Marek stated in a thread in the "NEWS DISCUSSION" forum that a couple of complications had delayed the immediate release of O2. He stated that he would post more information concerning this matter today. Hey, just hold on, I have every confidence they'll get it to us eventually and it will be well worth the wait.

WoW!!!! Are you saying that you created the Objektiv II tool? Far out! I was afraid there was possibly some sort of licensing problem with an outside vendor which would throw a monkey wrench in releasing it to the world-wide OpFP Army of fans.

Can anyone complete single player mission ambush
Agua replied to MarcusJClifford's topic in OPF MISSIONS
Ambush... Is this the CD version of the demo? -
BIS' support is absolutely fantastic. THIS is what gamers want. I tell it on every forum, everywhere, whenever OpFP is mentioned. They deserve every bit of this credit.

There is MoH:AA and DoD 2.0. Neither do a half-assed job of providing a realistic combat infantry sim. The plain truth of the matter is that Gamers who like realism in a military related FPS, an entirely different genre from MoH, etc., can choose between OpFP and Ghost Recon. THAT is why I want to see the ww2 mods realized.

I don't - for me, Operation Flashpoint just was getting better with every new version. Unfortunately, the game is really big and sometimes new bug fixes have introduced some new issues (like the XX IS DOWN). Anyway, I believe 1.45 is well tested and it introduces so many important improvements that it's really worth to release it. And concerning the real topic of this thread: there are couple of things complicating immediate release of o2 and other tools. I'm going to post some information about it tomorow.<span id='postcolor'> Thanks Marek! Re - agreed on patch/bug point. Folks should have tried some of the early WW2 online patches: THOSE were some pretty crappy patches. As I've said all over this and other forums, the support you guys give to this game is outstanding and I appreciate it.

Uh.... you think a question as to whether anyone had heard anything additional was "pushing" BIS? I'm well aware that they have a lot of irons in the fire. I was simply asking if anyone had heard anything additional, as I'm anxious, like everyone else, to see some of these great mods turn into fruition (esp. any ww2 mods). best wishes

Not quite sure what you're asking here, but I'll offer responses to the two things that pop into my mind in response. If you're talking about custom faces, such as camo paint, or whatever, that you have chosen for the ID you play MP games with, yes the custom face will be displayed on everyone's computer in MP. If you're talking about addons for custom vehicles, soldiers, etc., each player must have the addons that the mission being hosted by the dedicated server is running. Hope this helps.

Any hint if we're going to get it this week [end of feb]?

Suma, Could you look at the files I sent you 2/18/02? I looked at my briefing and it followed the format you outlined above. It may well be that I have some addon that is creating the problem, as I have an awful lot of them, but if you could, I'd appreciate your having a look over the files. I e-mailed support and the e-mail would have been sent from Les W. Smith ("Agua"). Thanks in advance.

I got the same "warning" or whatever you call it, the first time I tried that editor. I then went back to the mission and included end triggers and short debriefings for endings 1 and 2. Â I am convinced now that it is not the presence or absence of anything within the briefing that I have created that is causing this. It's not the use of any "editor" or "template" unless every one of them out there available for public use is wrong as well and no one has ever noticed it, because I've made several attempts with EACH one of these out there as well as doing it from scratch. If your problem is the same as mine, and it sure looks like it, we need someone to look at those crash reports and tell us what the problem is.

Yup, its a crappy card. You ought to go out and just buy a decent one. Stay away from any Geforce with "MX" in its name - those are the cheapest and the bottom of the barrel of the entire line.
-
Thanks for your help Intruder, but that briefing generator is one of the ones that I used in trying to make my briefing (I believe I used two different versions of that generator, plus another generator, plus three separate templates - - same result). Does anyone know what we are supposed to do with those crash reports we posted here?
-
Re - Briefing editor - I've used Briefing Assistant and Mission editing assistant, and used templates from the official site, as well as templates from the OpFPediting center manual. I've tried each of these methods, several times. I do have six objectives, all named OBJ_1 through 6. Re - Flashpoint.rpt Here's what I'm getting: ===================================================================== == C:\PROGRAM FILES\CODEMASTERS\OPERATIONFLASHPOINT\OPERATIONFLASHPOINT.EXE ===================================================================== Exe version: Sun Jan 27 20:08:28 2002 file: Â Â ice, ice baby world: Â Â doeeden_snow campaign: battle: Â mission: Â ======================================================= Date: 02/11/02 Â Time: 21:36:23 ------------------------------------------------------- file: Â Â ice, ice baby world: Â Â doeeden_snow campaign: battle: Â mission: Â Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION Version 1.42 Fault address: Â 004AC8BF 01:000AB8BF C:\PROGRAM FILES\CODEMASTERS\OPERATIONFLASHPOINT\OPERATIONFLASHPOINT.EXE Prev. code bytes: 74 02 FF 02 89 10 C2 04 00 8B 54 24 04 56 8B F1 Fault code bytes: 83 26 00 85 D2 74 2B 57 83 C9 FF 8B FA 33 C0 F2 Registers: EAX:0099E600 EBX:FFFFFFFF ECX:00000001 EDX:0099E600 ESI:00000001 EDI:0099F7B4 CS:EIP:017F:004AC8BF SS:ESP:0187:0099E620 Â EBP:0099F600 DS:0187 Â ES:0187 Â FS:0137 Â GS:160E Flags:00010246 ======================================================= __ Is there anything that will tell me what this C000000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION or any of this crap means?

My God Acid! While I'm not getting an error message, I am having the EXACT same puzzling problem with missions that I create. When I add the html file to the mission.sqm in the folder, it crashes me to the desktop. I hope someone around here has a clue what is going on with this. Bump.

Here, try some of the tweaks on this site: http://avondell.com/ww2ol/main.html They're simple and effective little memory tweaks.
-
Another setting that works well is to provide a static virtual memory size, that is, set both min/max to the same size. Why, I do not know, but 2x the amount of your ram as the setting size seems to work well. Here is a short site with a lot of little memory tweaks that I use: http://avondell.com/ww2ol/main.html The guy created it as a help site for people having problems with ww2ol - undoubtedly the biggest resource monster out there. The suggestions work well for any game, however. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies folks - Briefing editor - I believe I used something called editing assistant and briefing editor - two utilities I dl'd from, I believe, the editing center, and the czech site (can't remember its name). I have also followed templates from a manual published on the editing center. I've created the briefing at least three times by each of these methods and get the same result. I know its silly but it really is frustrating to spend close to a week working on a mission, several hours drafting a realistic and detailed briefing, and then be unable to join the two. Avon - I haven't had time to check that yet, but thanks. I had forgotten there was such a file. I'll look at it when I get in tonight.

folder. I have created a mission and when I finish the briefing and install it to the User/Mission/mission.sqm folder, if I pull the mission up in the editor and preview it, OR if I save it as single mission, then try to load it from the single mission menu, it crashes. I have had folks who have done a bit of editing look at the briefing file and they can see no problem. I have sent the files to a friend, separately, and asked HIM to try and "export to single mission", he has the same problem with the mission. It occurs with every mission I create. Has anyone else run into this before or have a clue what the problem could be? It's very frustrating to put a lot of effort into both the mission AND the briefing and being unable to share it with the world because the briefing won't join up with the mission file.

I always try to keep my all my men alive when I'm in one of the missions where we are given command control. Shame that OpFP doesn't seem to give any credit for that feat, but rather, solely for the individual's frags.

As a military sim, flashbangs really don't belong in OpFP. Rogue Spear, which concerns a fantasy, elite hit squad v. terrorist scenario, utilizes flashbangs, however. Maybe you would be interested in that game?

1280x1024x32 - I have a 21" monitor and lower resolutions look like crap on my screen as well.

This has been discussed probably 50 times on the forum. If you would do a search you would find many, many detailed responses as to the relative strengths of each. But in short, graphics, effects, sound in GR are fantastic. Not bad in OpFP, but GR simply wins in this aspect. Damage modeling in GR is in some ways better than in OpFP, but in some ways, worse. Maps in GR are decent-sized, but no where near as large as in OpFP (due to the graphics details, computers simply couldn't run maps the size of OpFP with GR's details - maybe when we get to 20 gig CPU's/ 10 Gig ram it could be done). The orders which may be issued to your soldiers are not as detailed as are available in OpFP, and you can not operate vehicles in GR. However, in the context of what GR is doing, that is, portraying squad level combat in a forward elite force type setting, the ability to issue detailed commands and operate vehicles is not needed, or even appropriate. Multiplay - on strong dedicated servers, there is no difference in performance of either game. If you are hosting a game AND playing on the same computer, GR provides better performance. Support for OpFP has been simply outstanding. RSE has really provided no support at all, so far, BUT, the game has only been out two months and a patch is to be released on or about February 1. Like BIS, RSE announced last week that it will release the plugins necessary for modders to create new terrains. This is really needed because GR ships with only 15 maps. While tons of custom missions are available all over the net (and you can make your own with the editor), without the plug ins, we're stuck with the same 15 terrain files. Also noted, there are tons of "mods" or "addons" if you will, which make available all sorts of weapons. Both are really outstanding games/sims. OpFP has more of a sweeping military effort feel to it, while GR has more of a limited, small objective elite force v. bad guy feel. The two simply have different scopes of what they portray and an "either / or" situation is not presented here. I play both all the time and enjoy both thoroughly.
