BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S. troops psyched up on a bizarre musical reprise from Vietnam war film "Apocalypse Now" before crashing into Iraqi homes to hunt gunmen on Saturday, as Shi'ite Muslims rallied against the U.S. occupation of Iraq Article

is a Republican way of seeing things. Unfortunately the world is not alway yes or no! Â By this stage of the Iraq-war I hoped that some of the over-optimstic should have learned that. Did Saddam provide us with proof of WMD? No! Did he have to, YES! So what? The whole reasoning to attack Iraq was nothing else than a "feasability study". Yes, it was likely that Iraq stores weapons of mass destruction" But the probability is no proof. And as you might know there are some very optimistic feasability studies and some very pessimistic ones. And then there are the ones which are biased. All they do is to persuade instead to convince. And this is what Bush and Blair provided. They provided some recycled information, up-sexed it and sold it as the OFP-GOLDEN-PLATINUM 2000 ULTRA VIP LIMITED (directors cut) edition! More fundamentally, most Americans still do not accept the critics' premise. One recent poll found that a third of the population actually believes that weapons have been discovered, even though the best investigators have come up with are a couple of vehicles some experts say might have been mobile bio-weapons laboratories. According to a Gallup survey last week, 83 per cent of Americans believe Saddam was developing nuclear arms, despite no serious evidence to support that view. But some people buy any shit that is sold to them!

LOL. Any of you guys heard of the Chevy that miserably failed to sell in Mexico? The "Nova" . This is no yoke...you can find that story in every goddamn Marketing book. Awesome, isnt it??? -
No! In times of war you have to make clear that you are strict on imposing rules and order. Otherwise there is no way to succeed in the long-term. To a certain extent I believe shooting into the crowd can indeed be the right solution! (sounds barbaric I know, but lets be realistic) I beg to differ. Ruling with an iron fist does not realistically help control order, as you only make the Iraqis more willing to resist. incorrect. The Saddam regime was one of the most "stable" in the entire middle East. And guess what, this was only because Saddam and his sons ruled the country in the good old Pinochet style (or Pol Pot). The amount of mass-graves are probably the best indictator of the brutality of the system. And it worked so smoothly for such a long time. Iraqis are not used to resist..they never had the liberty. The only problem that they have right now is liberty itself.
-
the most important thing now is to make the Iraqis respect the new authority. And this only works with determination and an ironfist! Believe it or not, but the anarchy right now in Iraq is causing by far MORE deaths and destruction than a few shot demonstrators.

A donkey in spain is called "Pepe" (at least that is the best name you can give your donkey) or call it George  For those of you who speak german. Tell me the difference between a Muli, Maultier and an Esel? Hah...you people know everything abstract but if I would take a walk with you through a forest and I would ask: "what is the name of this tree" you would probably all fail miserably -
Funny enough you are right! But the last battle against a superpower chopper is slightly silly >

handcuffed? If I would be an Iraqi I would better think twice before letting anyone handcuff me!

Reminds me of the story in Afghanistan when US soldiers were accused of observing the mass-killing of Taliban prisoners by coalition forces without interfering. Â Clean war? Your perception of this war is based on the influx of information, and this information has been carefully filtered beforehand in order not disturb anyone in your cozy american neighbourhood! (just kiddin). Clean? Do you call the following clean?

Well, with a few thousand soldiers based in Iraq I guess it is kind of statistical logic that some "cross the river of Hades" once in a while. Same could happen if they would be back in the US. Car-accidents: Sure Drowning: Drunk people do crazy things Accidents with loaded weapons: Thats fore sure!

Very true. I assume the german public holds the same attitude. The german army is undergoing a restructuring process. Many Leo2A tanks dont work because we simply dont seem to use them in these days. My friends that were stationed in Mittenwald however told me that they had relatively new equipment. And germany has indeed heavily increased and modified the variety of its vehicules during the last years. (See Panzerhaubitze 2000...no US tank can keep up with the same firing-rate). But I guess I am going offtopic. Concerning those soldiers I am pretty sure that the families are proud of them and they can be. They died on a peace-mission!

opsss, seem to have forgotten some Anyway, the list continues: "Has the regime of Baghdad decided to remove from Iraq the Weapons of Mass Destruction? Clearly not..." Colin Powel Speech at the UN Security Council 7th of March 2003 "There is no doubt that we have proofs and information that Iraq has WMD's, and especially chemical and biological ones; all these will be revealed during the military operations, for as long as it takes" Ari Fleischberg Press conference 12th of March 2003 "There is no doubt that the regime of Sadam Hussein possesses WMD's. And as long as these operations will be continued, these weapons will be revealed along with those people who constructed and keep them" General Tommy Franks Press conference 22nd of March 2003 "I have no doubt that we will find huge stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction" Kenneth Antelman Member of the Defense Policy Council 23rd of March 2003 “One of our main targets is to reveal and destroy the WMD’s. There are a lot of places†Victoria Clark Pentagon Representative Press conference 22nd of March 2003

Very simply, there is no doubt that Sadam Housein has now wepons of mass destruction" Dick Cheney 26th of August 2002 "At this moment, Iraq expands its production facilities of WMD's" President Bush 12th of September 2002 "If he declares that he has not WMD's, then we will know that he is trying to foolish the people for one more time" Ari Fleischberg 2nd of January 2003 "We surely know that there are wepons there" Ari Fleischberg 9th of January 2003 "Our secret services estime that Sadam Housein has the ability to make 500 tons of sharin, mustard gases, VX and nerve gases" President Bush 28th of January 2003 "We know that Sadam Housein is determined to keep the WMD's he has and he is also determined to make more" Colin Powell 5th of February 2003 "We have sources who reveal us that Sadam Housein has recently given the authority to the Iraqi armyto use chemical weapons - the weapons that the dictator refuses their possesion" George W. Bush 8th of February 2003 "The secret services of our government and of other governments leave no doubt that the regime of Iraq continues to posess and hide some of the deadliest weapons that have ever been designed" George W. Bush 17th of March 2003 "For typical reasons we concluded to this reason, the WMD's (as an excuse to invade Iraq), because it was the only reason to which everyone could agree" Paul Wolfowitz Interview to Vanity Fair 28th of March 2003...

Yeah, but I fear we will first need a few versions of 1.1 1.2. .....1.1 beta..... 1.99999 . Right now there is too much debugging that needs to be done!

And they dont even need to be professional. I remember the satelites photos during the UN-council. There were 2 and they were called "before" and "shortly after". But in reality shortly after was at least"4 weeks later". Or the picture of a decontamination vehicule which turned out to be an oridnary fire-truck!

Yes Mr. Schoeller. I agree. But at least we have a justice system. And Germany so far is the "most sucessfull country" (NYT) in giving trials to terorists of 9/11. And we already closed most cases and put them into jail. (while many innocent are still being treated like xxxx in Guantanamo Bay). Why should a suicide-bomber be afraid of the juridical system? I would rather assume they are not afraid of anything. Why Al-Quaida was in Germany? Because Germany is a country with a massive Arab community (while UK is rather Indian, pakistan.... and france is rather Africa.....). Deutschland is not only a good place to recruit but also to be left alone since germany was obliged after WWII to give exclusive sovereignity to its minorities. BTW: Suicide Attack against German soldiers in Afghanistan: Well those german soldiers were on their way to the airport to return back home to Germany. What an ugly coincidence. On the other hand they were lucky to wear their flak-vests cause otherwise the death poll would have been much higher!
-
Damn it. 3 german soldiers killed and 10 wounded this morning in a suicide attack in Kabul/Afghanistan!
-
Now I am absolutely serious about the following: The first man to fly was a german....and that exactly 3 months before the brothers wrights! There was a long long article about it in yesterdays newspaper and I will tell you the details later!

No, clue! I was on a visit in the local mosque where I was invited by a very kind man..his name was Mullah Tarek or something..and he was kind of important cause he was the only one to drink out of a silver cup and his beard was kind of grey and long. Well anyway he said he liked young people and thinks that hobbies are important to develop professional aspirations...and that he would like to help me funding my hobby and then he gave me something in a box (made in N-Corea) and I should start with this. But I shouldnt try it out in the backyard but wait untill he tells me where and when the time has come. He said he would first need to find a safe place to blow it off so my parents and employer would not find out. And then he asked me to take the exit in the back and I should not drop the box cause he scratches would look ugly!

Arent the Iraqis not entitled to a 2nd amendment? I thought that the republicans consider the right to bear arms an important piece of democracy. And I remember that a jewish organisation claims that gun-laws are made to surpress and even enable genocides. Still, I am not surprised that those organisations now dont defend the right of the iraqis.  And Balschoiw is right when he sais that the current US administration in Iraq is doing a miserable job COMPARED to what has been promised and the time they had to plan ahead. But the war was priority number one (and much more fun to plan). Please dont be so rude to claim that all efforts now being made in Iraq are organised by the US government. A swiss RED CROSS (you wont find anything more independant than that) has found that lots of the current aid and help stems from aid-organisations (e.g. Red Crescent) and ..surprise...surprise from surrounding countries such as Syria (SARC) and Iran (ICRC) (whoa!!! axis of evil.... the devil himself spends money to save starving children??? how is the US media gonna explain that?). Have a look around the Original Red Cross / Red Crescent Site and you will see that suddenly after the war all american "war heros" seem to have become invisible, at least as humanitarian work is concerned. But instead you see people from the Axis of Evil and Swiss- Cheese-Eaters doing the job which Iconsider as the real heroic job. 111 million swiss francs immediate injection into iraq to assisst 300.000 people, that in my eyes is better than knocking down dictator-statues. Of course financial aid for Iraqi people might cost each american citizen a bit more than an american flag (obligatory after 9/11) and a T-shirt with "I pray for our soldiers" . And of course a big bill kills all the self-orgasmic patriotism. How boring. War can be such a nice drug! After all they should be happy we freed them. Nothing is more important than freedom, right? And for those of you who didnt get it. The end of the sanctions is NOT helpful at all. It will be disastrous for the most vulnerable, particularly if the UN Oil-for-Food programme is disrupted. Before they were at least able to fire-fight the most extreme cases of poverty...now the whole bush is burning! The US (each and every voter) has turned Iraq into a modern day Carthage where innocents have paid a heavy price for US ambitions. If the US administration thought about little nice slogans like "Our world humanity was recently touched and scorched by the buttons of America’s weapons of mass destruction. The freedom slogan, "preemptive war" why couldnt they also come along with preemptive-aid? Maybe it was kind of too abstract!
