Arma 3 and marketing (Includes appreciation)
{SAS}Silentkiller replied to Migeman's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Yep :D -
Something tells me that most servers would die with that many people!! But, split that number between 10 servers & you have people fighting for control of a map/server.
-
I feel that ARMA3 will have massive multiplayer potential, unless they go down the more MMO sandbox path like the DayZ MOD has done this potential will continue to be untapped. BI must not try to emulate other FPS games as this will fail, give people options of gameplay through almost no rules & giving players lots of unknowns, & making them work hard & making them feel rewarded for doing simple things (I love just navigating a group around with the map & compass & making it to where I expect to be!) But give them the tools to form unique groups with unique uniforms & names, and the game will blossom :)

I love the free form gameplay with the DayZ MOD & Rocket's breath of fresh air approach to developing, I saw a post where he said something on the lines of "I'm not going to try & balance the game, it's like trying to wean people of EA/IW crack!" I whole heartedly agree a player should adapt to the game not the game to the player & feel much better for it. I feel what has been shown so far by DayZ is that persistence of kit/loot is key to keep people playing, I think this can be modified only slightly to make a military survivor sim so to speak as follows: * No more zombies instead you have civilians, these civilians will make a lot of noise (throwing tin cans etc) when disturbed by someone with a gun (put your gun away & they stop, but make you vulnerable). * No more one solid faction against another, these are allowed to form naturally, everyone starts of as neutral to one another until groups have picked up enough loot to build a main (indestructible?) base, here they can store things, both personally & as a group (restricted to rank in that group?). *Basic loot (hatchet, knife, matches etc) can be found in any town, but to get loot to spawn to enable you to build more advanced things like machine gun posts/Humvees/helicopters etc. back at mainbase, you would have to build a Forward Observation Base (FOB) which would both time to build (30 minutes?) & quite a lot of loot/resources. * FOB these can only be put up inside a town's radius & would have 3 effects: 1. It would bring to town/village under your group's control, so the civilians won't make noise alerting anyone else to your presence in the town, whether you have your gun out or not. 2. It would have to opposite effect to anyone not in the controlling group (with a gun out), so the civilians will make a lot of noise & on the maps of the group member's maps the FOB symbol will flash, indicating either, it is under attack/being caputured or there is someone trying to enter to area. 3. Advanced loot will spawn here, making the FOB & town more of a target to the enemy. Persistance: Mainbases & FOBs would only be persistent on the server they were built in, this would prevent conflict of controlling towns. Character kit would be persistent between servers, so you could "raid" towns in other servers for loot, so you could effectively have several out posts in other servers if you wanted to but, if you stretched to far you wouldn't be able to defend them & be open to attack. Vehicles would also be persistent only in the server they were built in & only if they were left in either the main base or FOB. Maps: These would be automatic kit, (but can be dropped), where people of the same group can put makers down showing enemy FOBs & other positions. What I would love to see would be if you got killed with one on your body, the enemy could loot it & it would show a snapshot of the markers that were down when the person was killed, so it might show where their FOBs are & where they know you are. If Rocket is anything to do with the Multiplayer side of ARMA3 I would hope for something like the above. It would be great to have a main FPS game to explore a more MMO style of gameplay. EDIT: A note on servers, I feel server files should be restricted to communities rather than individual people this would concentrate the player base meaning more people per server.

Game Server Browsers supporting ARMA 2 & ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead
{SAS}Silentkiller replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
Is there any progress on either having remote admin control or more than one admin on a server at one time? -

co30 DominationA2! One Team
{SAS}Silentkiller replied to xeno's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
We as a Squad play Domination West, I'd love to see the paradrop time limit changed to 5 mins (is there a reason for have such a long cool down period?), also at the moment there is nothing to lift tanks & the only way to rearm them is to damage them & wreck lift them to the repair point in the airbase, so is there a chance that you could add either an Osprey as a reward for a side mission or engineers to be able to build FARPS or both? If I knew how to do this I would, but I don't; if there's anyone who can impliment these I would be eternally gratefully, as these are the only things that I can think of to improve the Domination West experience! Cheers SK -
So what’s the big deal about MP? Wonder how many simply play SP?
{SAS}Silentkiller replied to BeerHunter's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I've hadly touched the single player side of things. We have our own server (you can find our server & TS details HERE) so we mainly play Domination with randomly generated towns to capture, but I've been playing a bit on the [CEAL] server which has Advance & Secure runing which is a PvP game, where you capture linked points on the map, they seem to get decent players on, but many people are unused to the capturing points part of things! -
I was playing on this server: http://arma2.swec.se/server/data/115971 lastnight & it was playing aas50m v0.4 with several different maps. I liked this type of AAS but couldn't find anything about it!! I would be very grateful if someone could point me in the direction of where to find the server files for this game type

What's this server running??
{SAS}Silentkiller replied to {SAS}Silentkiller's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
Toaster's got it, I actually posted in their forum :) Devastation has too many options & boxes for my liking, original AAS is what I like, simple load outs at spawn point & away you go. @Ziggy: I think you mean Devastation there, AAS has mini map (bottom right), 3rd person view, but it doesn't have cross hairs (don't mind that) -
We ({SAS} Clan, www.thesasclan.co.uk) will be getting a brand spanking uber new server in the next week or so. We really enjoy playing co-op missions together, but would like to also have a PvP game going as well. There is the AAS games, but has anyone got a favorite version of this & is there anything else like this that we could host, to me it all looks very confusingand would like some guidence. Thanks in advance. SK

I've been playing a few missions & AAS maps with revive script on them. When I die it only shows the revive time left & no-one can revive me, I also have no spawn points selectable on the screen. :( Anyone else have this problem? My dxdiag:

Why do BIS seem to have almost no PR?? No updates on what they are doing. This is a potentially amazing player v player game but they seem to have worked more on making a single player campaign rather that a good multiplayer experience! Even their own poll shows that very few people play PvP because they been so lack luster with it!! Perhaps they should take a leaf out of Creative Assembley's book: http://shoguntotalwar.yuku.com/topic/53425/t/The-Daily-Update.html Please please please can we have some decent updates on work that is being done & prolems that will be delt with in the future. CA profited by just saying what they were doing!! It reduced the number of critical forum threads & improved the stature of the game.

Some genuine patch 1.03 information
{SAS}Silentkiller replied to {SAS}Silentkiller's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
That's exactly what I'm seeing & it makes me sad :( It's amazing what a little bit information can do, given on a regular basis, to the mood of your customers (us :)) Even just a paragraph like: Oh & Placebo you are sneeky with your thread merging!! & fishing should always come first :P -
+1 :) Developers seem to completely ignore the server browser friends list, an example of an excelent server browser is in Enemy Territory Quake Wars. They have a friends list where you can join the server that they are in, if it's full you have an option to wait for the next slot to be available. -Sorting out the warping that happens when scoped would be good :) -Official bug free co-op & PvP maps would be nice. -reserve named slot so admin can join the game if no other admin is currently on.

Some genuine patch 1.03 information
{SAS}Silentkiller replied to {SAS}Silentkiller's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
The Twitter thing is a bit excessive, but how hard is it to just have a locked anouncement of the things that have been identified & worked on, & things that you believe you have sorted for the next patch? Perhaps you are waiting for the optimised drivers? Information is king & it's all right for us die hard fans but some of are comrades are loosing faith & pretty much throwing the game in the bin :( mainly because there apparently (from the outside) is very little being done to sort problems in the game, mainly the multiplayer side of things. I would love to know why they spent so much time on the campaign, but didn't have any official co-op missions or PvP maps? -
Some genuine patch 1.03 information
{SAS}Silentkiller replied to {SAS}Silentkiller's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Apparently BIS didn't even give the people who develop GFX drivers at Nvidia a gold copy of the game to optimise their drivers, and only went & bought a copy a couple of weeks ago!! :O I personally think they need to fire the PR guy, the links in the above post show that they are more interested in the Flash game rather than the proper game, at least to me. I am a patient person & stick with a game that I think will develop into a great game, but it's not developing quick enough! are they under staffed there?? Anyway I yhope someone in the PR dept sees this & at least gives a post saying they are working on a patch & possibly a few things they are hoping to improve :) -

Does no-one else have this problem?? -
You sure you've change the sound settings from streo to 5.1 surround in your sound card settings?
-
I don't think it's that unrealistic! You only move when the animation moves, that's good enough for me :)

Just wondering if BIS have produced any official multiplayer co-op & PvP maps at all? and if not why not? I think multiplayer is something that BIS has almost totally ignored with Arma 2 & left it to the talented, undervalued & over relied on members of the community to design missions, for many, many many people who play Co-op & PvP games. The net code (according to a friend of mine who is an expert in such matters) is very shoddy to say the least. Everyone knows that multiplayer co-op & PvP gameing is the way forward, not single player, so I hope they wake up to this soon & improve it. :)
