    Shooting in FFUR 2007

The bullets values are WGL-made, results of several research projects in this area, closely advised and supported by WGL military advisors and former members, We trust the WGL team and in their editing abilities, especially when it comes to this area, I have been noticing the same slight change when testing the WGL MOD, though, but have been rapidly moving from feeling pleased with the new values after watching some documentaries regarding the issue on the Net. FFUR/SLX 2007

Thanks for the tip, but that doesn't work since you have to upload FFUR/SLX data files to the concerned server to carry out the necessary tests. Thank you for your efforts, which are really appreciated here. Thanks, any support would be greatly appreciated. regards, TB

    Taking Cover

Being in the army, the "taking cover" element is one of the first elementary "technics" you learn during your classes, you would often use it during "supposed" enemy contacts. Since some other game of another completely different style have already implemented it doesn't mean that that should not be done for ArmA, Ghost recon's taking cover system is pretty well done even if the game has been released on 2001: AI troops tend to find cover while machine gunners cover'em. However, carrying out the same in ArmA is possible but would need a massive use of the "nearestobject" command which might require a lot of system resources. regards, TB

    Should Russia fear NATO expansion?

To be honest, even if the communist party is not the most representative in the russian elections, the communist spirit is still alive and dominating in people's minds, a couple of decades seem needed to 'get over it', even if russia has already shown major internal changes the last years. regards, TB

    The Average American?

There are no reasons some people should feel insulted by this thread as it is a constructive debate with opinions from all sides. I find it interesting how people perceive the US average citizen, and how the US somehow perceive the rest of the world. Such boards are quite representative of the diversity and consequently, a great tools to learn more about the other side of the atlantic. regards, TB

    The Next War

Isn't finding plans to figure out and solve the current rivaleries and wars a "war"? better try to solve the current ones with the hope to provide a bit of peace and quiet, even if some of these areas (Darfur...) aren't that advantageous economically and financially to the "fictionnal" involved countries, but at least, that would slightly decrease difficulties that people already encounter with poverty out there. And that would be kind of different from the classical "Big-Nations-War" scenario. ;] regards, TB

    FFUR/SLX 2007

This aspect of the mod is still undiscovered since time and support were lacking to host the MOD and to intensively test it. If some of you would be interested in supporting us to make the MOD multiplayer compatible, then feel free to let me know about it, any external help would be greatly appreciated. All we actually need is a dedicated server to carry out the necessary tests. I appreciate your motivation and will to get the MOD further, but as previously stated, there would be no cooperation with the ORCS team as long as they don't try to make some slight changes in their policy, which I'm afraid would never happen. Btw, here is the content of the incoming 1.01 patch: Fixed: Limited the use of the air support and the newly added artillery support. (1 x Air support/ 2x artillery requests) Fixed: T-90 Reloading time decreased with the aim to have 8 shots per minute. Fixed: Ability to swim for Helicopter and Jet fighter pilots. Fixed/Added: Added a crosshair to the russian NSV as well as suited 12.7mm green tracers. Fixed/Added: Fixed "Air Support" CTD and added a realistic ability to call allied artillery support, now russian troops can use the artillery support as well. Fixed/Added: Updated several firearms sounds effects and replaced most of them by louder and slightly more realistic ones. Added: NVGs to all US regular troops. Added: Dust and Water effect to helicopters. Added: Russian Radio R109 to russian army personnel instead of the PRC-119 (SINCGARS) which is US, Resistance troops use stolen R109 as well. Improved: Tanks gunner sights. Improved: Mod's configuration. There would be some model changes and additions as well, a list would be available on the patch's release date. Stay tuned, :] Regards, TB

    3D Craters

The texture's path is wrong and should be replaced by "Data\krater_02.paa" instead of "Data\crater.paa", otherwise you would keep getting a white crater in-game. Certainly, a nice idea that could be further developed, regards, TB

    Should Russia fear NATO expansion?

This sounds quite ridiculous since there are no reasons that russian armed forces should fear NATO current expansion, they seem just to want to consolidate their position. regards, TB

    The Average American?

I would once again point out that being stupid and lacking general knowledge are 2 different things, people tend to confuse both. I'm sure if the US would seriously pay more attention to what's going on in the rest of the world, a lot of things would probably be much different than they actually are. regards, TB

    The Average American?

No wonder the US of A is known to be influential on the rest of the world, but the way americans are perceived negatively is often justified, that doesn't give us the right to generalize all americans as unitelligent money grubbing idiots, though. Since having seen different places in europe, I must admit that the culture's concept is different in every country, but you would hardly see people not knowing that israel's main religion is judaism. With no offense, the US reputation in terms of general and cultural knowledge unfortunately seems not to be that brilliant here. I could understand that some americans on this board feel offended by some comments but these remarks should not be taken personal. regards, TB

    FFUR/SLX 2007

Such an update would require a lot of efforts and would involve several people to get it done, if we would have the possibility to carry out such an upgrade then it would be done as soon as possible, all we need are a bunch of dedicated russian people. Please could you provide more details about the AI reactions in-game you noticed? that would help us to figure them out and improve them. Spinal Tap 84: Thank you very much for your efforts in trying to answer everyone in an accurate and understandable manner that saves me a lot of time. :] This sounds quite weird, since all of "texture ratio" bugs are supposed to be fixed on dedicated servers and only a few addons have been added since, we would carefully check them out and would keep you informed. The incoming patch would incorporate both of dust/water effects to helicopters. The scripts behind this feature are laggy, use fraps to notice the fps drop during the models transition. The files that have to be backed-up before installing AEC islands pack are the following: OperationFlashpoint/worlds/Eden.wrp OperationFlashpoint/worlds/Cain.wrp OperationFlashpoint/worlds/Abel.wrp Simply because these models aren't available in OFP. You can't compare "taliban" and "russian forces", and as previously stated, the russian army uses a large number of APCs intended for this purpose, probably more than any other armed force. Sure, that might be interesting indeed. Makes sense indeed, but I seriously think about replacing the M24 by the SR-25 for BIS missions and campaigns because of its magazine which might be more helpful to accomplish some specific missions, the M24 would still be available (and usable) via a "3rd" long range sniper in the mission editor, though. ;] I would check it out carefully to make the needed adjustements. The amount of changes provided to the mod tend to sometimes change the mission's feeling and make it more immersive or different in some ways, due to the AI enhancements as well, as now they can share information with each others about the enemy, find cover and better hide. Try to be slightly more effective and efficient in your attacks, in order to take advantage of the combat balance. Restart the mission and play it again, instead of loading it from the last save point. You should have no problem by following this way. Sounds weird, SamotH Hollywood faces selection works nicely here, maybe give it a try again. Heh, as far as I remember I didn't miss your reply and answered you as you could see below -> ... -My biggest problem is that for some reason the death animations in FFRU/SLX2007 are not the ones from FFRU2007 how come you guys removed them? --------------------------------------- They have been accidentaly disabled and they would hopefully be incorporated again. A common version has been chosen and established in order to avoid having to mess with a lot of configs at every update, which might make people get confused as it was the case in the past. After some tests with ArmA, several of the previous FFUR explosion effects that were causing some serious FPS drop on OFP work fine with ArmA's engine.. BIS new platform seems really interesting and quite promising. Thank you all for the nice words and for your support, the patch is almost done and it would feature several changes and improvements, including some model additions. (T-62, Linebacker...etc). :] regards, TB

    The Average American?

Naturally, there is no point in discussing such an obvious statement. I somehow agree on everyone's point of view, Just to clear mine, people of the same community, village, city, area, country or whatever you want to call it, are obviously different, they share different visions of how the world works, with different mentalities, cultures and values, and that what makes diversity. I want to make it clear that there was no offense meant, just a neutral and objective approach based on my own opinion and what I have seen so far, though. regards, TB

    The Average American?

I'm afraid there wouldn't be such a high ratio of wrong answers to the number of questions if you would try the same here in france, with people of the same social level, not that I'm trying to make the US look bad in a certain light but the high level of ignorance regarding general knowledge, is kind of worrying. regards, TB

    FFUR/SLX 2007

The tracers color and values can be easily changed, no need to implement FFUR ones which were slightly laggier than the current ones, some changes would be done, for sure. Sniper_Kyle: Thank you for the tip, that might help a lot of people experiencing such kind of errors to fix' em, but the new SamotH pack (posted above) does figure out the issue. SamotH: Amazing pack with a great and friendly .bat installer, allowing people to choose the way they want to install things, thank you for the efforts and cooperation you have kindly extended to us. If you feel kind of unsatisfied, perplexed or worse with the current status of the MOD then feel free to carry out the necessary changes for your own use, you have all you need (an editable config and the necessary tool), if you want to get a stage further, then make some research here and there and you would find all you need. Infantry troops can already sit on BMPs, making the same for tanks doesn't make sense, as the russian army is supposed to have a large number of APCs that can do the job, plus, there are more important priorities at the moment, as stated above. Nobody complained about the wound textures, which look decent so far, in my judgement, if you dislike 'em, and would rather prefer to see ORCS ones instead, nobody would stop you in making'em more relevant. This seems to be a static animation intended to make promotion screenshots, I'm afraid that carrying out a working similar animation is almost impossible at the moment, as the interest in OFP is not the same than before, which is not encouraging to involve such efforts and research, but why not later, for ArmA's FFUR ;] Even being simple and classical, the current Shilka looks so far good and doesn't need the addition of such a camo, which isn't that common in real life, though. First, that would require dammaged model tanks relevant to the available ones (M1A2, M1A1...), Secondly, this would require scripts to get the transition properly done, which aren't cpu friendly. But this is already available in ArmA and it works quite good. We have been working in a close cooperation with RHS key members (ShadowNx, Laser...) in order to get the current russian soldiers the most realistic possible in FFUR. Once again, if you are unsatisfied with them and find'em unrealistic then go ahead and incorporate those you prefer. With no offense towards ORCS members, who are skilled and talentend so far, I'm afraid there would be no cooperation with them, due to their lack of "friendship" and their policy. (The last time, we have been asked to take out RHS stuff from FFUR to be allowed to incorporate their models, which absolutely makes no sense at all). Anyways, thank you for your interest and suggestions but please keep in mind that there are actually more important priorities. Regards, TB

    FFUR/SLX 2007

Operation Flashpoint is not dead and the same goes to FFUR, surprisingly, a lot of people are still playing the former great engine and we would keep working on it until ArmA official tools would be released as well as the awaited official patch. Meanwhile, here spent a couple of hours trying to provide some accurate answers to people's questions and requests: Negative, please read the installation instructions from the first page of this thread, they are detailed and do explain quite well the way to follow in order to install things properly. Although being kind of disturbing, this is wanted in the aim to provide a light touch of realism to force people to use more speedmeters. This provides an immersive feeling and a realistic experience because the suppressive fire is one of the first elementary tactic every soldier has to learn during classes to get further, its teaching is common in armed forces. Check out google for further information about its use during combats. Indeed and you have to disable the view in order to reload your AT launcher, once done, you can use it again. Air strikes are very common today, as they have been illustrated by the US/Israeli interventions in the M-E the last years, their massive use sometimes tend to cause heavy collateral dammages (civilians...etc), a thing that you can't reproduce in OFP due to its missions/campaigns limitations in terms of "civilians". Due to this fact, you would be allowed to only use 3 air strikes every mission with the incoming patch. As stated in the overview, no MP tests have been done due to the lack of time but logically, this aspect should work as well, but with no guarantee from our side. Added to the list of bugs, the crosshair would be added with the next patch. The T-90 is able to fire 8 rounds every minute in real life, we would carry out the necessary changes to get that done in-game as well. I'm afraid nothing could be done at this level due to the engine limitations, but I will check it out once again. However, firefights in woods might be kind of confusing due to the amount of foliage, plants and trees in real life. I will check it out again and would carry out the necessary changes if everything goes as it should. This has already been reported during beta testing but the only way I found to figure out the issue is to take out almost all of AI scripts, but that haven't been done because this would have disabled several features, which means consequently that simultaneously running several AI scripts tends to slow down their "reaction" in combat. The Air Strike feature would be reworked again to figure out the CTD and fix it. Added to the bugs list. LOD issue, very minor though, I'm afraid we have more important priorities than fixing tanks dammaged models, but thanks for reporting it. OFP physics engine is behined this problem, tanks will bounce as if they were hit because grenades have to weight 100 000 Kg in order to stay on ground, otherwise they'd be ejected to outer-space. A very stable extra pack would be available with the incoming release, which would feature only a couple of changes. By the way, make sure that your graphic card is powerful enough (At least Model Shader 2.0) to use the extra pack. Bradley armor values would be changed, well seen and thanks. Sorry but it is kind of impossible to satisfy everyone, taking out this feature would result in a lot of complaints coming from all sides. Have you already tried to sprint with a 3->5 kg rifle, full magazine pouches, heavy rangers and grenades on rough ground? Believe me, even the most sporting among us would encounter difficulties to correctly aim after such efforts. Indeed, this feature has unfortunately been temporary disabled because the body model was spinning, but we would implement it again as soon as it is fixed. Get close to your squad's leader to use his radio, picking up radios from dead RTOs wouldn't help because they are supposed to be brocken and unusable. Indeed, this has been removed to incorporate SLX one which isn't that well-optimized, a good reason to put it back with the incoming patch. ;] What kind of aircraft would be supporting the "guerilleros", who are supposed to have light firearms slightly supported by stolen and crappy tanks intended to make ambushes. However, the implementation of light artillery support (mortars) is envisaged for both of these sides. What are your system specs? have you made sure you installed everything properly? clean your registry as well. As Spinal Tap 84 have so well explained, RPGs are unpredictable, and the wind's influence on rockets has to be taken into considration too. They have been accidentaly disabled and they would hopefully be incorporated again. Make sure your system is powerful enough to run the mod, just refer to the system requirements posted in the first post of this thread. I suppose that the amount of model replacements and changes are probably behind the lag you are experiencing during this mission, furthermore, the fact that you used an external script with the MOD might be affecting the fps level as well. The sounds effects would probably be updated or even changed, the question is actually suspended as there are more important priorities at the moment. US Regular Troops would carry NVGs with the incoming patch. Check them out once again, they work very well. Indeed. Added to the bugs list. The Stingers have not been implemented because the new apache's model (intended to increase the fps level), does not have stinger proxys, plus, this apache's variant does not break BIS missions. Since the "Army" is mainly and exclusively represented in FFUR, the super cobra has been replaced by the previous version of the apache (A). Heh, apparently you still use the Beta version of FFSX I sent you a couple of weeks ago during the Beta testing stage, which was having this bug. ;] will check out .45 caliber values and would fix'em if needed. They are unnecessary and not relevant, at least for regular troops, but if time would allow it, I would try to add a small tut that explains how to customize your own SLX effects and features. Added to the bugs list. And how would you do if you are surrounded by enemy troops, if you feel this feature that unrealistic then don't use it. This is a matter of taste, some people would like it and some others wouldn't, as stated above, there would probably be a small tut that would explain how to customize yourself some aspects of the MOD. I answered to this more than once, this is due to SEF animations which are derived from BIS ones, and BIS animations are replaced by FFUR ones in the FFUR MOD, so you sometimes get this kind of problems which can be easily resolved by adding "manact..." lines to your vehicle's class in your concerned addon's folder. Apparently, the garrison script hasen't been completely taken out, -> added to the bugs list. The upcoming extra pack would not feature this tropical water's texture. Added to the bugs list. Since this is the best SAW Model ever carried out for OFP, I think people can live with that, even it is slightly unrealistic. To be honest, this sounds a bit weird here as the settings values have not been edited that deep, maybe try to edit your settings via "FlashpointPreferences" instead of "OpFlashPreferences". This can be easily done but the AI would not use grenades anymore, unless there's some kind of heavy extra scripting to be done, which isn't that recommended. These kind of issues tend to happen on some specific systems (HWTL/ Direct3D), use samotH extra pack and try both of options (HWTL or Direct3D), one of these would work good on your system. A nice idea to develop in game, but no concrete answers could be provided now, at least, until the main priorities are accomplished. Thank you all, once again for your continued support and nice words. Sincerely, yours Thunderbird84

    FFUR/SLX 2007

Hi everyone, Sorry for the kind of late reply, I have been busy during the last days because of real life circumstances. Thank you for your feedbacks, constructive comments and nice words, I have to plan to find the necessary time and be realistic about it to try to answer everyone, regrouping reports of bugs might need a while as well, with the hope to carry out a "decent" patch within the next incoming days that would fixe the main issues related in the thread. Thank you for your understanding! :] Regards, TB

    Marek's Comment on Tools...

And why not release them as soon as they are done? what is the point of not publishing them until they are all are finished together? IMO, as stated above, BIS probably have their own reasons for not releasing the second variant of O2 immediately, otherwise they would probably have already done it. Regards, TB

    FFUR/SLX 2007

Sure, feel free to carry out any modification you want. Just replace the sound path in the appropriate [[ 'class' = the weapon's [class] you would like to modifie ]] by respecting the sound's format (.ogg/ .wss/ .wav/) and convert the config to a binary format (.bin) by using cpp2bin available in the 'ffsx2007/bin/editable config' folder. 1. Indeed, the grenade-launchers recoil is low in-game, which isn't the fact in real life, having myself already used a grenade-launcher I second that and this would be changed with the incoming patch. 2. The SVD's bullet in the config is the following "ffur_762x54R_Sniper_Single_Bullet", it is derived from "ffur_762x54R_Single_Bullet", which is derived from "ffur_Bullet" which is finally derived from "BulletSingle", and it doesn't use HE impacts sounds, but I will check it out once again to make it sure. Well found, this does indeed make a nice change. Missiles have not been incorporated to 'Main Battle Tanks' because they would be massively used by OFP's AI, which would not use other munition types to attack enemy tanks until there would be no missiles, plus missiles's incorporation would have broken several BIS missions. Just keep it in your 'ffsx2007' folder and the MOD would run as supposed to. The recoil values are SLX ones, which have been done with the aim of being the most authentic possible, for an efficient use with Machine Guns, you are forced to go prone and not maintain the trigger when you use it. The links work fine so far here, give them a try again. Otherwise, use these new links, FFUR/SLX 2007 1.0 - Mirror 3 FFUR/SLX 2007 Extra Pack 1.2 - Mirror 3 Thanks to OFPC's team and especially to SWAT. Overall, the air support feature works fine on almost everyone's sytem, but some people experienced some CTDs problems, 'will check that out carefully in order to blow it down. Please can you provide a bit more of details of what you noticed exactly, that would be more helpful. Very simple, get close to your squad's leader radio and select "call air support", a message would appear in the top left of your screen as well as some radio messages, then select the area to strike in the map by clicking "once" on it and wait 1 minute. As some people have kindly stated above, this is not a bug and it is indeed, wanted. Thank you all for the kind words, but please join me in thanking OFP's community as well, including its former members and pioneers. Best Regards, TB

    Marek's Comment on Tools...

In my judgement, the point behind the release of these tools before the main one, [Oxygen II], is simply and certainly due to the fact that they have been accomplished first, they probably required less efforts and less time to get' em done, unlike the second variant of O2, which might require more time (Probably to remove some 'functions' we don't have to be aware of), so, instead of keeping them unreleased until having all of the tools completely finished, BIS probably prefered to share every 'supposingly finished' tool with the community, which is very appreciated here. regards, TB

    FFUR/SLX 2007

Negative, this hasn't been done because of various reasons that I will try to clearly justify here: - First, the lack of interest of the 'former-OFP' 's community (because of ArmA) is not that encouraging to involve more time and more efforts in carrying that out. - Requesting permissions, asking for MLOD 3Ds and waiting for the Addons authors replies to edit their models would have delayed this release, of at least 2, if not 3 or 4 months. - This feature is not necessary and it does slightly affect the gameplay. As mentioned in the previous page, the mirrors are on the way and they would be listed as soon as the uploads are finished. Thank you all for the kind words, your support in helping us to host the pack would be really appreciated! Regards TB

    FFUR/SLX 2007

I fully understand your point of view and I know that people with low-speed connections would have to wait a lot to get the pack, but this is probably the lowest FFUR pack ever carried out, in terms of size, plus it would not be easy to carry out a "simple" patch that would have overwritten stuff and would have incorporated SLX to FFUR because a lot of internal necessary modifications and changes! And the main aim of having done that was to make the FFUR/SLX 2007 a standalone MOD that allows people to access to both of, FFUR 2007 'vanilla' and FFUR 2007 with SLX. And as stated above, take the time to test the MOD and you would really notice the difference between the current and the previous packs. Here is a mirror for the Extra Pack (Special thanks to ofpdeadeye [OFP.info]) OFP.Info : DOWNLOAD FFUR/SLX 2007 1.2 Extra Pack from (FTP#1) [10,8 MB] The second variant of the Extra Pack (using high-quality hollywood faces) is on the way as well. :] Best Regards TB Edited because of typos
