on this topic yet. Leaving the thesis of Nostradamus aside I believe that the world will not get around a military conflict with Iran. And considering the current, especially cultural, unstability in the islamic world, such a war would have the potential to infect the entire middle East. Do do you believe there are any options still left to get around it? Also, lets not forget the global importance of oil. China, the ever growing market, might be willing to trade weapons in oder to secure the goodwill of future suppliers. Hwo would be the first to strike? Israel? But who will govern Israel by that time anyway? What about the US? Are they capable to stress their national budget and manpower even more ? Will radical muslims finally decide to strike regularily in european countries? How will the world markets react, if OPEC is out of order? Lots of questions and worth to discuss about! To start this thing off, there are questions you could respond to? 1) Which alternative options to a military conflict are there 2.) who will strike first? 3.) What will a western coalition consist of? 4.) Which countries will be directly affected, which might "feel" culturally affected? 5) Impact on muslims living in Europe? 6) How will the world markets respond 7) What would be the human cost of this war? 8) Could it turn out to be final religious clash?

wait for Galileo! Then you can search for a lost coin in that area!

I meant the second, thank you. I will take those examples from Shinbusan and paste my images on top of it!

I will work through this thread on sunday evening and try to create some new faces... highly interesting and probably overchallenging! (even if I wont be able to try them out I guess ) BTW. are the pictures of GUBAS texture real size? Is that the image we can use as starting point?

Well for OFP a 9800Pro is more than enough! I was able to play most modern games at high settings with this old card. If you think about buying a 7800 then be informed that might have troubles running OFP. I do have these problems but the reason could also be due to the fact that I use a X2 processor!
