Interview with marek spanel about ofp2

Err... My impression from that interview is that OFP2 will largely be a polished, tweaked and optimised OFP1. Three things the interviewer raised that I think are really important and the kind of stuff I'd like to see in ofp2 (ballistics, better armor modelling as well as air flight models) were all rejected by Marek.

    How many versions of HUMVEEs

There are a huge number of variants on the basic HMMWV chassis. That particular variant is known as the HMRAAM, and that is an AMRAAM FSPilot - an AMRAAM is 3.6m in length.

    Ai differences between cwc/res

A few days ago I decided to replay the original CWC campaign, using SuperAI. While it creates a few problems (e.g Guardian [iIRC] - the tanks you're blowing up kill your getaway vehicle because it wasn't stashed far enough away), it's a lot more fun. One thing I have noticed though, is that T80's in CWC will fire on helos. I personally think this is great, and makes flying a helo in combat that much more realistic and challenging. How come they don't do this in Resistance, when they should be both utilising the same AI system i.e SuperAI? Also, playing CWC vs the past few months using online Res really contrasted the terrains in both sets of islands, and IMHO the terrain in CWC is far more realistic and detailed; especially from the air.

    Ai differences between cwc/res

Lod limit/visual quality: .005 Viewdistance: 2500 All textures: 2048 terraingrid: 12.5 geometry performance: 6200 Since I was using the Resistance exe, the terrain was done in a 12.5m resolution for the CWC crisis campaign. It just looks far better imo - more natural and realistic. As for the AI - yeah it was the mission. Air superiority and Air Assault - tanks shoot at you in both of those, but not in other CWC missions like Escape from Prison. So - why? And why not all the time, becuase it certainly is better than tanks being sitting ducks.

Future careers..if you want to be rich, you gotto

I'm too pussy for the military, and I wouldn't like to be a grunt, so I'm doing a Bachelor of Laws + Finance at university. money = good *rubs hands* By the way, I agree that the capacity to earn large incomes is by far the greatest in finance and business.

    Ofp linux version

Regardless of what linux fans may think, windows isn't likely to be replaced as the desktop OS of choice for most users any time soon - and thus it's a simple question of economics. Why bother making a port for such a tiny minority? Especially when that minority could just dual boot.

Are you a marxist? do you want a revolution?

You're very generous John, but from my perspective I simply see close to half of my gross income instantly removed, for projects that will never benefit me because I earn a sufficient amount to use private facilities. Income redistribution is a nice idea in principle, and sure I support helping those that need it. In principle. But when it comes to the crunch, I would rather spend the money on myself than other people.

Are you a marxist? do you want a revolution?

I vote for h, I want a completely free market economy and society. Taxpayer funded income-redistribution social projects be damned, they're yet to benefit me but even so that's where 60% of the ~45% of my income that's paid in tax goes. As I see it, the only people who would want and benefit from a socialist society are those who would be seeing some income redistributed their way, you damn freeloading hippies Anyhow, in the real world we see that the socialist/communist politico-economic model fails because it sucks ass at distributing resources and ensuring efficiency because of the lack of incentive to better one's self, so why the poll in the first place? To determine who's the most naive, idealistic and determined to ruin the economy further?

    I'm losing it

I dream about OFP too much for my own good. I play OFP until I go to sleep often and the game carries over into my sleep, but in my sleep I'm even better because I can pull all the usual BS (nailing an Mi-24 doing 200kt with a LAW at 500m distance) but I have full freedom of movement. I love my OFP dreams, especially ones where I ambush tanks and so forth

Whats your favorite class to play for ofp

I play all of those roles, except medic (if they take hits, its' their problem, not mine) but I always carry LAWs or AT with me in case I come across vehicles or helos.

    The Forgotten Battles

I got around to playing this game again today, and I'm woeful at it The only thing I'm good for is level bombing using fighter-bombers when there's little AAA and no enemy fighter presence. *goes back to a real man's sim, falcon 4 sp3*

    Ofp2 set in vietnam

I'm fine with Vietnam, I trust BIS to be able to make another great sim and make a vietnam theatre enjoyable as opposed to the typical trash you see in games like Vietcong. A *real* Vietnam sim would be fantastic after all the stock-standard FPS albeit set in mock-jungle environments we've seen so far.

    W-buffer + 9700pro

You can enable it in tweak progs or through the registry, but when it comes to *actually* enabling it through application support, it won't happen because it doesn't exist on the 9700pro That's why you can't enable it in OFP. I can't remember having near as many z-errors on my Ti500 - for example, I often see the windshields of trucks in front of their frames when the trucks are only 50m away, and I never saw crap like that with the Ti500 I have 4xAA and 8xAF on Goob, which is nice but no substitute when you can see errors like the above.

    W-buffer + 9700pro

I'd really like to be able to enable the w-buffer in OFP, because it allows far greater precision in the placement of objects in the z-dimension i.e distance from you and eliminates clipping errors and so forth.. Anyhow, by default I don't think that the cats have the w-buffer enabled, however I enabled the w-buffer through the registry and yet I can't change the option to enable the w-buffer in OFP. Â I've tried changing it in game - nothing happens - and changing it in the .cfg file which has similar effects. Does anyone know how to get the w-buffer working in OFP using a 9700pro & cat 3.2? Edit: *sigh* Apparently ati didn't include a hardware w-buffer or 32bit z-buffer in the 9700 pro. Great design choice considering that 9700 users see zbuffer problems of ranging severity in 90% of games thx to that.

    W-buffer + 9700pro

W-buffer has nothing to do with antialiasing. Â W-buffers are concerned with the placement of 3d objects and textures within a scene, in the z-dimension relative to the player. Â Thus if there are rounding errors, inaccuracies and so forth due to a low resolution z-buffer, you'll see objects being misplaced which leads to crap image quality because objects are poking through each other and so forth. Berghoff - Apparently the 9700 has no hardware support for 32bit z-buffers or a w-buffer. Â Both were implemented in the 8500 but dropped for the 9700 so it will never appear in future driver releases. I'd personally prefer a watercooled GeforceFX right now. Â No driver hassles to worry about and similar performance. The ATI driver dev team are assclowns. When I had a DDR/GF2 Ultra/Ti500, new drivers meant more performance generally. Since I switched to the ATI camp, new drivers just mean the possibility of running a few games flawlessly while the fixes implemented fuck a new range of games up. By the way, there is no difference in reliability between an AMD and an Intel chip. Â With the latest mobos, they can be set to power down instantly if the cpu temp exceeds 60c, so the only possibly difference in 'reliability' is eliminated.

    W-buffer + 9700pro

I'll definitely be heading back to the Nvidia camp next time I get a video card, this 9700pro has just been a headache from day one. Virtually every game I own is plagued by one issue or another thanks to ATI's poor driver dev team and, as you said, the performance is hardly what I would have expected for a system that is close to the fastest you can buy. I'm using: 2400+ (running 12x200, so guesstimate 3000+ or higher) 512 XMS3200 9700pro at 330/350 8RDA+ And framerates in OFP suck ass much of the time.

    The Iraq Thread

OT, but I will say one thing in the 'political' Iraq thread. This media war, with footage depicting destruction, maiming and killing is a sad commentary on the perverse and disgusting nature of western society that a war becomes nothing more than entertainment for the masses.

    The Dogs of War

ABC News is also reporting that the entire 51st Division has surrendered, "which would normally total up to 10,000 troops gave up en masse" I re-emphasise what I said above. This video is amazing quality for a netstream, if only I could save it, as ABC updates every 30 mins or so totally replacing the videos available.

    The Dogs of War

ABC TV Australia is reporting that intelligence analysts believe Saddam to have wired multiple dams with explosives, in order to flood large parts of Basra and Baghdad when defeat comes. http://www.abc.net.au/broadbandnews/ram/news.ram "Saddam has devised terrible war strategy" Btw, if you're looking for a good streaming source, ABC news is it. Larger + higher quality video than most, plus the journalism is a cut above the typical cnn trash.

    Heat?

It was my understanding that HEAT rounds were shaped charge rounds, and the hemisphere of explosives transformed a metal slug into a jet of molten metal, which was travelling with sufficient/energy speed to cause the metal of the target's armor to more or less flow out of the way of the molten jet, thus creating a hole in the armor. Then the explosion and overpressures generated can flow inside the tank.

    The Iraq Thread

I also do not think that making references to god in the President's speech was an abuse of religion. What is heartening to me is the way in which even the anti-war movement constituents (well those with some sense) have been able to make the distinction between the soldiers and the government and support the soldiers while they disagree with what the government has chosen to have them do.

Finally some competition for ofp ?

Looks pretty lame to me It looks more like the cartoony BF1942 shit graphics than the gritty realism of OFP. OFP is about the only game I've played where teh environments seem realistic and properly scaled, such that you feel like you're actually on a mountain as opposed to a bump in a 3d landscape ala 1942/most other outdoor games
