    Doped pilots

I think America's modern military doctrine was created after watching the movie Aliens. That's what doped-up soldiers, Landwarrior systems and fancy gunships that get shot down by some Iraqi hick with an RPG remind me of. Or I guess the producers of that movie did their research really well. In all seriousness, I think there's only so far that technology will take you, because the enemy always manages to catch up at a lower cost, building on your innovation and exploiting your weaknesses. The US is relying on technology way too much, and overstressing its troops, that's why so many of them are going nuts or making stupid mistakes. Information overload, stress, equipment breakdowns, not to mention occassionally having engage in actual combat.

    Disabling intros?...

Yes, it's doubtful that Quake console commands would work in OFP. I haven't heard "set cl_ ..." in a long time. Wish there was a command to disable those demos that play in the background of the main menu though.

War games dealing in immersion and

I started playing that recently. One of the best moments was when I zoomed into a Russian squad capturing a German officer and heard: "Staat! Padnemay ryuki, suka!" That translates to "Get up! Put your hands up, bitch!" So I guess all the voice acting in it is good... in what, six languages? 2300 wavs total!

  5. If you've played Morrowind, you probably noticed that nice sand storm effect they had. I tried to duplicate that for OFP. Take a look and feel free to use it in your missions: Sandstorm Script

    Pacific front mod

actually, someone has made somethin similar, but no one seems to have used it for their islands:/... they that made it is PlanetOfWar... its a tall grass addon, but i dont remember if it is green or not, i can take screenies and show what i meant. There's grass in VBS1 too. I've also seen a grass addon but didn't try it because the disclaimer said "requires fast PC". I don't think this mod is a fake, this is what happens when you replace all the textures, make new models, skies and animations. The only thing that I find strange is that the island in these pictures is completely flat. Or is this a demo/test island of some sort? Another thing, the Japanese vs. American height difference they have depicted is a little exaggerated, isn't it? I don't think the average Japanese person is THAT small, are they? Or is it that this mod team thinks Americans are that big!?

Do you remember your first time?

My first video game, the Coleco Telstar Arcade: It didn't have much support so I got the Atari 2600 soon after. The first arcade game played was Space Invaders at the arcade that used to be on Times Square in NYC which you can see in some old 70s and 80s movies. 10 years later, in high school, I was to be picked up by police for cutting class and playing games at that very same arcade. It's gone now though, thanks to the bastard Disney corporation and ex-mayor Ghouliani who turned Time Square into a corporate nightmare where fun was no longer on the agenda.

    The Iraq Thread

Yes.. and your irrational hatred of him will haunt you because long after Bush is gone, we will still despise "Europe". Just curious - will you also despise Asia, Australasia and the rest of the world who also hate Bush and think he is a mentally deficient warmongering assclown? Â Bush is a gangster and a phony. He doesn't hate anyone... or maybe I should say he hates EVERYONE. His entire motivation is money. Profit for his father's and Dick Cheney's corporate mafia. How stupid do you have to be not to see this? His anti-environmentalist attacks for the sake of drilling, logging, and freedom to spread cancer. His tax cuts that do nothing but support the rich and give the poor and middle class a pat on the back. His defense of Enron and other monopolies. His fascist social policies intended to put more power in the hands of censors and corporate media outlets. Btw, who sent that Anthrax? Strange how Iraq turned out to not have any WMD.

    Ofp witn xp

I had the same problem with Windows 2000 Pro and I think it might be a heat thing. Have you tried running OFP with the side off your system case? Â As soon as I tried it the game stopped crashing immediately. I've got a Radeon 9700 Pro and Athlon XP2600+. There are plenty of fans in my tower but the weather is fairly warm at the moment. So I'm hoping it's just the mini-heatwave that's causing the problem - I don't really want to have to take the side panel off every time I play a game! Is yours a Radeon 9700 Pro too? I threw out my case cover, took my case fan and hung it pointing at the CPU, memory and graphics card. I took a spare CPU fan and hung it in front of my HD's. I can keep my PC on 24/7 now and the drives and CPU don't heat up at all. The heatsink on the CPU is cold to the touch. Just pointing this out so that you don't think you need to keep your computer case closed, or in the configuration a manufacturer chose. The way the case fan was positioned by the manufacturer, at the front of the case, did almost no good for cooling anything except the PCI cards, of which I have a whopping one of at this point.

    End of the usa

How about this: http://www.hempcar.org/ Engines can also run on plain old gasoline. Or you can make diesel fuel from garbage and other organic materials. It's more expensive now, but when mass produced it would become cheap. I mean, look at the computer industry as an example, or LCD screens compared to prices 10 years ago. Don't tell me it's more expensives to produce alcohol than a (*!%$!! LCD screen. Oh yeah, good ol' methane, like the kind you can make yourself without any special tools just by eating alot of beans, that can be cheaply produced too. If you don't like any of those methods, with some electricity and water you can make hydrogen to charge up fuel cells which will run everything from your household electricity needs to your car. This whole planet is run by corporate crooks who look out for each other's profits above all else, that's the problem, not any real lack of energy sources. Oil isn't just an energy source, it's a political and economic weapon. America's continued unecessary dependence on it is like dealing with the devil.

Drop a red cl_basic particle in billboard mode in front of the player at eye level, with a lifetime of .3. The starting and ending size of the particle should be at maximum so it always fills the whole screen. Looked good with one particle and the rest turned off, but you can create other effects by mixing particles sizes, color, alpha, etc. I made a sandstorm effect like this once, but it's too laggy to be of use. One particle works ok though.

    Common addon pack

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (DeadMeatXM2 @ 15 May 2003,08:16)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">ARGH!!!! Why oh why are so many people SO hooked on the idea of HUGE addon packs? They suck... Not only do you need to maintain them every day practically, as otherwise they will get out of date VERY quickly. They are huge, as you suggested 200meg... which is gonna kill the 56k'ers, and they will still just be the same addons stuffed into one big pbo or zip... What you really want to do is standardise the cpp. Set levels for the damage caused by standard ammo (such as NATO 5.56, 7.62, 12.7 and other calibres, and Eastern-Bloc 7.62, 12.7 and other calibres.) Set levels for armour, for both soldiers, tanks, aircraft etc, that way no-ones accurate M1A2 becomes a moving fortress... What we don't need is an "uber pbo" or zip, as that would just be pointless, what we DO need is some form of standardisation. Tie this in with Addons at Ease, and we've got the perfect package. If someone gets together a list of definative values for ammo and armour, then we can get this show rolling, until then, this isnt going anywhere... Get the reference written, get BIS and everyones endorsement, and then we can start making universal addons, that will be the same on all the servers and the same on everyones PC's. The way I see it, untill AaE is sorted, and until someone gets this reference done, this project is stuck in the past.<span id='postcolor'> That's why only finished, tested addons should be included. The pack itself can be updated once in a while though. Maybe someone will feel like writing a .pbo patcher? My suggestion is keep the time periods seperate which will hopefully keep the size of the pack down. You shouldn't be forced into getting Vietnam and WW2 addons, I personally don't have any desire to use them at all. Addon dependencies would also have to be considered. Some addons need other addons to work, like infantry using weapon packs. So a unit was included that used something that wasn't included it should be updated to work with the pack's standards. Maybe we should just pick an addon to be the "officially sanctioned" version for each type of object. So that there's 1 AK replacement only, or one entire Russian weapons pack, etc. This way people would at least stop duplicating each other's work and mission makers could know what they should be using.

There was some magic staff or a sword or something that froze people temporarily and you could smash them. That game had a pretty good selection of "non-standard" weapons for its time. I mean besides the usual FPS formula of: lame gun, scatter gun, fast shooting gun, energy gun, grenades & sniper rifle. I also liked the gas-shooting cameras in Splinter Cell. You shoot it out of your grenade launcher (OICW looking thing) and it sticks to the wall and you can use it like a remote camera. When you press a button it makes a whistling sound to attract nearby guards who can't seem to resist taking a peek. When the guard gets close to look at it, you press another button and CS gas shoots out knocking him out.

I played Splinter Cell on the PC if that's any consolation? Â I think no one is answering because the moderators are about to drop a MOAB on you for repeatedly breaking the forum rules and they don't want to be around when it happens. Here's a hint, if you want to talk about things that: 1. Aren't OFP or OFP2 related 2. Don't already have a thread started somewhere then you can post that kind of stuff in the Offtopic forum and they probably won't lock the thread or tell you to read the forum rules.
