Is it so expensive to supply Baghdad with electricity? Damn I am in the wrong business!

That I believe that when the american forces have left, when the Iraqis are free to decide who and what governs them, when the iraqis are free to trade oil in euros or dollars, when Saddam is captured and the Baathist party destroyed, and when a new government is able to control religious diversity as good as Saddam was able to do.

    Far cry  game

Arcadish is the right word. A german game with an english name and a hero with an english name is nothing else than the attempt to copy successful international games. Sounds nice, the graphics are probably well done but to mee it looks like Barby & Ken!

nonesense. Most african leaders definetly dont want a european army taking away their power (see Mugabe) but  in contrast to the extreme muslim countries in the Middle East african appear to welcome foreign troops. I guess they have less cultural/national awareness/pride! I think the recent example of french troops intervening in Africa dismantles your point anyway. And the long british colonial experience could be ovserved in the Iraq war too. The british appeared to approach battlefields and enemies in a far more experienced way than the americans did.

    Eu- advantages and disadvantages

One thing is for sure. I have to travel a lot and nothing facilitates this terrible obligation more than a EUROPEAN PASSPORT. You show it and people let you pass or give you the necessary stamp without even checking the picture!

    Joint eu military

I have read the entire 12 pages up till here and it is a realy damn interesting topic that is! To calm down all opposers to a joint european army one could come forward with the argument that: A joint EU military force could reduce the responsibilities and workload of the United States to act as World Police. Being the only superpower this is not a self chosen job but imposed! A EU could intervene without the presence of US army infrastructure. In the future we can not be sure that the US is always able to provide as much resources as in the past. Especially right now too much of its potential is allocated for the war against terror. Furthermore is the defense budget pretty sensitive and cannot cope with more operations. And thirdly we cannot always expect the americans to support a war. Clinton already had a hard time explaining to his people why Jugoslawia was worth sending troops. Considering the Colonial history of France, Britain, Spain, Holland and Portugal we, europeans, have more peace-obligations in Africa than the US. In the future, that continent will be our homework. We will not only have to pay for eurofigthers but accept bodybags returning home. And for that purpose you better be prepared and ensure good hardware and compatible european command policies. Never been a better time for a EU force. This time we unite proactively and not, as it has been, reactively!

Ok, back in loops! We can chew the discussion about the past over and over again, but it doesnt make this thread more interesting. I could just post ... please read page 21.....please refer back to post 29939441. Sad enough that many of TBA only know to defend their present actions by hitting on past actions of other nations. There is time enough to discuss both..but seriously I get bored cause I think we already digested the PAST chapter, didt we!

The americans should be happy that it was France who supplied the illegal weapons. Probably that is the only reason why so few americans got killed, none of those PRODUIT EN FRANCE turned out to be working. I mean how are workers supposed to build complicated weapons if they are allowed to drink WINE in the lunch break. Before the break maybe but after... I wouldnt like to be pilot in the new eurofighter if I knew the wings and the jet-turbine were made in France  ...  and probably installed after the lunch break! Â

LOL are you saying France sold Iraq Nukes or chemical weapons? we've done some nasty businesses with iraq in its good period .... we may not have sold complete or real weapons , but we've sold components and materials which could be used to make those .... just like most western countries did back then .... The only reason why you didnt sell them more is because the Iraqis didnt want it. They are smart people and know how to value GOOD QUALITY! That is why they bought so much illegal staff MADE IN GERMANY Â Aehm, Hoboman, I am not trying to offend you either but that is a pleonasm. Say you are proud to be american or an american patriot but a proud american patriot?....Have seen that before on several times on the NRA forum !!! Â Just kiddin... They knows my ugly cynism! Not meant to be evil or agressive Â

Yes, that link and the photograph of the interaction with terorist organisation were not fake but misinterpreted, simple because the people observed were not the ones we thought they were. The only link that CAN be made is that Saddam financially supported families of palestinian suicide bombers. The legal question now is whether that can be realy considered as sponsoring the terorists themselves! I would say in a western court a case like this would be clear. Not guilty in this specific accusation. And the UN is basically some sort of court, isnt it?

The world believes that all Americans are trying to save the world yes we do believe that. Or we believe that the mayority of americans has that intention. And it is very noble indeed. We are sceptics? Yes we are, cause we know that war and occupation is a highly complicated issue. In the end it is so complicated that basically no not even a single preassumption turns out to be correct. All media were wrong about Afghanistan. Everyone, including me believed the US would get slaugthered like the russians. Iraq the same, everyone believed the americans would be trapped inside Baghdad and be knocked down by treacherous house to house combat. Wrong again! But in the end we dont know what is going to happen. We dont even know if Iraq can still be saved. Not even with UN troops, not even if the power is handed over to the new Iraqi authority. It is so complicated that one must prepare for the worst in order to be suprised positively! That is the advantage of scepticism!

    The Iraq Thread 2

Sometimes it is astonishing to see the pressure some americans have to simplify issues. You are bringing up easy-life examples of "dogs". You are talking about facts, and you come forward with "let them to the job". Right now there is no simplification to the issue. It has already been oversimplified by TBA before the war and I propose not to do this mistake AGAIN. Now the time has come to go away from silly simplification (bring peace, destroy terorism, implement democracy bla bla bla) and move towards analysing the multi-dimensionality of the conflict. First of all be aware that people CAN HIDE! And in their own country they are assumingly better in their job than the foreign troops having to find them. Second, answer the following question: who has the longer breath, who can play with time? From my point of view it is the Baathists. Thridly, Americans by cultural heritage have a very small chance to be regarded as liberators by a muslim nation. Or lets put it this way: they are given very short time to proof they are liberators (or in other terms improvers). Fourth: Time heals wounds! But which wounds? The longer it will take to stabilise Iraq the more people will stop beliving in the occupators and the more people will fear Saddam might come back. Consequence: -> People will switch back to the old rules of the former regime. That means shut up cause every collaboration might cost you your life once the Baath Party is back in power. The best indicator for that is that the old Baathists are already back in power. Who are the most powerful iraqis right now? it is the ones owning and dealing with oil and it is FACT that the entire oil-smuggling business is organised by former Baathists. So who has to be patient? We, the world or the Baathists? As I said the Baathist are the ones that will profit from time not the US (not to speak about the costs involved with this conflict). And the longer it takes the more the bargaining power in negotiation will switch to european nations. The longer it takes to bring peace to Iraq the more France and Germany will grow arrogant. And all this not only to the disadvantage of the US but of Iraq. As I said. Some of you people think that time plays into the hands of the US, but quite the opposite is the case! Oh, btw. 216 days and still no WMD found in Iraq.

Placebo is absolutely correct. . Antivirus should be shut off and all this other funky stuff. Actually what I do is press ctrl alt delete and get rid of most of the stuff I see on the list (kind of suicidal since I dont know most of them). I was astonished how much changing the OFP setup already can boost performance without realy deteriorating image quality. Secondly we all know that some of the late P3 were faster than the early P4. But I disagree on the fact that not even the newest standard PC can run on Max settings. I am pretty much sure they can. Take this one for example. I would say it is relatively new one in an average shop in germany. I bet I could get a decent frame-rate on max settings! this one for example

As soon as possible an iraqi military force should be established. "welcome back soldiers" The logical consequence from this is clear. Former soldiers will be reactivated and soon the iraqi military will be guided and supervised by the same powers as once under Saddam. Â ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Why do people think its another vietnam? forgods sake, its a peace keeping duty right now, thats all it is, and we have hardly lost any soldiers. Â Say 1000, but hell, we gots tons of them man, even though every life is precious. Peacekeeping mission? What the hell? Yes and protecting the world from the establishment of a communistic satelite state was considered as a peacekeeping mission as well. It was called the vietnam trauma not because a certain amount of soldiers returned in bodybags but because Vietnam was a psychological desaster for the US. A war that was once proclaimed as absolutely necessary to safe the future of the world quickly turned out to be very bloody. But which way was there for the american politicans to retreat from this war? None! And in the end the war in Vietnam could have been stopped much earlier IF the ruling parties had prepared an alternative strategy of how to excuse a retreat in case the Vietnam war would turn bad. But they had not, and they were stuck. So is it today. The US is stuck in Iraq and right now there is no way for Mr. Bush to retreat and defend such a step in public. Just like in Vietnam a withdrawal from Iraq would result in thousand of silent executions. The Baathists would fight their way back to power with all brutality as they did it during the first time. Now listen to the following that had been said during the Vietnam war by the 3 presidents involved: For the United States, this first defeat in our Nation's history would result in a collapse of confidence in American leadership, not only in Asia but throughout the world . . we want to see a stable government there, carrying on a struggle to maintain its national independence. Kennedy or Bush? "We believe strongly in that. We are not going to withdraw from that effort. In my opinion, for us to withdraw from that effort would mean a collapse not only of South Viet-Nam(iraq), but Southeast Asia(entire middle East). So we are going to stay there." Oh this could be Mr Bush too! I had to think of the effect of my decision on the next generation and on the future of peace and freedom in America and in the world Our defeat and humiliation in South Vietnam(iraq) without question would promote recklessness in the councils of those great powers who have not yet abandoned their goals of world conquest. This would spark violence wherever our commitments help maintain the peace-in the Middle East, in Berlin, eventually even in the Western Hemisphere. For the future of peace, precipitate withdrawal would thus be a disaster of immense magnitude. A nation cannot remain great if it betrays its allies and lets down its friends. Ultimately, this would cost more lives. It would not bring peace; it would bring more war. The way of retreating/withdrawing forces from Vietnam was politically blocked after such ultimate statements. How would Kennedy have been able to justify a change in strategy? How could the next president finish the war without admiting a failure of the proud american military? (to end the war)...From a political standpoint this would have been a popular and easy course to follow. After all, we became involved in the war while my predecessor was in office. I could blame the defeat which would be the result of my action on him and come out as the Peacemaker. Imagine a democrat would win the next election. Could that democrat then easily withdraw all troops from Iraq without committing an ideological sin? No, Bush blocked the retreat from Iraq as once Kennedy did from Vietnam. And this is the difference to Afghanistan. The americans could easily return from Afghanistan saying that fundamental terorist networks had been destroyed, training camps blown up and their hideouts smoked out, job done! But the job in Iraq is done when the country is secure, democratic, free of terorism and open to capitalism. This is like turning Somalia into Utopia, and no way to justify a retreat. You havent thought about how to justify a change in policy Mr Bush in case things turn realy bad, have you?

Hell! Would you please welcome new members in a more moderate way  . We have time enough to verify what is being said, or do you already want to loose new contributors after 10 posts? I enjoy the fresh breeze of new members and I am not getting involved in this rethorical Blitzkrieg. (I wouldnt have the know how anyway ) So in case you are Marine, well could you please do me a favour and ensure that german DHL planes in Iraq are better protected.  ... ....and in case Mr Bush comes to visit your cantine too ..well then please get a plate with potato pie, write my name into it with your finger and throw it into his determined face. Now this is an expression of free speech isnt it, if I realy would like to harm him I would offer him a bavarian Bretzel. But you are probably lucky and meet Mrs Clinton. Shame enough a women has as much guts as the president., (ouch after this macho statement Avon is gonna stone me, and after that potato-pie proposal Tex will probably join her) And to bring some humor back to this thread answer the following ..what is written on this wall?

    The Iraq Thread 2

I read today that a pretty popular french magazine has published pictures of resistance fighters firing AA missiles at a german cargo plane in Iraq which was heavily damaged in that incident. Now the case is the following. The german press is accusing the french journalists of misbehaviour. Not because they didnt try to prevent this from happening (the pilots could have been killed) but because it is clear that the presence of the foreign press had motivated the fighters to proof themselves and demonstrate their power. The journalists knew about this ambitions of the Iraqis. Wouldnt they have followed them with their cameras they probably wouldnt have fired. Now when does a journalist get involved? We all know they shouldnt, but only the presence of cameras can change how people behave, even in war. Strange isnt it. In this case you could even say that it was a camera that shot a missile after a civillian plane.

    Computer problems

Good proposal. I think I will give the manufacturers a call first. At least then I will know what the computer shop actually have to do (and what they could charge me for). And yes, I agree, I wont fool around with my Bios anymore, I think it is indeed a risky thing. As Risky as fooling with the hardware itself! I heard a different solution which proposes removing the battery from the motherboard and the pins and then putting a bootable disk with the new bios. After two peeps I should then turn off the computer and reboot. Sounds very adventurous... I will take a few nights of carefull considerations and then take the important decision! I will declare war on bios-teror! Smoke the badbiosboys out of their caves and kill all hardware-pockets of resistance! AND ALL THIS BECAUSE I JUST BOUGHT CALL OF DUTY AND IT CONSTANTLY FROZE... I learned my lesson! ......mmmmmmhhh hopefully

    Computer problems

Thanks for the answers. I start to see the logic of this issue. But... Problem 1: I did not bother creating a boot disk Problem 2: The screen remains blank. It (the screen) doesnt even get a signal from my computer to turn on (it stays in sleep mode). Would a computer shop be abe to fix it? I have windows XP AND Windows ME on my system (I keep ME cause in case one of the two versions is damaged I can still access the other. It helped me out a lot of times in the past). So for which do I need a bootdisk (silly question I guess). Can a bootdisk from a different computer help. I am realy not a king when it comes to understanding BIOS and how it works. So I suppose the best solution would indeed be to bring the whole computer to a shop (or just the harddrive?). Â Â Damn it I live in Malta right now and I dont realy believe people here know what they are doing, not even the neirdiest computer neirds here! AND dont laugh I know my computer skills are realy realy limited and I should retreat in shame!

    Computer problems

I have a bad problem too. I did an Bios update and I wasnt aware that it might not be as harmless as changing the screensaver. Well the consequence is that my screen now stays blank! The fan is runing but the computer sais nothing (except trying to access a:) Any solution? In case I give it to a shop can they still recover some of my data?

I give you a good advise. Dont put your mobile next to your computer. I makes it crash and restart. Happened to me and I realy was scared that something expensive was damaged
  24. First of all .. NO!!! It is not just a plane that I came across recently on the internet. It was the first model plane I bought when I was young and since then I admire it's shape, sound and even the modest design. And concerning OFP you should know that it realy is a plane with history! History (no pictures) Does anyone admire this plane like I do (and doesnt know why ....like I do) Did or does anyone plan to design this plane for OFP. I am not naive so I believe the answer is no. Maybe OFP2 (who cares if it might be WWII). But what do you generally think about this plane. How long (working hours) would it take a modeller to create this addon. Just curious! what a beautiful nose!
