    Pb with dedicated linux server 1.91c

    I had the same problem... I reinstalled from scratch and used the gnome interface along with xwindows options while installing so far i have not had the problem since.

    Laser in mp not working

    This is what I have found. These are all tested on a HOST LINUX server VERSION 1.90. situation 1: I pilot a oh-58 as CO and another player guns for me.. in our group we also have an AI apache... when the OH-58 player fires the laser designator the AI apache does not see it. If I am flying the oh-58 as CO and have an AI gunner.. in my group is an apache with an AI pilot and a PLAYER gunner, I tell my AI to fire.. the other player will get the laser target update. situation 2: I am a spec ops.. in a MP game.. and fire at the ground with the laser designator.. a red dot does not show up. If I fire the laser at a target.. and I have a PLAYER that is flying the apache... he will not see the laser. The laser only seem to work in MP if an AI fires it. NOT if a player fires it.     1.90f linux and segmentation fault

    Suma, I'm running RH9 with nscd with dedicated server 1.92 beta. Here is a log file while running the game: 18:32:45 Roles assigned 18:32:45 Reading mission ... 18:33:05 Mission read 18:33:06 Admin [iCM]-Moore logged in. 18:34:07 Game started 18:48:29 Player [iCM]-Moore disconnected 18:48:29 Admin [iCM]-Moore logged out. 18:51:55 Player Cpt Moore connecting 18:52:01 Player Cpt Moore connected (id=195) Segmentation fault [root@ ofp]# The game is running and then all of a sudden I get a Seg. fault error and it crashes. This happens at random times during the map and I haven't be able to pinpoint what is causing it during the mission. -Adammo

    I just verified the bug: XP dedicated server version 1.92beta and found the bug. Linux Redhat 9 dedicated server version 1.92beta and found the bug So it appears that the bug is not O/S server specific. The bug only seems to appear when a human player is shooting the laser from the oh-58 only. If an AI is shooting the laser from the oh-58 the bug does not appear to show up.. (it works fine) ------------------------------- This is the bug regardless of the o/s platform, this is also regardless if the pilot is human or not. If the gunner is human it will not work. If the gunner is ai the laser will work. ------------------------------- I had gotten confused earlier because I turned the "sites" off on the server.. when you do this the diamond will not show up because it is also considered a site. -Adammo

    Well now I think I found a issue... it appears that the laser missions seem to work on Windows dedicated servers but do not work on linux dedicated servers. I tested the above and it seemed to be true.. anyone else interested in also testing this? -Adammo

    Opf 2 not gonna be released at 2004.

    I don't mind waiting for longer.. But I would really like a patch that included the "join in progress" for our current game. The xbox will be getting this awesome feature.. it would be a nice "hold over" for Resistance because of the delay.. If fact I would even pay for another expansion pack if the "JIP" was included in the release.

    This is not a bug.. it was in the game from the first release... if the driver turns out.. the gunners turret goes forward and he can not turn it. -Adammo

    Planes

    A while back there was a feature places in the patches that allowed us to reduce the turn radius on large planes. I would like to update the C130 with a smaller turn radius so that it would be usable after landing. Does anyone know how to do this with the feature that Bi implemented with the patch?   11. I have spoken with a few people about this bug.. they say it happens in CTI maps all the time.. I haven't tested it outside on a dedicated server yet.. but does anyone know if it happens outside of a CTI map on a dedicated server? -Adammo

    I have to disagree with you on this one.. please retest.. IN EDITOR PREVIEW MODE: When i fire a laser as a spec ops I get a diamond shape and and AI chopper behind me fire at the diamond. DEDICATED SERVER MODE: When I fire a laser in a MP game.. the diamond doesnt even show up.. and the ai chopper behind me doesnt fire.. because there is no diamond to fire at. btw we used to see a red dot.. why is this missing? was it taken out a while back? i miss it.. because at least you knew it was working
  13. This is a very annoying bug! Â I have the AI do TONS of things for me especially in the CTI maps... Bi please fix this bug... it is reproducable... If you are in a vehicle and your AI is driving or flying and the vehicle is destoryed. you CANNOT respawn... you get stuck in a death state and can look around but can't do anything else... I use my AI to transport players all the time.. and to go and get a player that has respawned back at a base... please add this to the 1.92 patch (along with the laser fix in Mp) thanks Adammo

    first of all... sit back and take a deep breathe second.. what operating system are you running your dedicated server on?  it matters if its linux make sure to rename all of your mission to small characters.. by default OFP editor places some of the file name in large... example  mission.CAIN.pbo  needs to be renamed to  mission.cain.pbo also, which version on 1.9x are you running for the server?

    This is the key.... you must do all of these tests on a dedicated server.. the issue that people will run into is that the "other" human player will not get the laser updates if all humans are clients.... It's a client to client update that seem to not be happening here. The HOST server will get the update fine.. but will not pass this back down to the rest of the clients. this is why the AI which is controlled by the HOST will see it. Also if a player is hosting then they will also see it..

    Kegetys, you need to run this in MP on a hosted server. i think it works if you just run this game off of a client. I think the issue is that the laser is not being updated on all clients via a hosted server. I also think this has nothing to do with the config on the lasers .. its a network bug.

  18. PVM is a freeware that allow you to hook MANY machines together to make one giant machine. PVM PAGE Many Universities use this method to do scientific calculations. I think that the OFP HOST servers could use this to OFFLOAD processing power to other machines around it.. Example would be to allow a OFP world the ability to run on lets say 2 or maybe even 50 pc's acting as one giant server. PVM is not for everything.. Example you can't use it to play a DOOM and make it run any faster... But for processing of numbers, which OFP servers is doing, this would work great. I noticed while monitoring my server using the #montor 5 command that once the FPS get down to < 7 desync starts climbing.. even though the output and input is still minimal. To use PVM the program needs to be compiled for it. That means Bi Studios would need to put in HOOKs that would utilize the ability to dish out processor power to many machines... all of the instructions on doing this can be found on the link above. This may solve at least the CPU utilization issues that OFP hosting servers hit when they get a lot of users online. This runs on Windows and Linux and can be shared across both platforms in the same OFP server Capt Moore More CPU intensive missions.... BRING IT ON

    I have to say it is a problem for be also... I would be nice to have to follow me sometimes or assign them to someone else... Maybe since I don't understand how this follow all works its very confusing... Another thing... If I assigned grounds (red, yellow, Blue) and them have them follow there Co in each group until reassign back to anther color. Anyway its very confusing, I've thought this a bug in the past but maybe its not.. and I just dont understand how it works or what is was designed for.
  21. I've recently found that my Linux box running the latest patches and before only ran half of the missions out there. After doing some research I found that it was caused by Linux being Case Sensitive. The issue is if a mission has scripts that are called or addon PBOs that are called and the case is different then the actual files. If the addon being called is spelled with all caps and the actual file is spelled with small letters then the mission will not load. Because of inconsistancies of mission makers spelling their code with both Caps and Smalls, causes about half the misisons out there to not load on Linux dedicated server machines. Capt Moore

Ok I need to post this to help others with the same issues. If you read above the file name MFCTI1.0.pbo needs to be renamed in small letters to : mfcti1.0.pbo (make sure you are ROOT access) The next step, got the OFP directory using a terminal telnet or SSH and in the root folder of OFP Mine was called OFP type: ./tolower this will convert any folders to files to lower case in that directory. when I ran it, it told me that 5 files where converted. Then type: chmod 777 * this will allow all files to be run/read/updated/executed and everything else in that directory. that is it.. now just run your server ----------------- to run it in the background type: nohup ./server -config=server.cfg then x to exit to the ssh session then you can close the session. or to run in the forground type: ./server -config=server.cfg to kill it in the background type: killall -9 from the OFP directory to kill it in the forground just type: CTRL-C ------------------- I hope this helps anyone else having this issue. and thank you very much MADTOMO ************ ISSUE RESOLVED ************** ************ ISSUE RESOLVED **************
  23. you put the "mfcti1.0 addon" in the RES folder or you put it in the main folder? Also do you know a way to create a NEW mod folder and just put it in there?  then kick off the server in linux so that it reads it? I tried placing it in the RED addons and no go.. also removed the versionrequired from the addon and recompiled.. Also removed all of the unofficial addons from the directory.. What version of Linux are you running, Im wondering if that might be an issue? I have REDHAT 8 here What tool are you using to compile the addon? I'm using PBOTool  version 1.01a What I think I'm finding is that this still might be an issue with the addons but I'm not sure.. I used Lady A FAQ site and removed ALL unoffical addons (she has a current list there) Then check security on the mfcti1.0 addon and removed the required version info.. What we really need is some sort of DEBUG mode so that OFP server reports to a text file when an error occures that stops a mission from loading.. we dont have this and it would solve a lot of issues.
  24. I can't get any of the CTi v1 missions to load. I also stripped out the "requireversion = 1.75" from the addons and still no go... Suma, any chance we can get better error reporting then just the server defaulting to the next mission? Anyone else have any ideas?
