    OFP mp

    i've recently started playing ofp MP. before i played a lot of Joint ops (which is quite good despite being screwed up by dumb down patches). and i must say ofp MP is so good. but as mentioned above there is room for improvement. and i hope in ofp2 they get those things right. to me those things are - MOST IMPORTANT keep realistic movement/ open maps and ballastics above all. these are the reasons i play OFP. - introduce less 'sparse' landscape - more realistic and less 'stuck on' feel. but ATM ofp still rates good on graphics. - IMPORTANT make it possible to join an already started game (but perhaps have an auto assign to keep team from being unbalanced) - make undertstanding MP map codes easier. as a newbie when launching a MP game i find it tricky to understand what codes mean (lol at least dm = death match, and co = co-op so that's good). - have more server choices (allow the server to decide multiple respawns, weapons, etc) cheers...

    graphic improvements ...

    as a relative newb myslef i considered improving ofp's grpahics to highest level of high prioirty so i could concentrate on gameplay without beng distracted by graphics. the high res island textures make a big difference. for a list of really great add-ons that make your ofp experience better go here. i did and its nice to have add-on in one easy to read place. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....;st=105
  3. will ecp has instant compatibility will older ecp versions? i ask cause i'm curios. so if a mods using ecp will the new ecp be able to replace the old one? i certainly hope so. eagerly awaiting the new ecp....

  5. i was reading through some user mission descriptions and i thought wouldn't it be great in ofp2 if eventually you got to choose the way you executed a mission. so you get given an objective - say destroy heavily defended enemy communication station. but you choose how to accomplish it. like choose to be inserted by parachute over a certain spot and work your way in while being supported by heavy tanks coming in from west. or for the same mission you choose to have beach landing with everything coming from one direction and roll over enemy due to over whelming odds. or decide that a SF mission at night using loads of explosives would be the right way to cripple the enemy. or send in an apache strike team in the morning for a high speed surgical strike. obviously if you get half your army wiped out taking out one obejctive you are seriously compimised in other missions until you get reinforcements. this would be great and offer extreme tactical freedom. of course if you are lazy you can just accept your major's recommendations (defualt plan)

    wow thats nice, yeah something sorta like that. i suppose what i am suggesting is you can choose how to execute the mission based on what assets (men, vehilces, aircraft, arms,etc) you have. so noone tells you what to do - its your idea and your responsility if it buggers up. but only in later stages when you have worked up to such a level of authority.

    OFP2 - Rainbow Six

    cqb is very much a part of the modern battlefield. this is due to the almost over whelming superiorty of the BIG armies. and because of this i'd like to see it in ofp2. any way. much fighting takes palce from house to house. and the safest way to move house to house when clearing areas is in many cases to blow a hole in the wall and move through that. all while having some heavy firepower (a tank) covering the street in case anyone tries to run away that way. whether we blow holes in wall or not, I'd definetly want house to house fighting in ofp2. and the AI to be able to adapt to it in respect to forming up, throwing in nades, clearing the room and moving on. also things like moving up stairwells and calling strikes against house/ targets. experience would be important - green recruits would be as much as danger to each other as to the enenmy. but veterans would move like a well oiled team. i still want the big open battles. but some intense cqb urban battles to secure a town would be awesome. complete with enemy snipers (and some allied ones two ;) )

    hrrm.enemy in sight does look very nice. liek the way the landscape isn't barren. it does look like ofp with quite a substantial makeover. wonder when its ready and how realistic it plays. cause good looks are only good for a week or two.

    wow. thanks for the fast response. yes i double checked the -nomap option. and i deleted all add ons so its pure 1.96 ofp. maybe its windows? I'll try reinstalling that maybe. i can't think of anything else. EDIT ----- after trying everything i decided to do a dxdiag and guess what? my video card coudn't run dx8 anymore. so i took it out and out in a spare and OFP runs wonderfully. So if you have grey screen problem and nothing else works it may be good to check your video card.

    GREEN or GREY screen error...

    i am getting the grey screen problem. am running 1.96. i have tried the -nomap option. still is grey. the PC is a crappy one. AMD 700. 256MB RAM. Geforce 1 (32MB video mem). the thing is its an old PC but should run OFP. When i start ofp up there's no picture (no logos nothing). then i notice it sorta flashes a different shade of blank screen, then either stays black or gives me a grey screen depending on what resolution i use. i can alt-f4 out no problem. am running relatively recent (2 months old) nvidia drivers. fast writes are off. i even tried turning down video card hardware accelration but no change. i also tried setting game to lowest resoltuion (640by400) and tried direct3d and direct3d T&L. still stuffed. i also went into config and adjuested screen refresh rate to 60/70hz which my new monitor is more than capable of. am using directx 9c. AGP is 4x and size is 32MB. no over clocking. the freaky thing is it ran fine for a while then went funny after i installed an add-on. i uninstalled the addon and reinstalled ofp and patched it up again but still.... any help would be most appreciated. next step i reinstall XP as the only reason i resurrected this old computer is to play OFP on it and use it for word processing.

    incredible work. womder why such folilage and grass ain't in ofp? looks so good and removes the 'barren' look that is one of ofp's main failings.

    Gothic 2

    this is one of those role playing games that has a real atmosphere. it is very addictive and sucks you in. however the graphics are at first a bit dated. but after an hour or so you no longer notice it. Buy it if you can.

    hit detection

    hello. i am new to ofp (can't believe i missed it for 4 years) anyway i really enjoy it. but one thing i noticed that i want to aks about. hit detection. why when shooting enemies (AI & online players) in the head it doesn't seem to register a hit or kill them instantly? for a realistic game this is one thing that surprised me a lot. is there a hit detection update? or am i missing something? or have i just gone crazy and am sseeing things?

    the ai in ofp now is pretty good at times. but this is about what we'd like to see.. 1) AI that's reflects different levels and philosophies of training. ie spetnaz is going to engange you in a very different way to Rangers who in turn will act very differently than regular light infantry. 2) fear like mentioned previously. plus excitement, experience, panic. 3) ability for AI to regroup with a new leader if their one if killed. 4) AI that uses terrain properly and is as limited by it as we are (no super vision). 5) AI thats works in platoon, squad, fireteam and battelteam levels. 6) AI that uses real military tactics and vaire sthos tactics based on success rate.

    yeah. at its best ofp has a look n feel like nothing out there. and the vsb screen shots look damn awesome. i recently grabbed the high res textures for OFP islands. and wow its much better. add lluamax ski, dxdll and some improved models (HYK) and things are suddenly looking very sweet. however.... as far as graphics go i wouldn't want benchmarking effects or bright and shiny stuff. rather an environment where everything fits well. and this is where ofp ATM has its wow moments and problems. lighting/shadows/ tones that all work together present a 'unified' battefield. where a wall and the surrounding vegetation is lit properly. where the vegetation looks part of the terrain and not likes its been disconnectedly plopped on the ground. I'd also see things like really nicely made grass playing a big part. by nicely made i mean that it looks like grass even close up and not like an overclose view of a polygon. where buildings look like buildings and less than cardboard structures with pictures pasted on them. i'd also like to see small touchs like binocular reflections if sun catches the lens at the correct angle. and shadow areas (think side of mountain or shade under a tree) where if you go there you (and surrounding objects) go darker as well.

    yeah compared to ofp nearly every shooter out now is pretty shit. BUT .... graphics are important. I've only recently started playing ofp online. and one thing that's really bad is how players stand out on the landscape. my first game i went prone [dumb movie i know] and hoped the enemy in a tank a couple fo hundered meteres away wouldn't notice me. but as you can imagine the landscape is pretty damn barren so i stood out like a pair of dogs bollocks. now in a more modern engine i'd expect there to be shadowed terrain and if you go in the shadow you get darker and harder to spot. making concealment and stealth a viable tactic. also a more realistic looking envirnoment means more immesrion and suspension of belief. better graphics = ability to immerse yourself in the game. and that's a good thing about JO. you can hide away. conceal yourself in the envirnoment. and that is crucially important.

    update... cool. i'm running GOTY version 1.96 as found on this websites download section. sorry for not mentioning it before. swo judging from the severe lack of yes its normal replies that it's probably me just going crazy or something. I'll recheck it tonight. thanks for you replies guys.
