ARMA 2 (OA) : DLC discussion thread

Hehe, depends, I'm not the kind of guy using them as Frisbee's or using them as placement for drinks. As long as you don't do any crazy stuff with them, they should last quite long. My Red Alert 1 disk and NFS 3 disk are completely clean and still work excellent, despite their 12-15 year lifespan. In the end, if they do break down, it's mostly your own fault due not being nice and friendly to your CD/DVD's :D
  2. Nephris, that's excellent news. From all the BI games I've played Operation Flashpoint's campaign was by far the most impressive and most challenging one, Therefore I'm glad about the similarities. Could you give some additional info about how ArmA 2 and Arrowhead merge together, proclaimed as a cool feature resulting in a "great millitary platform"?

    Where/how/when to buy ARMA2:OA?

Hello fellow Dutchies, As I'm sure we all had, I had some struggle finding offers in our country, Luckily I ran into some lately: Wehkamp.nl (€29,99): http://www.wehkamp.nl/games/pre-orders/pre-order-pc-games-software/arma-ii-operation-arrowhead/C13_POG_PPC_191038/ GCSHOP.nl (€32,50): http://www.gcshop.nl/PC_Games/ArmA_2_Operation_Arrowhead.aspx 12game (€32,50): http://www.12game.com/PC_Games/ArmA_2_Operation_Arrowhead.aspx I haven't found the deluxe/combined ops edition yet in a Dutch store. However, ArmA 2 vanilla can be found for 20 euro's, and if you would decide to buy them both, it would mean a 50 euro total cost, probably just as much as the Deluxe edition would cost you.

ARMA 2 (OA) : DLC discussion thread

I 110% percent agree, TillGrave. I will never, ever buy an Internet-only DLC. I don't care if I have to pay 5 euro's more for the CD and stuff, because I absolutely prefer having a physical copy of the game. The biggest argument I have against digital distribution, is that you'd never know how long steam, for example, will exist. It could remain for another 40 years, or go bankrupt next week. I frequently play old school games (Hot pursuit 3 (1998), Mafia (2001), GTA 1&2 (1999), Battlefield 1942 (2002)) and would never, ever want to risk that joy by a downloading system that could fail today, tomorrow or in 100 years.
  5. Arg, those Germans, I should consider an house there. I definitely like that kickback in the first video, looks pretty genuie to me:) By the way, that guy claims to have a 5-10FPS increase, would be pretty cool for the lower-end systems, including my own:D

    ARMA 2: 1.07 Patch Released!!!

Hey guys, Just downloaded and installed the patch. When I go to the Online screen, I get a message saying "Update 1.05 is available at www.arma2.com". It isn't worth creating a ticket regarding my opinion, but it can be quite bothering and hope this issue is correctable without releasing another patch.

    Give us pink! (Direct Channel)

Do you like the ArmA2 OA box art?

I fancy an entirely white cover with an excellent game inside above a game with a beautiful cover but with an horrible game in it. Therefore, I don't really care. Anyway, If I would judge completely on the cover itself, it might be a bit over the top indeed. But, whether it is or whether it isn't, it's the content that matters:)

    Arma 2 1.06 Patch Suggestions

My suggestions: 1: Enable players to have a map on a possible secundary screen 2: Create a new chat channel, meant for conversations in the near perrimiter. It's the same idea as the "Vehicle Chat". For example conversations can be heard by anyone in a 20 meter radius from the player, so people have to be carefull when enemies are around. 3: Trees are very, very heavy on the computer. Maybe performance tweaks can be made. 4: Like flash Thunder said, make soldiers die inside the MG nest, instead of appearing outside.

    Secondary Monitor as Map

I was about to suggest it, it would greatly enhance the playabillity of ArmA 2 for me. World in Conflict implemented something similar 3 years ago, which works awesome.

    Reason of my absence.

Hey JerryHopper, When I saw your post here, I didn't know exactly who you are. after some thinking, and reading the word radio, I suddenly remembered we contacted you a long, long while ago about creating a similar radio station in Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. Unfortunately, that game was a massive dissapointement and these plans are off the table. I am glad that you're recovering from your problems, and hope they won't return in the future. If I, or any of the team members can do anything to assist you, please contact us. We appreciate the work you've done in the past, and I'm sure we will appreciate the work you'll do in the future. Regards, Ubermachtig, Sir. Polaris and the other former Heroes

    Trees killing performance

Ah, I was about to make a thread about this subject as well. I experience exactly the same, and I'm sure the trees are the biggest frame-droppers. They should be made a lot more efficient so performance can be improved vastly. Although I have a relatively slow system, ArmA 2's performance is pretty decent in non-forested area's: Processor: Core 2 duo @ 2,13Ghz Videocard: Nvidia GeForce POV 9600GT 512MB Drivers: GeForce 197.57 BETA Making trees more efficient would help me a lot, especially with the above system where every frame counts.

Getting my son into ArmA 2

Hehe, love those stories, it's funny how they blame everything but themselves, and then we'd have to deal with a pissed-of girlfriend the other part of the evening:D
  16. Although I am not really active within the ArmA 2 community. I am saddened by this news. It is always bad to hear that someone died, but making him a very valuable, respected and needed person within the community makes it even worse. My sincere condolences to the family, I hope Paul, and his other relatives will be able to accept and handle his unfortunate death some day in the future. I hope his family may find rest by the lot of good he has done for our community. Although I don't say prayers very often; my mind, thoughts, prayers and condolances are with his family. Your sincere, Ruben R. (The Netherlands)

Getting my son into ArmA 2

"Daddy? Why is there a beheaded soldier and a naked woman in that jeep after I downloaded something from the Internet?". I got a nephew, Around 2,5 years old whom is really into Dirt 2. When he crashes his car he always yells crash and asks me if I can rewind again:)

Getting my son into ArmA 2

As long as he won't call us "Fat", "Bitch", "Etard" or something similar, the game would be perfectly suitable for him. The violence is pretty limited compared to most shooters modern days. The good thing about ArmA 2 is that thinking about your decisions, planning the route you will walk etc etc. is a good way to use your brain. For example, before I played ArmA 2, I always got lost when looking at a map. Now, I understand them a lot easier. Don't expect him to reach Harvard-thinking, but it surely won't harm him having to think a bit more than in the average shooter. I'd say a yes:)
  19. Just by looking at it, I would say it's a very decent laptop, I do however doubt if it'll run A2 on medium, since it's a laptop, which especially means the videocard will be pretty slow compared to the desktop variant. The best comparisation would be to find someone else who has a laptop capable of running ArmA 2, and comparing that laptops spec's to yours.

    Arma 2 Lan Bug

I'm sorry to bump this thread from the grave, but does this mean (After I've installed the 1.05 patch which removes DRM) that I can play LAN with just 1 legitimate key?

    1.05 Benchmark Mission Results

I'll post mine later today:) I'd think, however, it would be better to see these scores compared with the ones previously achieved in 1.04 to see the difference.
  22. Huh? they removed it?? I have no idea why they would've done that if it's true what you're saying:( EDIT: 3 posts in the time I was writing this message, NVM this message;) Well, it's not that I dislike the whole system, I'd think it's realistic in some way. But, I'd think it should be reset after you've been killed.
  23. It could've been that my character laid down a couple of times because of this (Although it could've been from running uphill as well). Although I'm not sure about that, the character did indeed have sustained periods of unconsciousness (0,5-1 sec long).
  24. Hey guys, First of all, ACE 2 is very impressive, challenging and really adds a more realistic feeling to ArmA 2. Especially the gun sounds are amazing and way better then the sounds in the original. Unfortunately, I've encountered a small bug, and would like to notify the ACE team about it. (that's where a beta is all about, right?:D) I was running around for a long time to get to the next village to capture (Warfare mode). After a small time, my screen started to flash black and back to normal, constantly repeating itself. I'd asked around in the game text chat, and was informed that this flashing came because I was out of stamina. Eventually, I got killed, but even after I died the flashing continued about 3-5 minutes. I was hoping that the next update could reset this semi-blackout feature after being killed. (I'm not entirely sure if this is an ACE 2 feature, although I've never encountered it in ArmA 2 vanilla). Keep up the good work:)
  25. This is a singleplayer mission, and should be put in your Missions folder, it can be found in your ArmA 2 install direction. Hello everyone, This is my first mission. First of all, Thanks goes to [KH]BabyAlien for his great tutorials on youtube. I haven't figured out how to put text in the "welcome screen" of the mission yet, or how to add a debriefing. (If you guys know a good tutorial for that, it would be much appreciated) In this singleplayer mission, You're an USMC marine stationed on an airfield. 5 minutes prior the mission start, you where informed about 7 incoming Russian transport choppers, trying to get off the island, most likely carrieing VIP's away from Chernarus, where the situation is getting worse and worse. Right after the message, an earlier captured shilka was set up for you to kill the incoming choppers. Be creative, You have limited Shilka bullets, so make them pay. You'll get some support from an Anti-Air squad. There are multiple ways to finish this mission. It's a pretty addictive mission, despite it's simplicity. Thanks to Armaholic, Its not limited to 10 downloads anymore:) You can download my mission here: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=6911
